  • arcane knew he could not harbor his old title for much longer, he couldn't focus in two things at once. sit would make him more stressed than he already was. but he couldn't just upright abandon the position, so he needed to train some nurses, and turn them into doctors, fast.

    it wasn't that simple, though.

the medicine den had long been abandoned, though he did tend to frequent there when he was looking for a little peace of mind. the nostalgic scent of the myriad of herbs still excited him, though he knew it was for the better that he did not dwell on this notion.

and that was why he needed more nurses, he didn't have a replacement right now to depend on, but he should get one soon. as soon as possible.

so as he stepped into the den, feeling a cold, stale rush of air from a lack of inhabitance. a breath escaped his elongated maw, it brought back painful and, at the same time, happy memories.

turning back around, his eyes glittered as he caught upon the moving bodies of his clanmates, the diversity of his fellowship was quite outstanding. he was quite plain compared to them.

"riverclan!" he shouted, his voice had become stronger since he had become a leader due to the meetings and other things he had to organize.

"i am holding a training session to scope out new nurses - all who are interested please come into my den."

and then he retreated into the depths of the expansive den, sapphire eyes waiting for one who would approach.

  • Beautifulspirit had almost no prior medical knowledge. They had never needed it before at any point in their life. As a loner, they had never been severely injured. As, well, themself, they had never been close enough to anyone to worry about needing to treat any injuries that anyone might acquire. They'd never had much of an interest in learning any of this before, either. They didn't need to know it. They had so many other things going on in their life. They didn't want to take the time.

However, after what had happened in Shadowclan with Finch's morning sickness, they felt like maybe if they were going to be in a clan - or two, for that matter - they should start trying to learn things like this. After all, clans had battles. People got injured. What if Sollux or one of the other people they knew got hurt? They'd have to be able to do something to help them.

So Beautifulspirit was quick to make their way over to the scene, curiousity shining bright in their eight black eyes. They weren't completely sure what being a 'nurse' meant in Riverclan, but if it was the same as the definition they knew, then even if they didn't actually end up becoming one, it would be useful to sit in on this.

  • Mira had never been the stellar healer, that is unless you counted their knowledge of wound care that came from more than a few rough disputes in her childhood, then she was the goddamn expert. Aheh, weird how shit always worked out like that. Oh well. Slipping up to the scene quietly she gave a small dip of her head in greeting to Arcanepaw before she settled down beside Beautifuispirit, that of whom she'd sworn she's seen before. Perhaps in another place, another time.

  • "Will you be looking at taking on any mature aged nurses?" The question came from the black and white cat as she approached. Her amber eyes were looking out at the male who held the rank of both doctor and co-leader, her brow raised in a questioning manner. She understood what the rank of nurse meant, if only because she knew that Arcanepaw was both a doctor and a leader. It only made sense really that the rank of nurse described one who trained and worked under the doctor. Despite having little prior knowledge of herbs and healing, Sharon was an aspiring mother and quite liked the idea of becoming a nurse and, maybe, one day a doctor herself.

Her gaze left Arcanepaw to flick over the others present for a moment. She was one of the newest members to the clan and didn't recognise either of the two girls. One was a strange hybrid, a mix of many creatures that Sharon knew she'd never met because she would surely remember it. The other was a young-looking lioness with white fur and rather startling deep red eyes. "I don't believe we've met before - I'm Sharon. It's a pleasure to meet you both." The feline spoke the words with a smile as she opted to sit by the side of the strange looking creature, feeling rather small in comparison to the two.

Now her gaze turned back to Arcanepaw.
"If you are looking at taking on mature aged nurses and not just younger kids, then I'm interested in the position."

  • "Am I allowed to take part or no?" Eli would ask as he trotted over, a bored expression on his face. He wasn't too sure anymore if he could still call himself a nurse of Riverclan. True, he had been gone for two weeks- quite a long amount of time, but there had been an inactivity notice up. Oh well, he supposed he deserved it if he didn't have the position anymore. It wasn't like anyone had actually trusted his skills anyways. He had always just been looked over in the position.

  • "Well, technically a nurse can be of any age. Although a child's mind is sometimes easier to teach." But that was his own opinion really. He didn't know how this gang function and if they kept time schedules, or did drills. He was a bit at a loss really so he went where the crowds gathered so to speak. The soldier moved forward with stiff strides and his ears pulled forward just a bit. He didn't know what their terms for nurses were but where he came from they were healers. So maybe hey were the same here. He stepped into the den with a light step though he remained standing as opposed to actually sitting down. He watched the wild looking dog for a moment before he gave a half sigh and slowly sank to his haunches. This place was strange. "I'll participate."

  • Yeah, there was no way in hell Calypso was going to be a nurse. Not for lack of knowledge though. She knew her way around herbs, she just had no interest in being a fucking healer. Besides, the herbs she knew the most about made people worse, not better. Still, that didn't mean she was going to pass up the chance to learn some shit from this training session.

"Hey, I'll participate in this damn thing too." The caracal called out with a grin. Even if she didn't learn anything from this, she could probably show up at least one of the assholes actually hoping to be a nurse. Which would be fucking hilarious.

  • Swift as a River — Velvet Konstantinov — RiverClan Apprentice — she/her
Yes, she was young for her age, 6 months old to be exact. Even that was true, she has experienced many dark things in the last few days and she was sick and tired of not being able to do anything. She witnessed many deaths, knowing even more that there was going to be even more in the unknowing future. That's why she wanted to learn about medicine and see what she was capable of.
Seeing some members come in means that getting into the nurse or doctors position wouldn't be easy to achieve. She had her own reasons, but Velvet was just done sitting on the sidelines unable to do anything to help save others. She wanted this more than anything, even if it meant she will gain some medical knowledge in doing so. This is what she wanted and needed to do for herself. The snow leopard gave a nod of her head to Arcane, taking a spot that was open and sits down waiting to see if anyone else was going to join in.

  • Did she want to be a nurse? Nurses, doctors, leaders, and so forth all seemed like prestigious positions in RiverClan. Perhaps if she worked hard, she could join their ranks. Nevertheless, Veronica remained skeptical. Approaching quietly on small paws, the young Cavalier spaniel took a seat among the others.

  • TAGS ✦ ✧ ✦ — Being a nurse didn't sound that bad. In fact, it actually sounded great. She definitely wasn't a fighter, so this would be a great way to help her own clan. Although, considering that Ama wasn't one to constantly be social with everyone, nor had she even been here for long. Not to mention that she didn't have a lot of medical training. So going here could be a good place to at least get to know a bit about healing. She trotted over to where everyone else was gathering, not yet speaking up.

  • Over her moons of travels, Kakima had never considered being a nurse, or anything along the lines of healing. She felt that it was a rank that was just too important for her to hold. She viewed herself as she was: childish and immature.

She heard something about childish minds and being easier to teach, and her tail started to wag. She had a child's mind!

Kakima flashed a bright smile at Desmond to thank him for his comment. With more confidence than before, the wilddog approached the den. "I'll give it a shot!" she barked cheerfully.

  • there was certainly a large amount of participants, and he was eternally grateful, it was unlike just a month ago where only around three people did come. he smiled softly, watching the potential nurses file in.

turning to elixir, he shrugged. "you're already a nurse, so you can just learn along."

"alright, first question to all: what does horsetail do?"

  • Horsetail? Well, if this was about medicine, Arcanepaw probably wasn't referring to an actual horse's tail. Veronica frowned, her short stubby tail twitching in displeasure. Because she had never been taught medicine, there was absolutely no chance that she could correctly answer the male's question without taking a lucky guess. Perhaps she could bluff. "Can you show us what it looks like first?" Not all animals knew the same plants by the same name.

  • The caracal snickered as Veronica asked to be shown the herb.It was so damn obvious that the other girl was bluffing, she had no idea what horsetail was and seeing it wouldn't help her. "That won't be nessisary." Calypso interjected with a smirk. "Horsetail is used to treat infections and stop bleeding." Boom, one fucking point for her. She was already ahead of all these other assholes.

  • Kakima shook her head. "Can't say I do," she barked. When Calypso replied, Kakima wasn't sure what to think of it. Was she purposely being rude, or was that just how she was? Either way, it rubbed Kakima the wrong way.

  • TAGS ✦ ✧ ✦ — Wait, were they supposed to know the herbs to do this? There went Ama's chances of being a nurse. Then again this was a training session, and she was supposed to learn something. Her ears twitched slightly when Calypso spoke. She didn't pay any mind that she seemed to be carrying a smug air around her - or at least those were the vibes she got. Personally she wasn't bothered too much. If she knew what she knew, then great. But it did suck to see someone was already a step ahead of her.

"Uh, no- I don't know," she replied. She might as well be honest this time. Her ears were still perked up, just to hear everybody else's answers - if she didn't know anything, she might as well learn. At least that was something she was good at.

  • "Calypso, this is for learning- there's no reason to be so rude" Eli would snort before turning towards Veronica. Summoning a frond of horsetail, the unicorn would levitate it in front of the other. "This is horsetail" the male would inform, referring to the green frond with needle-like (however untrue) leaves sticking out. The base was segmented, and sort of looked like bamboo, although clearly it wasn't.

  • "Someone has a big ass ego. This session is for learning not for show boating." He spoke with a half mocking tone. Who cared if she knew what horsetail was. They were all here to learn and if she knew things already then she needed to keep her mouth shut so that someone else could have a chance at learning something for themselves. It was a training session after all. A low almost amused sound left his throat as he looked to the horsetail that Elixir had pulled forth and he studied it to lock it in his memory. Treat infection and stop bleeding. Was that true? He glanced at Arcanepaw before he decided to ask the doctor/leader himself. "Are there any more uses to horsetail besides the possible two that were already given?"

  • Swift as a River — Velvet Konstantinov — RiverClan Apprentice — she/her
"Horsetail is a tall plant with bristly stems that normally grows in marshy areas." Velvet explained the description of the plant by mere memory. "As for the medicial properties, the leaves can be used to treat infected wounds. It's also good to treat bladder and kidney ailments. That's about it for what I know about it." She honesty didn't want to sound like a smarty pants and go in full drive of what she already knows about some of the herbs that might be used for medicine.

  • Oh shit, the first herb was for injuries what do you know. Maybe she wouldn't look like a total dumb ass this time. After all seeing to battle injuries was the full extent of the lioness's knowledge to be completely honest. Crouching down to Veronica's level before she answered however the huntress offered the little dog a approachable smile, "Maybe I can help, it uh sorta looks like this," unsheathing a claw she traced a rough albeit reliable sketch of a bristly looking plant into the ground before the cavalier. Lifting her ruby eyes to Arcanepaw then she shot him a wink, "It's good for staving off infection and bleeding. Better as a poultice though, or combined with other herbs into a paste." Of course he'd know that but she had to prove she knew her shit right?
