"I thought that you must be really thirty and hungry, so i went to the near by lake and bushes to get you some berries and water." Fruit such as berries was small, sweet and juicy. So they will help hydrate and fill without giving to much at once, in a empty stomach, quite well.
She walked over to him, not much afraid of hi sending her away since it would be rather stupid to send away someone who was giving you something you needed, well at least she thought that. Although even if he did, she was stubborn enough that she would go as far as to force the water and food on him. Probably due to being used to having to deal with people in her village being to stubborn or over prideful to let her help them. It was usually travelers or the men and children.
She glanced at the cuffs, she guessed she would need to help him drink the water. At least be his hand anyway, she also wondered how such cuffs would get off, she saw now key hole of any sort. Or even the line where they encircled his wrist, just how did they get on? Cuffs made of magic were far beyond her, magic these days after all was only heard of in churches and the battlefield. Knowledge of how to do magic was out of grasp for a commoner such as her.
She knelt by him and placed the basket down beside her. Then she held onto the jug with both hands, looking over at him. " Do you need my help drinking?" It was obvious he did, but she asked anyway, waiting for a nod while not bothering to ask if he was even thirsty. Though it was her being nice about it, since if it were someone she already knew, she would have just gone and done it already.

This kid... who is she? She's completely oblivious to everything! Wait... This could be my chance, if she doesn't know any magic... Then if I managed to get these chains off... I'd be...!
He managed to look up at her, and though his senses were fuzzy he was able to hear her question and simply gave a small nod in return, unable to do anything else.
Tch, being given water by a mere mortal... Lucifier would not be proud of his second in command being treated in such a way, however... Considering Lucifier died in that battle, that would...It suddenly dawned upon him what that meant-
That would make me the next demon king...! The next to lead doomsday... The one to open Pandora's box!
He let out another low groan, it had been a long painful procedure but he managed to tap into the magic in the air and absorb energy and nutrients from it, however this wasn't enough to keep him fit and near,y starving himself wouldn't of allowed him to escape, as the cuffs would shrink or enlarge themselves depending on his size, so that they would always be a tight, perfect fit.
But this kid... The fact she never ran from me... she could be a extremely worthy and loyal death knight, if her soul was extracted correctly and given the right kind of body...
He looked up at her weakly, before once again attempting to pull at his chains, once again failing. -
Once given the permission she carefully brought the jug up to his lips and slowly poured in a bit of water into his mouth once she saw it open. She made sure he got small amounts at a time, recalling the best way to give and amount to give to someone who really needed water. Once the jug lost a quarter of its contents she pulled it away and placed it at her side.
"I'll give you more water in a bit, just not good to take a whole lot in one sitting..." Lily then picked up the basket, putting it on her lap as she picked up one of the blue berries. Starring at his eyes a moment waiting to see if he was okay with the berry. Considering she had met someone before who got horrible rashes from eating them, though she was unsure why.
She then got to feeding him a few berries, going back to water now and then. After a bit of time, she decided to try some conversation. "By the way, my name's Lily. I apologize that the best I can do is give you food and water for now" she said with her head slightly tilted down as she looked at her hands.
She was quick to look up as she continued to talk, eyes glued to his. Even if she was aware of ones standing by here, she was usually one to keep her eyes to theirs and not the floor. It wasn't her pride nor any sort of way to show disrespect, she just saw everyone as they were, another living being trying to make it in the world.
" I would love to learn of your name, but I suppose that should wait for when you are able to speak again" She gave a small sigh, but this fact didn't stop her from talking of herself or asking questions.
"I am unsure how you got here but I came over from a small village to the south of here. It is not very far, though it is rather remote. Which makes me wonder why someone would bring you so far out here and chain you up....well unless they wanted you to never be found or something." She looked off to the side, she felt like she was talking more to herself. But the sound of her voice comforted her in the silence.
"I am going to have to go soon, but I will return tomorow. I'll leave the water and food here in case you manage to figure out the cuffs" she said after noticing that the time had passed a rather good amount since she came in the cave. She didn't need to see the sun to know, just knew on the feeling of hunger in her stomach from skipping lunch and nearing dinner. It was never good to be out this far in the forest at night, that is why she would need to head a bit before sunset. -
Heh... This kid doesn't seem too bad...
Managing to gather all his thoughts and words together, he looked up at her weakly "Li... Lily..." It sounded forced however, as if desperate to get his words out.
I wonder how long I can play with this kid's mind before she breaks? I might have to try it at some point, could be fun... Although it would sadden me quite a bit to see such a nice specimen go to waste... Especially if they found me again... He suddenly found that he was overwhelmed by anger, so continued pulling at his chains again with more force than ever, although still failing to break them.
These damned chains... Have to go! I've already been here nearly a thousand years...! I shall not be held back anymore! Holy magic or not... I will find a way to escape this prison!
He managed to pull himself together, before muttering out another forced word "Ze... ro..." -
Lily had a look of surprise when she heard him speak her name, she couldn't help but feel happy from this. His voice, other then the obvious roughness and scratchiness one who hadn't spoke for awhile would have, it was rather pleasant.Well, at least different then she had suspected.
Actually, the more she examined him, she had to admit he wasn't bad looking even under the lack of getting clean for a long while. Far better looking then anyone she had ever seen in her village at least, she wondered where he was born to get such traits.
She broke from her thoughts when she saw him suddenly pull at the chain's in anger. Perhaps he is frustrated with his situation? Well it made sense for one to cut of which binded them. She rather admired he still had the will to break free, considering most chained up for a long time would probably grow crazy or just want to die or just give up thinking its futile.
She leaned in closer when he spoke up his name, not at all shook up or bothered by the previous outburst of pulling at the chain. Zero huh....nice name. She couldn't help her curiosity of him, she wanted to know more about him. At this point she had no care for what he did in the past, she really just wanted to know things.
Lily smiled at him before she gathered her things and stood. " Zero, thank you for telling me even though it must be so hard to use your voice!" she said rather cheerfully, as if she were just given a prized treasure. Really though, she was happy to just know something about him, even if it is just as small as his name.
"I must get going now though, I'll be sure to bring some more things tomorow to make your stay here more comfortable till you can break free." she told him in a honest tone. It may have been a bit selfish but, she hoped that at least for a few days he would remain here so she could chat with him, even if he was chained. Although, he would probably be happier free so she would try ad search for a way without giving away to the village of her discovery, since they would try and keep her from visiting and assume him criminal. -
He simply nodded, and for the first time in hundreds of years, a small smile slowly formed on his mouth, although it was slightly crooked as if he forgot how to smile properly and managed to force himself to speak again. "Th... ank... y... ou..."
Lily... What is it about this kid that interests me so... Is it her kindness? Her willingness to look past the demon on the outside? Heck, she didn't even flinch when I angrily tore at my chains... Something about her seems off, in a strange, twisted good way... It's such an odd feeling, to finally have a guest who hasn't ran ten seconds after seeing my face...
Closing his eyes, he decided to tear at his chains again although he knew nothing would change. He gave a low sigh as he went back to sitting down cross-legged as sitting on his knees like a begger usually killed him after a couple of hours. He just kept tearing at the chains, gritting his teeth in pain as the cuffs cut into his flesh, leaving his already bloodied and scarred wrists and ankles even more scarred than they already were. -
Is it alright if I do a time skip to the next day?
-
(Sure, no need to ask)
-
Okay~
Not too long after sunrise the next day she showed up once again into the cave, left, then cam back again. She had a few trips due to all the things she had brought. Most were home made things from nature while others were from he home extras. A bag full of things while she had two buckets of warmed water, food, water and medical things for any wounds. It was not that she was rich, she was just rather talented at creating things.
She was rather out of breath from carrying all these things in here, especially doing it all without anyone from her village noticing her odd actions. Thank goodness it was spring and she was able to grab food from the forest so she wouldn't have to explain why she was grabbing so much food from the store house.
"Sorry that I took so long, Teri was on my tail for awhile since he was wondering why I came come so late yesterday. I had to lose him awhile back, honestly he is such a worry wort" which explained why she had broken a sweat, running throughout the forest in random directions in till she tired him out so much he gave up.
"Anyway, as you can see I brought a lot of things with me today. Gotta at least get what we can so that when you get out of this cold dang cave your body is healthy" She said with a bright smile as she began spreading things out, jeez this stone light was sure handy. She would hate having to use one hand the whole time to hold a torch. "Now first will give you something to eat and drink, then will get to cleaning those scrapes, scabs, brushes etc." she said in a cheerful tone while grabbing a straw basket full of different fruits and even some cooked meat which she got as a gift from the butcher the other day for helping with something the other day. -
He tilted his head slightly, watching her with heightened interest, unlike last time he was actually awake this time around when she entered, almost as if waiting for her.
She's back... What is this child? How is she not afraid of me...? How is she able to look at me and smile like that without being creeped out once... What if it's not her... But me? Am I losing what once made me who I was... He shook his head slowly No... I doubt that...
He went back to watching her with interest, then noticed the medical supplies before thinking back to his wounds, by some sheer luck his wounds hadn't become infected the entire time, although his wrists, ankles and shoulder blades look mangled beyond repair. It was nothing a bit of dark magic healing would fix, if he could actually use it...
Plucking up the courage, he managed to force out the word he had been wanting to say since he first met her yesterday- "W... hy...?" -
Lily took a seat beside him, a bit more relaxed then yesterday as she place the food and water beside herself. As she picked up the jug she looked over at him as soon as she caught the sound of his voice uttering the first letter. Tilting her head a bit to the side as she looked at him and listened. She guessed it was odd she was helping him out like this, perhaps her curiosity was just that strong. Then again no matter what the case, not a lot of people in the kingdom were very kind when it came to helping each other, especially if they were strangers.
"Well...simply because I am curious about you. Along with a bit of distaste of seeing someone locked up like this without food nor water." she told him honestly while twirling a piece of her hair on her finger. Quiet a moment before bringing the jug over like she had yesterday, before going over to the food afterwords. Except this time she talked as she picked up a small piece of bread.
" I put some herbs into the water and boiled it a bit, that is why it is a bit warm and may taste a bit sweet." She had a lot of herbs collected in her room, liking to make practice of making simple tea's and medicines for wounds and such. Ever since men came back from the war when she was younger, she had wanted to be able to help them some how, she she took up many things. Which she was glad she did, especially since she knew some good combinations to enhance the immune system, sooth pain, calm and help healing process. -
He nods simply, once again taking the food and water without question, only partially satisfied with her answer as to why she was helping him.
Has the kingdom really became that secretive that no one cares for the safety and welfare of others...? Yes...! This is what I need! Eventually that fear becomes hatred, which leads to war, in turn causing hundreds of lives to be lost and the netherworld army to increases even more. One day... One day, the netherworld army will be as strong as it used to be, if not better! Now I'd just need to find the four horsemen and the immortal bird, and then... This entire world will be mine! Yet... I can not shake the feeling that something seems off...
He had gone back to watching her with interest, before attempting another pull at his chains, to which again was no avail. He let out a low, guttural sound as he continued pulling at the chains, closing his eyes once again. No matter how hard he tried, the chains didn't even weaken... Curse the one who sealed him away... Curse the hero who defeated the netherworld forces... And curse the blasted race that is humanity for having so much faith and trust in their 'God' who was as evil as lucifer himself, if not more...
He licked his lips, and found that they had started bleeding again from how dry they were, this was no longer an uncommon occurrence. He opened his green eyes and looked at Lily before managing to get a low, weak "Wa... ter..." -
"Water?" Lily was quick to give him the water when he asked for it, though was as careful and made sure it didn't spill all over him. This time she helped him drink till he seemed satisfied and took away the jug. She placed it back beside her and grabbed an apple, taking a bite as she gave a small look around the cave.
She had skipped breakfast this morning, and she wasn't in much of a hurry since she planned on staying the whole day helping him out. Surprisingly she was not bored by her plans, more glad to have his company. She usually was dancing around exploring the forest anyway, so she had no worry for anyone looking for her unless she was not back before dark.
She wondered if anyone noticed her difference of behavior then normal when she had returned to the village the other day, considering she had been quiet most the time lost in thought. When she was usually chatting with the villagers and practicing things that interested her. She would hate to ever be chained up like he was now, she was to curious and loved to explore to stay in one place unable to do anything for to long.
She took the last bite of her apple, eating even the core, before grabbing one of the buckets of warm water which much like the tea had been mixed with things to help clean and heal. She grabbed a clean rag as well, which she had recently got from an old worn out dress no one in her village fit. "Now, if its alright with you, lets get you cleaned up" she planned on doing his face, arms and legs and chest mostly.
Then she would get to bandaging him up, she wished though she could get under those stupid hunks of chain. His wrists must be so raw and bruised from them, it bothered her she couldn't treat them. Maybe the black smith would know about how chains were made, the weak points and such. -
He nodded in reply when she spoke, adjusting his body so she could get to him easier. What was left of his clothes was tattered, scraps of leather covering his body. However, he was grateful she couldn't the straps of leather melted and sown onto his shoulder blades so that he couldn't get his wings out at all.
First I let her give my water, and now this?! Gah! I can't stand this feeling of helplessness... This, never ending... weakness...He closed his eyes again, his thoughts drifting elsewhere as he thought back to what happened in the past.
This helplessness... is this what my sister felt...? Is this how she felt before she was gone, knowing that nothing she could do would change the outcome? And yet, the helplessness makes me feel stronger, and yet I can't place why...
After feeling that his throat was feeling more agreeable with the rest of the body, he gave another attempt at speech, being able to say an entire sentence this time around "Y... ou... know... yo... u... don't... have... to... do... thi... s..." -
Once Lily got the 'okay' she dipped the rag into the bucket, rung it, then leaned over to get to cleaning him up. She started with his face, going as gentle as she could while trying to scrub the dirt off. She then moved onto his arms. She would probably be more nervous if it weren't for being used to this. Plus, she had a habit of emptying her mind other then the task at hand when it came to helping out someone.
" I don't need to, but I want to. I simply like to do what I want. Plus, it always feels good to be able to help someone out, perhaps that is why kind people exist in the world" sure many seemed cruel especially during war time, but their were the odd ones now and then who would do something kind.
She was soon finished, the buckets of water turned a darker color. She guessed he had been here awhile, so it made sense to be so bad. She did her best with how he was chained up, but he would still need a really good cleaning once he got free. But he did look much better then before, in terms of cleanness, though it did bring out the wounds more.
She dropped the rag in the bucket before grabbing her medical stuff. Moving in to put some cream on that would clean and keep the wounds from getting infected before wrapping them up in bandages, taking her time while giving light chatter now and then. Like how the weather was that day and how she was excited for the upcoming festival.
" Have you ever been to a festival before? They are rather fun. Everyone gathers and we can get all dressed up and eat a big meal together and dance. I really like to dance, my older sister taught me a lot before she moved over to the next village after she got married the village chefs son over there." she was rather joyful, talking with a smile as she thought about the festival. She loved helping the children make flower crowns the day before especially.
When she finished, she couldn't help but giggle. She guessed she went a bit over board with the bandages. "S-Sorry.. for laughing but, I think I just replaced most your clothing's with bandages" It reminded her of Teri when he was her practice model when she was learning how to do it. She got in trouble afterwords for wasting so many bandages on one arm, which made it look like a cocoon, but it was worth it back then. -
He occasionally winced as she put a couple of the bandages on the older wounds, which were much more purple and black in colour than the more recent bruises that were a light shade of blue.
A festival? Replacing my clothing with bandages? What was this girl on about? Honestly I'll never understand Mortals at time, seriously... Starting wars over the silliest things and then pinning the blame on each other, dressing up in odd costumes to appease a fake deity...
He tilted his head slightly, curious about what she was speaking about before forcing out another word- "Fes... tival?" It sounded so familiar, yet so distant at the same time... And who was this 'Teri' she kept going on about?
This girl... I need to talk to her more...! If my voice would allow it! Gah! It's bad enough being dehydrated for years, but still... I wish there was a simpler way of communication, but I'm just so weak and tired... -
She moved to sit more comfortable, putting a few things away so she wouldn't lose them. "I'm guessing that mean's you have never been to one? That is rather sad....I wish I could take you to the one my village is holding soon" She said with a small sigh as she rested her head in her hands, she felt it would be rather fun to show him the fun of a festival.
Festivals had started after the first big war, though not a lot of text or information on it existed these days, after their was a big welcome back party held for the ruler of the country and the hero's after some big war they had one. Its actually held in tradition for everyone to have one on that annual day.
"Well its something every village and city in the kingdom holds, a celebration for some important day. Its rather joyful and rather a beautiful day. You can tell what day is the festival by looking up at the sky, since the moon changes color." she was still at a rather shock he didn't even know about them. But if she knew how long he had been here, it would make sense. Considering the winning the war against the demons is what the festival steamed from. Not that anyone but the king knew of this.
" Hmm...well if I'm unable to bring you, perhaps I could bring the festival to you?" she pressed her lips together in though before smiling. "I could bring my flute and some decorations, as well as some delicious food and make a fire" she was rather excited by her idea. " Maybe I can show you the traditional dance as well" -
ugh... Please don't tell me it's that festival... If it is, then so help me, as soon as i get out of these chains...! I'm gonna tear the nearest human apart, whether it's Lily or not!
Zero shook his head slowly, like always forcing out his words "N... ah... it's... ok... ay..." He closed his eyes again, sitting down with his legs crossed. He knew what tomorrow was, he just refused to celebrate it. He lost a lot of good friends and family in one of the major battles of that war. And he nearly lost his life too during it.
Why do I feel bad about hurting her feelings? I don't even...?! What is this?! I can't comprehend or even begin to understand it... Is this feeling regret? Although I need to know something... Let's see if I can get it out of her...!
"the... An... gels..." He managed to croak out, looking at her with a interested glint in his eyes "do th... ey... still... Li... ve...?" -
Lily noticed the festival seemed like something he disliked, perhaps it brought bad memories? Even so, she couldn't help but feel sad. She tried not to show it to much though as she moved to lay on her back. staring up at the cave's ceiling. It reminded her of stars in the night sky, but not as open.
"Well....I guess the festival is over rated anyway. Perhaps a birthday party instead? Though I guess it would be odd to do it when no birth day is to be found...then again, its someones birthday everyday." She chattered on, going back to smiling. She rather enjoyed positive things.
"Angel's?" She sat buck up, propping her self up on her elbows to look at him. "Are you talking about the ones from the children stor- er legends of how they granted the kingdom power then left when the threat from the demons was gone. Though they say some still wander the lands, the descendants at least. Ones that come from the blood line of the angel that fell in love with a human and what not" she remembered lots of stories of angels and demons from tales she was read when she was younger. Though they were more officially legends. It was an interesting topic, although she had no idea why someone not a child would be interested in them. Maybe he was locked up here for being crazy? Or maybe he met someone that seemed like a angel, who know. "Why do you ask?" -
As soon as she mentioned the fact that angels still roamed the earth, that was the final straw. He lets out a low growl, forcing himself to stand "I... I have to...!" He winced suddenly, collapsing back down to his knees. He turned his head slowly looking at the chains before starting pull more aggressively than before.
Come on Z, pull yourself together! There's no way you're getting out of here anytime soon... just quieten down for now, my chance shall soon come...
And almost as immediately as the rage came, it left just like that. He closed his eyes again, although he continued pulling at his chains, hoping against hope that he could somehow break them.
"The... angels..." His voice seemed partially clearer at this point, still forced, but not as much as before "it's all... a massi... ve lie..."
