  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]The night was a blur. Agreeing to go to the party, getting drunk, going home, fighting, crashing, dying. He remembered it all, more or less but it was blurry, almost like someone else's memories. Maybe they were - his name was Micheal, right? It was supposed to be, anyway, but it wasn't. It was Ryan. Or maybe it was the other way around, his name was Ryan but it was meant to be Micheal. Ugh, it was all making his brain hurt. He wasn't Micheal, not anymore. He knew the truth about who he was, and now he'd heard the truth about what happened to her, too.

He was soaking wet which... honestly wasn't how he'd imagined this moment (and he'd imagined it a lot). He shook himself out, saltwater splattering on the otherwise dry sand. He sat down, rubbing his eyes and composing himself. This was it. "Hey, anyone know someone named Lucy Lykke? The name's Ryan." He called, looking around and praying she really was here. And that she'd forgive him.

Mokou hadn't understood that there was no way to bring Lucy back. She'd wanted to, which was sweet but... it just couldn't happen. Sel just couldn't go back. Ever. She was more than happy to leave Lucy and Ryan and Jess and everyone else behind. She didn't want to go back to that, to the brokenness of her life, no matter how much she'd cared about her mother and her best friend and even... even her boyfriend.

Even if she wanted to, she couldn't. Lucy was dead, who knew what happened to Ryan and all the rest. Only a hand full of people even knew about Lucy and that was only because of her amnesia. She'd be more than happy to tell those people that Lucy was fucking dead and that there was no bringing her back.

Maybe he'd lived. Maybe he'd been in a coma. Maybe he'd died. Sel couldn't say she cared. She never thought she'd see him on her border, asking about her. "Ryan..." Normally she was composed, everything controlled, no word, emotion, no nothing escaped her unless she wanted to. Except for now. The world felt like it was spinning. He was here, he was looking for her. She knew what he'd want but there was no way she was going to give in. I'm stronger than Lucy. I'm stronger thank Lucy. "She's dead. You should leave." She said, regaining some control. Not all of it, but a little.

  • For once, Terra was where she probably wasn't meant to be. She had spotted the stranger, and slunk back as soon as Sel appeared. Terra wasn't sure if they could see her or not, and didn't care too much. She kept her distance, ears perked originally.
She studied the pair, ears only flattening when she heard about death. Were they talking about her parents, or siblings? No, it didn't seem so. She didn't know anyone by the name of Lucy, and none of her siblings names started with a "L". Her mother's did, but she was positive she was named after a flower of some sort, or maybe a food. Lemon, she was pretty sure.
Her head cocked a bit, wanting to know what happened. But the tone and feel of the pair made Terra realized that now was far from the time to ask. She wanted to slink away, and leave them be. But at this point, she was sure she would be noticed if she tried to leave. So she remained where she was, lowering her body to the earth.

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]He'd give anything to go back, honestly. Their life hadn't been perfect but they'd had each other and that had been enough. It'd been enough for both of them. He was determined to get it back, even if they couldn't go back to their past life, maybe they could rebuild it here.

Another feline approached him, a female around his age. She was looking at him like she was seeing a ghost. Maybe she was. She said his name with familiarity, like she knew the name. This is her. It has to be her. Who else would look at him like that? Besides, she had Lucy's eyes. "Lucy?" He asked, a shocked look appearing on his face as she said that Lucy was dead. No, she can't be. She can't be dead. Ryan shook his head. "No, she can't be." She had died, yes, they both had. She had to be alive now though, she had to be.

She was asking him to leave, but no way he could do that. "No, you can't just make me leave. I know how this works - I'm here to join." Before he recovered his memories, he'd been around to some Clans. He knew how Clanlife worked, he knew that you couldn't deny joiners unless they posed a threat. His gaze flicked back to the gray kit who was crouching a distance away. He was fine if she stayed back, more than fine really. The idea of kids being around here wasn't one he liked, but if Lucy was here he'd put up with it.

As he said her former name, Sel shook her head almost violently. "No. I'm not her, I'm not. She's dead." Insistence and desperation edged her voice, things seldom heard from the Captain. "Lucy is dead." She had to be. Sel couldn't go back to that, she was pathetic and weak and let herself fall into Ryan's trap and by the time he realized what it was it was too late and she couldn't bring herself to leave. "I can do whatever I damn well please." She growled, edging back away from Ryan and shifting so she blocked Terra. Just in case. She couldn't do this. She wasn't ready, she'd never be ready.

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]For a second his heart sank. Was Lucy really dead? She must have been here, but then... something happened. But this person was too insistent, just as he'd known would be a possibility. "How did she die?" He asked, taking in every detail of the siamese before him. She even moved like Lucy had, and the faint panic in her voice and eyes was familiar too.

//my muse crashed and burned rip

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]Nico didn't know what was happening; he didn't know the captain's history, or who this man was, but he did see genuine desperation and.. Was that a hint of fear in Sel's eyes? That was more then enough to rile the tom up. If there was anything he despised, it was other toms taking advantage of the people around them; the thought of Sel's reasons to be afraid of this man... Gods, he was getting himself really angry now.

Nico walked up and aimed to roughly push in between Ryan and Sel, his stance defensive; though even then, he wasn't the most intimidating figure. True, he was strong enough to fight off some of the unseen beasts in the forests, but compared to the gigantic stature of Ryan he looked like an adolescent.

"I'm sure the captain wouldn't mind telling you, but could you please step back?" He asked, trying to be kind and resolve the whole situation diplomatically. Ryan was right though, they couldn't exactly turn him away without a reason.

    //babe get Kodiak in here

Her mouth was dry. She was normally a good liar but right now she had nothing, not a "killed by enemies" or anything. "She...
    died in a car crash."
It was an admission, really. To lying, that she had nothing, that he'd found her. The world felt like it was spinning. She needed something - anything. Without really thinking about it she conjured a cigarette and lighter, quickly setting the tip ablaze and putting it in her mouth.

She didn't notice Nico's approach until he was placing himself in front of her. Part of her was grateful but the rest of her wanted him out of the way. He was just painting a target on his head that he really didn't need. "I can deal with this, Nico." She snapped, not using the nickname she'd given him like she normally would. Her eyes and voice were hard now - she'd given up on pretending and she was just going to have to deal with this head on. She couldn't be a meek little flower like Lucy had been for this - she had to be strong and tough.

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]Ryan couldn't help but bristle as another male shoved in between him and Lucy. "And who the fuck are you?" He demanded harshly, glaring at Nico. Probably not a boyfriend since he didn't seem like the type she'd go for, but then again he was acting awfully protective of her. His gaze moved back to the siamese as she said that Lucy had died in a car crash. So she was lying, Lucy really was still alive. He tried to shoulder past Nico, trying to get closer to her. "Lucy - please. I'm sorry for everything. I can't tell you how sorry I am." He didn't much like spilling his guts in front of so many people but this might be the only chance he got. "I love you."

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]Nico pressed his ears back as Ryan bristled, and his claws slid out of their sheaths instinctively. Sel responded to Ryan's question, that this Lucy person had died on a car crash, and that she could handle it. Nico didn't quite believe her; the way she'd shielded Terra, and the wavering emotion in her voice before, it meant that whoever this man was he didn't mean well.

"I'm her apprentice." Nico said as he tried to push back against Ryan when the tom tried to shoulder past him. "I'm sorry sir, but this woman isn't named Lucy; I think you should leave." Nico responded; he didn't know Sel to go by any other name then, well, Sel. Whoever this Lucy girl was, she wasn't here.

Nico knew he was going to piss off Sel by not backing down, but he didn't trust this man and he wasn't going to let him any closer to Sel then absolutely necessary. If this came down to a physical confrontation, he'd rather get hurt then let Sel get herself hurt.

  • [center]

She felt a flare of irritation rise up as Ryan demanded rather rudely to know who Nico was. He'd always been so jealous and possessive of her - getting riled up over anyone getting close to her in his absence unless he knew for a fact nothing would happen. Before she could say anything, Nico was responding. Well, the question had been addressed to him.

She stared at Ryan for a long time when he apologized and said he loved her. How many times had she heard that and believed it? How many times had she accepted it - even apologized for provoking it - and said she loved him too? Far, far too many. "It's too late for that." She said, keeping her voice strong. If there was any hint of weakness he'd destroy her, just as he had when she'd lied about not being Lucy. "It is far, far too late. I stopped loving you a long time ago... Stopped believing you loved me even before that." Looking at him she felt anger, hurt, fear... but nothing so warm as love.

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]When Nico tried to stop him, Ryan attempted to shove him with his shoulder, no longer caring if this guy got hurt from it. Not that he really did in the first place. "Her apprentice? Really?" He looked too old to be Lucy's apprentice, if anything it seemed more likely that this guy was her former mentor. But what the hell did he know about Lucy's life here? Depressingly little. "Whatever name she gave you is a lie - her name is Lucy, and I don't have to listen to you."

His gaze went back to Lucy as she opened her mouth to reply, shock running through him as she said it was too late. No! It can't be too late. There has to still be a chance. He shook his head. "Lucy, please. I'm being honest - I love you more than anything else, I want us to be together. We can still be together, we can still get married and have a life. What happened before... it's never going to happen again." Silently he begged her to believe him, to take him back. He knew she would - how could she not? - as she'd forgiven him every single time and been looking forward to their life together as much as he had been. Just because they died, that didn't mean it had to end, right?

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]Nico pulled in a sharp breath and bit his tongue as Ryan shoved him to the side. He was tempted to slice into Ryan, just for a second.. No, he had to get a handle on himself. He looked at Sel, relieved that the strength in her voice had returned in full force. This was the captain he knew; strong, stubborn, and unwilling to take shit from anybody.

He was more then surprised when Sel said she was Lucy; did that mean she was some sort of reincarnation? Because clearly Sel had never gone by this name before, he would've heard about that.. Right? He would've found out sooner or later. He scrunched up his nose at the desperation in Ryan's voice, his eyes going cold.

"Step back." Nico snapped, his fur bristling. Whatever this man wanted, Sel wanted none of it, and that was more then enough reason for Nico to let it show how riled up he was. "My mentor's made herself more than clear, she wants no part in you. Now please excuse yourself and leave before I must escort you out on a stretcher." Nico snarled. Anger coursed through him at Ryan's arrogance, his lack of tact and his rudeness. He made sure to emphasize how he was Sel's apprentice, since this man apparently didn't understand; true, he was older then Sel, but that didn't mean he couldn't learn from her.

So many times. It had worked so, so many times. His voice poured over her, arms wrapped around her and she was his again as his lips met her skin. She closed her eyes, vividly remembering the heat - of her anger and her love after the cool relief of forgiveness. She could almost feel the coolness too, but it wasn't a memory. Her eyes snapped open and she shoved the unwanted negatives down and the even more unwanted positives down. It'd be easy to fall back into his embrace and damn near impossible to get back up again because he'd hold her there. And she'd be ok in his embrace. She strengthened her resolve. That was what was easy, but it wasn't what she wanted. "Eat a dick." She said, enunciating the words very clearly and meeting her ex's gaze evenly.

Her gaze shifted towards Nico, as if remembering that she'd told him to stand down and realizing that he had not. It was sort of sweet but it was yet another thing that she didn't want. Ryan would never listen to him. Punch him yes, but not listen. Sel was the only one that had any kind of chance of getting through to him and even then she wasn't entirely sure it was possible. Certainly not while another male stood there and tried to fight her battle with her. "Nico," she said softly, "what did I say earlier?"

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]"No, you should step back." Ryan snarled, attempting to roughly shove Nico away and turning on him, fury in his dark blue eyes. "Because if you don't, it's gonna be you in need of a stretcher." Who the fuck did this guy think he was? Certainly not someone who new how to choose his battles. He had nothing to do with this - even Lucy had said so - yet here he was, acting all tough like he could do something if it came to fisticuffs. Well, claws to forearms might be a bit more accurate, since they were cats.

He looked back towards Lucy and he knew he was winning. He could see it in every detail of her face, the way she closed her eyes and the small movements of her lips. Then she opened her eyes. "Eat a dick." She was meeting his gaze, no sign of weakness in her blue eyes. "Lucy..." He said, stepping towards her.

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]A low growl rumbled in his chest, and he bared his teeth at the tom. He opened his mouth to snap back at Ryan's threats, when Sel's voice caught his attention. He pressed his ears back, not out of embarrassment but apology. He stepped back, his haunches still raised and his fur bristling. He tore at the dirt underneath him with his claws in anger.

"Sorry, captain." He said, while completely ignoring Ryan. He was no longer in between them, so whatever happened he wouldn't be there to block it; he hated stepping back from this tom, but Sel seemed to be in the state of mind to handle it now. He ground his teeth together and decided that if Sel didn't take care of Ryan now, he'd be pleased to do it later when she wasn't around to hold him back.

  • [center]

She barred her teeth as Ryan went after Nico, taking a step forward. "Leave him alone!" He did not get to fuck with her Clanmates, or anyone. As Ryan stepped closer to her she conjured her cutlass and pointed the tip at his neck. "If you touch me or hurt my Clanmates, I will fucking kill you." She growled, making it very clear in her expression and tone that she wouldn't hesitate.
