It's funny how one moment can change everything.

One moment you're having a laugh with a loved one...

the next you're holding their hand and saying goodbye in a hospital room...

One moment you've got everything going for you...

the next, the ground is torn from beneath you like a surfboard in a violent wave

How do we cope when everything is turned on its head?

How do we survive such a drastic change?

    ---

Enter Olivia Grace Lancaster, a 18 year old girl born to American parents on the Pacific Island of Samoa.
After growing up around the ocean in Samoa, Grace's parents decided to move her and her two older brothers to Honolulu, Hawaii.
Grace quickly picked up surfing as a past time and within a few years, she was competing against professionals and winning.
As she grew older, she grew more beautiful and confident.
By her 18th birthday, Grace had been invited to a national surfing championship, right there in Honolulu.
Eagerly accepting the challenge, the young girl prepared to blow everyone away.
She had dedicated her heart and sole to surfing and no one was going to take it from her.

But life isn't always what we think it ought to be...

On the day of the performance, it is obvious a storm is coming. Islanders are getting antsy and there are rumors that the competition should be postponed.
But to the surfers, this is out of the question.
Undaunted and unafraid of the unforgiving sea, the competition goes on.
Despite the growing concerns from her parents, Grace goes out on the waves and proceeds to dominate the championship, as expected.
Before she can return to shore, however, the weather makes a turn for the worst and the young girl is lost in the waves.
A day later, once the waves have calmed a bit, a search party finds Grace washed up on the beach.
    She's alive, but...

    Will things be the same?
Will her once loving and supporting boyfriend accept her now that she's different?
Will Grace be able to love herself in the midst of the hugest challenge of her life?

    Will she ever surf again?

    Plot:

You will be playing Grace's loving and supporting boyfriend. We will begin the morning of the competition.

When the accident happens, your initial character will ultimately leave, Grace, leading to a state of depression for the young character.

That's where your REAL character (i know, i know) comes in and shows her that love is patient, kind, and unjudging.

He shows her that no matter what her physical appearance, she can be loved.

    It's a love story.

    It's a story about recovery.

    Just go with it :)

A little after he graduated from school, he was contacted by his mother. Anthony learned that his mother had made a new life and was living in Honululu, Hawaii. After much debate, he decided to see her, and has been living in Honululu with her since, living a calm and steady life.

Olivia Grace was sleeping hard when her alarm went off at 6 that morning. on any normal day, she may have groaned, rolled over, and stayed in bed for another ten minutes. Today, however, that alarm on her phone went off and she sat up straight like she'd touched a live wire. Today was the day. throwing her blankets away, the young girl leapt out of bed and flew to her dresser. Slipping into a pair of short white shorts to match the blue sleep top that hung down around her mid back, showing off her toned muscles as well as her pink sports bra, She began her morning routine. first, she would work out for forty-five minutes, preparing herself for the day. After that, her mother and father would probably have breakfast done. Some time during breakfast, Aleksandr would probably come over - man, she loved him - and he could come down to the beach to help her clean her board and get ready for the big competition. The whole day was set. it was going to be perfect.

Sure enough, as she was finishing up her workout, Olivia smelled the sweet smell of bacon coming from the kitchen. The smell alone made her stomach grumble with desire. Pushing through her workout, the young girl stood and ran a hand through her long brown hair, untangling a strand that was tangled in on itself. She still had that morning bedhead charm as she examined herself in the full body mirror. She looked a little sleepy, with her eyelids sitting lax over her sea foam green irises, but she had never been more awake. With one more hand through her hair, she headed out towards the smell of food.

Upon reaching the kitchen, Olivia was greeted by a warm and welcoming sight. As she'd suspected, the smell of food had woken her brothers as well. Michael, the oldest of all of them, had probably been up about as long as she had, gone to jog on the beach. The twins, Taylor and Matthias would have been more likely to have just woken up. Livy was the youngest in the family, just a year out of being ready to start college. She'd easily scored some pretty decent scholarships with her outstanding school work, but it was really her surfing that caught people's attention. That was what was going to get her places in life.

"Morning, Liv," Michael said from where he leaned against the counter. Like their father, Mike had sandy brown hair and that deep surfer tan. A thin layer of light stubble covered his chiseled jawline, making him irresistible to seemingly every girl in town. Their mother often commented that he was the spitting image of their father when she'd met him years before. They could all see it. The only difference was in his eyes; unlike their father's sea green eyes - the same eyes Olivia had inherited - Michael had startlingly light blue eyes, just like their mother. He was soft-spoken and laid back, but when Mike spoke, people listened. "Big day ahead." Tossing her a fruit from the bowl on the counter, she caught it and smiled gratefully.

"I know, right? It's gonna be epic! Can you believe I'm going to be surfing with some of the best in the world?" She knew she was good. She had always known she would be good at surfing, since the first day she'd wiped out. Surfing wasn't just a sport or hobby to her. It was her passion... an extension of her soul. Without it... she just wouldn't be herself.

Turning from the stove, her mother approached the table with a frying pan of sizzling bacon, Slowly picking out the pieces and putting them on a plate. The older woman was beautiful and though Olivia had inherited much of her father's appearance, she resembled her mother in the face and frame. She was tall and thin, with a sturdy build... like she was made to resist strong winds or pressures. That stubborn will was another trait inherited from her mother. "I don't know about that, Liv... A storm's coming in and a pretty nasty one at that. Michael said the waves were looking pretty nasty when he went running this morning. I don't think it's a good idea for them to go on with the competition."

Pursing her own lips, Olivia Grace took a bite from her fruit. "It'll be fine, Mom. They won't cancel the tournament unless it gets really bad. Besides, I've surfed in bad weather before. Rough waves are harder to work with, but that's what makes it a challenge. That's what makes it fun." There was no way Olivia would back down from this tournament. She'd been waiting her whole life for a moment like this. This was her moment. Nothing was going to stop her from living her dream.

  • Aleks was up extra early that morning, waking up almost half an hour before his alarm was set to go off. He was jusy chilling in his phone waiting for time to pass before he got ready. Normally he would sleep in and wake up closer to lunch time. Today, however, was a big day, and he could barely sleep the the night before. Today was the big surfing contest, where some of the greatest surfers would compete against each other. It just so happens that Aleks was privileged enough to have a girlfriend who would be participating in it today.

Olivia. His, just the image of her and thinking about her could bring Aleks to a smile. The two had been going strong for a little over three years. He could remember the day they met like it was yesterday. He first saw her when he was hanging out with some friends on the beach. She was surfing when she first caught his eyes. He friends noticed him staring and dared to him to talk to her when she was done. When he went to talk to her, all he could say was, "You're really pretty." Then, next thing you know, the two were together.

After Aleks finished reminiscing, he decided that it was finally time to get ready. He hopped into the shower, taking a good bit of time to wash up. He wanted to look extra good for Olivia. After finishing his shower, he stepped out in front of the mirror and took some time to do his hair up in his usual style. He then got dressed in his usual style of khakis, skate shoes, and a grey t-shirt. The t-shirt, however, was made by himself and on the front it read 'I'm with the winner' with an arrow pointing to the side. He figured she would get a laugh out of it.

Finished getting ready, Aleks walked out the door, saying a quick goodbye to his parents. Normally Aleks would drive over to her place in his bike. Today, however, he figured he would walk over, and then head to the competition with Olivia and her family. As he walked, he took a quick look up at the sky. He couldn't help but notice that it was looks kind of dark and cloudy, almost like it was gonna storm. Aleks brushed it off, though. He was confident that she could win the competition no matter what the weather was like. After about 15-20 minutes of walking, he arrived at her house. He walked up to the front door and gave a little. "Where's the world's best surfer at?" He added after knocking.

  • Olivia had been coolly sitting at the bar, watching the twins pretend to wrestle as Michael sat with their mom and dad at the table, peacefully eating breakfast. Having just finished her fruit, the young surfer decided to hold off on any food that might slow her down or make her stomach upset in anyway until after the competition. Normally one to go straight towards the bacon and eggs, she held back for now, fidgeting excitedly from where she sat.

By the time Aleks arrived, Taylor and Matthias had joined her at the bar and were eating their food while the whole family made some morning small talk. The twins did most of the talking, leaving Livy to her thoughts. She was almost too distracted by the thought of the competition later that day that she nearly missed the voice at the door. Spinning around in her chair, she spotted Aleksandr entering the house, a cheeky grin on his handsome face. A grin spread over her own attractive features and she stood up before moving over to greet him.

"Morning, Aleks," she said with a smile, wrapping her arms around his waist in a hug before leaning into him for a greeting kiss. There was some protest from the table but Olivia just smiled before pulling back and hugging him again. "Big day." She was so excited already and knowing that the boy she loved and her amazing family were going to be there with her, cheering her on, only served to pump her up more. She was in such a good mood that she didn't even roll her eyes or scoff when her mother suggested the save the PDA for later. Nothing could ruin this day for her.

Slipping her hand into his, Olivia casually led Aleks towards the table, leaning into him a bit as they walked. "Hope you haven't had breakfast yet," she said with a grin. "Mom made extra, so you're more than welcome to grab some." She didn't mention her abstinence as he already knew her rituals. She wouldn't risk anything that might lower her performance in today's match. In keeping with this, she grabbed some grapes and snacked while everyone else continued their meal.

After a few minutes, Olivia sat back at her seat at the bar, enjoying some conversation with her ohana. She loved spending time with these people and all, but she did have some alone time planned for her and Aleks a little later. As everyone was beginning to come closer to finishing their meals, she fiddled with a stray piece of hair that hung down around her face. "Hey dad, after breakfast, I was thinking Aleks and I could head down to the shack on the beach and wax my board. We can get an idea about the weather while we're down there, too. Is that okay?"

The older man of the family looked up as he swallowed the last bite of his food. He was a peaceful and reasonable man as well as wise from years of learning from mistakes. As his daughter spoke, he considered her request before nodding. "Michael and I are heading into town in a bit to get in some work at the shop." The shop of which he spoke, was a small surf shop where Mr. Lancaster and his family sold everything from surfboards to sunscreen. They had all worked there and in times like this, tourists were plentiful, meaning good business for the small shop. "Taylor and Matt are heading into town to collect groceries and supplies to prepare for this storm and your mom will be here at the house." With a nod to his wife, the man looked back to his daughter before smiling a bit. "You can go out to the shack, but you have to promise you'll be careful. If the weather starts picking up, I want you two to use your judgement and decide whether you can make it back here or not. You're smart kids. I trust you." With his blessing, Olivia stood up and moved behind him to give him a hung around the neck. She truly was daddy's little girl.

  • Aleks welcomed her hug with open arms and couldn't help but smile though the kiss. "Morning princess," he whispered in her ear as he held her close, savoring the moment for as long as possible. He took in each of her beautiful features, another goofy smile spreading acroos his face. After pulling away, he gave quick greetings to the rest of her family. Aleks face turns a light shade of red at her mother's comment and lowered his head in mock defeat. "Sorry Ms. Lancaster, I'll make sure to stay in check next time." He always tried his best to maintain a good relationship with Olivia's family. He found that being humorous helped out a lot.

Aleks followed as Olivia led him into the kitchen. Aleks let out a small chuckle before responding. "You know I wouldn't give up your mother's cooking for anything else in this world." With that invitation, Aleks grabbed a couple pieces of bacon and began eating with her and her family. He also couldn't help but steal a couple of Olivia's grapes. Like her, Aleks tried to maintain a somewhat healthy diet, so he didn't want to start the day with just bacon.

As he and her family are their breakfast, he joined in on the chatter. He sometimes envied Olivia's family, since all he had was his mother and their relationship wasn't the greatest. He shook that thought away, though. Today's was Olivia's day, and that's what he would focus on. For the rest of breakfast, Aleks ceceded from the conversation and kept his focus on her, still admiring her perfect features. Deep down, Aleks just knew that she would win to day. She could do things out on the water that others couldn't.

As time passes, Aleks began to get a little fidgety. He lived spending time with her family, but he couldn't deny that he enjoyed their one on one time more than anything. He was snapped back to reality when she explained to her father about the two going to the shack. It was almost as if she had read his mind. He slowly began to stand up as her father explained what the rest of her family was doing. "Don't worry Mr. Lancaster. I won't let anything happen to her," he assured, shooting an affectionate smile towards Olivia. With her father's approval, Aleks made his way to the front door. "After you m'lady," he told her, opening the door and gesturing towards it dramatically.

  • Olivia loved the way her boyfriend got along with her family. The two had been dating for so long now, that he practically was part of the family. Her parents trusted him and the boys all enjoyed spending time with him. Watching him as he joined them for breakfast and occasionally scolding him for stealing her grapes, she couldn't help but smile at the way he fit in. Still, when her father granted them permission to head to the beach, she felt a certain warmth rise up in her chest. Some alone time with Aleks was really what she needed on a day like today.

Quickly kissing her father on the cheek and giving her mother a hug around the neck, Liv headed towards the door. "Thanks you guys! Love you!" Deciding against changing out of the casual clothes she wore now, the young athlete left the house before taking a few steps out onto the sand. Turning back, she looked up and smiled at Aleks, the slight wind blowing hairs into her beautifully framed face. Her green eyes sparkled. "Race you to the beach," she said with a cheeky grin. Before he had a chance to say anything in return, she leapt off the porch and took off towards the water, her feet kicking up sand as she went.

Over the years, the Lancaster family had managed to work up a good deal of money. They were wealthy, but they were hard workers who had earned every bit of their money. The surf shop brought in good money, but the real dough had come from her parents former jobs. Her mother had been a marine veterinarian and her father had been on the consulting team for the island's security. He had been a lifeguard in his day and had spent the earlier years of his forties teaching younger men and women to follow in his footsteps. Together, the two of them had made quite a living for themselves and their children. On top of that, each of the children had learned to work for what they got. Nothing was handed to them and they learned the true value of hard work. Where Michael had followed their father's example and became a lifeguard, Olivia Grace had become a sports model who worked weekends at the surf shop.

Having built up their wealth, the family had bought a nice house less than a mile from the beach along with a good portion of the beach that they could call their own. No one else would bother them in the private expanse of land and it was perfect for Olivia to practice surfing. Luckily, it was one of the most private places on the island of Honolulu, perfect for some messing around too, if one so chose. The 18 year old knew for a fact that the twins often brought girls down here to try and romance them. She also knew it often worked.

Running towards the beach, she ducked through low hanging tree branches and jumped over roots and rocks. The terrain wasn't too bad, but she had learned to be careful. That said, with her head start and superior experience on the land, she would easily beat her boyfriend to the private beach. Smiling and not even breaking a sweat, she leapt over a large fallen branch before breaking the tree line and stepping onto the soft sand of the beach.

  • Once outside the house, he took a moment to take in her amazing features. "Race you to the beach," was all he he at d before she took off sprinting towards the beach. "No fair!" Aleks yelled after her, shaking his dumbfounded look off of his face and racing after her. He managed to keep up with, only a couple feet apart, but he knew he wouldn't be able to over take her. There were just too many factors against him. His girlfriend was in better shape than him, he hasn't exactly dressed for running, and he hasn't ran in a while. Not to mention the head start that she had.

In the past, in a race like this, Aleks would've had a better chance. Throughout high school, he had been one of the star players on the track team and could run like the wind. However, halfway through high school, the blonde suffered a leg injury. It wasn't too serious to the point where he couldn't use the leg, but serious enough that the doctors advised him against doing any sort of sports. He would run every know and then, but it was always at the cost of a little bit of pain.

His leg also held him back from sharing Olivia's passion of surfing. Aleks always admired her skills out in the water and always wished he could be out there with her. With his leg, though, he had very little control and balance. As a result, he gets to sit on the sidelines and cheer her on. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Aleks shook all the thoughts away as he and Olivia neared the private part of the beach that her family owned.

Just as he was about to slow down, Aleks tripped over what felt like a rock. Twisting himself midair, he landed on his back next to where Olivia had stopped with a thud. He looked up at her and gave her a goofy smile. "I totally planned that." He stared up into the sky, noticing that the sky and clouds seemed to be getting darker. It was probably nothing, his eyes were just messing with him. "Hey babe, you should join me down here," he told Olivia, looking back at her. "I hurt myself and I need a kiss to make it feel better," he added, giving her a quick wink.

  • As they reached the beach, Olivia smiled as a warm gust of wind blew through her, throwing her hair out of her face and tugging at her loose clothes. The air smelled like salt and the possibility of rain. The sky certainly did look dark and the waves were choppy. On any normal day, she wouldn't chance surfing on waves that rough, but today was different. Today was going to change her life. There was no way she was stepping back from that kind of opportunity.

Turning to face the trees as her all but graceful boyfriend tripped and landed sprawled out at her feet in the sand, she couldn't help but laugh a little. She placed a hand on her nicely curved hip and grinned down at him. Kneeling down next to him, she poked his nose. "I don't know, babe... My dad and Michael are the ones who know first aid. Maybe I should go get one of them for you." She raised her eyebrows at him as she teased him before leaning in and pressing her lips to his once again.

The kiss lasted a good few seconds before she pulled away. "Come on, let's get to the shack before it starts raining on us." She stretched her hand out to offer the support as he stood up. "If you hurry... maybe I'll let you rub down more than just my board." It was her turn to wink as she cheekily pushed him before taking off towards the small shack that was down the beach a bit. Like her brothers, Olivia had taken advantage of the beach's isolated qualities before. This was one of her favorite places to fool around with her boyfriend and she had some ideas for a little stress relief as she ran towards the beaten down looking shack.

Approaching the small building, it didn't look like much. From the outside, it looked rather rough, like it had survived many powerful storms, which in fact it had. Once you got inside, however, there was a sense of calm that washed over you. The place smelled like the sea and had quite a few seashell wind chimes dangling from the ceiling. In the center of the room was large table where the family washed and prepared their boards. When Olivia had been younger, her father had brought her out here and taught her how to make her own board. She had been a natural and had since helped him make boards for the surf shop in town.

Towards the back of the small room was a curtain that led back into the smallest bedroom you'd ever see. It consisted of a small bed, barely big enough for two people and a small nightstand and that was it. As awkward as the room looked, however, the bed was one of the most comfortable temporary beds one could ask for. Her father had put it in for emergency use only, but as the kids had gotten older, they'd used it for their own purposes.

Overall, the small shack was meant to provide safety and the ability to survive if a storm were to come out of nowhere and strand someone there. Reaching the outside of the shack, Olivia turned around and pressed her back to the wall by the door, waiting for Aleks to catch up. Her chest heaved just slightly now but she was grinning ear to ear. Nothing could ruin this day for her. Nothing at all.

  • He continued to lay there, savoring the kiss for the couple seconds that it lasted. "I would take that over Michael or your father's first aid anyday," he told her jokingly. He stayed there for a couple more seconds, feeling the sand against his skin and feeling it mix within his blonde hair. He knew he would regret laying there, he would be covered in sand once he got up. He laughed at himself internally.

Aleks shot up almost instantly at the sound of her teasing words. "How can I turn down an offer like that?" He quipped as he began walking towards the shack. The two had fooled around in the shack a couple times before. Olivia's suggestion caught him by surprise, for he thought she'd want to stay focused on the competition. Aleks wasnt going to complain, though. A cheeky smile began to spread on his face as he walked, remembering past experiences in the shack.

He pushed his dirty thoughts away as he neared the shack and began reminiscing. He and Olivia had shared many experiences at the shack. It was almost like the pair's get away spot. Sometimes they had come to be alone, and other times they had used it to escape the storms. They had shared many fun experiences in the shack.

Aleks looked at Olivia had she rested against the outside wall of the shack. As he neared it he have her a warm smile. He took his Snapback off and used it to motion towards the inside of the shack as he opened the door. "After you," he told her. It was a bit if a running thing between them that Aleks would always hold the door for her. As he stood there he took a quick peek inside the shack. He always found it amusing how the shack looked so tiny from the outside but ended up feeling somewhat big on the inside.

  • Olivia grinned as she entered the small shack through the door he held open for her. Looking around, she exhaled in relief. The place always made her feel safe and calm. It wasn't much, but it was kind of cozy. Once she was inside, she turned around and looked at him with a smile. Without saying anything, she closed the distance between them, grasping the front of his shirt and pulling him in, she kissed him deeply, simply loving his presence. Contrary to popular belief, she would be more distracted if she didn't spend some time with him now.

"I'm so glad you're here with me..." she said, pulling away and staring up into his eyes. Wrapping her arms around his waist, she hugged him close. "Come on, let's get some work done." Letting him go, she slowly made her way over to the desk where her board lied, ready to be waxed and prepared for the afternoon's ride. Carefully stripping off her shirt, she stood before the board in her bikini top. Tossing the shirt back so that it wouldn't get dirty while she was cleaning her board, she smiled at Alkes before starting to clean the board.

When she was really young, Olivia's father taught her how to properly take care of her board. She had built up some strength over the years and could easily take care of herself. In fact, before she'd started dating Aleksandr, she'd literally fought off her fair share of no good boyfriends. Now, however, she was happier than she'd ever been. She was going places and if everything worked out, he was going with her. She trusted him.

  • Aleks gave no resistance as she pulled him into the shack and into a deep kiss. Once they broke away, he stared back into her eyes, he light brown eyes giving her a warm and loving gaze. He wrapped his arms around her and held her close, cherishing the warmth the two shared. It was safe to safe that hugging was his favorite form of affection, and he just couldn't help but smile.

Aleks gave a little pout when she pulled away from him and declared they get to work. Replacing it with a smile of content he walked over to where Olivia had begun working on her board. He took his hay off, running a hand through his hair, and placed it on her. He always took his hay off when indoors, and he had the running joke of putting it on Olivia. He always told her that she actually looked kind of cute with it on.

Looking at the board as she worked on it, a blank and somewhat confused expression on his face. Aleks didn't know too much about taking care of a board and how you work on it. When she would work on her board, he would just offer whatever assistance was needed. He usually just carred out the small, menial tasks.

  • Olivia leaned over her board, a soft smile on her face as she slowly and rhythmically rubbed it down. She hummed as she worked to clean it, thinking about Aleks standing behind her as well as about the tournament later on. There would be a small photoshoot before she hit the waves. It wouldn't be a big deal, but the company she was modeling for had mentioned wanting to put her on the front cover of their magazine for the coming month. Whether she won the competition or not, she was going to get a lot of publicity.

Turning to face Aleks, Olivia tilted her head to look up at him slyly. She was tall for her age but he was still a bit taller. Grinning a bit, she looped her thumbs through his belt loops and leaned against the table where her board lay. "I'm glad you're out here with me..." she said softly, her green eyes catching some of the dim light from outside. Her hair still hung messily from the bun on her head, but just a few strands had escaped to tickle the bare skin around her collarbone. Pulling herself up, she moved him a bit closer to her, wrapping her arms gently around his waist, still staring up at him lovingly. All she wanted in this moment was to be close to him.

As she leaned in for another kiss, there was a low rumble of thunder followed by a complete, sudden downpour of rain. Turning her head away from Aleks for a good look out the window, she stared at the glass as water distorted the images past it. Smiling a little, she looked back up at him. "Looks like we're stuck here for a while..." she said coolly. "What do you suppose we should do with that time?" She stood up on her tip toes just enough to gently kiss his cheek.
