  • A smile edged it's way onto Death's face. "Yes. Very persistent indeed. I hesitant to think you'll all ever fully be extinct. You always find a way to survive don't you?" He said, noting how Evangeline didn't seem to fear or be disturbed by him. It...comforted him he supposed. He wasn't sure how to descibe his new emotions anymore. "We should rest before I start searching for my answers."

Evangeline nodded in agreement, going to the small hallway her apartment had. "You can use the room at the end of the hall." She offered, automatically giving him the master bedroom due to him being a guest and leaving herself with the bed her sisters had set up when they had started taking turns living with her so they didn't have to sleep on the couch.

  • "You may keep it. I don't think I need to sleep, I don't feel tired. Please take it, it's your home after all." Death replied, trying to keep a random thought of them sharing a bedroom out of his mind. The thought made him feel very strange. "I will guard the house while you sleep." He added, remembering that he had left those doctors alive.

Evangeline was surprised again, but was able to hide it better this time. "All right... Thank you." She wasn't sure why it made her feel safer knowing that he had said he was going to guard her apartment, she was fairly certain someone wasn't supposed to feel safe knowing Death was there while they were asleep but she was too tired to question herself and instead went to go and sleep. Evangeline was pleased to be back in her room after spending so much time in a hospital over the last few years.

  • The second Death heard Evangeline's bedroom door close he got to work. He checked and figured out how to lock every conceivable entrance or exit in the apartment. No one was getting in unless he allowed. He settled down in a comfortable chair in the living room area. He had no doubt now that sleep wasn't a requirement for him to function. He was glad he didn't need much of a rest, sleep would only slow him down from his work.

The red haired girl fell asleep soon after she entered her room, finding her bed far more comfortable than she had remembered it to be. Unfortunately, she didn't stay asleep long, the encounter with the surgeons having brought up bad memories that crept into her dreams. She woke up, sitting up straight in her bed as she struggled to remember where she was.

  • Death looked at Evangeline's bedroom door in confusion. He could've sworn he heard something in there... He slowly approached the door and quietly opened it. "Evangeline?" He whispered as he looked into the bedroom. He walked over to the bed when he noticed her awake. "I thought you were asleep." He said, concern written on his face as he spoke.

As she turned to see who was talking, she looked afraid for a moment before recognition crossed her face and she relaxed. "It's nothing... I just had a nightmare, it woke me up." She admitted, attempting to just shrug it off. She noticed the concern on his face, but she figured she was just tired and was making it up. Death couldn't actually be concerned for her, could he?

  • Death looked at Evangeline suspiciously. "It can't just be a nightmare. I won't let you pretend like you woke up for no reason. You were terrified by it weren't you?" He asked, seeing straight through her. He hated seeing his Evangeline scared or in distress. He had to help her, whether she would admit she needed help or not.

Evangeline glanced off to the side, too proud to admit that he was right. "Really, I'm fine." She murmured, running a hand absentmindedly through her hair before she glanced back at Death. She was a bit curious as to why he seemed so worried for her, despite why she had woken up. She had calmed down a bit since realising he was there.

  • Death sighed but nodded. "Fine. Then I will stay in here to watch over you as you sleep." He said, knowing Evangeline wouldn't admit to anything yet. He'd just have to make sure she slept soundly then. "I'll be here when you close your eyes now and wake up tomorrow." He said, sitting in a chair near the bed. He didn't even fully know why he was doing this for her.

Evangeline was too tired to question him, or to keep the confusion off her face. Instead, she hoped he hadn't seen in as she laid back down and sleep the rest of the night, waking up at a normal time the next morning. She hadn't expected Death to actually still be in her room when she woke up that morning.

  • Death was sitting in the chair almost in the same position as when Evangeline had fallen asleep. He had mostly been thinking and observing until he noticed Evangeline waking up. "Ah, good morning Evangeline. I'm glad to report that no one tried to attack us in your sleep." He said, smiling slightly as he spoke. He was glad that he had someone to talk to again. He'd already gotten used to companionship.

Evangeline yawned, covering her mouth with one hand as she looked to him while he spoke. "That's good, it would be a little difficult to explain a dead body to my neighbours." She spoke casually, clearly not fully awake yet. She stretched in an attempt to wake herself up more, before realising he was sitting where he had been when she fell asleep. "Did you really stay there the whole night?" She asked curiously.

  • Death seemed confused at her question. "Of course I did. It was the only way to ensure that nothing disturbed or harmed you while you were vulnerable. Where else would I be to keep you safe?" He replied, his eyes glowing gently as he spoke. "Besides, if I did kill anyone no one would ever find the corpse unless I wanted them to." He added as an afterthought. To be honest he needed a shovel to effectively hide anything though.

Evangeline looked a bit surprised at his answer and she shrugged slightly. "I don't know... I thought you'd go around the apartment a bit?" She asked more than said, looking as though she wasn't sure of how to answer to him wanting to keep her safe. She hadn't really expected it when she had decided to make a deal with him.

  • "A good strategy I suppose. However someone could've entered and taken you while I wasn't in here." Death thought out loud as he stood up. "Regardless you must be hungry yes? What do you want for breakfast?" He asked, finally getting used to the idea of protecting someone. "Do you even eat breakfast anymore? You still need sleep so I assume you need food as well." He added, tapping his foot a bit as he thought.

Evangeline looked thoughtful for a moment, tilting her head to the side slightly. "I'm not sure what I want... It's been awhile since I ate a real meal." She admitted, going to stand. "But I'll go see what I have here, unless you wanted to go out?" She asked, pausing to see what he wanted to do before she left the room.

  • "I don't need to eat Evangeline. Any choice about food is all for you. I'm not even sure I can eat." Death said, getting up to follow Evangeline to the kitchen. "Although if we're here then there's absolutely no chance of getting poisoned." He added after a moment of thought. Wow, he was getting paranoid wasn't he?

Evangeline glanced at him as he said there was no chance of getting poisoned here, but he wasn't wrong. "Well, if you can eat you're welcome to have some of whatever I make." She told him as she went to set everything up in the kitchen.
