    CAUGHT IN A DAYDREAM — alice — windclan — she/her — tags

[fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%]Alice had been in the library since dawn. It was odd, really, that she hadn't fully explored the selection of texts that it offered since moving; yet her mind had been occupied - cluttered, even - with so many other things. The big move itself, adjusting to the new territory and settling in, exploring; then came the drama within the family which she wasn't going to dwell over - though she did wish Padmè would return; the take-over and the sudden violence and torture. There was always a new problem popping up. Hell, Negan was still in charge, to her dismay and immense frustration, though many of her clanmates were beginning to take action against him. She would get involved for certain; she despised Negan and his sickening anti-clan ideals. But today she was taking a break, allowing her mind to settle and resume one of her favourite pastimes: reading.

The new library, unfortunately, did not have a broad collection of fictional works aside from the ones Navi had donated. Disappointing, but Alice wouldn't let that fact deter her. The lioness was exploring the non-fiction books for a change. The majority of them had no appeal to her at all, covering tedious subjects such as religion or local history. The young advisor was just reconsidering her visit when she had stumbled across a thick, leather bound book coated in dust. The pages were yellowed, though the text still legible. The title must have been printed on the original cover, though there was none on the leather and no blurb; this meant Alice was required to open the book to discover what it was about. And it fascinated the girl from the first word - Jedi. She had heard of them before, though her knowledge was limited. That was the purpose of the book, was it not? To inform her.

Alice spent most of the morning lying in a spot of sunshine beneath a window, book in hand. She flickes through the pages, intrigued by the descriptions of the great warriors. Seekers of justice and peace for the world - for the galaxy. Users of the Force. That in particular caught her attention. She had been pondering the reason she was sensitive to the Force - yes, Force sensitivity was in her blood, but there had to be a reason particular individuals were sensitive to it at all. Maybe those people had a purpose to do with maintaining balance in the Force.

"The Force is an energy field that connects all living things in the galaxy. [...] Jedi use the Force for protection, persuasion, wisdom, manipulation of matter and performance of great physical feats. [...] Though only certain individuals are Force-sensitive, the Force resides within all living things."

Alice read on and on; how the Force granted Force-sensitives certain powers, and how it could be harnessed for both good and evil. She found herself in complete awe of the Jedi; how they wielded such power yet remained humble, and dedicated themselves to justice. The lioness gradually realised that that this was what she wanted to do - more than anything. Bring righteousness, justice, peace wherever she could, and explore the Force - the light side of it, where she could use it without manipulation. A life with purpose, meaning... something motivating her to a lifetime goal. This place was strong in the Force - the shrine especially. Perhaps it wasn't just a religious group that had settled here - maybe before them had been Force-users. Either way, she was now more pleased than ever that they had moved. This was an opportunity that she wanted to take. Her decision was a little impulsive, and would require more thought in the long run; but this trip to the library had been a valuable one. Funny how things work out the way they do.

  • The collie wasn't one for reading, preferring to listen to audio books and music instead. When he did read, he mostly stuck to fantasy and science fiction novels, occasionally indulging on a graphic novel. He loved how the authors managed to paint entire universes that are different from his own, giving him insight to a more interesting side to books that he hadn't known existed. Lately he'd been thinking more and more about these novels, spending most of his nights thinking about aliens and time travel. The canine had even managed to stay still through a couple of chapters, only stopping once or twice to walk around the place. Walking around while reading was always a choice, but last time he'd ended up walking right into a tree because he wasn't paying attention. He'd finished 'The Martian' yesterday night, and was walking into the rather small fiction section when he noticed Alice sitting all alone. The two of them didn't really know each other well, but he was pretty curious about the book she was reading, big print on the side reading 'Jedi'. Huh, what were Jedi? "Hello, hello! I didn't take you for the fiction type of gal. What'cha reading?"

[fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%]The little lioness flinched, startled by the voice, and quickly sat up, slipping a few times in her haste. She didn't recognise the canine and her hazel gaze immediately dropped to the floor, chest tightening with nerves. Alice just about caught his words, and took a deep breath to calm herself. Relax. He is friendly. She raised her eyes slightly, though still avoided eye contact. A paw lightly scratched at the floor as she responded before the silenc dragged on for too long. "Well - um - yeah, I like reading." She innerly groaned at her social skills. "This is non-fiction, though," she corrected him, trying not to sound stuck-up. Oh, she hoped it was non-fiction. It had to be - the Force did exist, and it was written in a guide-like format. "It's about Jedi, and the Force. Um, I'm Alice - I don't think we've met?" If she was going to have a conversation, the least she could do was let him know her name. The femme let her muscles relax as her father entered the room. It was odd, really - his presence usually caused the opposite effect. She wasn't sure why - maybe it was the breathing. She liked the breathing - it was comforting, and rhythmic. "Yes, most of it is in Aurebesh," she agreed, gazing at the book almost longingly, keen to get reading again. She had been hesitant in learning the language, but now she was glad she had. Some of the words she was unfamiliar with, but if she could decipher the rest of the sentence, a guess wouldn't be too far off.

    Oliver Queen-Stark
    "The Arrow"

It seemed as though Alice was following in the footsteps of her father. Hopefully, she wouldn't turn out as violent as he, however.

"I trust it's interesting, at least?" the advisor asked her as he padded over.

  • He went quiet when the other's came in, listening to what they had to say before responding to Alice's question. "I'm more of an audio book person, but that's just because I don't have the best attention span. My name's Bane though, pleasure to meet you Alice! The name reminds me of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and you of the main character." As always, the collie said more than what was nessacary, a relaxed smile on his face as she continued to talk. "Force and Jedi eh? Sounds like something you'd hear about in a movie, doesn't it?"

[fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%]Alice nodded to Oliver as the gryffin stepped into the library too. It was a popular destination today, wasn't it? The pale lioness nodded again in agreement, smiling timidly. "Oh, yes. Really interesting," she assured the advisor, before turning back to Bane. "I guess," she murmured, which responded to everything at once. Funny, she couldn't stand audio books - the reader almost always mispronounced one of those key words just because it wasn't in the dictionary. In fact, she wasn't really a movie kid either, never having had the opportunity to see one.

  • i think there's a fault in my code

It wasn't a secret to most members of the clan that Henry spent more time in the library than anywhere else in Windclan. In his past life, he'd owned a mansion with it's own library. He'd been very ill when he was young and had made it his personal mission to read every single book that was there. It wasn't often he actually heard anyone else speaking in the library, though. Perhaps that was why he liked it so much, it was one of the few places he seemed able to get any sort of quiet. He was quite glad that this one was significantly more expansive than the one in their old territory, which hadn't been much bigger tahn the cottages that surrounded it. He was carrying a few books on mental blocks. He wasn't sure if he believed he could actually learn how to practice them but he had something in mind for them if he could. With a mind as turbulant as his own, he thought it may be useful to see if there could be some way to defend it. If anyone were to reach into his mind and learn of Hyde, there would be dire consequences to pay. In this world, though, it seemed anything was possible and so he wanted to be ready for things he would usually dismiss as impossible.

Whem he would hear other voices, though, he'd quietly set down the few he'd been carrying and limp towards the little group that had gathered. The Force? That was what Vader used to move things about without touching them, wasn't it? He couldn't say he understood it well but he did get the basic idea. At least, he was pretty sure he did. At the mention of audio books, though, he seemed to grow rather confused. Was this another invention past his own time? "What's an audio book?" He would question.

Kate would tell Henry as she padded over, going to sit down, wrapping her tail around her paws. She personally loved to read on her own, but she had used audio-books on occasion. Mostly in her last life when she had been human, for school assignments. It made things an awful lot easier. But there was two words that she was surprised did not puzzle the others as much as it did her. "... What's this jedi and force stuff? I always here people talking about it around here..." She'd never watched Star Wars; in this life or her last. She wasn't a big fan of movies.

  • i think there's a fault in my code

At Kate's response, he would frown a bit in distaste of the idea. Why would anyone but a child want a book simply read to them? Perhaps there was some sort of charm in it. He'd try to look around for one of those big music disks and see if they had anything like that. He didn't want to insult it before he had the chance to try to it out, after all. "Isn't that a bit lazy? To have someone else just read the entire book for you? I feel like it'd be somewhat difficult to process the information without looking at the actual words," He would question.

[fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 450px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%][color=beige]Kate gave a small shrug of her shoulders. "Some people have a hard time reading. Reading isn't for everyone, I suppose." she tells him casually. "And it probably makes reading easier for people who are blind and that can't be taught how to read brail." she points out.

  • He had quietly been listening to the other's talk, nodding at Kate's words."What she said. Reading isn't too easy for me due to some problem up here," At this point he pointed up to his head, making a tiny swirling motion. "So audio books to the rescue! It also means I can multi-task without walking off a cliff."

I'm certainly glad it can spare you from the fate of a cliff." Kate says, almost half in amusement towards Sanepaw, offering him a tiny smirk. He certainly seemed like a lot of fun to hang out and chat with. She hoped to bump into him and perhaps get to know him better in the near future on their own time. Especially since he was a new member and it'd be fun to get to know him. "I could probably see if I can find any laying around my own chalet if you want any new ones, Sanepaw."
