"Now sir, we're just curious as to how this woman came back to life after being dead almost a day. Please just let us-" The surgeon was cut off when Death rushed forward and lifted the man into the air by his neck with only one hand. "You have no idea what you have done puny mortal. I will not allow you to use my Evangeline as an experiment! I could snap your neck like a twig right this second!" Death growled, tightening his grip on the struggling man.

A bit of fear returned to Evangeline's face, although it wasn't due to Death. It came from the thought of being an experiment. When it had been clear that regular medicine wasn't doing anything to help her, her parents had agreed to give her experimental medicines and let doctors monitor what they did to her. She had hated it, and most of it had only made her condition worse.(c)trexgirl

"You don't-ack! Understand! This could help humanity as we know-!" The surgeon's eyes grew wide then closed as a loud snap echoed through the room. Death dropped the limp body and let it crumble on the ground. He was prepared to kill everyone in the d*mn building if he had to, or wanted to. The other doctors and surgeons huddled in a corner in fear. One was even crying in fear.

Evangeline flinched slightly and turned slightly. "We should leave before more come. I don't want..." Her voice trailed off as her gaze reached the equipment, the fear returning. It was a bit odd, that she didn't feel any fear towards Death. Even though she had made a deal with him and knew he wouldn't hurt her, normally seeing someone kill someone else would give anyone a small fear of them. But all of her fear was focused on being an experiment.(c)trexgirl

Death reluctantly nodded but he turned to the other doctors. "If I see any of you, or you anyone about us. You will die." He stated before turning around and heading out the door. He barely held himself back from slaughtering everyone in that room. Evangeline...calmed him for some reason. "Come, let's leave this place." He said, looking back at her over his shoulder as he spoke. No one would ever hurt his Evangeline.

Evangeline gave a small nod, leaving the room quickly without looking behind her, relaxing a bit as they got further away. "Thank you, for coming in to stop them." Her voice was soft, far different than it had been before, the only remaining sign of how much that had shaken her. She had no idea of how she was calming him, and she hadn't noticed him calling her 'his' earlier.(c)trexgirl

"I couldn't let them harm you. They would get no answers from their tests and they would keep trying until you died again. I refuse to let you suffer. They sickened me, so desperate for immortality." Death replied, walking next to Evangeline as they walked. He noticed a bright red EXIT sign pointing in the direction they were going. "I'm sorry I let them take you. I should've killed them at the start."

The girl just shook her head as they walked. "He said he was taking me to my family. There was no way to tell that they were going to..." Although she had gotten her voice to start out stronger than it had before, she trailed off. After seeing how he had reacted to them wanting to make her an experiment this time, she decided against telling him why it bothered her so much.(c)trexgirl

Death was silent for a minute. Back to her family... He silently sighed. "Evangeline, do you...wish to return to your family?" He asked softly, his eyes on the ground with a dull glow. "If you want to go find them, I will help you. That is a promise Evangeline. I will help you." He said, looking at her emotionlessly. If she wanted to stay with her family then he had to help her.

For the first time since she had turned around, Evangeline glanced over her shoulder. "No... not yet. I want to forget about that first. And I'll have to find a way to explain how I'm back if I was really dead for a whole day." She shuddered slightly as she looked behind her, but seemingly shook it off when she thought of how she was going to explain suddenly being back and no longer being ill.(c)trexgirl

Death nodded, glancing up at the glass doors that led outside of the hospital. "I understand. We need somewhere to go though. I may know a place but it is most likely long gone now. Do you have somewhere we can stay?" He asked curiously. He didn't want to put her on the spot but he had no idea what this world was like. He wasn't even sure what he was like anymore.

Evangeline nodded, looking around to get her bearings on which way to go. "Yeah, I didn't live with my parents I had an apartment. My sisters would take turns taking care of me while I was sick, but they wouldn't have had enough time to report my death to the office. We can stay there." She told him, starting off once she realised where she was. She only lived a few blocks away, so it made sense they took her to that hospital.(c)trexgirl

Death quickly followed Evangeline. He was a little excited more of this modern world. The electricity and metal boxes with wheels were already fascinating to him. "Excellent. A quiet place to settle is what we need." He said as he followed her. "Do you live alone? Are you betrothed?" He asked curiously, realizing he hadn't even considered that possibility. Another person important to Evangeline might be a problem in this situation.

Evangeline glanced over at him as he spoke, finding it interesting that he used the word 'betrothed'. "Oh, no. Just my sisters like I said before, but they won't be there anymore. So alone." She didn't seem bothered by him asking, or seem to mind that she lived alone unlike many people would now.(c)trexgirl

Death visibly relaxed, slightly confused as to why he did. Why should he care if Evangeline was happy with someone else? It shouldn't matter to him...yet it did somehow. "Good, no one will interfere with us then. Hopefully." He muttered the last word to himself as he walked. He hated this new uncertainty in his life.

Evangeline looked curious as to what someone living with her would interfere with, but she shrugged it off leading him to her apartment. When she reached it, she pulled the spare key out of one of the plants she had on the patio and unlocking the door and peeking in to make sure her family wasn't actually there. Satisfied they weren't, she held the door open for Death to go in.(c)trexgirl

Death walked in, muttering a thanks as he stepped past Evangeline. He looked around the apartment curiously. Times and styles had certainly changed since he had last been on the mortal plane. Seeing completely new things was interesting to him after so long of just watching souls float through his realm. "I like your style Evangeline." He said, looking back at her in the doorway.

Evangeline gave him a smile although she looked a bit surprised. "Thank you!" She stepped in, closing and locking the door behind her before looking around her apartment. It was cleaner than she remembered, but then again her sister had probably cleaned it while she had been in the hospital. "When was the last time you were in this world?" She asked curiously.(c)trexgirl

"1353 I believe. I left behind a disease to try and wipe out humanity. I still can't fathom how any of you survived it." Death replied, staring at the ceiling in thought. "After that failed attempt I decided to just wait until you all eventually expired or got rid of each other." He added after a moment. He honestly was surprised humanity still lived like normal.

"Well, we can be rather persistent." Evangeline told him, although her tone was light and her eyes showed her amusement. She couldn't imagine what it would be like to have last seen the world in the 1300s and then go to present day. Oddly enough, she didn't seem to care that he had attempted to wipe out humanity, but she just assumed it had to do with how she had already died once.(c)trexgirl
