    Current Season: New-leaf

    Weather: Mostly sunny
    Current RP Events: Shellkit's death

Goosefeather sat staring up at the sky, not even able to feel her legs as she ran through the camp in a vain attempt to try to catch the hawk that had just scooped up her kit. The bird was already above the trees, let alone high enough for the white she-cat to actually do something, but if she caring cat didn't do anything to save her only kit she would never be able to forgive herself. "No... No please!" The young she-cat wailed, watching as her beloved child disappeared behind the trees.

Thornstar looked down from the place where his daughter had disappeared, and instead turned his focus to his mate. In such a time of despair, not only did he need to be there for his clan, he needed to be with Goosefeather above all. They had just lost a kit. No one or nothing could ever replace the lost the two of them had just endured.

  • Bluesong
Bluesong's eyes widened, unbelieving at how fast the bird had snatched up the small kit. "Goosefeather..." She knew the odds that catching the bird, let alone seeing the young kit alive again, were slim to none. She comfortingly trailed her tail along the grieving mother's back. She knew the horrors and grief of losing a kit. "I'm so sorry."

    Moonpaw @Completely Mad @Moonraven
The young tom's throat contracted as he watched Goosefeather break down in sorrow. He could only imagine the pain she was going through at the moment. He padded over to his brothers, sitting down beside them.

    Firewillow
Firewillow stood speechless. How could that have happened? Right in the middle of camp no less? She padded over to Thornstar. "I'm so sorry for your loss."

  • CrowSong could feel himself beginning to shake as he sat, and watched ShellKit be snatched up so easily then taken away.. It had all went rather quickly.. CrowSong attempted to jump up and stop the hawk, but it was too late.. Swallowing he listened to the wails of GooseFeather his body aching to pad over and comfort the grieving queen, but he restrained himself when he glanced towards ThornStar.. A sudden feeling of envy stung his heart as he watched the large tabby tom.. He had such a beautiful mate.. Kind and loving..

Taking a breath shook out his fur and glanced away from his leader. Him and his mate had lost the most important thing to them.. his painful envy was nothing compared to their loss. Closing his eyes and flattening his ears e grumbled then put on a calm face pushing his ears forward as he padded towards ThornStar looking up to the high place where he sat. CrowSong looked to FireWillow dipping his head in agreement before glancing back to ThornStar. "I can gather a patrol in hopes of tracking where the hawk went, and possibly finding it's nest if that can help in any way?" He inquired his yellow eyes flickering.

  • Lunasong

The white furred feline sat off to the side with her ears pressed as tightly against her head they could go. The bi-colored eyes focused on the leader and his mate as grief and a touch of shock rippled through her frame. She couldn't explain the feeling what it was like to lose a kit, she's never experienced such a feeling the closest thing she could come to that was losing her mother, but she knew they were different things. As another warrior, Crowsong, offered to take out a patrol in search of of the kit she slowly rose to dainty paws and made her way through the gathering crowd. She forced her voice to go beyond the soft octave it was normally at in order offer her assistance. "If you don't mind, I would like join the patrol as well." She felt a restless need to do something, anything at all to help. In reality and logically she didn't think they'd get very far in this search, but you never know what could happen.

    Silverpaw

The apprentice was sitting off to the side, watching the older cats with an expression off pure aloofness. The tom was often one of pure stoicism, rarely did he allow anything to phase him. The lost of the kit.... he was still trying to process all of this. Should that Queen of been watching her kit? That's all they had to do right? Watch their little ones and make sure they were properly cared for? So technically this was Goosefeather's fault right? The tom slowly rotated his head as his brother showed up nearby him, adopted brother, but brother all the same. His only living blood kin had dumped him, sibling was dead, and the piece of foxdung that had birthed him had left them. So blood or not, the family he had obtained with the clan was better then nothing.

  • Hickorynose stood, wide-eyed, as he saw the hawk sweep Shellkit up in a mere heartbeat. No... there's no way this is happening... The brown tabby thought, tilting his head upwards to watch the rapidly shrinking silhouette. She's too young to die, she's only a kit!

"I," Hickorynose began, trembling, "I'll join the patrol, too." Glancing at the grieving parents, he opened his mouth to console them, then stopped himself. He'd never felt the pain of losing a kit before, and didn't want to risk causing the couple even more misery.

  • Blackfrost looked on in horror, his fur standing up and his paws glued to the ground. As the kit disappeared behind the trees the tom suddenly felt sick. Such a violent way to go for such a young life, it was honestly such a shame. As the wails of Goosefeather reached the black and white tom's ears, he flinched. He'd heard these anguished yowls many times before in his life. Sometimes in battle, sometimes during the leaf bare when sickness struck. All the same, Blackfrost could never get used to the sound of a grieving clanmate. He shook his narrow head as a patrol began to gather. The tom would normally tag along, but his stomach wasn't feeling the best, thus he sat himself near the edge of camp.

Birchpaw was fluffed up ten times her size. The small feline's eyes were wide with shock and fear. The small apprentice had never heard, or witnessed, something some brutal and scarring. The thought of Shellkit being snatched away made Birchpaw realize that she could've easily been the hawk's next target. As a patrol began to gather, Birchpaw slowly padded off to the apprentice's den. The tabby could hardly fathom what she'd just witnessed and decided trying to sleep off the horrors was the best way to calm down.

Skygaze sat frozen as the camp jumped to life. A patrol was assembling to try and "rescue" the kit, Goosefeather needed to be comforted, some warriors and apprentices had retired to their dens to try and wash the horrible event from their minds. However, within all this chaos one thought rang through Skygaze's mind. Shellkit was dead, no matter what the clan wanted to believe, no cat could survive the talons of a hawk. As the patrol began to gather, the brown pointed she cat made her way through the crowd. Her muscles rippling under her cream pelt, and despite the chaos, Skygaze seemed extremely relaxed. "If I may, I would like to join this patrol, if it is okay with the others." Her blue gaze had an icy glint to it that she often got when feeling extremely focused.

  • --Goosefeather
The quick reactions of her clanmates were almost too much for the young queen. She should thank them, but all she could do was think back on the situation. "I should've been playing with her - at least had her closer to me. She was out in the open of the camp, I should've known..." Goosefeather rambled, more to herself than to any of the cats that were quickly gathering around.
The now childless mother knew she shouldn't blame herself, but looking back at it all she felt as if there were countless ways that this all could've been prevented. She felt so responsible for her little one's death.

    --Thornstar
Though grief struck, the dark tabby nodded his head in response to the cats calling to organize the patrols. "Crowsong, Hickorynose, Skygaze, and Lunasong - may I have a word with you quickly before you leave?" Thornstar said, barley above a whisper. While the tom did his best to keep himself composed at all times for the sake of the clan, he had never struggled so greatly to keep his typically confident voice from cracking.
With a reassuring nuzzle to his mate's neck, Thornstar parted ways from his grieving queen. What he was about to go over with his warriors was something he knew Goosefeather would not be able to take. He wasn't even be sure if he could handle the reality of the situation himself, but for the sake of being realistic he knew he could not send off the patrol in an attempt to rescue his kit, but instead to try and prevent a similar situation from happening to another child.

  • Bluesong @Point-D
Bluesong called to her apprentice, "Birchpaw, we're going as well." She looked toward Thornstar, knowing that this mission was not to bring back Shellkit, but to kill the bird. "Would you like me to lead the patrol?" The deputy asked, giving him a sorrowful look. When Mallowpaw had died, he had only become an apprentice a moon before. She remembered how painful it felt- like her heart was being torn out. She knew this was what the grieving queen was feeling, and promised herself she would kill that wretched bird.

    Moonpaw @Completely Mad @Moonraven
Moonpaw looked at Silverpaw, "I hope they tear that bird to shreds." In truth, he was horrible frightened. Would other kits be taken away over the years? He glanced at Whisperingpaw, "Do you think we should bring her some freshkill?"

    Firewillow @Point-D
Firewillow sat beside the grieving queen. "I'm so sorry, Goosefeather." She knew the she-cat was blaming herself for not looking after her kit. "It's not your fault, kits are supposed to be safe inside the camp. Don't blame yourself." She gave a comforting lick to Goosefeather's ear.

  • CrowSong glanced around as cats had walked over beside him also willing to go on the patrol. Then he gazed back to ThornStar as he asked to speak with them. He nodded his green eyes glinting. He knew it was a long shot, but he wanted to do anything to give GooseFeather... or GooseFeater and ThornStar closure. He waved his tail and shuffled his paws a bit glancing at all the cats again before hearing the deputy. CrowSong turned his head to look at her and dipped his head to the deputy.

  • (Hopefully this is okay, but can I change Lunasong to Lunalight, I just noticed their like three songs in this clan.)

    Lunasong

The feline perked her ears up as she heard the summoning from the leader, her paws brought her closer to the gathered cats although halted when she heard Bluesong's voice about accompanying them. The more the merrier, however, she wasn't exactly sure how grand an idea it was to bring an apprentice with. "Bluesong, are you sure it's the wisest idea to bring along the apprentice?" She questioned while setting her bi-colored eyes on the deputy. "She is rather young and this is a lot to take in, perhaps it might be better to leave her behind?" She meowed as lightly as she could. It wasn't her place to speak against a mentor's decision with their apprentice, but she wasn't the type to leave her concerns unvoiced.

    Silverpaw

The apprentice tipped his head back when Moonpaw spoke up about bring the grieving queen some food. He thought about it for a second, as nice as the gestured seemed he didn't think fresh kill was going to help an aching heart. Yet, not wanting to discourage his brother he gave a light nod of his head. "Sure, we can see if she'd like something." He got to his paws and padded near the fresh kill pile. He was mildly hoping that Skygaze would take him along on this hunt, he could use the experience, but he wasn't going to outright demand he go. If his mentor wanted him to tag along she'd say so.

  • Finally tearing his gaze away from the sky, Hickorynose padded closer towards the others to hear Thornstar's words. The fluffy tom was still unnerved, his long fur standing on end, but tried to remain composed as he settled down and looked to the leader attentively. "If the hawk was hunting here, its nest can't be far," he offered gently, curling his tail around his paws. "We'll be able to find it, and..."
The tabby trailed off mid-sentence and glanced at the ground. He knew the kit was guaranteed to be dead, and uttering the phrase "rescue Shellkit" would do more harm than good.

  • Birchpaw poked her head out of the apprentice den. For once the rather excitable apprentice hoped not to be chosen for a patrol. The bird had terrified the daylight out of the bengal and she wished to stay at camp. However, Birchpaw didn't wish to anger Bluesong thus she began to emerge from the apprentices den. As the apprentice was a about to join her mentor the suggestion by Lunasong reached the she cat's ears. Outwardly Birchpaw tried to act dejected, while inwardly she thanked her ancestors someone was suggesting she stayed at camp.

Skygaze felt a pair of eyes on the back of her neck as she followed Thornstar and the other volunteers. She turned her blue gaze to see Silverpaw glancing at his mentor. The cream she cat guessed that the young tom wanted to accompany the patrol. "It's too dangerous, you'll be staying behind." Before completely padding away the she cat turned. "I have a bad feeling about this. I wouldn't be alright if I lost my apprentice because I didn't follow my instincts. It may just be me being paranoid, but I'd rather have it be that than another cat dying today." As Skygaze finally began to catch up with the rest of the clan she called over her shoulder. "Besides, I have some battle training planned for tomorrow."

Blackfrost watched from the edges of camp as the clan communed with one another. He was rather surprised some cats wanted to bring their apprentices with them. On one paw he saw how it could give them experience, while on the other this mission might be a bit dangerous for the youngsters. Blackfrost sighed and let his shoulders slump. The black and white tom really didn't know what to think anymore. In all of his life he'd never witnessed a cat be carried off by a bird. Of course he'd heard stories but he never imagined something so terrible could happen in his time.

  • @Moonraven @Point-D @gloomoire @CobaltFire
    Bluesong
The she-cat nodded, "I'm not having him go far. I want her and Firewillow to watch from just outside the camp, just in case the bird decides to come back. I would never put my apprentice in danger." She gave a grateful smile to Lunalight. She looked toward Hickorynose, "Hickorynose, Skygaze, and Silverpaw, you come with me to check the north of the territory." She waved her tail toward Blackfrost, "You take Crowsong, Harrierfoot, and Moonpaw with you." She was confident in her sons' abilities, seeing as the two were nearing the end of their training. "Firewillow and Birchpaw will watch just outside of camp. A bird who has preyed somewhere successfully once before might again, you'll warn everyone in camp."

    Moonpaw @sunni-chan
The silvery tom rose to his paws, "Okay," He turned toward his mentor, "There's no way Shellkit's coming back, is there?" He felt his heart plummet to the small of his chest.

    Firewillow @CobaltFire
Firewillow nodded, "Come on, Birchpaw. Let's go keep watch." She knew the bird would most likely not come back, but she also knew Bluesong needed to distract her apprentice from the pain of losing a clanmate so early.

OOC: very low muse, sorry. @CobaltFire lol wasn't going to send a 7 moon old out to catch a bird, Bluesong just wants to distract her from the grief

  • Birchpaw let out a sigh. While she was still shaken up about the whole ordeal it felt much better knowing she wouldn't be on a mission to search out a creature that could easily kill her. Her smaller head was lowered as she padded after Firewillow and began to guard the camp. Despite feeling her nerves on end, Birchpaw felt calmer with a more experienced warrior to keep her company. "I feel so bad for Shellkit. She must've been so afraid, and lonely." Birchpaw knew better than to wish for the she kit to be alive. That was overstepping even her high hopes.

Skygaze nodded at her higher up's command. With that the lean feline began to follow the blue tabby. She threw a quick glance over her shoulder at the rest of camp. Blackfrost's patrol had yet to leave camp yet. She rolled her shoulders and decided not to focus on what was going on behind her. All the she cat could do know, was focus on what the future held for her.

Blackfrost nodded to Bluesong before the patrol departed. The cats for the patrol were already practically gathered, so Blackfrost headed out. As he began to exit camp Moonpaw's question caught him off guard. "No. Shellkit's gone. As much as Thornstar and Goosefeather might try and seem strong, and have hope, they know too. Their daughter is gone." Blackfrost tried not to let his voice crack as he spoke with his apprentice.

  • (I'm kind of lost...I might have misread a post though.)

    Lunalight

The she-cat nodded her head as she listened to the deputy's responds to her words. One ear twitched lightly as orders were suddenly being called out, a touch of confusion slipped into her mismatched eyes. Hadn't the leader wanted to speak with them about something? Shouldn't they wait to see what was said before sending cats off? She had thought Bluesong would be accompany her, Crowsong, Skygaze, and Hickerynose on a patrol, although it was highly unlikely they'd find the kit at all, she hoped the search would send some reassurance to Goosefeather. She wasn't exactly sure what should of been done at the moment, so left it alone for the time being, keeping most her focus on the leader as she waited to see what was going to be said.

    Silverpaw

The apprentice whipped his head around to listen as Skygaze appeared notice his gaze lingering on her. He wanted to argue that he could handle himself, however as she further elaborated on why she didn't want to him to come along he submitted to her will. It was weird having cats care about whether he died or not, it wasn't like he's been here all that long. He watched the older she-cat pad off with the others. One ear twitched when he heard his named called for another patrol by the deputy....okay so he was going on a patrol after all? He simply shrugged his shoulders before padding over to his mentor once again. He was mildly confused, trying to understand who was doing what and where, and so waited for Skygaze to lead the way.

    Foxtail

The warrior laid off to the side of the camp, staying out of every ones way. He sat with Bearheart and the blind apprentice Elfinpaw. None of the three bothered saying a word to one another as he looked at the cats going off into patrols. The two warriors might off offered their assistance but neither one wished to leave he camp empty and so remain silent and valiant for the time being.

  • OOC: Lunalight is on the patrol too lol, I already thought she was coming so I just called over the other cats. And Silverpaw is 12 moons old, correct? That means, if he's growing normally, he should be almost the size of a regular full grown cat by now. I assigned him to a patrol because I don't think we should exclude the older apprentices. I was typing that paragraph before I saw the post @CobaltFire posted, sorry.

    Bluesong
Bluesong looked at Silverpaw, and then to Skygaze, "I didn't hear before that Skygaze didn't want you on patrol. She may pull you out if she wishes." She lightheartedly flicked her adoptive kit's whiskers, hoping to cheer him up. "I'm sorry that I tried to send him out when you said no," she turned to Skygaze.

    Firewillow
Firewillow nodded at the young apprentice. "I can only hope that she didn't suffer for too long. I couldn't bear to see her in pain..." Firewillow stopped at a stone outside of the camp. "But now, the patrols will make sure that the bird will never hunt again."

    Moonpaw
(Ik Harrierfoot's not here and Moonpaw's his apprentice, so I'm going to roll with it like he's here)
Moonpaw lowered his head in sorrow, almost trudging next to Harrierfoot. It was almost numbing, to think that one second was all it took for Shellkit to be carried away. "I'll make sure that bird is beyond dead," he growled to himself.

The post was edited 1 time, last by ~*FIREPAW*~ ().

  • OOC: I didn't know Silver was 12 moons ^.^" If you want I can always just delete what Skygaze said and we can add him. Also I'm completely misreading everything. Probably because I'm studying for my final math test while typing these

  • OOC: I'm working on chem right now, don't worry I'm reading through fast as well. I think Silverpaw should be added to the patrol

  • Smudgedpaw!

    Apprentice
    Mentor: Emberfeather
    Family: Pipetpaw | Brother
    Love Interest: Open
    Interacting With: Bluesong
OOC: Smudgedpaw watched the bird fly off in horror. Her smeared white and brown pelt was fluffed up, making the small apprentice look twice her size. Her teal-green eyes were stretched wide and were shiny with fear, but she managed to make her way over to Bluesong. The she-cat was young, only 7 moons, but already she had established herself as an overachiever and a workaholic. "I.. I wanna come too." She said, trying - and failing - to sound confident. She didn't want to stay in camp where she could reply that scene over and over again. She wanted to help, be a part of the solution. She didn't know where her mentor was, but perhaps she could join too.

    Pipetpaw!

    Apprentice
    Mentor: Hickorynose
    Family: Smudgedpaw | Sister
    Love Interest: Open
    Interacting With: Moonpaw
OOC: Pipetpaw blinked as he watched the patrol gather and discuss what they were going to do, and he sighed lazily. Hickorynose volunteered on the patrol, but it looked like they were leaving the younger apprentices behind. Lucky for him. The tom hated doing hard work and the search definitely seemed like hard work. He flicked his tail irritably as his sister offered to join the patrol as well, knowing - thankfully - that she would be denied. Hearing Moonpaw muttering under his breath, he padded over. "I don't think you're going to do that," he said cooly. Pipetpaw was an excellent manipulator and instilling fear in his clanmates was one way he planned to make his way to the top. If they were all afraid and he wasn't then of course he'd be the perfect choice for leader. "I've heard of birds big enough to carry full grown twolegs away. Do you really think that thing is feeding it's kits? No way. It's feeding it's brood mother."
  • OOC: Okay so for any reading, Ignore what Blackmist said, same goes for Skygaze

Birchpaw smiled at Firewillow, thankful for the kind she cat's words. "I just never thought something like that could happen. I mean, I heard about that kind of stuff in nursery tales, but it all sounded so fake." Birchpaw flicked one of her ears as a bird in the distance took off, causing some branches to rustle. Birchpaw jumped a little, and then quickly tried to reclaim some dignity by looking the other way. Despite this, the spotted feline still felt hot under her pelt.
