  • ooc // a place for mentors to talk, apprentices to train with each other ect! this can played either within the famine timeline or not, up to you! :)

    Palepaw crouched low to the ground, knowing her belly was supposed to not touch the grass. She was supposed to be as light as a birds feather, but she could already tell that being Bumblefoots' kit was a huge disadvantage. Her shorter frame meant her belly was closer to the ground, and she sighed in frustration as the grass tickled her.

    "Guess I'll just have to hold my breath every time I hunt."

    A low snort of laughter slipped from the apprentices maw at his sisters comment, and he approached with a smirk lightly gracing his features. "Perhaps you need a real hunter to show you how its done," he teased. Seating himself quietly, he made an over exaggerated gesture for her to continue. "Don't mind me, I'm just here to watch for now."

    // cough this is lame sorry

  • ☄ ----~ "And I suppose you are the real hunter?" Zephyrbee questioned as he approached. Sitting down beside Palepaw, he looked the young boy over before looking to Paperpaw. He knew, of course, how Pale has often snuck out of camp to practice hunting. While Zeph was not okay with the apprentice doing this at late hours without telling anyone, he did approve of the apprentice's determination to get better. And, notably, he had. He was shaping up to be quite the hunter.

    So, he didn't hesitate to nod towards Paperpaw as he asked Pale, "Tell me, whats she doing wrong?" His question wasn't meant to undermine Paperpaw, but simply to both improve Pale's observation skills as well as let both of them understand what to and not to do. It was better to get the apprentices to find the problems than have Zeph make their ears bleed with a long-winded explanation.

    The young tom's ears twitched at the sudden sound of Zephyr's voice. He grew slightly nervous, knowing he was a good warrior and yet seemingly hard to please. And, of course, Palepaw only wanted to please those who looked out for him. He swallowed heavily, glancing at the older tom as he sat down before focusing on his question. What was she doing wrong?

    Paperpaw was his sister and he didnt want to seem as though he was nitpicking at her, but he also couldnt ignore Zephybee's question. Releasing a low breath, he smiled softly to his sister before assessing her stance. "Well... she's short, so her belly touches the grass when she crouches. That means that when she moves, the grass under her will rustle and alert the prey of her presence." Truthfull, Palepaw wasnt positive that was the correct answer, but he tried to maintain an air of confidence so as not to show that he was unsure of himself.

  • smiling warmly, the apprentice trotted up to her clanmates. "this is so exciting!" the femme whispered. bluepaw sat next to zephyrbee, offering yet another lame smile. she wanted to be on the tom's good side at all times. she watched the exchange between the three, listing attentively.

  • ☄ ----~ //Blue is precious okay i love her

    Zephyrbee nodded at Palepaw's response. When the tom gave no sign of offering anything else, Zephyrbee continued for him, "In moorland like Windclan, it is inevitable that there will be long patches of grass that will give away your position - whether your tall or not," he informed, "that is why we windclanners specialize more in sprinting and pouncing than stalking. Since your so small, Paperpaw, I suggest you look particularly for long grass to hide in to ambush your prey."

  • //papers just like dang all my tall clanmates lmao

    and blue is adorable pls protekt ;w;

    Paperpaw rolled her eyes playfully at her brother and was about to respond when Zephyrbee barged into their conversation with his rather large muzzle. She was pretty surprised as she hadn't heard any of their approaches, and she smiled at Bluepaw as she came up. "Yeah it sure is exciting to watch your sister get taught." She snorted, not minding the audience of her siblings and mentor. Even if Zeph could be pretty blunt at times.

    Trying to show an ounce of maturity she practised her crouch again before frowing and standing up. "Dude. Why should I even bother crouching. They cant even see me!" She would do a drop catch from trees but they lived on a moorland. She smiled at Palepaws' encouraging advice - he was the only tom she didn't mind telling her what to do.

    "It's too hard to be a hunter." She whines, pouting at her siblings and Zephyrbee, her moment of maturity vanishing. "Why cant we do fighting instead?"

  • While the others where talking, Owlpaw slowly crept through the tall grass towards the group. Keeping herself low to the ground, tail held strait out behind her, the apprentice carefully slunk into the clearing behind Zephyrbee. She crouched behind him for a moment, giving Paperpaw a knowing look, then lunged for her mentor in hopes of landing on his back and tackling him to the ground. Of course, Owlpaw had little to no experience with ambush attacks, so her chances of success were fairly low. It also didn't help that she gave a yowl of "Sneak attack!" as she sprung.

    OOC: Owlpaw will become very good at hunting and stealth later on, but right now she has absolutely no clue.

  • ☄ ----~ "They can't see you because your crouching," he said, ignoring her title of 'dude' as he patiently explained, "crouching and stalking helps prepared your muscles to leap forward as well as shift your weight easier to keep your steps light. You're tiny now, but you will grow in time and so it will be especially important that you remain low and hidden in the grass so your prey won't detect you."

    He was about to start lecturing her on complaining, and how she should learn patience, when a screech behind him made him stiffen. The next instant, he had a weight on his back that very well nearly toppled the lanky warrior. Nearly.

    "Owlpaw," he gasped, baffled as he craned his head to look at her, eyes narrowed, "I would have taken this behavior from Paperpaw, not you," he said reproachfully, but then paused, and added with - oh my gosh - an actual look of mischief in his eyes, "then again, paperpaw can't hunt just yet, so sneaking up on me wouldn't be her forte."

    Zeph and his lame burns everyone

  • // awe thanks you guys! i love all of your characters c:

    bluepaw flicked her tail to and fro as she watched, choosing to remain silent for once. the apprentice watched owlpaw approach zephyrbee from behind, eyes sparkling with mischief. she had only managed to hunt mice and small bugs, so she was in the same boat as paperpaw. "zephyrbee, can you show us how to defend ourselves from...er...sneak attacks?" blue grinned at owlpaw as she said this, head tilting to one side. despite her light jab at her sister, the young feline was being serious.

  • ☄ ----~ Zephyrbee mentally thanked Bluepaw for turning the control back to him. "Glady," he said, the unusual impishness still in his hard eyes. "When someone pounces upon you - your dead meat if they're bigger - but if they're of even height or smaller, the best course of action is to -" his gaze flashed - the only warning Owlpaw got before he explained, "Stop, drop, and roll."

    Promptly after, he did just that. Collapsing his legs, Zephyrbee aimed to quickly roll on top of Owlpaw before she could jump off his back. He made sure, though, to place himself slightly on his side so that half her form was stuck but not enough to suffocate her beneath his heavier weight.

    "After that you must roll off them and jump them before they have any time to recover. The benefits of this move means, if you get up fast enough, they'll have their bellies exposed. Cons of course is that if YOU dont get up fast enough, YOUR belly is exposed - and of course they'll turn your spine to ribbons." Rolling off Owlpaw, he looked her over quickly to make sure she was alright, before turning to the other apprentices, "Any questions?"

  • // honestly they're all adorable ;w;

    and paper is burning from zephs taunts .... shes so broken x)

    //NINJA'D DANG U TYPE FAST

    Paperpaw let Zephyrbees' word go in one ear, and out the other almost immediately. She nodded seriously, not paying attention to a word he said, instead her eyes flickering to Owlpaw creeping up on the tom whilst he was distracted. Just before her sister pounced, Paperpaw let a wide grin split across her face and revelled in the toms' gasp.

    She smirks at Zeph, the insult rolling off her back. "Mock me all you want old man, you're the one who let a young apprentice sneak up on you." She shifted to her sister's side, beaming in glee, knowing Zeph wasn't particularly fond of young cats. Especially her. Well, whatever, she was used to being a disappointment.

    "Little did you know we were practising double-fights without giving you warning. Awesome job by the way, Owlpaw." She smiles at her sister proudly, twisting towards Bluepaw at her comment nodding encouringly. "Oh heck yeah! Let's do that Zeppy!"

  • bumblefoot ○ ○ ○

    Bumblefoot wasn't a fighter - he was a worrier. That was his only justification for following after his kits, to watch his friend train them. He did wonder how his short-legged kits would manage to fight and practise with Zephyrbee, the tom being so tall.

    His fur rose in worry, his amber eyes sharpened, as Zephyrbee rolled onto Owlpaw. What the heck is he doing!? She's too small to be - he took a calm breath, realising that he'd rolled so that Owlpaw would be safe. Maybe he shouldn't have come out here.

    they'll turn your spine to ribbons . Bumble feels a chill go up his own spine at the mention of his kits getting sliced apart. Zephyrbee, bless him, was extremely blunt and honest but it scared him now there was a possibility that they could get hurt. None of the kits had been in battle yet, so all they saw were cool tricks from the warrior.

  • blue's worried expression matched bumble's as she frowned. "my spine?" the young apprentice lashed her tail sharply, as if she was whipping away her fears. "well, not when we are the best warriors in the forest. right?" the cream/red tabby glanced at her sisters, and than at her father. she didn't say that bold comment to boost herself up, rather in an attempt to reassure her worry-wart father.

    "jasperstar says that i should always go for the belly. is it because it's so soft down there?" the apprentice questioned.

  • ☄ ----~ Zephyrbee completely ignored Paperpaw as he focused on Bluepaw - and her father, whom looked equally sucker-punched. "I was exaggerating for emphasis," he explained with a sigh. He knew sometimes his blunt words frightened his fellow clan-mates (especially the healer named after an insect) but then again you couldn't really sugarcoat battling. There was nothing 'safe' or 'fun' about fighting for your life with tooth and claw, and one of these days, someone wouldn't be careful on how they roll as their intention to crush Owlpaw beneath them outweighed morality that it was a child. So, yeah, better to exaggerate than mollify.

    "Yes, the belly is soft and vulnerable and our bodies would instinctively protect our bellies before our necks, so that is a perfect target to go after. Remember though, everyone goes for the stomach, so if your aiming for it, Starclan knows your opponent is too. That is why you must make sure to wait for an opportunity rather than pounce for your opponent's weak spot yourself."

  • Paperpaw snorts, ignoring her father and Bluepaws' attempt to soothe his over-worrying tendancies. He used to be a warrior but kitted out and chose the life of a medicine cat. Why should they be cushioning his feelings towards fighting? She'd never been in a fight, but she had seen injuries from them in her fathers medicine den. And she got a thorn in her paw once, it would probably just hurt as much as that.

    "Well, I'll have no trouble getting attacked from under-belly then." She gestured to her shorter frame. "Finally, an advantage to bad genes." She speaks loudly at the end, so Bumblefoot can hear the insult.

    "C'mon I wanna get to practising these things!" She sighed in frustration to Zephyrbee, tense with energy now her father had appeared. Unfortunately it meant fighting her siblings with more intent than their kit-fights had been.

  • Owlpaw squealed in surprise as Zephyrbee rolled on top of her. For a split second panic flooded her veins, but promptly dissipated as her mentor stood. As a kit, play-fights typically consisted of random swipes and nibbles, no real tactics. This was exciting! Owlpaw stood on shaky legs, beaming from Paperpaw's compliment, and turned her attention back to Zephyrbee's lecture.

    So the stomach was a cat's most vulnerable spot huh? That made sense. It also made sense that cats would go out of their way to protect that area. "Would it be a good idea then to not aim for the belly right away? Say, if you go for someone's ears for awhile, they'll get distracted and try to protect their face. Then you could go for their stomach while they're not paying attention?" The apprentice suggested, giving her chest a confident lick. Looking up, Owlpaw noticed her father watching from a distance, and chuckled at his paranoid expression. She understood his concern, but sometimes it could be a bit much.

    // ffff I missed so much

    This time the apprentice remained silent and listened eagerly to what Zephyrbee had to say, wanting to absorb as much information as he could since he hadnt been formally trained yet. He couldnt help but smirk as his sister snuck up and pounced on the warrior, clearly haven taken him by surprise. At that, however, the lesson seemed to turn to a more serious topic.

    So far Palepaw had only really practiced hunting, and hadnt been trained for battle yet, so this training sparked a much greater interest in the young tom. He leaned forward in anticipation, watching carefully to the way he rolled over Owlpaw. Truthfully he wasnt worried about the girl like his father, he knew Zephyr would never intentionally hurt her. Plus, they all needed the practice, right?

    The stubby-tailed tabby suddenly nodded vividly in agreement to Paperpaw's words, stepping forward to speak for the first time since the lesson began. "I would really like to practice fighting too," he murmured in anticipation. With tensions rising between the clans due to the food shortage, it was more necessary than ever that they learn to defend themselves.
