  • ;; ahh sorry i thought i had replied ;;_;; my bad

Kenma was even more glad that Kuroo could not see his face. His skin had lit up again in that soft, rose coloured pink that dusted his nose and cheeks. All he could think was 'stupid Kuroo' but didn't say that out loud, after all, he only called the other stupid for making Kenma feel so embarrassed. "You've told me many times, Kuroo. It's annoying." He simply lied, as that was not all true. It was not annoying at all and Kenma actually liked getting those compliments even though they made him feel shy and young to the world all over again.

Without noticing he'd leaned back against Kuroo even more, as even though he was pretending to be grumpy his body was protesting. Since Kuroo was right there and would not be his company for much longer today he wanted to spend as much time with the half god as possible. Of course that wasn't the only factor, as by now being drawn in towards Kuroo's presence was something he did out of instinct. It was a natural thing.

  • // it's all good c:

It was a bit too easy to tell how Kenma's actions were contradicting his words. Kuroo could feel how the other pressed closer to him despite his grumbling, and the half god only took it to mean that it didn't actually bother Kenma at all that he was saying such things in the first place. "Good," he replied easily, almost getting drowsy himself with the soft sensation of Kenma's hair against his fingertips. But that was no good since he had a meeting soon and would be leaving quickly after, much to his dismay. Moments like this with Kenma were becoming increasingly rare and harder to leave.

This only caused Kuroo to cherish the moments even more, though, and he lowered his head to press a kiss to the nape of Kenma's neck, his fingers tucking away the strands of hair that fell there. "Well, I know for a fact that I've told you I love you before," he remarked as he pulled back, though only barely. "Feel free to beat me up if I don't say it at least fifty times a day," Kuroo added with a grin he knew the other couldn't see.

  • Kenma was unfazed by Kuroo's simple remark to himself being sarcastic. It was to be expected. What wasn't expected was the light feeling of the half god's lips against the back of his neck. This caused his eyes to widen out of surprise and embarrassment and all he could think was 'Stupid Kuroo' for having made him feel so embarrassed. It was such a simple action and yet gave so much feeling to Kenma. But even with his complaints he couldn't hate it as rather he did like that form of affection. That like towards the affection had increased due to Kuroo's warm touch on the back of his neck as the other moved his hair.

Kuroo's words had caused Kenma to fall into silence. It made him happy to hear the half god's words, that confession he loved hearing even though he'd broken that confession before when he'd said such cruel things to Kuroo. He would not think about that now though, this was not the time. Slowly he pulled away from Kuroo enough to be able to turn around and face the other, though his legs found Kuroo's again as if to get into a more cuddling position. He'd now just shown he was not angry though of course his anger had been clearly fake. "I love you too, stupid Kuroo with your stupid hair, and your stupid nicknames."

  • Kuroo had pulled away a bit more as Kenma's body shifted, a bit surprised but quite pleased that the other had finally turned to face him. In truth he was fine being close to Kenma in any way, but being able to see his face, the soft pout of his lips and gold eyes under his lashes was always preferred. Kenma's words made his heart swell in his chest as usual, though perhaps even more emphasized by how unsure he'd been about Kenma's feelings for him a few days earlier. He released a soft chuckle at the way the other had phrased it.

"Yeah, yeah, we all know I'm stupid, but I'm also stupidly in love with you," he crooned, thinking it was too easy of an opportunity to be cheesy to pass up. He leaned forward so that their foreheads touched, closing his eyes and feeling quite satisfied now that Kenma was no longer angry (or pretending to be). The internal clock he was cursed with did warn him that it would soon be time for his meeting, and after that he would have to prep for the mission tonight. He decided he would try to ignore it for a few more minutes.

  • Kenma almost smiled at the 'stupidly in love with you' that left Kuroo's lips. It was amusing how the other could say such easy things and flow with Kenma's sarcasm. Though for years they had come to an understanding of each other's words and had responded in their own ways. He liked how over time he'd be able to catch onto the different way Kuroo said things, just for a short period. That was something everyone's voice did but he always focused on Kuroo's. With those thoughts and at this point he couldn't even protest to how much of a dork Kuroo was being.

As the other's forehead pressed against his own he stared for a few moments. Of course there was a lot of blur since Kuroo was very close in his vision but he was able to make out some things. Kenma had taken those moments to memorize even more things about Kuroo's face and that only lightened how he was feeling at the moment. Closing his eyes he pressed back a bit lightly much like an animal would with a small forehead nudge. "And maybe I'm stupidly in love with you too."

  • Despite the 'maybe' Kuroo was unfazed, for he knew it was just how Kenma spoke when Kuroo was being a huge sap and yet agreed with him. Besides, his response was borderline cheesy as well, probably as much as he would ever be, and Kuroo was perfectly fine with this. He never minded being expressive for the both of them. And in small moments like these the half god knew he was seeing a rare side of Kenma very few people would likely ever get to see. He considered himself quite fortunate in that regard. This became one of the few times Kuroo chose to be silent, smile never fading as Kenma nuzzled closer.

Naturally, all good things must come to an end, and soon a voice from outside the tent could be heard. Kuroo recognized it to be the soldier who had been tasked as the messenger. The man didn't step inside the tent though, merely called from outside that his meeting would be beginning soon. Kuroo clicked his tongue in disappointment and sat up, though not before placing a light peck on Kenma's lips. "Gotta go be a responsible adult now," he mused, though his voice betrayed his reluctance.

  • Kenma had a small pout form on his lips as the other sat up. That small peck had only lasted a second and even though he would have wanted an actual goodbye kiss (not that he'd admit that to Kuroo) he didn't complain. His sharp gaze shifted upwards to look at Kuroo, something a mixture between 'i'll miss you' and 'i hope it goes well' shining through. He didn't want Kuroo to leave, not after he'd just been able to be with him for only a small amount of time. Then again the reason behind the small amount of time was his own fault, but that had also brought them to this situation.

Slowly he sat up as well, one of his legs drawing in to pull it in so he was partially sitting on it as he continued gazing up at Kuroo with that pout that seemed to not be going away. "I don't know what made you think to call yourself an adult, Kuroo, you have the mentality of a four year old." Kenma stated plainly as if refusing to show he was pouting. Though his statement was not true it was just something he would say, after all, just another Kenma thing to do.

  • "Which one's worse, though, the guy with the mentality of a four year old or the one who's dating him?" Kuroo replied with a grin, knowing full well from the look the other gave him that he would be missed. He also knew that he himself was an open book, and Kenma would easily be able to read that the half god would miss him just as much. Honestly he already did, aware that if the peck had lingered any more Kuroo wouldn't want to leave at all and instead just stay in bed. But he had a mission and needed to prove himself worthy; he'd made quite the scene running around the camp in search of Kenma. He didn't regret it, but he needed to display a more confident and skilled side of himself.

Kuroo gave Kenma a final wry smile. "I'll miss you," he said, because although he knew Kenma was already aware of this fact he liked to voice it out loud anyways. "Don't forget to eat your dinner, by the way," he added, running a hand through his hair as if to fix it (as if it could actually be fixed in the first place) and heading out of the tent altogether before Kenma could protest. He would return for the rest of his things after the meeting before heading out, but it would be a quick few minutes that likely wouldn't allow for much except another swift goodbye.

  • Kenma was a little upset that Kuroo just walked out but he understood. He knew that goodbye's between the two for anything were hard. Feeling a bit defeated he didn't know if he would even be able to eat his dinner, that is if he remembered to get food. But then actually eating it was a whole other problem. Sighing he now no longer felt like getting up and just wanted to wait for Kuroo to get back as time seemed to be slowing painfully now. Grabbing the materials on the bed he curled up underneath them, closing his eyes. When it came to things like this he wouldn't put effort in and that's how it was for anything unless Kuroo would be on him about it and with his nagging he'd have no other choice. But right now Kuroo was gone so it would just be a better chance to try to ignore the world for a while.

He tried to imagine that Kuroo was still there. Sure, the other had only left for some sort of meeting but it was still agonizing to have him gone. It was just with this war, Kenma did not know how much time he would have left with Kuroo. There was still that fact that Kenma was no warrior and nor was he even good enough in battle to even be a sacrifice. He was good for strategy, to tell other's how to do things while being able to slide in and do things on his own. When you tell other's things to do you must be willing to join in your own way to keep that gear spinning and that's what he did. But this war would be different and it wasn't like his skills for strategy had been noticed at all. He was a nobody like many of the other faces here.

  • Kuroo had let out a very long sigh as he walked away from their tent, knowing there was no way he would probably ever say a proper goodbye ever again to Kenma. Not only was it a harsh reminder of the day Kenma had told him he never wanted to see him again, but it also just implied too much in their current situation. Kuroo would much rather say something along the lines of 'I'll miss you' or 'See you later' instead. It had a little less of a painful feel to it, though he knew it really didn't matter what was said in the grand scheme of things. Whatever fate had laid out for them couldn't be altered by simply using different phrasing.

The meeting was a bit on the shorter side but informative all the same. He learned a little more about the men who would be going with him on his mission and where they were meant to go. Afterwards he had a few spare minutes to go back to his tent and get his things ready, though there wouldn't be much he needed. Still, it gave him a chance to go see Kenma once again before leaving for the night. He set off at a light jog back to the tent, announcing his arrival with a whistle as he stepped inside.

  • Kenma had found himself laying there, staring at nothing as the other was gone. Kind of pathetic in a way but there was nothing else he could do really. The moment he heard the whistle though he sat up, his attention turned towards the entrance of the tent. Upon seeing Kuroo he could only be a bit confused, why was the older male back? He swore the other wouldn't have had enough time and had to go. In the next few seconds he realized he was being pretty oblivious and that this was Kuroo most likely coming back to say goodbye.

Knowing this he did something he usually didn't do and got off the bed, rushing over to basically throw himself at the half god in an actual hug. The time Kuroo had been gone had made him realize just how much he would miss Kuroo while the other was out. Plus Kenma thought that maybe it was also his turn to show that he could greet Kuroo to, and the other deserved that over what Kenma had done just a few days ago.

  • Dark eyebrows shot up in surprise as Kenma suddenly flung himself towards Kuroo, the half god quickly recovering and wrapping his own arms around the other. It was usually pretty rare for Kenma to initiate much of anything, not that Kuroo really ever minded it. He knew it was just part of his demeanor, and even if it took a moment the other would still reciprocate whenever Kuroo kissed or embraced him. Not to mention the fact that it made times such as these all the more precious and heartwarming to him.

Kuroo tilted down to press a kiss to the top of Kenma's head. "I wasn't gone for that long, was I?" he said in an effort to joke around, though his tone was a lot softer than it normally was in such cases. He brought a hand up to Kenma's chin, tilting it slightly upwards to look at him better. "Hey, I'll be back soon, alright? I won't be gone for too long at all. You'll end up falling asleep and before you know it I'll be here nagging at you to wake up and give me attention," he said with a slight smile.

  • Kenma was relieved when Kuroo wrapped him in an embrace in return. He knew his actions had surprised the other but was glad that there seemed to be no actual teasing for him being more emotional than normal. The kiss to his forehead made his lips shift to form a small smile but faded when the other tilted his head to look up. He could only find comfort in how confident and promising the other sounded which was not something he usually believed often. But today was different and he did.

"Promise?" Kenma asked a bit childishly. It was just something he needed to hear really. He had no idea what Kuroo would encounter while scouting and of course his mind would always give him the worst scenario's. Today he needed to believe in the half god as there was no room for doubt. To doubt only led to the possibility of the bad happening and he couldn't afford that. Since the moment when Kuroo had found Kenma in the camp the younger was doing his best to stop some of the bad habits and thoughts he had over the years, and he was trying to do that for Kuroo.

  • It was probably unreasonable to do so, because in all honesty neither of them knew what could happen in the span of a few hours. Kuroo had quickly learned how much could change in an instant, from his real father appearing to him and claiming him as his own to how suddenly Kenma had been sent to the war without a word. But even so, Kuroo knew he would do whatever it took to get back to Kenma as soon as possible in the morning. And he really was certain that the scouting mission wasn't anything to worry about; they were meant to avoid all contact as much as possible.

"I promise," the half god assured the other with probably a little too much confidence in his voice. If anyone could give him such courage and determination, it was definitely Kenma. There was no way he could deny him a promise when he was looking up at Kuroo like that. "Try not to worry too much," he added, placing another kiss properly on Kenma's lips now, letting it linger before pulling away. "I gotta finish packing some stuff, but I'm in a bit of a rush."

  • At Kuroo's confident 'I promise' Kenma could only feel a bit relieved. Then again he also knew such confidence and determination could be a bad thing but he tried to refuse that that would be the case this time. 'Believe in Kuroo' was the constant thought he repeated in his head just telling himself that there was no other option. That maybe for once believing could actually have an effect.

In the seconds after Kuroo's words he'd been trying to think of a response. Should he step away, or hug him a little tighter? He didn't get to make a decision before the half god kissed him and he couldn't come up with a complaint. It all added up to be more comforting and of course to have a kiss before a goodbye was one of the most conflicting things to receive as it would just make you want another one but it was also a good message. ". . . Okay," He said a bit hesitantly before moving to pull away from Kuroo.

  • Kuroo didn't know just how effective telling Kenma not to worry would actually be, but it had been worth a shot anyways. Once Kenma had moved away, hopefully a bit more reassured about the entire ordeal, Kuroo moved to pack the few things he would need. Scouting required stealth, so it was advised not to bring much, especially noisier items. The half god threw on his lightest armor and didn't bother with any extra supplies since another soldier had been tasked with the other bare necessities. He lastly grabbed a smaller sword from the weapons he'd brought, a little less flashy but effective in a fight all the same, and he placed it in its sheath, hoping he wouldn't be using it any time soon.

He turned to Kenma with a final, parting smile. "I'll be back before you know it, kitten," he repeated with the addition of the other's newly discovered nickname. He gave a small wave, tried to suppress a sad sigh at the thought of not seeing Kenma until the next morning, and headed out of the tent altogether. Kuroo found he was telling himself that there was no reason to say goodbye even after he'd walked a good distance away from the tent, and Kenma.

  • Kenma stared after the boy as he left, a small smile on his lips. Normally he would have swatted at Kuroo or glared at him for using that newly discovered nickname but at this point in time, at this moment in their lives he would do no such thing. That smile on his lips was from that stupid (at least according to Kenma) nickname. He was glad the other couldn't see it though as surely the half god would bring that up some time in the near future.

With a sigh he could only go to sit down on the bed, not curl up. There was nothing for him to do and in each passing second he was already missing Kuroo and that small bit of worry for him was still strong. It may just be a scouting mission but Kenma could think of too many possibilities. Once again he had to remind himself that he had to believe in Kuroo, believe in something positive for once. That it would all be okay and that Kuroo would be here to wake him up tomorrow with that annoying grin. Right now there was nothing to do and he probably wouldn't make the effort to eat dinner, after everyone seeing how Kuroo chased after him earlier he didn't know if anything bad would come out of walking around.

  • -------------------

The mission had been going fine at first. The small group had left after a much too quick meal and set off for the night. They traveled into the early hours of the morning and managed to discover some helpful information in regards to how much of the territory the opposing army had reached as well as how much seemed untouched for now. The distance between their two camps, however, swiftly seemed to be decreasing as the days had worn on, at least from what another soldier who had been there since the first day had told him. Kuroo had gotten to know the others well enough and they got along as well as they would considering their circumstance. As night turned into dawn Kuroo couldn't deny he was eager to get back to camp though.

As they were making their way back, they ran into trouble. A smaller but newer set of troops for the enemy army had arrived that morning and spotted them as they were moving away. While they were a bit outnumbered Kuroo knew they were now presented with the opportunity to deplete the others' reinforcements before they reached their camp, and he didn't back down. Due to the fact that Kuroo could take on multiple opponents at a time and that his overall squad was pretty skilled, they successfully defeated the intended reinforcements, but it had taken quite some time and slowed their travel significantly. Not to mention they had suffered some injuries, though it was quickly discovered that the blood on Kuroo's armor was not his own. Even so they were slowed down and were only just able to see their own camp from afar around noon rather than dawn.

  • The rest of the day had been boring after Kuroo left and filled with anxiety. Kenma managed to go out and get some food, even though it nearly amounted to nothing. He did that for Kuroo though. Not eating wouldn't help his worry and he wouldn't be able to fall asleep if his stomach was complaining. Sure, he'd wish for some much better food but it was better than nothing, then again maybe Kenma was just too picky when it came to food. After feeling a bit satisfied with what he'd eaten he'd gone straight to bed, hoping to wash away the hours with sleep rather than sitting there with those argumentative thoughts.

Somehow he'd managed to sleep a good while but when he noticed that that was when something dawned on him. Kuroo was not here, and it was morning. He'd scrambled out of Kuroo's bed to peek out of the tent but saw no signs of the troops and that was when the bitter worry began to rest within him heavily. Kenma had to take a few shaky breaths to keep himself from panicking as he retreated back into the tent but kept on watch for any signs or news of the troop. That morning he did not even make an attempt to grab something to eat, too focused on watching. At one point he finally managed to leave the safety of the tent and hide out near the entrance of the camp. Sure, the distance wouldn't make a difference but he had to be here, he had to be close so that if any sign of one of the troop member's coming back showed then he could get a hint. He was pleading that nothing bad had happened.

  • Kuroo felt incredibly relieved when the camp had started coming into view, glad they had come back with news that would prove useful and also desperately looking forward to seeing Kenma. Despite all his assurances and telling the other not to worry, he knew they were coming back later than anticipated, and that Kenma would likely be awake by now. And the fact that Kuroo hadn't been there when he'd awoken like he said he would be probably caused him to start worrying even more. Although he knew that as soon as they got to camp they would have to explain what happened and all they had learned, all he really wanted to do was find Kenma as soon as possible and assure him he was alright and unhurt, and then proceed to make Kenma eat something because of course he would have skipped breakfast.

The troops he was with let out their own little cheers as they properly stepped foot into their camp, their arrival having been announced as soon as they had been spotted. Kuroo had to quickly explain to the general that had come out to meet them all that had happened and that they had a few injured members, but he despite the blood on his armor he was perfectly fine. The half god couldn't help but look around the camp as he said this though, subtly searching of Kenma.
