Welcome to the 1600's. During this time, shipping is at its biggest, with multiple galleons boarding off of the dock, and into the vast sea to import and export supplies from one town to the next. You are no different. Your character lives aboard The Dunant, a cargo ship whose almost always at sea. Sure, sometimes the waters can be rough, and the weather occasionally stormy, but it is a big business and an eventful life.
However, your character's life take place below the deck. Ship members have been bringing animals, both pet and livestock, aboard. These animals have been recruited to do certain jobs; dogs would guard supplies and livestock and cats would get rid of mice. Despite all of this, unbeknownst to the sailors, the animals have created factions to better benefit their survival, and made intricate communities. Now, although not at war, the relationship between the Dog Faction and the Cat Faction has been fairly shaky. The dogs are getting more and more suspicious, as the cats get closer and closer to the livestock. While the cats have been feeling the dogs' watch over them become tighter and stricter. Will these two factions finally break and declare war? Will they ever be able to find peace during these hard times? That is for you to decide.
Factions
What are Factions?
Factions, in this case, are societies of ship animals who join together to have a better chance of survival.
Dog Faction
The Dog Faction is a faction of all of the ship's dogs. Below is their ranks in their pack.
The Head Family (infinite)-The head family isn't exactly a royal family, but if the leader or their spouse dies or retires, one of their children will take responsibility of leader.
Second in Command (1)-The second is the leader's right hand man and will take over as leader if there are no more heirs.
Council Members (4)-The Council Members help the Head Family and Second make decisions on certain topics, especially if it involves more "legal system" type things.
Healers (infinite)-Healers are members who heal sick or injured members.
Warriors/Guards (infinite)-Warriors/Guards will normally either fight in battles, or protect other members from things like ambushes. They are in the faction for extra protection, and will hunt for food, if there's none to be found.
Elders (infinite)-Elders are the old and retired members.
Kids/Adolescents (infinite)-The kids/adolescents are the children and the teens.
Cat Faction
The Cat Faction is a faction made up of the ship's cats. They have the same ranks as the dogs.
Smaller Factions
Besides the dogs and cats, there are many smaller factions, such as the Mouse Faction, a faction of mice who live in the floors and walls of the ship who were not captured and eaten by cats. The reason why the smaller factions aren't too focused on, is because since they're small and less intimidating, they either get ignored or made fun of by the Dog and Cat factions. They also have the same ranks, just smaller and less noticeable.
The Warden
The Warden is the nickname for the ship captain's pet parrot. The Warden spends most of their time in the Crow's Nest, watching over any faction that's on the deck. Like their nickname suggests, they're usually like an actual warden, watching every move the animals make, making sure none of them does anything bad or suspicious. Despite their good motives, the Warden is usually bossy, snarky and doesn't trust anyone, except for the humans.
Territories
Gunroom
The gunroom is the room that contains all of the ship's cannons, cannonballs, gunpowder, and other weapons. It is also the territory of the Dog Faction.
Storage Room
The storage room, stores different materials that can't be fit on deck, such as rum and other foods. This is the territory of the Cat Faction, mostly because the cats were put down there to hunt down mice.
Captain's Quarters

The Captain's Quarters, is where the captain of the ship sleeps and makes plans. Whenever the captain and crew are not in there, it is used as a meeting spot for all of the factions. This is the only place where it doesn't matter if you're allies, neutral or enemies, because no one can fight each other here.
The Crow's Nest

The Crow's Nest is the place that helps the crew get better looks and hold up the sails. It is also The Warden's favorite hangout place.

My Characters

Name: Morag
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Female
Species: Dog (Lakeland Terrier)
Faction: Dog Faction
Rank: Warrior/Guard
Personality (include strengths, weaknesses, fears, dreams, likes, dislikes, etc.): Morag is different from the other dogs in her faction because unlike them who has a shaky and bitter relationship with the cats, she actually likes the cats. She is very loyal, kind, and is a great fighter, despite her gentle personality. All she wants to do is make her faction proud of her, but she's nervous that telling them that she doesn't think the cats are bad, will stop her from achieving her goal. She is pretty clumsy and bad at making decisions. She really likes music, stopping anything she's doing, just to listen to the music that the sailors are playing, which can be a bad thing. Despite her loving the sea life, she absolutely hates the smell of fish.
History: She lived a comfortable life in Scotland, until her owner found out about the shipping business blooming in England, so they moved there to become part of the crew. She ended up liking the cats when she had an interaction with one of the Cat Faction members once.
Relationships (parents, siblings, friends, spouses, kids, rivals, etc.): none yet
Other: Animal Shapeshifting

Name: MistStar
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
Species: Cat
Faction: Cat Faction
Rank: Leader
Personality: MistStar usually acts calm and kind around her faction. However, when face up against another faction, ecspecially Dog Faction, she acts a bit more snarky and suspicious. All she wants is the best for her faction, and she doesn't want to see them get injured or hurt, which can make her overprotective over her own faction. She is very intelligent and secretly loves naps and some of the spare human food. She despises people who tell her what to do and wet, slippery floors.
History: She used to be a stray, before secretly sneaking aboard. Luckily for her, the crew welcomed her and thought she was another ship cat. She has lived there ever since.
Relationships: none yet
Other: Once again animal shapeshifting. Like you can only shapeshift into animals, prehistoric animals or mythical animals, but it's still cool.
