Santiago Castillo, drummer of Disco Confetti, was heading backstage from another show on their tour. They were doing a meet and greet and by that he meant that it was a meet and greet for their band's lead singer Julio De la Vega and also the lead guitarist Veroníca Serrano. He loved his fellow bandmates, but he still felt sad that no one went to meet him unless they were just trying to get every autograph of each bandmate. He looked at the crowd of fans and wondered if it would be the same as all the other times before

Nora had always loved music concerts, she had always loved music. It was her saviour, her light in the dark and her perspective on the world. But what had her spell bound in many songs was not just its lyrics. But the rhythm. That drum beat that possessed her body, making her toes tap and her hips sway. Her arms in zero gravity above her head as she felt it rivet through her veins. But this time, the concert was different and it was her favourite band. Even better people could sign autographs. Despite her shy nature, Nora knew she would never forgive herself if she missed this opportunity. Sticking to the crowd, hoping to move with others to the young man she had set her sights on. But alas everyone bickered over the lead volcalist's attention. Taking a deep breath as she clutched the cd album close to her chest. Stepping forward with a shy smile as she came to a stop in front of the talented musician. "Hi, I hope I'm not bothering you. It would mean the world to me if you could sign this though, please" lightly biting down on her bottom lip as her gaze shied away from the drummer's. "Your rhythm and timing and the way you carry the beat.. is just amazing. You're so much fun to watch too, your hands are practically a blur" blushing slightly, feeling awkward and like she was gushing as she mumbled an apology and slid the cd case over toward him. She was probably bugging the man.
-
Santiago was looking bored as no one walked by to go meet him. He looked over at the mob surrounding their lead singer and rolled his eyes. He had signed a few things, but he could tell they didn't really care about who he was. Suddenly he was surprised when a cd was placed in front of him. He looked up at the girl close to his age asking for his autograph who was excited about meeting him. He was surprising, but he gave her a smile. "I'd love to sign it. You know you're the first that's gone directly to me. As you can see most people like Julio over there" he said motioning to the crowd. He uncapped his sharpie and opened up the cd and went over to the little paper book. "So what's your name?"
-
Nora followed his gaze to the lead singer, smiling softly. "Well I guess you're all mine then. I don't understand how no one would want to speak to you and get your auto graph" offering him a sheepish smile. Was that too forward? "Oh right, my name is Nora" gazing down to watch his pen. It seemed his words were true, still no one approached, in fact one had obviously been intending to get all the band signatures, but couldn't even be bothered waiting for the drummer to finish his signature to Nora. However the auburn haired girl soon smiled as her cd was returned to her now signed. "Wow, thank you so much! You're so sweet" honestly she wanted to ask him one hundred questions, but she held her tongue.
-
"Well I'm in the background, no one really thinks of the drummer all that much" he explained before starting his message. He smiled hearing her name and finished up his message before handing it back to her. Nora, glad to meet another appriciater of the rhythm. I bet you'll be going places-Santiago Castillo it read. He went to sign the other girl's poster this time just his name. He looked back at Nora as people were clearing away. "So what brings you out here to see Disco Confetti?" he asked
-
"Without the tether of a beat. A song is just a train steak, how could anyone forget the drummer. They carry the song and are the foundation" Nora protested. Stepping to the side slightly so a poster could be signed. Truly it seemed people took little notice. She ould not imagine how it would make the man feel. "You, actually. Your sound is so unique and it just resounds so well in me" she admitted with a shy blush. Scratching the back of her neck awkwardly "ah I'm a dork, sorry!" She laughed. "Where or how did you learn to play like you did? What's your inspiration?" It was so hard to keep all her questions at bay. So interested in the man for the music artist he was and not the band he was in it seemed.
-
Santiago chuckled at her comment about her being a dork. "Trust me Nora, you're not a dork. You're just passionate about the music. I can get behind that" he reassured as a few more came over to get his autograph as a part of getting every band member. He was surprised she asked about his inspiration. "There's two. One is watching drummers while I was growing up and my father who was a part of his own band, 4 Roses. He helped me figure out who to keep a beat. What about you? You have any musical abilities?" he asked
-
"That sounds amazing, I think I've heard of 4 roses actually. I play guitar and sing" she explained "but I'm not getting far with it" she laughed with a shake of her head. "Ah, I could talk to you for hours. But it seems signing and the meet and greet are almost over" she smiled regretfully. "It was amazing to meet you, Santiago"
-
"You've heard of 4 Roses? You're the first that I've heard of. They were big back in the 80s, but now they're a kind of thing of the past. They just grew apart" he explained. He looked around to see the group diminishing in size and people cleaning up. He was sad that he would have to say goodbye to her. He liked talking to her. Then he got an idea. "You know we could talk more and you could work on your singing skills. Record label's got a contest to find the next big thing. I think you could be that. You want to try it?" he asked
-
"Yeah, I found this little music store that sold the old stuff. They had a few of their albums and one of their songs playing. Unfortunately not lng after the shop went under, unable to compete. But it was a nice little place to go while it was around" listening to him and feeling like she was in a dream, a famous and incredibly talented musician was interested in helping her? She couldn't understand it. "You haven't even heard my voice yet" Nora laughed "but I would love that, thank you. I get pretty bad stage fright though" she smiled. Taking a note pad that sat beside him and writing down her number. "Here you go, I would love to talk more. I understand you'll be pretty busy though"
-
Santiago smiled listening to her. He was starting to really like this girl. He took her number and kept it in his pocket. "I bet you sound amazing and here's how I deal with stage fright. Just focus on one person you know in the audience or someone you'd wish was in the audience and sing to them. That's what I do. I'll text you so you know when the show is. I can sign you up for it. I just need your last name" he said
-
"Nora Rose. Short and simple, I know" she laughed. "Thank you for signing up, maybe after your show tomorrow I could steal you away for a coffee." Perhaps he only wanted to do business with her. But she didn't want to just use him to gain in her own career. She wanted the company of Santiago. She genuinely enjoyed speaking to him. "Your advice is amazing, I'll definitely give it a shot" she giggled. Noticing everything wrapping up "alright, I better let you go. Bet you're exhausted. It was wonderful to meet you" she smiled, slowly walking away. Not wanting to go but she knew fans were being sent away now.
-
Santiago nodded and listened as she spoke. "Nora Rose? That's a beautiful name and it suits you well. Also....Coffee with you? I would love that, it would get me more time to get to know you. Also you know once I sign up for you, the label will call you and tell you what day they want to hear from you. I can give you some help and tips if you'd like. I know what they would be looking for. So once the show is over tomorrow meet me around here and we'll go out explore this little town of yours" he said
-
her face lit up at his words, he had her wrapped around his finger. And not for his name, nor his status. Perhaps a little for his musical talent. But really, it was him. The real him that had this young woman hanging on for more. Nora made her way out, still hugging her CD close as she turned back to look at the stage one last time. Their coffee date could not come soon enough. Though she was anxious to perform for him. "Where should I take him tomorrow?" She whispered. It of course only just hitting her as she blushed brightly. She was going out on virtually a date with Santiago from Disco Confetti! Practically wanting to swoon as she all but skipped her way home, singing into the night air.
-
Santiago smiled and headed back to the tour bus. There he met up with his fellow bandmates who looked up at him with a grin. "Looks like someone finally got a fan" Veronica, the lead guitarist, teased.
"Yeah, it's nice to see our little drummer rising up in the world" Julio added.
Santiago rolled his eyes and moved towards his bunk bed. Tomorrow can't come fast enough he thought smiling
-
Nora blinked, it was raining, a drizzly and cold day. But it would not snuff out her excitement as she held her phone close. Pulling her scarf tighter around her neck and her hood further over her head, huddled under her umbrella as she headed toward the coffee shop she had given directions to Santiago for him to meet her at once he had contacted her. It had been amazing to hear his voice again. Still smiling to herself as she reached the place, closing her umbrella and sitting down at a booth. It was a cute, cosy and small coffee shop. A locally owned one, but Nora loved the place.
-
Santiago was walking down the street leaving the backstage area with a hoodie covering his head from the rain coming down. He looked around the small town remembering her directions and neared the small coffee shop. He entered the shop and caused a few people to look in his direction. Some even recognized him. He went up behind Nora and covered her eyes. "Guess who?"
-
She felt cold and damp hands placed over her eyes squeaking slightly "youre wet!" Nora laughed "hmm. Would it be the most amazing drummer in the world perhaps?" Turning around to look up at him. Feeling slightly guilty for making him come out in the bad weather.
"Here, sit. Let's get you a warm drink" she smiled softly. "How are you? Did the show go well?" Her concern for him clear. It seemed already he wanted to be his support, to hear about his day and accomplishments.
-
"Maaayyybbe" he teased pulling his hands away from her face and looking over at her with a smile. He didn't mind that he was wet, he wanted to spend time with her. "Though I wouldn't call myself the most amazing drummer in the world. I'm a good drummer" he argued. He sat down next to her and gave her a smile. He placed a hand over hers. "The show went fine. Julio stage dived into the audience" he explained. Julio was always doing stuff like that during Disco Confetti's shows at least once. "So do they have to drink around here?" he asked
-
Nora Placed the menu between the two of them, absently lacing her fingers between his to try and keep his hand warm. Giving it a gently squeeze "why am I not surprised" she giggled. "By the way, you are the worlds most amazing drummer to me" she teased.
"Alright, it looks like they have tea, coffee, hot chocolate, so the usual hot drinks as well as your spirits and beers, juices, soft drinks, wine. Anything really. But I think I would like a tea" she smiled. People of course were staring at the two, not that he was as popular as some of his band mates. But still, he was a member of the famous group. "You might get some autographs and attention now" Nora observed softly with a small smile. He wanted recognition, now perhaps he would have it. Alas, on their date. But she would put that aside.
