  • THE STARS NEVER WHISPERED MY NAME && TAGS

variscite let out a grunt as he ripped out a deep rooted weed. jeez, he thought. did no one tend to the yards of the empty houses? the dens in shadowclan were unique, being up in the trees, but that didn't mean they had to ignore the ones on the ground. gripping a weed by the teeth, he ripped it out and tossed it onto the growing pile. he was lucky that he'd been able to snaggle himself a den that was on the forest floor and not up in the trees; it'd be easier for him to garden down here, where the ground actually was.

it was probably too early for him to be up, but vari found it easier to garden in the cool mornings. the tom hummed a low note to himself. gradually the sun rose, light poking through the canopy and bringing light to the forest floor. bent over, you'd think that his face would be tense and weary; but he was as calm as could be. the thick silence coated the forest and him like a comforting blanket, only broken by the sound of his grunts and breathing.

"ah," he suddenly exclaimed. moving away from his hut, a purr erupted from him. he'd created a solid two piles of weeds (which he'd find some use for) and now he could really see the ground in front of his hut! it looks better already,he mused. just wait until i start planting. ooo, just the thought made his heart race with excitement! this was going to be one of the biggest gardens he'd make, with all the available space around his hut.

  • Luca knew it was time for him to go to bed. The sun was coming up and he was useless during the day, but Variscite had managed to catch his attention. Luca slid down the curved side of his tree, stairs took too much time. He shook off the moss that'd accumulated on his paws from his little trick before trotting over towards his roguemate. He'd never been one for gardening; the unnatural amount of heat that radiated from his body didn't mix well with plant life, and a lot of flora wilted when it came in contact with his paws. Not to mention the feeling of dirt in his fur was less than pleasant. "Hiya, um..." he paused. He never learned this guy's name, right? "Ah, sorry, what's your name?" He asked, shuffling his paws with an embarrassed look on his face. Excellent start to a conversation, Luca. Smooth like a hot knife through butter.

  • Xia has the same issue as Luca, though through different means. Whereas he could produce a forest fire, she could inflict a winter chill over the plants. Herbs and the such amused her, so much so that she had learned a few, but it took forever to learn how to handle plants without harming them, or freezing them. The least she could do to them was make some frost and ruin the edges, while the most - well, winter storms certainly did a number on many things.

Still, the young girl decided to follow her older brother and see what he found interesting. Sure, he may not like her all that much, but that didn't stop her from trying to impress him, or at least get a neutral opinion from him. Her eyes landed on the weeds, and she took a few cautious steps. "Isn't it a little early for some gardening?" she asked idly, her cold breath dissipating as soon as she could will it to.

variscite looked to luca, faint surprise in his green gaze. "oh, hello." he blinked once, before amusement filled his gaze. "it's variscite," he gave the other a reassuring smile. "don't worry about it. happens all the time." well, no, it actually didn't but that wasn't the point. it was to make the other feel better. "something tells me i should have noticed others were awake sooner," he glanced over at luca once once before looking to xia.

"ah, well." he paused, looking off to the side. how to explain this? "it's easier to do this stuff in the morning, if you know what i mean." oh shoot, what if she doesn't, he panicked. "but er, technically, i haven't even started gardening yet." he looked towards the two piles of torn up weeds. "i was taking out the weeds. before you two came, this whole yard-" he gestured with a paw to the clear ground in front of his garden. "-was covered with weeds. it was really, really covered. i don't even know how long i've been up," a small laugh escaped him, before he went quiet.

he bet he was so boring to listen too. glancing away, he cleared his throat aloud. "so, yeah." variscite went to bed late, but getting up early was still easy for him. he supposed that he'd just gotten so used to being tired, it's become a default state for him.

  • Relief filled Luca's face at Variscite's reassurance, and he flashed him a bright smile. It was kind of a long name, so surely he wouldn't mind being given a nickname. Luca would ask him about that later, he supposed. He glanced at Xia as she approached, flicking an ear in a silent sort of greeting. Even if he didn't like his siblings by default, it would still be rude to ignore them.

Variscite's somewhat awkward response reminded Luca a little of Duskmire, and he resisted the tempting urge to purr. "That sounds like a lotta work," Luca mused, tilting his head at the other. "Do you do this sorta thing often?" He continued, eyes moving to stare at the piles of weeds. He couldn't imagine it- Luca lacked that sort of dedication to anything.

//sorry my muse is so bad im dying

variscite stifled a snort before realizing how that must have sounded like. slightly apologetic, he mewed, "oh yeah, for sure. it is a lot of work but it pays off in the end." his eyes brightened at luca's next question. "gardening is my life." his tone was softer and slightly fond. "which um," yikes, that sounded like he didn't do anything else but garden. "isn't the one thing i do, of course, but gardening is my passion," the tom padded towards the piles of weeds. "this? this is the boring part, taking out the weeds. just wait till i start putting the seeds down."

there was an excited edge to his voice as he continued. "with all this available space, i can really go all out. i was thinking of putting food stuff near my house while having a bunch of flowers on the outside but to be honest, i'm just going to go with the flow on this one." variscite looked over at luca and xia. "it's going to look fantastic." before, the tom's body was tense but now there was a content look settled on his face.
