The two meet in an abandoned town and decided to pair up. They fall in love with one another quickly and form a relationship, but then Carmen is attacked by a zombie and gets bitten, leaving her to slowly turn into one of the undead. From there the two have to decide what the best path to go is.

    NAME: Carmen

    AGE: 16

    PERSONALITY: bubbly, easygoing, trustworthy

WEAPON: a good old pack of throwing knives

A sigh left Carmen as she made her way throughout the meadow, tired eyes set in front of her. She was exhausted; she hadn't had the chance to get some rest after what... had happened. She still couldn't get the cries of terror out of her head. Mom, Dad, her brother - all gone so quickly. She'd sobbed endlessly in the hours afterward, which only deprived her of the little strength she had left. But that was two days ago, and her food supply was gone, her life waning. Carmen had to find shelter, fast, and another group to settle in with. She wouldn't be able to manage on her own.

Pushing back foliage around her, she squinted at a flash of what seemed to be brick - heart thumping in her chest, she stumbled into a clearing, where a single brick house sat, windows cracked, door unhinged. She gave a little sigh of relief and rushed in, heading straight for the kitchen. Throwing open cabinets, she realized mice had taken most of what food had been there, but there still were cans and cans of food. She grabbed a soup can and used one of her knives to crack it open, then threw her head back and nursed it. It tasted like the best thing she'd ever had in that moment.

Layla was walking slowly in the meadow that she lives in. Her house was a destroyed house, door open, windows unhinged, it was obvious that it was abandoned, but that was the trick. She uses it to trick survivors into going into it so she can steal from them. It was like a way of living for her now, and she knew that it was a must if she wanted to continue breathing. She had her bag with her of course, but she left some food as bait in the cupboard of the house. She silently crept near the back door, hearing somebody shuffle through the cans of soup she placed...

A smirk appeared on her face as she silently dropped her bag and continued creeping towards the kitchen, her axe in her hand. She noticed that it was a girl, she looked young, but Layla knew better than to belittle her. She quickly slammed the wooden hand of the axe into her knee, making her fall. She put the axe onto her neck, pinning her to the floor now. "Drop all kinds of weapons you have, or off with your head.." She whispered, but high enough for her to hear.

  • A shriek was yanked from her throat as all of a sudden a blunt force slammed into her knee, causing her to tumble down, soup can falling from her grip. The remaining contents splattered over the floor, which she, strangely enough, was more panicked about than being ambushed. She winced at the axe against her neck, trying to get a good look at her attacker. Another girl, and an aggressive one at that. Gritting her teeth, Carmen would mutter a quick "fine, fine...", reaching down for her pack of knives at her waist and loosening the strap so it would fall to the ground. "That's all. Now, please get that axe off."

  • Layla grabbed the knives and got off her, pinning her to the wall now. Her axe still aimed at her neck. The girl looked much weaker now that Layla saw her. She looked on the ground and noticed that the soup had fell on the ground, splattering everywhere. Layla started evaluating her with her eyes, seeing if she'll be that much of a harm. "Have you got any bag or anything?" She said, her hair covering half of her face. She slowly started getting away from her, but not too much, just a little bit so that her axe is only an inch or two away from her neck as she waited for her to reply.

  • She gave a little sigh of relief as the axe gave some distance, releasing the tension in her shoulders. "No, no bag." She said, though albeit hastily. "I was in a rush from... where I came from. I mean no harm. I just need some food, alright? Then I'll be out of your hair if you want."

  • Layla narrowed her eyes at her, then looked around her, making sure that she's not lying. She turned her head back towards her, looking her up and down again. As she kept looking at her, she was slowly reminded of her sister, so she couldn't continue. She smiled, slowly lowering her axe, seeing that she looked in no shape to even attack her back. She sighed, her facial expression turning neurtal now. "Well, I'll give you the chance to open another can of soup and eat it. You should be grateful I didn't kill you." She said, opening the cupboard and grabbing a can of soup, opening it too and handing it to her. "Sit in the corner there so that I can still keep an eye on you." She said, pointing towards a chair in the corner that was in horrible condition, but looked in excellent condition for somebody who's living while an apocalypse is happening.

  • Taking the can cautiously, she stepped back and sat in the chair, giving a little "oomph" at how uncomfortable it was. She sipped at it, though kept her gaze straightforward, trying to size up Layla. After swallowing, she announced, "My name is Carmen. I don't suppose you're looking for a roommate at the moment?"

  • Layla grabbed her bag and put it in the corner, before pushing a large, library cupboard that was beside the entrance in front of it, closing it as it was bigger than it. Layla exhaled a bit sharply, taking her breath after pushing such a large object. She turned towards the girl that was sitting on the chair, listening closely to what she wants to say. After hearing it, she would normally say no to such questions, but she couldn't resist the urge to go to her and hug her because of how much she looked like her sister. How much she missed her and would trade her own life just to take care of her and save her. "Hello Carmen, I'm Layla. And, yes, you could stay with me if you want." She smiled as she replied.

  • A smile broke across her face, and she took the last sip from her can before standing and setting it on the empty chair. "This is where you live, then? Sorry for breaking in. Is anyone else here?"

  • Layla nodded. "Yep, this is where I live, and no, I live here alone." She answered continuing to get pieces of furniture and cover the windows, until everything was covered. She then got out a lantern from another cupboard and got metal box full to the very rim with matches. She lit one up, then lit the candle that was in the lantern on, giving the room a bit of light..

  • She glanced around them as Layla continued to close up shop, her tongue poking out to nervously wet her lips. She still was uneasy in this new environment, but was trying hard not to show it so clearly. "Oh, um, do you have any extra clothes? I'm afraid I've been hiking for awhile in these, and they're not holding up to well. And... oh, well, there's probably not a working shower, but a jug of water I can use for cleaning or something?"

  • Layla nodded at Carmen. "I've got a few extra clothes, but I don't think you should change now, you look good enough. Keeping clothes in case needed is best." She replied, before chuckling at her second remark. "She's definitely new to this enviroment.." Layla thought before she replied. "Water is scarce around here, so no sorry, no water unless to drink.." She said, sitting on the floor in the corner beside her bag...
