The Great Hall is one of the most impressive places in Hogwarts. With a ceiling that reflects the sky above, and grand tables filled with all kinds of foods during meals, it isn't hard to see why. But even that pales in comparison to the Hall on the Start-of-Term Feast. Thousands of glowing candles float in the air, lighting up the room.
River looked around her. Second to seventh years. Now, they were waiting to see just who was going to be joining their house. Like always, she had her familiar with her, though she had him hidden under her main robes. Across the room, she could see her brother, in his yellow robes, surrounded by girls, like always. She didn't even try to get his attention. It would be useless in this commotion. Everyone was talking over the others, making it so loud that River could barely hear herself think. But she didn't mind to much.
Unlike the others at the Gryfindor table, who were talking about Quittich, new House members, classes they were taking this year, and the like, Kenji sat quietly, fiddling with his necklace. His sister should have been here with him. He found it hard to really even want to be here. Not without Ivy. Of course, she had been a Ravenclaw, but still. He would have been sitting back to back to her, like they had all last year.
