I do agree with that, I was just thinking over a more short-term period. After all, whatever may happen in the next 100 or 200 years, we don't know if we'll even get here. There's plenty of time for society to decline, either by our own actions or for some natural event to stunt our growth. That could put us back a few centuries for all we know. Still, that's just from a classicist's point of view, with globalisation and technology we might have finally stabilised. I have no idea.
Further, if we have the ability to make that kind of ai, then wouldn't that mean we can completely understand the human brain? Then what stops us from copying it over and creating sentient machines that are essentially us? There's been sci-fi about it, so I don't think it's unlikely people will at least try to move in that direction. Then it would be difficult to start a war since people strive for a benefits. But then that's a whole new can of worms.
Really what I'm trying to say is that there's no way to see what will happen. The reactions of governments, opinions of people, how much regulation there'll be, how quickly will the public gain access, etc etc. There are so many factors that it's hard for me to actually have an opinion either way.
ikr, same.
