  • You're wrong. It's not the world that's messed up; it's those of us in it. Yes, some ghouls walk a path that leaves sorrow in their wake, but just like humans, we can choose a different path altogether. We have a lot to learn, both your kind and mine. We need to stop fighting, and start talking. Because when it comes to the state of the world, you can't point your finger at ghouls or humans. We're all to blame. ~~Kaneki Ken~~

    Em

She was trying to keep up with her brother without being out of breath. She kept watching the ones in the distance. They were getting closer but she knew they were trying to intimidate them. It wasn't working on Em but she didn't know about Jason. She looked at her brother who was pushing forward and taking down any and all zombies in his way. She made sure that the ones who were trying to take advantage of him being distracted were taken care of.

    Jason

He was clearing a path through a group of zombies when he looked back and seeing his sister was literally saving his back. He smiled and saluted her before he continued back to what he was doing. Once they finished Jason grabbed Em's hand and ran. Once it started to get dark they found a place for the night. They cleared it out and boarded it up. Jason took the first watch to let his sister rest. They switched at 1 am

  • athena watched blair, her eyes warm with admiration, her eyes sliding closed. she relaxed on their bed, not asleep but resting as she listened to blair leaving the room. she could hear the moans and groans outside the compound of the zombies that had trailed after them. sighing gently she let her mind drift away from the present, her body relaxed and quiet. huffing she stretched out, the pain in her arm a dull throb as she raised her good hand to where blair had kissed her on the cheek. smiling she felt her own face warm, humming under her breath.

low muse sorry the kids are watching as movie and i need to go fix my card //

  • Blair admired the work they had done to help Athena a moment longer before being placed back into the moment. Growls and moans were coming from outside, and they could swear it was coming closer. They sighed, There's more of them. There's always more of them. Blair stood and pulled out the pistol and checked to see how many shots were left in the gun - there were 4. These had to be emergency ones. Silently, they prayed the infestation outside wasn't so bad.

"I'll take care of the zombies outside, you should stay here." Blair spoke gently, but with forceful intent. If Athena left and started fighting the vermin outside then she might open the stitches and start bleeding more and draw more attention from the zombies. It was safer for everyone if she stayed.

They grabbed the crowbar in a vice grip and left the room, taking a glance back at Athena before doing so. Carefully, they opened the door to the shelter and almost expected zombies to be immediately there on the other side, but they weren't. As far as they could see, there weren't any around, but that only made them more dangerous. Hidden ones were the worst. They stood with their back pressed against the wall and waited.

  • Hayla watched them moved expertly around the gates keeping the most simple minds to attempt to shove st the gate. Hayla wasn't stood though she knew they could do much more then shove st a gate. Peeling her eyes away she spotted the adult known as Blair, Hayla took this time to remove herself from her spot. She slowly moved to Blair listening to them growl and groan, probably interested in her..Bleh she didn't like zombies no one did.. But Hayla felt hers was soul deep..having to grow up in this era..never knowing when ... Brought out of her thoughts once she entered the shelters door she peered in Don't swing Blair... She said with some bitter sarcasm..if Athena did this Hayla wouldn't be forced to feel guilty about watching her get hurt. Ah well zombies will be on them soon right..they never gave up without a fight..

  • athena made a soft noise as she watched blair leave, half pouting but knowing. she thought to her sister as she waited. her family wasn't african-american they were straight up african. her sister and her had been raised in africa by poor parents butthey hadn't cared. her mother had died a long time ago when she was eight of a disease she couldn't cure even as the medicinal practicer in their village. her sister and she were saved by her sister's american boyfriend who had met the family a time ago and got them to safety when the disease spread. reko and athena were immune to it, even as their mother was one of the first victims. reko went with her boyfriend and left athena by herself in the strange new world.

she'd received news that reko had lost partial mobility after her legs had been caught under a crushed building she'd been in upon collapse, doing rescues. the virus had spread and reko had affectionately called it 'Armageddon 2.0'.

  • Hayla didn't wait for a reply she simply moved on. Following the hallway towards the sleeping areas. She mentally wanted to go straight to her own room, but pausing just to knock on Athenas door if she answered that would be horrific yet it had to be done. She'd apologise for her not helping much and running like the rest.. Seriously it was either her skin or.. Sheathing her mini chete she listen for screams or some kind of warning zombies gotten in the few moments she was wasting time trying to say sorry. Scoffing she turned to leave and gather some supplies in case the morons climbed the gate by now or something.

  • athena sat on the edge of the bed, consumed by thought and the elder colored woman too distracted by past and present meshing to have any awareness of hayla outside the door. her ears were tuned though, but they weren't hearing the present which was dangerous in and of itself. she wanted to be kicking zombie ass but because of the wound she was more than a helpless food source. she didn't blame the children, she would have been just as scared had she seen someone stagger upright after jumping on something (and landing wrong mind you) and turn towards her, like the kids had seen her do. She'd been hunting the dead and the kids were too close for comfort even as she was teaching the younger ones. It had been a close call because she knew the zombie was about to leap at the kids and had decided it time to end the lesson. she was proud of them in about odd sense, the kids had fast reflexes and her drop of a height probably scared them pretty bad because the blood spray had gone far. she could only guess they were more occupied with the zombie than the woman teaching them to sneak past it.

  • Blair was fully aware of Hayla's presence and was sure not to swing at the girl. In Blair's mind, Hayla was, by far, the most capable child of the group. She was full of spunk, comfortable in the outside world, and had an awareness of danger. They had the feeling that she would live for a while longer. When the girl had gone back inside though, Blair moved forward finally and went for the sound of the oncoming moans.

Blair really didn't need to go very far since they waited so long and zombies were pretty slow. The rotten thing was caught on pole that had impaled itself through the zombie's stomach. It was easy enough for them to take the crowbar and shove it through the thing's eye socket and let it go limp. They could hear a few more around, so they went on the hunt.

  • (after this ill wait for another reply ^^;;) //

athabasca remained seated, her eyes closed against the bright lighting (it's dim really) and waited for blair's safe return. she drifted into a daydreaming state, none of which had daisies and lollipops. instead it was of the past, when she had first met blair, and ... made her first kill. the dream wasn't long but it still hurt, hurt like a wrench to the head. oh wait, she already knew what that felt like, maybe a few dozen hornets coming after you once you fell on their nest?

at this time it wasn't so soon to the present but this was when athabasca was young, she'd quit counting the years. she surmised she was twenty five and over now, and the disease had stormed the world when she was nine and in america. she'd been about fifteen and hadn't made her first undead kill, the designated healer of a group she was with before an accident occurred. in this accident she both met blair and lost what she counted as family. the group had gone after a swarm where she'd first found the main group of zombies and called her group over. she was the decoy. only this time, she wasn't the only decoy.

she had been leading the zombies on a goose chase when she'd been joined by a younger person. not sure who they were she labeled them a little sister who must be protected. her group was taking down the zombies in the back, when they ran right into trouble. athena had mistakenly taken the wrong turn and was at a dead end alley. she had her knife with her and a 'little sister' she needed to protect. the zombies closed in, and by the time that the group got to her, they'd been bitten on scratched and some were already shaking and foaming. she knew what she had to do when the big brother of the group lunged at her ravening like a mad dog.

she had taken her knife and driven it into his skull when he leapt at her. she had blair to keep safe and she would do it if it cost her life too. athena took down the rest of the group if they didn't turn on one another or take their own lives, which left one or two to kill and they were still half human and begging for their lives. she didn't get any thrill of killing her own family, but she had too, to keep herself and blair safe.

stirring athena found her face wet when her eyes opened, tears as she remembered her second family before this, her third family. there was even a mum and pa of the group though they died early, after she got there.

if this isn't agreeable to blair's history or character i can edit the post, sykcel //

  • OOC: uhh it isn't perfectly agreeable to her history, but then again I made the character sheet before i knew the time frame of the apocalypse. so, i don't mind it

Blair followed the noise, and again, it wasn't too far away from the first impaled zombie. This one, just as Hayla had suspected, followed the trail of blood droplets on the ground and was crawling, actually biting at the dirt to get a taste of the blood. Blair growled, not even bothering to use a weapon this time. They reared back, and stomped on the head of the zombie. Their entire body was covered in blood at this point. Their shoulder was soaked with Athena's blood, their shirt was spattered enough it was like someone had taken a wet paint brush and thumb across the strands to spatter them, and now their boots were covered in brain-matter. Blair sighed and shook off their leg. For now, the immediate area was quiet and they went back to the shelter.

"The zombies outside are taken care of!" They called to the quiet house, "It's safe."

Blair tried to think of what they should do now. They were covered in blood, and Athena would probably worry if she saw them like this, but so would the kids. Well, the kids stabbed a breathing person today, so they should be fine. Blair went down the hall and went into the separate bedroom for the kids, "You guys okay back here?" Blair received only mildly fearful looks, but was mostly stared at because of how much blood they were coated in. They weren't the best parent, so it was only expected she leave them to their own devices and go back to Athena

  • while alone and the adults well adult had went to clean up the dead, Hayla was currently stuffing a few things in her bag and heading for the play room were her and the kids could relax without much worry. Yet everyone sat still through the distant groans and gurgling sounds of put down for good zombies. When all grew silent everyone was staring at the door, Hayla not so much. Blair's outfit and look would scare just about everyone if they wasn't use to this sort of thing. Her quick exit and relief in the air as everyone went back to normal horse play and chatter, Hayla followed Blair out the door and down the hall some Here She said while holding up the bag. Somethings she guessed didn't die hard, like these silly memories of bringing clean clothing and some water after a zombie clean up. If Blair accepted it Hayla would carry on with her first plan and maybe find something she could use, she was current working on a battery powered car toy.

  • Oh okay ^^ (I'm sad I work in less than 5 hours) //

Athena rubbed at the tear tracks, her eyes half open as she looked at the ceiling. She'd taken in the children to teach them to survive the world like her group had done for her before they were put out of their misery. the woman groaned lightly, half laughing at herself as she relaxed into the bed at blair's call of it being safe. she settled back into memory lane and contented herself there, going through her memories.

  • Blair sighed and walked back down the hallway, but paused at the pitter-patter sound of other, smaller footfalls. They turned and found Hayla behinnd them carrying a bag. They reached out and took the gift in one hand then nodded, "Thank you." They looked inside a moment while Hayla was still standing there to see the (I assume clothes and some water/wipes to clean up with??)

  • Noticing the lack of movement and sudden change in her own direction Hayla seemed slightly intrigued by her thoughts of the contents within the bag. A shirt she stole from a dead dead zombie and some water with a ripped cloth. Hayla mushed together some soup pieces she found through put her travels, but it still smelled nicer then the stuff they forced them to use..blah she preferred the fragrance when she knew she wasn't going out with a zombie that day. Still bright hazel eyes danced from bag to her face, while waiting she took the time to deal with her unruly long dreads, twisting them into a bun for now. She needed to trim these after a while.

  • Wake Up

STAY, YOU'RE NOT GONNA LEAVE ME

//just gonna continue w/o adaline ig

carter grumbled softly as the thin knife she had brought with her, snapped off within a zombie's skull. she kicked it down and ran as fast as her legs could carry her. she was pretty fast for being about 5'2" tall, her body was mostly legs so that made up for something. she jogged into camp, not waiting for the other girl. it wasn't that she didn't care, no, it was simply because she knew Adaline could handle it. she was a tough girl, carter had grown slightly close to her in the passing months that they had been in the group.

  • OOC: sink i feel bad me and venture kinda split the group and left you alone ;-; i'm gonna make another charrie

Blair inspected the contents - the shirt, water, and cloth. It was such a nice genture and a very direct way of saying, 'take a bath.' Blair smiled and wiped off one hand on their pants, then pulled out the shirt with the slightly cleaner hand to see what it looked like. It was a faded blue-gray color with some old stains around from food on it, and obviously pulled from a zombie, but they didn't mind. Getting this, at Hayla's age, would be a bit of a hassle. They put the shirt back in the bag and knelt down so they were eye-level with the girl, "Thank you, this is very thoughtful of you. I'd hug you, but . . . well . . ." blair looked down at their blood-stained shirt and laughed

  • Hayla allowed a smile it was short and vanishing as if it was only a memory or a dream. Difficult as it was she nothing went for the skinny make small lady type of zombie of it came to snatch and grab. The offer of a hug made her jump a few inches back with her hands up in surrender No..no hugging..I use to do this for my mom and dad after a good zombie clean up.. So.. Yea completely shaken to the core Hayla turned on her heels and ran for the hills, her mom used to hug her many times..last year was her last hug. Shaking these thoughts she shoved the back exit open to head around the camp. Checking her weapons she effortlessly climbed the gate finding the dent that anyone small enough could shimmy through. Landing silently on her feet she looked back to the confines of her life and darted straight into the forest in the direction of Cater, unknowing of the danger that areas currently was.

carter had almost made it to camp when she heard the tiny footsteps of a child, her head whipped around and she spotted Hayla. She could observe that she was visibly shaken so she kneeled to the ground and stopped her, "hey, hey, whats wrong? are you okay? did someone hurt you?"

  • Angry at her retreat she shuffled through the thicket. What was she gonna do run away, find a hole and root for what sanity she could muster. Scoffing she was just about to turn around when Caters body was suddenly eye level, that would have been her life if a zombie found her roaming without a group plus she was ignorant to her surroundings. Taking in a deep breath and releasing her mini chete to its make shift sheath. Hayla had to remind herself she wasn't alone anymore. No..Yes.. Um Athena got shanked by one of us..children..and we ran..Blair some how brought Athena back and zombies followed she thought about that last part..Zombies followed and she wasn't to sure all of the zombies got piked.. But Blair kicked they butt and..I don't know I gave her a bag..i ran off when she mention hugging or touching.. My last group didn't allow that after my mom and dad died chuckling bitterly she thought about the changes when they killed her parents, a distant moan made her crouch as well pulling her machetes out.
