OOC THREAD: The Golden Age of Sky Piracy (Low-Fantasy Steampunk RP - OOC Thread)

Following bit is not necessary knowledge, but helpful to know when combat inevitably rolls around.

Also not necessary, but extremely helpful to know

    RULES:

    1. (Rather obviously) No Mary Sues. Nobody here is omnipotent, and everyone can die very, very easily.

    2. Combat engagements will likely occur between players. Instead of asking between the two, players will roll a D10 on the following website if combat occurs: https://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm - The highest roll wins.

    3. D10s will be rolled if any combat action is taken. If a player rolls a one, it is a critical failure, and will likely cause harm to the person who rolled it (E.G. Cannons exploding in your face, dying of overexertion from magic, steam valve blowing in your face and knocking you out). If a player rolls a ten, it is a critical success, and it not a very good thing for a person on the receiving end of the attack (As in, 9 times out of 10, you will die). If a player loses a roll to another player, they must roll another D10, this time trying to get a roll at or above that of their enemy. If they fail, the character dies. If they succeed, the character is knocked unconscious, likely critically wounded. The rules change a little for hand-to-hand combat, failing to beat an enemy's roll if defeated will have you knocked unconscious, whereas succeeding will only see you knocked down.

    4. (Rather obviously) Post the results of your roll on the post itself.

    5. Read the entire background posting. You'll understand this more if you've actually read it.

    6. Obviously there is some sensitive subject matter at play here, and it is very abundantly clear that it will come into play in the RP. Not everything is great, not all pirates are pro-equal rights, racism is still very real.

    7. You can make as many characters as you'd like, but be sure to have no more than 3 active at any given time, simply for the sake of keeping things non-confusing.

    8. Enjoy yourself!

    COMBAT RULES:

    1. D10s are the lay of the land. Those are the only die you will ever roll for combat.

    2. If you roll a 1 while attacking, roll the dice again. 5 or below: Severe injury, possibly fatal if you roll a 1 again. 6-10: You are knocked unconcious.

    3. Surviving an enemy attack works much the same way as rule 2, except anything below a 3 on the saving roll is fatal. If it is a critical success, anything below a 4 is fatal.

    4. Hand-to-hand functions very differently. In order to kill another player, you have to roll a 10, and they will have to roll a 1 for defense twice (Once for the basic defense, once for the saving throw). Beating them with any other roll will see you knock them out.

    5. If you lose a roll while defending, roll a D10 and add that roll to your other roll. If it is the same as, or beats the enemy's roll, you survive. If you fail again, refer to rule 2.

    6. Bonuses can be added to combat skills at up to +1. Refer to character creation for more detail.

Form: (delete anything in parentheses, please.)

Appearance: (Either a picture or a description. Both wouldn't hurt either. Does not include clothing. Picture does not need to be fantasy, nor does it need to be steampunk. Also does not have to be an actual picture- illustrations will do.)

Name: (Orcs and Elves do not, in fact, have different naming conventions. Just name them as you would a normal person. You can put nicknames on there, of course, but please put them in quotation marks.)

Age: (The average lifespan of a human at this time is around 78 years, Elves 88, and Orcs 60. Use this as reference)

    Gender:

History: (You don't have to give a year-by-year run, just a date of birth and some basic background history is serviceable. Of course, the more you write, the merrier :) )

Skills: (Put 3 things your character is good at. If it has something to do with combat, you get a +1 on all rolls relating to that skill. You can not have more than one combat skill [So no having skills in swords and firearms, etc.])

Weaknesses: (Put 3 things your character is not so good at, whether it a personality quirk or otherwise. If it has something to do with combat, you get -1 on all rolls relating to that thing.)

Personality: (Speaking of personality, you get to describe that here! Is your character a completely unfeeling sociopath, or a Robin Hood-styled crusader? Go into as much detail as you see fit!)

Job: (Put what your character does professionally here. Yes, this includes criminal, and yes, this also includes pirate.)

Affiliations: (Put anyone your character affiliates with here, including individuals as well as groups such as militaries. If your character is a soldier, put all branches of that government's military, as well as that government.)

    Other: (Rule 3)

    My Form:

    Appearance: average-guy-225x300.jpg

An 177cm, average build man with a non-formal posture at all times.

    Name: Nathaniel "Nate" Hiller

    Age: 32

    Gender: Male

History: Born on January 1st, 1835 in London, Nate Hiller was born to two career criminals. His early life was seemingly one big list of hardships, with his parents being arrested on two separate occasions, once when he was 6, and again when he 15. By the time the young boy had made it out of school, his parents had been arrested a third time, this time finally seeing them executed. With resolve, Hiller went to the Mage's School of the British Empire, and was subsequently accepted into the program. It didn't take long for him to drop out, as the physically taxing nature of the Intensive Magic left him feeling drained and unable to work. With a failed education and a bad reputation, courtesy of his parents, Hiller was denied at every job he applied for. Eventually, he found himself dating an elf, one who happened to be good friends with Legretta Scott. When the two were introduced, the two quickly became good friends. Hiller swiftly found his way aboard her ship, a trusty member of her crew, where he has remained for the last 3 years. His primary residency is now aboard the ship, with a small home in Port Parteau alongside many of his fellow crewmen.

Skills: Basic Destructive Magic (+1 to basic D. Magic attacks) Naturally Charismatic, decently competent

Weaknesses: Hand-to-hand combat (-1 to all hand-to-hand attacks and defenses), Alcoholic, Over-reliant

Personality: What many would describe as a "good man in a bad situation." Hiller is the sort you'd see leading a group of men into battle. It's something that has been recognized by Captain Scott, and it is something he is relatively known for among criminals. When you need a man to rally the rest, Hiller's natural charisma is just something many would lean towards. Though he does not have many other aspirations, Nate Hiller is a man with his eye on the ball, and he is consistently ranked as one of the most reliable men in the sky.

    Job: Pirate

Affiliation: Legretta Scott and the crew of the Kimberly, Charon Waterly

  • Major WIPs so far!!

  • OOC: To address your question, AI.bot, it is entirely possible to survive a 10 from another player, and it is just as possible to survive a 1. 1s will always harm the user, though not to the extent I described in the rule. Essentially, if you roll a 1 while attacking, you are going to roll the dice again. If you roll a 5 or below, your character severely injured, possibly killed. If you roll a 6 through a 10, you will simply be knocked unconscious. If an enemy rolls a 10 while attacking, you'll do the same thing. If the enemy rolls a 10 while attacking and you roll a 1 for defense? You are dead, not doubt. (This is actually a very good question, I am definitely going to work this into the rules section of the original post. I might even expand an entirely new section just for combat, as it might be a bit more involved then what some people are used to on the website.)

In other news, there are some other updates to the original post, including a new section of lore (Notable Events), and links to the OOC thread!

OOC Thread: The Golden Age of Sky Piracy (Low-Fantasy Steampunk RP - OOC Thread)

EDIT: Combat rules added, please refer to them when combat kicks off.

  • The post was edited 6 times, last by aeiou ().

  • Tracking!! - and since your combat system is roll-based (awesome!) are there racial effects to certain actions? Say, an Orc would add a +1 to their roll if they were performing a physical attack, but subtract -1 if they attempted magic and hadn't dedicated a significant amount of time to the craft?

  • There aren't any racial effects, I wanted to leave RP opportunities as simple as possible, with only one actual modifier ever being available (that being in combat for a single type of combat skill).

  • oh, goodness, this sounds like fun!! (as for fcs, would you prefer real life or anime or realistic fcs?? oh, and do orcs have the traditional and usual look (yknow, green skin, sharp teeth, brawny and tall) or do they appeara different in this verse?)

  • aight, aight. how about the question about orcs? are they the dnd or wow style of orcs? are they portrayed any differently in this verse? {don't worry, will delete my posts later to make room, aha.}

  • I was thinking more the way they were portrayed in D&D, though really more integrated then they are in D&D. I believe I also state somewhere in the OP that Orcs and Elves are essentially just different looking people, they have no different naming conventions and nothing really special aside from how they look. If I haven't, I'll definitely get around to it when I collect my notes for the next edit.

  • i had to admit, people going hi anus scared me until i read sathanus

    anyway, major wips
