Irish lore is filled with tales of fairies, whether they depict them as good or bad. The lore almost overlooks the less desirable creatures. The ones that prowl the streets, bringing death and havoc. Vampires, creatures of the night.
(originally and primarily a vampire based roleplay, now accepting other species as well)
Roleplay Thread: Here
1.) This roleplay is literate which means I will expect at least one well written paragraph and proper grammar.
2.) This roleplay is also semi-realistic. Yes, this is a fantasy roleplay about vampires but you cannot have unrealistically overpowered characters or supernatural oddities that seem near impossible to actually exist in the human world. Vampires are also NOT magic, and though they are immortal they can be killed if beheaded.
3.) Do not power play! This is a big one. I cannot stand when people power play. Along with this, the usual rule, do not kill other people's characters without permission.
4.) Blood, gore, swearing, and drug/alcohol use is allowed however sexual content is not. Make out scenes are fine.
5.) Do not flood or spam the roleplay chat.
6.) Keep your IC posts in past tense and third person point of view.
Ireland Bites takes place in no other than Ireland itself. It is a 21st century, modern day roleplay but previous time periods may be referenced. Being immortal it is expected that many of the characters will have been around for a couple decades or longer. This being so I expect everyone to be able to depict their characters as so. As we all know our language has changed extensively over the years and we have lost a certain modesty that other time periods lack. Characters of older origin will most likely speak and dress as though they were from an older time, though they can certainly be adapted to modern life.
The central location for IB will be Dublin, as it is Ireland's capital but you are welcome to have your character anywhere within the country. Real places will be referenced, and I expect you to have some knowledge of the setting but you are in no way required to know every detail. Being fantasy this roleplay can also be classified as fiction, and fictional places may also be referenced and used in the roleplay.
**Note: I am in no way a Historian or an expert on Ireland or it's lore. All information within this blog had been collected from outside sources or changed by my imagination. Ireland Bites is a fantasy and fiction roleplay, making this information fiction as well. Lore, after all, is only a collection of well thought out stories.
Vampire folklore within the British Isles is surprisingly scarce. In fact the image of vampires as we know them is relatively recent, having been portrayed in film productions around the 1960s. The word vampire was not a part of English language until 1732, it's image developing in fictional works. The real roots of the vampire are based on a mixture of early beliefs and folklore concerning death, the dead and disease.
Irish folklore had very little to say about vampires, and even then the lore is tied to fairies. The Leanhaum-shee is an Irish vampire fairy that engaged in vampiric activities by using her beauty to lure men. This was later falsified and claimednto be the works of someones imagination and not part of Irish lore. There was also a story of a priest returning from the dead as a pale, red eyed creature with fangs. Other than that the stories are very minimal to none.
It's common knowledge that vampires sport fangs in which they can use to suck blood from their victims. Due to this their eyes are usually a bright crimson red though can vary in shades of red to black.
Being immortal they are also very difficult to kill. They're skin is like smooth marble and very hard to break. The only way to kill one would be to decapitate them, but their heightened senses and superhuman speed and strength make them difficult to catch. The common myth states that exposure to sunlight causes vampires to burn. This is actually false. Having better eyesight also means that more light can be let into a vampires eyes. This may cause head aches, distorted images but nothing fatal.
If a human is bitten but not killed then they will go through the painful process of becoming a vampire them self. This process can take anywhere from 24 hours to 4 or 5 days. After turned a newly born vampire will experience an extreme thirst and desire to feed. They have no self control and if set loose around human can be very dangerous. Over a large amount of time(usually several hundred years) a vampire can gain self control and be able to be around humans without going into a frenzy. Newer vampires have brighter eyes than older ones.
Even though this is primarily a vampire roleplay other species and supernatural beings will be permitted. Slowly more and more will be added but here is the current list of allowed species (excluding vampires):
- Werewolves
Werewolves are either born with the ability to shift into a wolf, bitten by a full bred species, or created by magical means. Werewolves who are born must have at least one parent with the ability, if both parents are werewolves it is more likely that the offspring will experience their first 'shift' sooner than later. Werewolves created by magical means were either cursed, given a potion, enchanted, and so on. Even though Werewolves are supernatural beings they are not immortal and are subject to the usual aging cycle of humans.
Born Werewolves are more lucid, meaning they are more aware of what is happening, during their changes/shifts. The same can be said for wolves created from magic, though there may be varying benefits or detriments depending on the type of spell or such. Bitten wolves, since they were directly affected from a true blood werewolf, are more feral until they learn to control themselves. Bitten are also more likely to shift without a full moon as they are the most affected by various triggers. Any wolf can shift without a full moon if they gain that sort of self control, or if something sets them off such as primal emotions or anything that may cause epileptic activity. Magically created wolf's are most likely not affected by these triggers, but as previously mentioned in depends on who created them and for what purpose.
Like vampires, werewolves have heightened senses; increased strength, speed, stamina; and they have an increased healing ability; but they are not immune to injury such as vampires. They can be killed in almost any way one may kill a normal person, just with a bit more effort. They have an extreme weakness to silver and if they come in contact with any form of the ore they place in contact will burn. One plus about werewolves is that their blood is almost always fatal to a vampire upon consumption or if directly injected into a vampires vein.
