In the Forest of wolfsbane two werewolf packs dwell. The first pack living in the East of the forest is known as The Nightshade Pack, Nightshade meaning The other pack, living in the West of the forest is known as The Druid Pack, Druid meaning "Strong Seers" For a long time you could say the two packs have lived in a sort of harmony. Neither communicated with the other, and a strong boundary marked it's way along the river running from the north to the south. Loyalty drives deep within the packs; a strong sense of pride comes with knowing you belong somewhere, and you are appreciated. For centuries the river has never been crossed and they have respected the others space. Other than a harsh glare or snarl from across the water nothing had ever come of it.

However. . .the Nightshade pack has raised a beautiful Alpha Female to rule over their pack. She is strong minded and powerful as comes with the title of alpha of the Nightshade pack. The Druid pack has also raised an alpha. . .an Alpha Male. he is is strong willed and is greatly in touch with the spirit world and the ancestors of the forest. Both alphas are fierce, and only look out for the well being of their families.

The current alphas of both packs have come to an agreement. Since the forest is becoming increasingly prone to mortal interference; paths are being carved for hikers and the like. It is no longer safe to continue on with this feud; besides with the merging of these two packs, they would create an unstoppable force. . . Right?

Loyalty. . .

Will this new pack be able to thrive?

Or will the loyalty that runs so deep tear them apart from the inside?

Alphas:

(1) male; the alpha male is the strongest member out of the entire pack and is (most likely) the largest as well. Usually has quite a temper due to his high testosterone levels and does not tolerate disobedience. He is dominant over the pack and his word is law. Challenging him is virtually a death wish, however it is possible (losing would mean death). He has the power to accept or exile anybody. His judgement is based off of the well being of the pack and he tends to turn to violence often, which is why the alpha female is usually needed to calm his (at times) outrageous actions.

(2) female; the alpha female is the largest female out of the pack and always has some sort of specific marking that makes her stand out from the others. She is in touch with the ancestors of the pack and is usually the sensible one out of the alpha pair. Her actions are strongly based upon guidance from the spirits and (with help from the gamma) determines the best course of action for the family. She is dominant over the pack and her word is law; just like the alpha male challenging her is possible but not highly recommended. Losing will mean exile - rather than death. She has the same powers as the alpha male in terms of exiling and accepting new members.

Gamma:

(1) male _orfemale; Those holding this position are usually if not always the oldest and wisest of the pack. Through their stories and their phrases they pass on to the others within the pack their wisdom. They delight in telling stories to pups though sometimes what they tell is just legend, but still each story usually has some sort of moral to it. At one time they may have been the Alpha and usually that is true. However the current Alphas may put others here should it seem right to them. There is usually only one or two who fill this position and normally only one of each gender, especially if they were a prior Alpha pair. Those who hold this position are much respected and loved by the rest of the pack. They are very spiritual, and usually very close to the alphas and help guide them through times of struggle. They can speak to the ancestors, receive visions, and (sometimes) can tell the future in times of hurt. (Elders)

Beta:

(2) male & female; The beta position is immediately below the alpha in the rankings. A beta wolf is often described as being second in the chain of command, so to speak. There is a male and female beta (one for each of the alphas). When neither alpha are around they take charge as it is the responsibility that falls to them. The Beta is there in order to test the Alpha in skirmishes (when they believe the alpha is making a wrong decision) which are never truly serious and results in little to no damage of either creature. Although there may come a time when the challenge is serious. The betas may or may not be mates but otherwise have total control over their love life. Their children often become some sort of hierarchy within the pack when they come of age such as Zeta (lead warrior) or Kappa (lead hunter).

Theta:

(1) male _or female; They are the lead medics within the pack, therefore it is they that the Iota aspire to be. They are very knowledgeable in herbology and have a vast knowledge upon what plants and other natural resources will help cure and heal others. They are usually very spiritual and cannot mate.

Iota:

(1-3) male_orfemale; They are apprentice medics and the Theta will pass on all of his/her knowledge to each of the apprentices. When the time comes one of the Iota will be chosen as the new Theta in a test of superior knowledge. Otherwise, the Iotas assist the Theta and the rest of the pack with whatever injury may arise.

Zeta:

(1) male; The war general of the pack. They take direct orders from the Alpha in case of a war. The Alpha may be the one to declare war, but the Zeta leads the army and plan the plans for war. They also train new recruits for position as a Eta and are also in charge of choosing the next zeta to come. Normally there is only a single Zeta, but if the populace is high there may be two.

Eta:

(unlimited) male; They are the guardians or warriors of the pack. Their job is to ward off intruders and are responsible for the safety and overall well being of all the pack members. They are led by the Zeta or the alpha male during skirmishes and wars. Although they will take orders from the other higher ranks if given, but the alpha's word is always above all.

Kappa:

(1) female; The lead hunter in the pack. Normally there is only one, though sometimes there are two depending upon how large the pack is. They lead the packs hunts when the Alpha (or the Beta when substituting) tell them to. They make sure that the entire pack is well fed and will not starve. They oversee as well, that the pack will have a well balanced diet.

Lambda:

(unlimited) female; They are the hunters of the pack. They follow the Kappa or occasionally the alpha female in hunts. Those who hold this position are loyal and quick to follow orders. They have stealth and agility on their side and together are able to take down larger prey. Also, they may occasionally follow the Theta or Iotas in search of herbs if told to do so. Usually these members of the pack have the most freedom and are more laid back than others.

Upsilon:

(1-4) male _orfemale; The Upsilon are the scouts or sometimes spies of the pack. They patrol the border with the Eta and are very aware of their surroundings. These are usually the most useful members of the pack as they have been trained to perfect all of their physical attributes. They are sneaky, agile, and strong - which makes them the perfect assassin (if need be). Often they are sent out on special missions by the alphas themselves when they are not busy helping the Zeta with whatever need be.

Psi:

(unlimited) male _orfemale; These are the subordinates of the pack. Usually new members or yearling wolves start here and must prove themselves in a public naming ceremony before they are given a better ranking. However they need to be careful and achieve a higher ranking least they become the Omega.

Omega:

(unlimited) male _orfemale; They are the scape goats of a pack. Often they are picked on by the other wolves and are last to eat. Sometimes things may become so bad that they might even up and leave the pack, though there are those who remain to stick it out. They are the lowest rank within the pack.

The Druid Pack - Brief Backround

The Druid Pack is one of the two werewolf packs that have called wolfs bane home for over 2,000 years. In comparison to regular wolves, in general werewolves are larger by all means. However compared to the Nightshade pack, Druid members are slimmer, and usually more agile. They don't use violence except as a last resort and this has always been their way since ancient times. The members are highly spiritual and the alpha has a connection with the ancestors that helps greatly in times of need. The meaning of Druid is "spiritual" and though some from Nightshade may be judgmental towards their ways, Druid has always seemed to do just fine in their ways of living. They will try reasoning, and persuasion before jumping into a fight. That is what they are taught growing up however, don't let this fool you they can be just as deadly when they want to be. Because of their heritage and way of life, Druid believes that their sins are washed away with each passing moon and celebrates this every month. Overall this pack is more laid back and calm, and enjoys the simple things in life - making them happier and a close family that is not to be messed with.

Nightshade Pack - Brief Backround

Nightshade means "strong", and as if you couldn't tell the pack members tend to live up to that definition. As opposed to the Druid pack, the Nightshade pack is very indifferent towards the ancestors and the spirits. They don't believe in the prophecies and such that the Nightshade so deeply live upon. Size wise, in comparison these members are much larger and husky. They focus on muscle building from the time they are old enough to walk. By all means a fight with one from this pack is not easily won. Violence is often their first resort rather than the last and because of this it makes for an overall tense, on-edge atmosphere. With the merging of the packs - it should help teach them how to let loose a little more. For right now, they are all about business and don't believe in relaxation (or anything other than being on your highest alert at all times).

However in large crowds she is very anxious and can't help her uneasiness and how she tends to stick around someone who she knows well.

REMORSEFUL

Anyone who knows Night-shade knows that she is a person who carries the weight of the world on her shoulders. There isn’t a bad day or incident that occurs around Nightshade without her blaming herself in some way. Unfortunately, no one ever rebuffs her when she falls on her sword and thus, Nightshade’s allowed to perpetuate the idea that it’s all her fault. Nightshade rarely speaks of her self-loathing and would, generally, prefer to carry on taking the blame for a situation regardless of her portion of the fault, unless she has some underlying feelings on the matter that she believes need to be forced to the surface. However, she is not going to make this revelation easy, and when such a conflict does occur, she will insist that a third party explain for her to increase the validity of her own claim of innocence.

DETACHED

Perpetually known as the lone wolf even as an Alpha, Night-Shade isn’t a stranger to solitude nor to turning herself “off” in various ways. If something hurts her, whether it be emotional or physical, Night-Shade will compensate with distractions or concentration that mentally remove her from the situation. Along with this repetitive denial of pain, Night-Shade refuses to make apologies. She keeps moving forward because she knows the moment she stops to reflect, she’ll spiral into depression and that’s not something she can afford with the amount of work she must do daily. The biggest cost of Night-Shade’s detachment is her inability to form strong bonds with others. Her avoidance of emotion is often mistaken for arrogance, an aloof attitude, or even hatred, which usually creates a rift in her relationships and for Night-Shade, it’s easier to let people go than try to win them over. They’re all going to get hurt if they stick around her, after all.

VOLATILE

Night-Shade is as angry and aggressive as she is headstrong. Having spent nearly eight years of her life on the run, in the heat of battle. Night-Shade is a ticking bomb who a bit of a touchy temperament that she some times snaps at her own pack-mates in stressful situations. Ever since her lack of action and initiative led to her family death by human hunters, Night-Shade absolutely refuses to stay idle when she thinks she can help, and it doesn’t matter if you don’t want her help, you will be getting this half-cocked dire-wolf following you into the fray. Instinct drives her motivations, and it takes a strong-willed rational mind to curb that impulsive behavior.

GULLIBLE

Night-Shade is a she-wolf who thinks not with her brain, but with the heart in her chest. Her biggest fault is that she always frets over what happens to the people she holds dear, no matter how hard they’ve pushed her away. She cares so much that she’s willing to sacrifice her livelihood to give the other a better chance. Night-Shade also plays everything close to the vest. She doesn’t speak of the turmoil in her thoughts because she knows that explaining herself is welcoming scrutiny and Night-Shade cannot handle being put on a pedestal. Additionally, Night-Shade is possibly the most compassionate being in existence. She wants to believe in those she cares for and she will let them lead her off a cliff unless there is an intervention. The most peculiar thing about Night-Shade’s inner-will is that she can be easily swayed when her pride is bruised and she is desperate to make amends. For a bit of an untrusting nature, she can be the most trusting and subordinate of people, which often leads to manipulation and her own demise.
