    I'M YOUR LIONHEART — alice — windclan — she/her — tags

    [fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%]There was a small rounded clearing in the thick forest, only a short walk from camp. The ground was solid, yet a thin layer of spongy moss coated the area, making for a soft landing and a good spring. Ferns circled the open space; it was a bit of a squeeze to get in, but they wouldn't be bothered. Alice, after a moment of observation and brief mental notes, called back to her mentor happily. "Kate? I think I found a place to train," she reported cheerfully.

    @kate marsh.

    [fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%][color=beige]To say that Kate was excited to mentor an apprentice in something outside of the medical field would be an understatement. Especially since Alice was the one she would be training. She always enjoyed spending time with the lioness. Quickly rushing after her, the serval came to a stop at her side, taking a moment to evaluate the space Alice chose for their training. "Wow-- Alice, this looks perfect! How did you find it?" Well, she supposed that did not matter. There was plenty of places in the new territory yet to be discovered. "Let's train here then, shall we? Is there anything in particular you'd like to start with?"

    [fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%]Alice's cheeks warmed with pride at her accomplishment - though she wasn't too sure how she found it herself. "There are a couple clearings like this," she explained briefly. "Not as nice. I was looking for one of them." This had ended up even better, though - so she was hardly complaining. The lioness pawed at the moss experimentally, before glancing back to Kate. What to start with? She had no idea - she had never done any training prior to this. "The basics, I guess," the femme responded with a grin.

    [fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%][color=beige]The basics. It was a vague answer, but she supposed that just meant that Alice wasn't picky on the matter. "Hmm. Alright, we can do that. Would you prefer to start with hunting or battle training?" she decides to ask then, figuring it would narrow things down perfectly for them. She did not mind either way, and wanted Alice's first session with her mentor to be a fun and helpful experience.

    [fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%]Seeing as she had already covered a tiny bit of hunting with Vader and Pluto, Alice opted for the latter. "Battle training, I guess," the lioness responded, flicking her tail enthusiastically. Perhaps her previous answer had been quite vague; the basics of combat sounded like an interesting way to start the training session. Defensive or offensive - which would come in handy more often? Alice wasn't sure herself; she was simply eager to be able to join her clan in battle. It would take time before she reached that stage, but until her first fight, she would just have to pour her heart into these lessons.

    [fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%]Kate nods stepping back to give them both space. She was pretty well knowledge in combat, but teaching someone the moves was a completely different experience. She hoped that she did not disappoint Alice, this was her first time mentoring anyone to be a warrior. "One of the most important things I can start off teaching you is to keep your balance. Take a moment to pay attention to how your standing." The serval shifted herself, standing in a more defensive position, muscles tensed-- hoping it could serve as a visual example for the lioness. "And always be sure to stay alert. Never let your defenses down-- your enemy more than likely won't give you a warning or heads up." [color=#FFA07A]As if to prove her point, the serval leapt in the air, aiming to either knock Alice down or make her stumble back with a shove. Hoping that Alice would be prepared enough to avoid the attack.

    [fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%]The lioness nodded, copying Kate's actions. She straightened up, assuming a better posture, and stood square, tensing her leg muscles. Alice made sure not to miss a single word her mentor spoke, ears pricked as she took in all of the advice. Things she had never considered before about combat; her stance, her mentality. It wasn't all about a relentless attack or steely defense; there was something key to both offense and defense. The sudden leap surprised her, though instinct backed her up a couple of steps with haste before the two made impact. Alice grinned at her quick reflexes - she'd never realised they would come in handy in battle. "I understand," she assured the serval, pride filling in her chest. Though recalling the advice, she swallowed the feeling, eyes peeled for another attack.

    [fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%][color=beige]Kate could tell by the look on her fact that she understood, and the expression on her face would tell Alice how proud she actually was of her apprentice already. Alice was such a smart kid that she had no doubts she'd be able to learn everything in no time. "Alright good. Now let's use that piece of advice to remember that your opponent is probably going to be thinking the same exact thing. I want you to try and knock me down as best as you can. Find a way to trip me up. Whenever you're ready." She straightened herself out and waited, her gaze locked on the lioness. Waiting for her to make the first move.

    [fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%]The enemy would be thinking the exact same thing - another thing to add to the list of things she didn't know about battle. Well, it was early stages yet. Her opponent would have a firm stance too, and be on high alert. Adrenaline would fuel quick reflexes and stronger hits; strategy was an important part if you planned to knock the enemy off of their feet. Alice paused, tense, her eyes quickly analysing the situation. Not an opportunity she would be given in a raid - but again, this was learning. The real stuff would come in time. Her moves decided, the lioness leaped to Kate's side, aiming to sweep a paw against the back of her forelegs to unbalance her. It was a clumsy move, and the swing caused her to lose her own balance. Whether it made impact or not, she wasn't sure, but the hit wasn't strong enough to leave a bruise, that was for certain. Alice stumbled, and quickly righted herself, retreating.
