  • The sea. The water below, sparkling, waves crashing, gulls crying, the tang of salt in your nose. How she had missed this! It had been so long - months, years maybe? It might have even been a day, but did she care? No.

Wingbeats were audible over the whoosh of the winds, a silhouette visible against the creamy color of the dawn sky as a rose pigment washed over the horizon. Noelani hummed to herself as she flew aimlessly, curious bird-like claws fiddling with a music box she had found on the beach, picking it apart and putting the shiny parts in a bag around her wrist, while the rest were thrown into the sea. Round gold eyes peered from her head, beak-like maw clicking as she hummed, mimicking the sound of the dismantled machine. She wasn't humming anything in particular, really, instead just making noise to pass the time as she busied herself. Soon enough, all she had in her talons was the empty outer box, which she also put in her bag. The creature blinked, staring at the grey-green smudges in the distance. "Islands!" She cried, serpentine feather-ended tail wagging behind her. "Ooh, I wonder what I can get there! Food, blankets, shiny things to break! Yes yes yes, I am certainly going over there, yes!" The creature chirped to herself, cheerfully beating her wings faster to approach the islands, excitement in every feather.

The turrets of a castle rose above the pine forest that surrounded it, scaffolding supporting the brilliant white stone. The avian's curious eyes studied the structure with a sort of systematic calculation that could only belong to someone who was interested in the shiny flecks in the castle's walls. Noelani flew close, scraping at one brick, leaning back to study the dust on her claws. "Interesting!" She squawked. "Shiny rocks piled together makes a shiny castle. Shiny is good, so the castle must be good! Good castle!" The creature appraised, patting the wall. Angling her wings to catch the wind, Noelani flapped erratically to hover above the slim bridge to the stony structure. She frowned at it, and instead flew right up to the open gates. "Good gates! Good metal!" The birdbrain cried.

She sat herself down right there, thin pink tongue flickering out to taste the air as she rooted through her bag of shiny objects. "Noelani is my name, shiny things are my game! I saw your shiny castle, and I can smell you, so I want to stay here!"

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]This one had a bit of an unusual speech pattern, but she got the point across well enough. "Welcome to the Rift then, Noelani." He greeted as he moved towards the strange creature. He might not have seen many animals, but she was unlike anything he'd ever witnessed. "My name is Grayarea, call me whatever you'd like."

//welcome to the Rift and rip couldn't match muse

  • Noelani craned her feathered neck to peer at Greyarea, clacking her talons together thoughtfully. "Good! Thank you!" She clicked out, running one claw through her bag that was tethered to her ankle, making it emit a few clinking, rustling sounds. "Rift. A rift is a space between two objects; a crack; a divide." Her speech pattern changed just a bit there, but she hummed to herself and soon she was back to normal. She must have picked it up somewhere, but she didn't care to remember. "Rift is good. Greyarea; good. Can I call you Grey?"

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]"You're welcome." He said, gaze going down to her bag and wondering what was inside. "Indeed." Her speech pattern shifted a bit, and he wondered what it meant, if her oddness would end. He was gonna go out on a limb and say no. "Most people do. Would you like a tour?"

  • Noelani cocked her head to the side a bit, tying her bag shut and then looking back at Grey. "Tour? Yes, yes, tours are nice. Nice! Better word than "good"." She babbled, but smiled childishly. "Is the rest of the Rift nice like castle?" The creature inquired, gesturing with her claws at the flecks in the white stone. "Castle is sparkly - hope there will be more sparkly." The avian creature opened her bag again and pulled out the now-empty shell of the music box she had just pulled apart, demonstrating the little plastic gems glued to the case. "Sparkly and shiny are good. Good and nice."

[fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 75%; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%]Now here was someone perky, energetic. With a speech impediment? Eh, what did it matter. "Hello. I'm Ms. O, the leader here. Welcome to the Rift, Noelani." A pretty name too. The vixen liked this girl.

  • The creature then leaned her head back, twisted her neck to peer at Ms. O in what looked painful, but with a long neck it didn't really bother her. "Leader?" Noelani repeated, a knowing look crossing her features as she turned to face Ms. O. "Honor to meet Ms. O. Nice group - very nice! Good, nice castle, nice people." She chirped appreciatively, drumming her claws together with an excited look. "I knew a leader! Not Ms. O, different, much more... less shiny." She screwed up her snout a bit, matching the expression of someone who had swallowed a whole lemon.

[fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 75%; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%]Shiny? Did this girl have an affiliation with shiny things? Well her name did rhyme with the word, a little. "Was it Agent Oprah? A Grey wolf?" SHE inquired, out of curiosity. Maybe this hybrid knew her.

  • Noelani cocked her head to the side, looking around at the castle walls as if she would rather be studying them than talking, but it was rude to leave a conversation. "No, no Oprah. Name was... j-something? Don't know - very long time ago. In SunClan. Used to live there! Very sunny, lots of shiny things, and had forge! I love forge. Warm, easy to work. Fire! Fire is good." Noelani babbled, shifting around in her bag to pull out a puzzle ball and working on it as she spoke, using surprisingly deft talons to twist it and match the colors. "Forge in Rift?" She asked, suddenly very excited. Ah, yes, her forge! She missed it often - it had taken a while to make, and to get an anvil, but she had loved it. She frowned down at the puzzle ball clutched before her - aw, it was no fun when they were solved so quickly.

[fancypost=border-width:0px; width: 75%; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 125%]She blinked. Oh. No Oprah. "Well...we do have a fireplace. I suppose as long as you don't destroy the castle...you can forge."

YOU CAN'T WAKE UP, THIS IS NOT A DREAM – cainsmark pendragon grimm
YOU'RE PART OF A MACHINE, YOU ARE NOT A HUMAN BEING.

It seemed this newcomer had pinpointed exactly what Cain was going for when he had renamed TidalClan as The Rift: they were meant to be the divide between the antis and pros, the good and evil. It was nice, knowing that someone heard their name and guessed exactly what it stood for. "Welcome," he greeted as he joined them, eyeing the bird with interest before adding, "I'm Cainsmark. What do you forge?"

KING OF THE DREAM REALM. SON OF SET. WEIGHER OF HEARTS.

  • Noelani beamed at Ms. O's response, hurriedly patting down the plume of feathers at the nape of her neck that had started to fluff out, as it did when she was excited or stressed - of course, she was the former. Before she could respond, though, Cainsmark had appeared and introduced himself, followed by a question. Noelani was silent a moment, then began to wave her talons around as she explained. "Weapons. Big. Spears, axes, swords - many. Big forge, big fire, many metals, good for making. Also puzzles! Cubes, things to keep hands busy." Noelani gestured to the puzzle ball she had just finished, and then looked around for something to demonstrate. There wasn't exactly anything she could use, yet, she she just made a broad gesture. "Make many things. Very easy when use fire in claws." Noelani chirped, putting down the puzzle ball and her bag of trinkets, demonstrating a little spark of fire when she rubbed her talons together. "Easier with coal. Much easier."

  • [center][fancypost=width: 500px; text-align: justify]SunClan, eh? When he and his mother parted ways, that's where she'd gone. He'd heard a bit about that place, but the only leader she'd spoken about was Phantom, his cousin. It made sense that Dia would only know Phan, seeing as that was her nephew and the one that led while she was there, but he had no idea who the one Noel was talking about was. "Yeah, the Rift is nice like the castle. I'd be happy to show you around, if you'd like." He perked up at the mention of weapons. He needed to get something so he wouldn't be so pitiful in fights, like with Ghoulian. "Do you reckon you could forge me something?"
