  • Victoire looked to him slowly when he spoke, a bit surprised when he squeezed her hand again, but she did so gently in return. He was trying so hard to reassure her, and that surprised her a bit as well. He could just let her drive herself crazy with worry. But instead he said everything would be okay, she just had to trust him and herself.

When they reached her grandmothers apartment she was secretly a bit disappointed. She had wanted to speak to him a bit more on this, but she didn’t have long to be disappointed. Victoire was startled to see him taking his sunglasses off, and even more to see the burns. “Jamie...” she whispered as their gaze met. But that didn’t last long either as she leaned over the centre console. She hugged him gently, her eyes closing. “Just like old times.” She echoed quietly in agreement. She didn't pull back from the hug quickly, taking comfort in him wanting her with him. He had said that she was one of the most important things in his life, yet he had no idea just how much that meant to Victoire.

James was caught off guard a bit as she leaned across the cab and gave him a hug, but he wasted no time gathering her up in his arms and returning the gesture. He had missed this in the few hours she hadn't been talking with him. This was always something Jamie had loved about their relationship. It was effortless. They could have a disagreement, but it was resolved and water under the bridge by the end of the day. After a moment, he let her go before sitting back and smiling at her again. "Thanks for that," he said kindly, his blue eyes staring right into her.

"I can pick you up in the morning if you'd like," he offered as things started to go back to normal. "I drive by here anyway on my way. It'd be a little earlier than usual, but you wouldn't have to walk the whole way to school." Honestly, he hated the idea of her walking by herself to school with people like Aleksandre out there, but not just that. She was hurt and the fact that there were just bad people in the world at all scared him to death for her. He would never forgive himself if something happened to her and quite frankly, he'd likely burn the city down looking for the villain who dared lay a finger on her. Dodge had compared him to an overprotective guard dog and while Jamie had pretended to take offense to the comparison, it was hard to deny. He cared big and deep for the people in his life. That much, he couldn't help.

  • Victoire was relieved when he hugged her back, and when he loosened his grip on her she did the same and sat back with him watching him quietly. As their eyes met again she couldn't help but smile despite knowing he had gotten hurt for her. She was smiling again, it was a smile smile but it was one Jamie had practically placed on her lips. He was the only one who could really get her to smile.

“Really? I’d like that.” She admitted, knowing it would let her spend more time with him since the only real time they get to spend together was right after school like this. “Thank you... and I should be getting a new phone tonight.” She told him, running her good hand through her hair. “But it should end up being the same number.” She explained before turning to open the door, slinging her bag over her shoulder.

“And thank you for the ride home.” She told him with a smile, part of her wanted to say so much more... but instead she just got out of his truck to head home. She especially wanted to ask him about going to the drive in movies at some point to make up for the night before... but she felt bad asking since she couldn’t drive and he had only been going because she wanted to go. And so instead she just smiled at him and closed the truck door. God, why did she have to fall in love with her best friend? It was already complicated enough for her mind knowing she wasn't his best friend anymore, but adding on more complicated emotions didn't help. Just like how now she was scared he would get hurt again because of her.

Just us against the world. His words seemed to echo in her mind, bringing a small smile to her lips. When he had said that, it felt almost like they would be best friends again. But she knew better than to get her hopes up. As she started up the stairs to the apartment she didn't look back to the truck. She didn't want to let him see any of the complicated emotions she was going through. She didn't want to burden him more.

After this do you want to timeskip to a few days later? Let everything kind of get back to normal and get back to a point where Dodge is awake and moving around again?

Also, sorry it took me forever to respond, I've had a lot going on ^_^

    ic:

James's soft blue eyes watched her once she was out of the truck. He kept his gaze glued to her until she was safely in her apartment, feeling considerably better once he knew she was safe. Leaning back in his seat just a little, he smiled to himself. That smile on her face had been enough to make up for every bad thing that had happened in the past week. While he definitely hadn't been upset with her for what had happened the night before, it made him feel better overall that she was okay and able to smile after the night's events. She wasn't hurt and he was still a part of her life. They'd had a rough run since she'd been back, but he'd call that a win at least for now.

Pulling the truck into gear and backing out of the lot, he drove down the road towards the apartment he shared with his father. It had been a few days since he'd had to have any interaction with his father. The older man was out late and was usually sleeping off a hangover the next morning when James left. That, combined with Jamie's late nights and busy schedule didn't leave much time for the two to run into each other. He had definitely appreciated the break from the 5 am workout routine, though. In fact, he'd hardly spoken to his father at all since the night after he'd been shot when his dad had beat the daylights out of him. Pulling into his usual parking spot, James shrugged off the thought before heading inside for some much needed rest.

Once inside, he collapsed onto his bed, still incredibly sore from the previous night's events. Aleksandre had been a joke, but Jamie had been reckless, letting him blind him like he had. And then there was Dodge. His poor friend had risked his life to help James. It had been years, but Jamie knew what happened when Dodge pushed himself too hard. He hated to think he'd been part of the cause for his friend fading out. But at the same time, Dodge was 18 years old. He knew what he was doing and had James been conscious to argue, he knew his friend would've insisted. Regardless, he wanted to check up on his buddy to at least see what was happening. Attempting to call his phone though proved fruitless as it went straight to voicemail. Either the device was dead or it had been turned off by Tyra in an attempt to give her brother some peace while he recovered. Tossing his phone onto the desk, James rolled onto his side getting comfortable despite his soreness. He closed his eyes and let himself drift into an early sleep, hoping to get relief from some of his weariness. This super hero had earned himself a good nap.

  • Ooc: Sorry! Yes, that works! And I would've replied a lot sooner but my mom had me helping her at work today so I just got home! Do you have anything in mind that we'd be skipping to?

  • ooc:

No worries! I've been busy helping my mom get ready to start her school year as well as getting ready to move back to college in a couple days so I completely understand :)

As for the timeskip, I was thinking maybe we could timeskip to the weekend and they could go to the movies. I was also thinking it could be a bit of a double date where Dodge brought someone as well so no one had to be the awkward third wheel?

  • Okay! I like that! Do you want to rp out then deciding to go to the movies or do you want me to start off with like... them getting there? Also, regular movie or drive in?

  • ooc:

We can have it start as they arrive at the place before the movie starts and it can start raining or something during the movie and they can set up a tarp and James can lowkey use his powers to keep Victoire dry

  • It's okay! I was 99% sure that's what you meant, I was just double checking!)

Victoire was experiencing some rather intense mixed emotions as they drove closer to the drive in movies. She was elated that Jamie had wanted to make up for them not getting to go earlier, but then she also had that weird feeling in her stomach. This was something people usually did either with a whole group of friends, or as a date. They didn't have a whole group of friends. Yet, they were going with Dodge who was bringing someone along as well, but she didn't exactly know their relationship to each other to be able to gauge hers and Jamie's.

At the same time as she was inwardly fighting her emotions, she was fighting to keep herself outwardly calm so that Jamie wouldn't think anything was wrong. Because even if they were to only go see the movies as friends, that was perfectly fine with her. As long as she knew that was what was going on. The confusion was what was really killing her right now. Somehow, every time she looked to Jamie her feelings seemed to calm instead of grow worse. No matter what they were, as long as she had him she knew she'd be okay.

Ever since she had apologised to him for trying to push him away, she had seemed less anxious around him. Him telling her that he wanted it to be 'Just us against the world.' had really helped her in realising they were at least close friends again. She wasn't just going to be kept around until the 'newness' wore off when she'd be pushed to the side. Jamie still cared about her, and that thought alone was enough to make her content with not knowing if this was meant to be a date or not. As long as he cared about her she'd be okay with being just his friend.

Getting to this, I promise! I just moved into my dorm and I start RA training tomorrow, but I'll try to get on and write a response sometime tomorrow afternoon! Soo sorry for the inactivity on this thread!!

Sorry for taking ten years to reply! I've got RA training this week and we're about to get a butt ton of girls moving into the dorm so I've been working to get everything under control before we start getting crazy and I haven't had a ton of time to get on and get things done on here! Things'll get a little better once school starts and we get into a routine, I think ^_^"

For the first time in a long time, James Hamilton felt like himself again. His body was starting to recover from the recent weeks' abuses and his mood was higher than it had been in years and when he looked over at the beautiful woman sitting in the passenger seat across from him, he couldn't help but smile. Victoire was the reason he was feeling so much better, he would've bet money on it. Since they'd started hanging out again and reached the agreement that they were still the closest of friends again, James couldn't get enough of being around her. Her smile was contagious and her laugh was like a drug to him. He wanted to be the one bringing out that side of her and he loved being the one to make her laugh. Of course, when he wasn't making her laugh, Dodge was cracking everyone up with his witty quips and while Jamie knew the younger boy had pushed himself pretty hard just a few days earlier, he was hiding his exhaustion remarkably well.

In the back seat, Dodge sat with his arm over the shoulders of his date, a pretty girl name Whitney he had a few classes with. They weren't anything serious, by any means, but the two had been known to hook up and have a good time on occasion. It wasn't a surprise to James at all that she was the one Dodge had decided to invite to the unofficial double date. Despite the weakness the young super hero was trying to recover from, he had heartily agreed to the idea of driving out of town to give Jamie some time with Victoire without hesitation. "You deserve a chance with her," he'd said supportively and James had been relieved. Not for the first time, he was thankful that Dodge had moved back to the city. He'd missed his partner and his friend and now that they were back together, his life was easier in more ways than one.

As one of Jamie's favorite songs came to an end, the drive-in theater came into view. With a smile on his face, he found them a good parking spot, pulling in so the bed of the truck opened to face the movie screen. Getting out, he and Dodge both moved around the other side of the car to open the doors for the ladies. Extending his hand to Victoire politely, Jamie's eyes sparkled. The burning around his eyes had healed, though light flecks dotted the skin where the damage had been done, looking almost like a spattering of albino freckles. He wasn't sure what that was about or if it would heal or not, but they weren't noticeable unless you were looking closely for them. Once Victoire was out of the car, he led her back to the truck bed and helped her up into it, letting his hands linger on her waist for just a moment longer before letting go to get himself up next to her.

Most of the morning and a small bit of the afternoon had been spent making the back of the truck the perfect lounge area for the drive-in movie. With the truck being as large as it was, there was plenty of room for Dodge and Whitney to sit towards the back while James and Victoire could relax near the open end. Blankets had been spread out throughout the entire bed of the truck and pillows made it a little more plush and comfortable to sit on. There was a tent sort of thing that could be propped up if it started raining and as they got out and started getting comfortable, Jamie was glad he'd remembered to bring it. The sky above them looked about ready to open out and flood the earth. With Dodge's help, they got the tarp up, just in case before settling in to wait for the movie to start.

Leaning back on his hands a bit, Jamie's pinkie finger brushed Victoire's for a moment, almost as if it had been an accident. A small smile tugged his lips as he stared at the screen for a moment longer before he turned his attention to her. "Comfortable? Is there anything I can do? Get you a pillow or a blanket or something?" Towards the back of the truck, Dodge and Whitney were already comfortable, his arm wrapped around her comfortably as she rested her head on his chest. The older girl's dark hair shaped her face beautifully on one side as it rained down Dodge's grey t-shirt on the other. If he didn't know better, Jamie would've guessed there was something more there.

  • It's all good, I'm thinking about becoming an RA next year myself))

Victoire seemed to light up when she saw the drive in theater, and she glanced briefly at James before looking ahead again. She didn't speak, knowing this was one of his favorite songs and she didn't want to interrupt it. But as she looking out the windshield, she thought to the two sitting in the back seat. She had briefly seen Dodge's arm around the girl, Whitney, but that didn't really clarify their relationship. At the same time, it didn't really matter. She was getting to spend time with Jamie, and she didn't mind spending time with Dodge either.

Since her and Jamie had confirmed that they were still the closest of friends, Vic had relaxed a lot seeming to grow more comfortable in herself around both James and Dodge. Of course, she figured if Dodge was good enough to become one of James' closest friends then he was good enough to be a friend of hers as well. And he didn't put her on edge like most people did, then again she did trust Jamie's judgement.

As Jamie got out and opened the door for Victoire, she smiled warmly, taking his offered hand gently. Their eyes met and she couldn't help but notice the light freckling, she didn't think they had been there before... But then again she had never been comfortable enough to meet his gaze for so long before either. As both feet touched the ground, she didn't try to pull her hand away from James, enjoying the feeling of him holding her hand. At the same time, she didn't keep their hands to where he couldn't let go if he wanted to.

She was grateful for his help into the bed of the truck, and she almost thought his hands might have lingered a bit on her waist... But that was probably nothing more than wishful thinking. She had found that she didn't mind that, Victoire was perfectly fine with him not loving her in return as long as they were still this close.

She settled onto the blankets, leaning back slightly as Jamie joined her, glancing towards their hands as his brushed hers. She pushed away her wanting to lean into his side, and he helped by distracting her. She looked to him as he spoke, a smile coming to her lips. "I'm comfortable." She assured him, suddenly having to push the feeling away. 'Although not as comfortable as I'm sure they are.' She held the words back, just smiling at him. "I'm glad we get to do this."

  • ooc:

You totally should! It's so much fun and you get to meet a ton of people this way! I go to a private school with a curfew, though, so I have to stay up super late and check rooms every night ^_^" Pretty sure most schools aren't like that, though, so that's probably not a big deal for everyone

James grinned his big cartoonish grin as the movie started, flickering on the screen a couple times before focusing on the moving picture. The featured film for the night was some cheesy old flick, so old and indie that he didn't even know what it was called. It was supposed to be about these lovers, though, a girl and a boy who both had huge secrets they were keeping from each other and how these secrets might not just affect their relationship with each other, but the whole world. It was a pretty cheesy plot line but what could you expect from a cheesy outdoor movie theater? All the same, the movie wasn't really the important part, as much as the company you brought to the movie. Glancing over at the girl sitting next to him in the bed of the truck, the young quarterback couldn't help but smile to himself. He'd made a good choice in bringing her out here.

As she made her comment about Dodge and Whitney, Jamie couldn't help but chuckle, his laugh scraping his throat pleasantly. "Yeah... Would you believe they're just friends? They do stuff like this all the time." He glanced over his shoulder at the two. Whitney was engulfed in the movie, her focus pinned to the large screen. Dodge, on the other hand caught Jamie's gaze and winked with a slight smile before turning his attention back to the screen, resting a gentle hand on the dip of his date's side. The boy may not have been quite as popular or cool as James Hamilton, but he had some moves up those dark sleeves. There wasn't a doubt in Jamie's mind that Dodge could charm his way into whatever situation he needed to, given the chance. Rolling his eyes with a smile on his face, the 19-year old turned his attention forward again, letting his hand creep over just a little further.

The movie was stupid and cheesy until something the male lead did reminded James of himself. Pursing his lips a bit, he watched as the two lead characters lied to each other about who they really were. Leaning over a little, he kept his eyes on the screen and whispered. "They think they're protecting each other... but by lying about what's really going on, they're actually hurting each other. It'd be so much easier if one of them would come clean." He watched for another few minutes before deciding he needed a break. Looking over his shoulder again, he realized Dodge and Whitney were both engrossed in the movie. Shrugging, he turned his attention to Victoire again. "I'm going to the snack shack real quick... Wanna come?" Outside their little shelter it started to thunder a bit. Rain was on its way, as he'd suspected. Another perk of his powers was that he could sense how far out the storm was. If they timed it right, they could get out, get some popcorn and drinks, and get back just in time for the downpour to begin. Easing his way off the tailgate, he turned back and extended a hand to her patiently.

  • Ah yeah, as far as I know we won't have anything like that! But I guess I'll find out tomorrow!))

As she saw the movie flickering on, Victoire settled further into the bed of the truck, remaining very close to Jamie yet not close enough for them to touch. She didn't notice when Jamie glanced at her with a smile, not having thought he'd look to her instead of the screen. Yet, when she made her comment and got Jamie to laugh a warm smile spread across her lips, and she looked to him.

"That detail doesn't help them being just friends either." Vic added quietly with a pleased smile. She loved hearing his laugh, and found herself slowly moving her hand a bit closer to his as she turned her attention back to the movie. Because she didn't watch their hands, she didn't see that he was doing the same thing.

Victoire felt like the movie was oddly familiar despite how cheesy it was, and if she were being honest she didn't mind how cheesy it was. She really just enjoyed the experience of relaxing in the bed of the truck, specifically with Jamie. "You're right..." Her voice was quiet as she agreed with his observation, although she wondered if he would still think the same if she were to tell him about her powers. Even keeping quiet about what she had done to her family, her powers were dangerous and could get someone hurt. Yet, this time she didn't move away from Jamie, and instead let her fingers briefly touch against his.

Unfortunately, the touch only lasted a moment as right after she had gained the courage to do so he spoke to her and eased himself off the tailgate. She silently prayed she wasn't blushing, yet she still smiled and reached out to take his hand. "Of course." She murmured, keeping quiet for the sake of Dodge and Whitney.

She slipped quietly down from the truck bed, keeping her hand in his. She would wait until he drew away, not yet second guessing herself. Part of her mind was still trying to figure out if it would truly be a good idea to tell him about her powers. It would get a weight off her chest... but it might bring one to his. And it might take any small chance of being with him as more than friends away. After all, who would want to date someone with harmful powers like hers?
