  • WINIFRED FAITH SHORRAK

Winnie knew that it was a stupid idea for her to be driving. She wasn't the best driver in the entire world to start off with- she'd always been pretty sure that her dad bribed her testing officer in order to get her her license earlier- but she was fighting off so many tears that her eyes were practically welling shut. Match that with the fact that she kept blinking to clear her eyes, and she was probably driving blind more often than with actual visibility. She would have stayed home, but she couldn't. She didn't even know where she was going- at least, she wasn't thinking about it. But when she saw she was at Avan's little apartment building, she sniffled and then just got out of the car, not questioning for a second why she had come here.

She was still only sniffling by the time she made it to his door, but she was weak enough from that effort, distracted enough, that she only managed a soft knock at the door. "Ave...?" she called softly, knowing that it was late, and that, based off his stories and her own experiences, his crotchty neighbors wouldn't take well to a loud interruption. After a second or two, she bit her lip, trying to stop more tears from coming at the realization that she was a total moron- she had no idea if he was there, or if he was asleep, or if he was even with a girl, for gods sake. But, something in her heart told her to stay. So she just gave the door one more little knock and whispered, "Please..."

  • Avan shoced snother mouthfull of popcorn in his mouth, following it with a swig of beer. His brown eyes watched the TV screen, catching up on all the news and events he'd missed earlier in the day. He looked up when he heard a soft knock. His eyesbrows furrowed snd he shook his head, dismissing it as an imaginary noise. However, when he heard the next soft knock and the voice behind it, he rushed out of his chair and headed for the door.

He pulled the door open, eyes widening when he saw who it was. "Winnie. Hey, what's wrong? Come here. Come in..." he breathed, gently wrapping an arm around her snd ushering her in. He locked the door once again, leading her over to the couch. "You want some coffee? A beer? Hor chocolate?" he asked, heading for the kitchen.

  • The second Winnie saw Avan, it was like a dam broke, and all the tears that she'd been trying to keep inside started flowing. She knew she looked pathetic, and ugly, and like a total disaster, but the second he stopped moving she just curled into his chest and cried into his shoulder for a long minute, forever grateful to have a friend like him who she knew would ask the questions later. Her crying escalated from sniffling to tears to sobbing, though, after a few minutes, she steeled herself against the tears and tried her hardest to look up at him defiantly; however, her eyes were still shining, and there were clear trails down her face.

"He's moving." she whispered softly, reaching up and running her hand underneath her eyes, trying to wipe away the tears entirely, though more kept coming. "My dad is moving to Paris forever. He t-," she started, though she had to pause a moment later to take a deep breath in an attempt to control herself- however, even then, she started crying once more. "He t-texted me to tell me. He didn't even come h-h-home..." she whispered before curling back into his chest again and, after another few seconds, just whispering, "He doesn't want me...." before going back to her- granted, much more gentle- crying this time, her heart breaking at the abandonment.

  • Avan's eyes widened at the news, his arms wrapping around her even tighter than before. He pulled her close and rested his hesd sgainst hers, his hands rubbing at her back soothingly. He pulled back after a moment to look down at her, gently brushing her hair back from her face an the tears away from her eyes.

"I'm so sorry, Winnie. I wish I knew what to tell you," he murmured softly. "But you can stay here if you have to. The couch pulls out to a decently comfortable bed, you can take my bed. Until you have a place to stay, I'm here. And we can order in and watch movies and just forget about this whole mess, hm?" he asked. He pulled her against him once more, squeezing her close. "I'm here for you."

  • Winnie sniffling into his hold, her tears drying up slightly as he pulled her closer, and instead she just went slightly limp in his arms, her body exhausted and mind defeated. When he pulled away, she looked up with hurt eyes, nervous that he was abandoning her too, but then he was brushing her hair from her face and her cheeks just turned pink, and she cast her eyes down, embarrassed that he had to see her like this. "I'm sorry..." she whispered as she looked at him, apologizing for everything, though she wasn't evntirely sure what that all entailed.

She listened to all he said and, though he was wrong about some things- she still had the house, technically, and she's probably be able to keep the basement part where she'd been living- she just nodded and looked up at him. "Okay..." she whispered softly, looking at him for one mire second before pulling away on her own, not wanting to be excessively clingy, not that she could save herself at this point. "Thank you..." she added softly before trailing after him, feeling lost even in this world she knew so well.

  • Avan nodded softly, trailing inti the kitchen to start on hot cocoa for both of them. He looked over his shoulder snd smiled softly when he saw her trailing behind him. "Hot chocolate?" he asked, though he knew she woukd never decline the delicious beverage.

  • "Please," she confirmed softly, giving a little nod before resting against the doorway, unsure if she could come in or not. She felt like an intruder in his house, even though she'd been there a million times: for some reason, this time was different. Probably because she felt like an intruder everywhere. She felt like she had no home anymore. He was the closest she had, and he wasn't even a place.

When she had the drink in her hand and had taken a few sips, she looked up st him with the same pink blush before whispering, "I don't want you to give up your bed. I'll just sleep on the couch. I mean, this is your house..." She didn't want to put him out, didn't want to make him uncomfortable. And the problem with knowing him so well was knowing that he wouldn't tell her if he was uncomfortable, so long as she was happy.

  • Avan handed her the bot chocolate, looking up at her when she spoke. He frowned and shook his head. "No, come on. My bed's really comfortable and you deserve a good night's sleep. Please Winnie?" he asked, shooting her a pair of wide eyes.

  • When Winnie looked up and saw his puppy dog eyes, her heart practically melted, and a small smile flickered across her tearstained face. Good to know some things never change... she thought before submitting and giving a small nod. "I don't know if I have much of a choice..." she murmured teasingly before giving another smile and nodding again. "Thank you, Avan. Really." She added softly.

"I don't know what I'd do without you." She finished before quickly hiding her face with her mug, taking a long sip of the scalding hot chocolate, hoping the steam would hide her blush. And, sure, the hot chocolate was burning her mouth like there was no tomorrow, but it was a whole lot better than fessing up to that comment.

  • Winnie looked up at his comment, giving a relieved smile that he didn't say anything about her comment, nodding a moment later. "Yeah. Sure. Movie would be good..." she murmured softly before biting her lip and smiling softly. "Do you still have ____? Because you know that's my favorite. And it won't make me cry. Again. I think I've done enough crying for one day." She finished softly, slowly walking towards his living room, sitting herself down on the couch only when he was there too.

OOC: be back in about an hour!

  • Avan smiled softly, nodding. "I do!" He shuffled after her and sat his mug down on the coffee table, searching through the cabinet by the tv for the movie she loved so much. When he finally found it, he grinned and immediately popped it in. Then, he moved over and sat next to her, propping his feet up on the table. "I love this movie. Good choice, Win..."

  • "Of course it's a good choice. It's a classic." she murmured, snuggling into him after just a second, moving only so that she could grab a blanket from behind them and drape it over their legs. The second the movie started, she gave a happy little hum and took another sip of her hot chocolate, watching the screen over the rim of the mug.

-do do do, skip until the end-

It was only the fact that Winnie had seen the movie so many times over that she knew the movie had ended- she had long since closed her eyes, and it was only the soundtrack that told her the credits were rolling. Sleepily, she blinked open her eyes and slowly pulled herself away from Avan, blushing when she saw that he was looking down at her. She was sure her face was covered with lines from where she'd practically fallen asleep against the seams of his shirt, and she knew she had a tendency to drool a little. And, so, her face turned that same rosy red as before.

"Sorry." she apologized again, unsure, just like before, of what exactly she was apologizing for, but it just felt right. She looked at him for a long second before yawning and resting her head against the edge of the couch, wishing she could rest on him again, but that was out of the question. "You sure I can't convince you to take the bed?" she asked after a second, rubbing her eyes, though she was still just as sleepy afterwards as she had been before.

  • Avan smiled softly as he gently rubbed her back. He didn't mind her closeness at all. In fact, he loved it. When he delt her stir, he glanced downnat her with a sleepy smile and hummed. When she pulled away, he pouted the tiniest. it and watched her. He shook his head, stretching.

"Nope. I might join if we snuggle more, but otherwise I'l be out here," he teased. He shot her a soft smile, ready to see if she would take it as a joke or would invite him to cuddle her. He wanted to snuggle her more, for sure.

  • 'In your dreams, bucko..." she murmured sleepily, rolling her eyes at his taunt before looking at him and smirking, though the look was finished with half-lidded eyes and a yawn. "I'm not giving you any chance to tell people that we.... that we slept together." she breathed in between yawns before getting off the couch altogether and smiling down at him for a second before crossing her arms over her chest and smiling.

"Besides. You'll probably be happier out here. I think I'm just going to hide in there and cry for another hour or two. Not something you're going to want to share in." she finished before kissing his forehead and, when she pulled away from the touch, looking at him for a long second, her eyes sincere as she whispered, "Thank you, Avan. Really. I don't know what I would have done without you..." And then, with that, she turned around and retreated into his room, trying not to think too much about how the whole place smelled like him.

  • Avan laughed softly at her words, watching with sleepy eyes as she got up. When she mentioned crying, he frowned slightly, only brightening when she kissed his forehead. "Good night, Win..." he murmured in response, smiling the timiest bit. He moved to sgand and pull the bed out, then froze. He bit his lip and got up, moving towards his room.

He gently nudged the door open and looked at her. A broad grin fell over his face when he saw her laid out on his bed. "Hey, you sure you're going to be okay? I don't want you going to sleep upset..." he admitted softly.

  • Winnie started when she heard the door opening, looking up at him with a scared look for just a second before realizing it was just him, bushing at his words. She slowly lowered the pillow she'd been holding to her chest and then wiped her eyes, embarrassed that he caught her actually following through with what she had hoped he'd interpret as a taunt, nodding at him a moment later.

"Yeah." she whispered softly, giving another little nod before wiping away the tears that had sprung back to her eyes, though this time it was because he was so caring, and so considerate, and she'd done nothing to deserve him as a friend. After a second of just sitting there and nodding, she gave a little sort and shook her head. "Yeah. I'll be fine.." she whispered softly, looking at him with a tiny smile, hoping that'd be enough to sell it.

ooc: I don't know if you're trying to get her to invite him to stay but I was thinking she creeps out of her room after they go to bed and moves so that she can be with him on the couch? So she doesn't have to be alone?

  • Avan nodded, not wanting to push her, then turned away. "Good night," he murmured softly. With that, ge left the room and began to pull the couch-bed out.

ooc: okay that's fine. I wasn't sure how we were doing it :-)

  • Winnie thought she'd go straight to bed. Usually a good cry did that for her- she poured out all her feelings, as well as all her energy, and passed out. But this time was different. Instead of finally sleeping and getting a well-welcomed relief from all her misery and feelings of worthlessness, she sat there in the bed, completely alone, in an unfamiliar room that, sure, smelled like her best friend ever, but it still wasn't hers. She was all by herself, just like she'd been left.

After a second, she rolled over and flicked her phone on, cursing under her breath when she saw that she'd spent nearly two hours twisting around in the bed, ruining the sheets and getting less than no rest. She bit her lip for a second before slipping out of the bed and ducking out of the room, not a single emotion of nervousness or desire in her. she was emotionless as she moved into the living room and slowly crawled on to the couch, her ragged teddy bear in her arms as she did.

And with that, with no celebration or words or anything, she ducked into his arms and breathed a tiny sigh of relief, exhaustion washing over her, and she drifted off moments later, curled up in his arms, her hand wrapped around her precious bear.
