  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]They were starting to run low on certain herbs, and since Sel didn't seem to notice he figured he'd go find them on his own. It'd be good training and he needed to know where stuff grew, anyways. The tom grabbed a satchel to store the herbs he found, and let Trudy find a comfortable place to curl up on his back before heading out.

He wasn't the most stealthy person in the world though, and the tom sneaking away on his own was bound to attract attention.

these wild oceans shake what's left of me loose
just to hear me cry mercy — he/him, panther, addict

Neptuneblue on drugs might not have sensed Nicotine trying to sneakily leave camp by himself, but he had been sober for about... 5 or 6 days now, almost a whole week. The panther easily detected the apothecary apprentice trying to leave camp, and his suspicions were instantly arisen. Nico seemed like a pretty solid guy, so he wasn't sure why he was trying to be all stealthy. Cautiously, he stalked towards the feline, a frown creasing his features. "Nico, what are you doing?" He asked, raising a metaphorical brow.[fancypost=background:royalblue;height:1px;padding:0;width:450px;]

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]If it'd been anybody else, he could've been almost certain they were wondering if he was going out to hunt down Ryan and beat the everliving shit out of him. But it wasn't, it was a relative newcomer to the Skulls; Sel's weird dad. Luckily, Nico's motivations weren't nearly as shitty as they could've been, and he had a legitimate reason for leaving.

"I'm going to collect some herbs, I want to surprise Sel by replenishing our stocks by myself." Nico answered honestly as Trudy watched from his back with her creepy glowing eyes. She was definitely a presence to get used to, but by now Nico barely even noticed she was there.

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]Apparently Nico was trying to give Ryan a run for his money on the shady scale. Or... not, since he claimed he was just going herb hunting. "So you're telling me you're actually Lucy's apprentice?" He asked as he wandered over, narrowing his eyes. Yes, he still hadn't been convinced.

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]And.. There went his cheerful mood. Nico bit his tongue as Ryan spoke, and tried to keep his temper under control. It was a legitimate question, and he'd give an honest answer; Ryan had expressed that he'd wanted to learn before, and he wasn't going to learn anything if everybody pushed him away. Didn't keep Nico from wanting to push Ryan's face into the sand.

"Yes, I'm actually her apprentice. She's the leader and the apothecary, I'm the apothecary's apprentice." Nico explained as Trudy's fingers curled painfully into his fur.

  • "What ya'll bickering 'bout now." The older canine said padding towards the group, eyeing the satchel. "Ay, good idea kid. But, even if you want to do it by yourself we're a group for a reason. If ya let others help ya out we could carry triple the amount of herbs back." The old man said stretching out a bit.

"Plus, going with a buddy is safer."

"It's always something with you too, isn't it?" Sel asked as she padded over, standing next to the two old timers (one significantly older than the other, but she'd likely never stop teasing Nep about being old). "Behave, both of you." She sat down and licked a paw. "Wait... you were hoping to surprise me? Uh, whoops. I can go -"

  • What in the world were all the adults chatting about? They reminded her of a bunch of seagulls cawing at one another for a second or two. She heard something about herbs, but not much else since she stayed tucked away in a barrel that smelled like rotting driftwood. Herbs were a curious matter to her, much like just about everything else that she didn't already know about, so she left her barrel haven and scampered straight to Nico after dodging under and around the limbs and such of the other Skull members present. "Are you going out to look for herbs?" She asked, looking at Nico but finding it hard not to look at Trudy too.

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]Ryan huffed at Nico's response, but he didn't have anything else to say to it. Besides, Lucy was here and he wasn't keen on digging the hole with her any deeper.

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]Nico pressed his ears back at Dinky's scolding, mildly annoyed that he was being treated like a child but mostly relieved; the words helped him ground himself and not let his emotions sway out of control like they'd been getting lately.

"Yeah, I guess you're right." Nico said. Going alone would be a good way to cool off, but going as a group would be nice so long as he didn't let his hatred get the best of him. He let out a sigh as Sel approached, probably attracted by the commotion; well, now there was no point to going alone to try to keep the surprise intact.

"Naw, you can stay. It won't be much of a surprise if you're expecting it." Nico said with a shrug. As Xylia scampered up, he braced himself for the incoming questions; he loved answering her questions, but you never knew what she'd be asking about.

"Yeah, I was gonna go look for herbs. Anybody can tag along, if they want." Nico said, trying to ignore the fact that he'd also extended that invitation to his enemy. Whatever, so long as there were people around he didn't think anything too bad could happen between them.
