  • *There is an old adage; to snap one arrow is no hard task. To snap two is more difficult.*

The lesson? When people stand together, they are able to withstand much harsher trials.

    Plot:

Without overwhelming you with too much detail, two regular strangers from the real world(our characters) will awaken in a fantasy world with no knowledge of how they got there and only the clothes on their backs. Before they can even try to figure out how to get home(if they want to) they'll have to learn to survive in a medieval-magical world fraught with castles and keeps, ogres and Minotaur, fairies and elves, dragons, griffons and anything else we can come up with!

    Your character:

*If you want this to be mature, you need to make them of appropriate age. Otherwise, if you want to be younger or don't want to do mature(or can't) I'm fine playing platonic.

*No mary sue/ gary stews please. Flaws mean character growth and story advancement.

*Regular person- not cybernetic or bionic, no government science experiment or anything like that. Things like filthy rich(previously) or actor/model, or skipped-three-grades smart are OK.

*This is NOT a purely romantic thread, though that can play a major role if you want. Keep that in mind.

*Your character can have ONE BASIC power. This will not have existed before entry into this world and so will not be known/understood easily. You don't have to reveal it at the get go and can leave it for a surprise or to get the characters out of a sticky situation!

~Basic powers are anything that does not effect all matter of things, i.e. not limitless mind control, matter manipulation, life force manipulation, etc. Things like fire that can be honed into lightning or water that can be made into ice are acceptable though.

    You:

    *Please use proper grammar.

*Post length is flexible, but if you're only posting one sentence, make it count! Not just "They sat there wondering what to do next"

*Post time is also flexible, but if you're going to be away for more than a week, a heads-up would be both courteous and much appreciated. I personally can be counted on for 3-5 daily.

*Don't grab and ghost. If you don't want to do the thread anymore, I won't fault you for it- just tell me you're done.

*Make other characters when you need them and ditch them when you're done. Or don't. They're yours- but your side characters are controlled SOLELY by you and mine by me.

*Add to the story, it's fairly open just for this requirement! You have a creative flame in you and this story shall be your kindling!

*If more than one person wants this thread, PM me*

    My Character(for this thread's version):

    doi-mat-hut-hon-cua-nang-bach-tuyet-Lily-Collins-6.jpg

    faceclaim: lily collins

    Kyle Portsmith

    19

    Female

    Bisexual

    History: Mystery, TBR in thread

Personality: Get-things-done, do it right, honest, forthright planner. She's not a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of gal. She likes order and she likes control. Without these, depending on her day thus far, how much is lost, and what caused her to lose these things she can become cold or flustered. It's kind of a coin toss which. Either way, she is generally very mature, though if she tries to be immature or 'fun' it's usually dorky and unintentionally amusing.

    Outfit on Arrival:

    Post:

Though she was vaguely aware she'd fallen asleep, Kyle was sure the L-train seats weren't this uncomfortable. At the very least they were smooth, but it felt like she was sitting on something and her back felt uneven and lacking in the attempt at an ergonomic curve and angle she was so accustomed to. She wanted to shift, but as she opened up just enough brain power for that, she recognized that her music had stopped. Maybe Pandora was asking if she was still listening- she enjoyed the white noise of electric chill music on these long routes and moved her hand to her pocket to pull it out. It wasn't there. She reached for her bag, but that was gone too. Her eyes shot awake and immediately crinkled- the sun was right above her. She was surrounded by trees, and sitting on the ground. There were the sounds of birds and various insects sounding out and there was not one single other person in sight. Panting heavily, and eyes wide in surprise, but obviously trying to remain calm and controlled, she jumped to her feet finding all the clothes she'd put on still in tact, and her body seemingly unharmed. She needed to orient herself. This was just some horrible prank- she must have been hauled off the L by somebody and left out here for some kind of gag someone wanted to go viral. If she could just find the Sears Tower spikes or find a road... she reached for her phone in her pocket to only be reminded of disappointment. So it was also a mugging. Already she was pissed enough to forget how scared she was, and was formulating a plan to return to civilization.

just a warning. I'm posting from mobile and it might very well go horribly wrong coding wise.

  • Looks good to me(though just so you know, the link to your Outfit didn't come out- it sends me to an html script page) but otherwise, she looks good to go. You can go ahead and post.

  • -thank you! I can fix the outfit when I get to my laptop after my final. Honestly her outfit is/should be when I find a picture, basically jeans, combat boots a T-shirt and a jacket.

Devin was not aware she fell asleep. The tree she had been sitting in felt wider beneath her as her mind moved back into consciousness. She kept her eyes closed, using her other senses to try to determine her surroundings. She thought it'd be safer to continue to seem asleep than to open her eyes and sprint off. She heard no children from the playground she had been resting by. The world was flatter beneath her body, and distinctly not tree branch-like. Slowly she began testing her limps, subtly moving fingers and toes, arms and legs, searching for any sign of pain. Her face lacked the tightness of tape over her mouth and lack of a gag.

So she wasn't gaged, she wasn't tied up, she wasn't injured. Devin listed for a beat longer, and found a lack of voices. She opened her eyes and pushed to her feet, her gaze darting over the surroundings. Well, this certainty wasn't the tiny park in the middle of the city. Where the hell was she? She rubbed a hand over her face and began walking.

  • ((:Alright, that sounds fine to me- if it doesn't work no biggee. I just put a picture of mine so I didn't have to write it out - w-U :))

The first thing that came to mind was, of course, climbing a tree tall enough to gauge her proximity to the city, but as soon as she began walking, Ky's senses started throwing up flags left and right. Where trees indiginous to the American mid-west ought to be growing she found ones from the east coast and the north- there was also the little discrepancy of them being full of green instead of the bright colors of fall. Okay, okay- this could be someone's doing, and it wasn't like foreign trees didn't show up where they didn't belong in this day and age- maybe she was just in a grove of peculiarity. It became obvious why the trees were so green- the longer she moved, the more she noted the balmy temperature. Loosening her infinity scarf she listened now. There was not a single bird call she could recognize. Swallowing, her brain kicked into gear- keeping her calm and her mind clear, staving off panic in the midst of confusion. The smell of this place was weird, the sounds were foreign and she had been walking for nearly 20 minutes and had not heard a single engine, voice, powerline hum, or any other indication of intelligent life anywhere. Everything about this felt wrong down to her very core.

    She began to run.

Taking care to orient herself using the sun, or more or less it's shadows angle, to be sure she didn't end up going in a circle as could often happen in this kind of environment, Ky controlled her breathing and worked her cardio, straining her ears for familiar sounds and her eyes for helpful sights. How long would it take? How far had she gone already? With the sun she should be heading north and yet why did she feel like she was going the wrong direction? When would she be safe? What would happen to her if she couldn't make it in time?

Just as her mind was at once spinning and stopping itself from doing so, her stony face scrunching in frustration, there was an anomalous color splash just off her path that her keen eyes desperately latched onto and she slowed to a stop when she saw that the splash was a red haired woman walking along.

    Oh, finally...

"Hey!" She called out, raising an arm and making mental notes of the direction she'd been going before turning to go after the stranger, "Hey, excuse me, but I need directions."

  • - okay so the image should work now. Sorry this took longer than I expected. I came home and just passed out.

Devin couldn't help the panic planting it's talons in her mind as she walked along. She recognized nothing as she walked. Her thoughts became occupied with a thousand questions she had no answers to. Where was she? How did she get here? Why did she not have her phone or wallet or even the book she had been holding? Was someone looking for her? Would someone find her? Each question had the tempo of her heart increasing. Dev wiped her clammy palms on her jeans. At least she had her jacket. Sure, it wasn't thick but it was better than nothing.

She debated picking up the pace, but what good was running if she had no clue what she was running to? She wasn't being followed, she felt no eyes watching her, and thankfully she wasn't going in circles. Or was she? No, she hadn't been walking long enough to loop around yet.

Oh God, what if I'm in the Blair Witch woods? She paused at the thought, her mind racing through everything she could have done in the last day that would have warranted being trapped in the woods with the Blair Witch. Nothing. She lived in Dublin. No where near that. Not to mention it was a horror movie and not real life. Wait, was it based on a true story? Dev had no idea. She was going to take her chances and tell herself that it was fake. Well, until she started seeing stick figures hanging from the trees. She rubbed a hand over her face and stopped for a moment.

Her eyes turned upward toward the sky, making an approximation on the time. She had time before she lost sunlight. She'd have to find shelter before then. For now, she should keep walking, maybe find a stream. She was not going to die out here, that much she was sure of. If only she still had her knife on her. But no, Aunt Cathleen wouldn't let her bring that to college. She could get in trouble. It was an argument to even get martial arts lessons. Apparently, King women don't need to resort to violence and men don't like it when girls are too strong. Devin rolled her eyes at the memory.

Her head shot toward the first voice she heard since her arrival. Her body shifted into a fighter's stance, her arms at a casual distance from her sides. Her body was as taunt as a bowstring, even when a girl around her age emerged from the trees. She watched as the girl raised an arm and asked for directions. Devin's head tilted ever so slightly to the left. "Sorry, love. I don't think I can help you there." She wasn't even sure where she was, how could she help someone else get somewhere? Devin's brows furrowed, why were two girls so hopelessly lost in these woods? What had happened to them? Who was this girl? What was she doing here?

Great, more questions. Just what I needed.

  • ((:Cool, it works, and no problem; for whatever reason I was never even alerted to your reply, and just came back to this thread out of curiosity. Sorry for the delay:))

Taking deep breaths to avoid panting, and slowing to a stop looking around, Ky blinked unamusedly, licking her top lip and bringing it down to bite in her frustration as she looked off into what most assuredly was more endless nature. She heaved a sigh, her hands on her hips and gathered her thoughts once again. Having another person here, seeing another human, eased her a bit upon the encounter. Her accent was certainly foreign, maybe Scotch or Irish- Ky often had trouble distinguishing which was which- so at first she believed she had no idea where they were and she might just be a lost tourist. The less likely possibilities, though, were the ones that were always more concerning- was Ky now somewhere on the British Isles? That would certainly explain her inexperience with the flora and fauna. Or, had the two of them been kidnapped? The other girl was not homely and without being conceited about it, Ky knew she wasn't considered ugly, so was this some kind of set up? A quick glance at her pockets revealed that the tight quarters did not shape around any devices or belongings thicker than a sheet of paper or so, so she assumed this girls things were gone same as hers which suggested intelligent intent. Unless she was Amish, maybe even on Rumspringe but at this point she recognized she was too far off the acceptable edge of the bell curve and reeled herself back in. For now, she needed to take advantage of the meeting and extract a bit more information on the situation. Who even said that this woman had appeared here under the same circumstances?

"I'll assume you're lost too. I came from South of here," She pointed before tuning back, "And nothing's down that way for at least a couple miles, uh, a few kilometers. I don't know how I got here, seeing as I was on the L, but I fell asleep. I was also, apparently, robbed. Do you remember anything about how you got here? Car? Bus? Trail? Anything?" The brunette's thick eyebrows tried to relax but only managed to unfurl into a light scowl as she waited and listened for the answer. There was so little control over this whole scene, and what's more so little control over what should have been untakeable- her own memories. Still, there was absolutely no use in panicing or letting the fear in. Right now, she needed info. Information was power. Information was control. Information was comfort.

All of a sudden at some point, from somewhere to her left, Ky began to hear thunder. Looking up, the sky was mostly obstructed by foliage and canopy, but she could see a good bit of blue. A summer storm? From the same direction, a flock of birds went soaring overhead, probably white and with a body shape that was a lot like a storks or cranes. While one part of her was delighted by the sight of the birds- it meant somewhere in that direction must be a pond or a lake or some body of water which could very well mean a river or stream which would likely lead to some kind of settlement- the other part was alarmed because the thunder that had apparently flushed them was not only still rolling, unusual for sky phenomena, but was getting closer. It could now quite safely be assumed to be hooves. Would it veer off? Was it a stampede of deer? Was it a mounted police force? Was it danger? She could only guess.

"We should move." She said alloud to the other female, but she was already climbing a tree. Whatever it was, there was no use trying to outrun it and the ground left the possibility for trample or burial. At least in tree she could hide.
