  • "Only a week and a half so far. You were awfully sick when you came in dear." The nurse replied, her smile growing a bit somber. "Your family stayed with you everyday while you were asleep." She added, heading back to the door. "I'll go get the doctor!" She said as the door closed behind her.

Death sighed in relief as he exited the bathroom. "We are both lucky they didn't know you passed. However we are still in a precarious situation Evangeline. I need a way out of here without being noticed." He said, looking around for some method of escape besides the door.

Evangeline looked surprised at how long she had been in the hospital this time with how little she recognised it. But she returned her attention to Death and nodded slowly. "You don't look nearly human enough to be seen by anyone here, and my family would question you being in here with me anyways." She agreed, looking to see if there was any way out besides the door. She had a window, but it was sealed shut.

  • "Indeed, maybe I can sneak out while no one is looking?" Death thought out loud, his hand cupping his chin as he spoke. "Then we might not be able to each other though. Hmmm." He looked out the small window that was on the door. The hallway outside seemed clear but he didn't know where he could go. "If I leave then I suppose I could follow you out of this place." He thought suddenly, a smile worming its way onto his face as his eyes brightened. That strategy would have to do for now.

Evangeline nodded slightly, a bit of surprise flashing through her eyes as he smiled. "Hopefully they let me out soon now that I'm not sick." She thought aloud, looking around the hospital room again quickly before returning her attention to Death. She was still wondering what it was he would be having her do once she was out.

  • "Yes, that is the key part of my plan." Death then noticed the nurse coming down the hall with what he guessed was a doctor in tow. "Let's hope this works." He muttered as he ran back into the bathroom.

The door opened and the doctor walked in. He smiled as he walked over to Evangeline. "It's good to see you awake today Miss Evangeline. I'm Doctor Carmiechal." He said, looking over the clipboard in his hand. "Tell me, how are you feeling today?"

Once again, Evangeline had been watching the bathroom when they entered. "What? Oh I feel fine. Better than.... before I got here I guess." She told them, hoping they'd let her out soon.

  • "Good! Since all your tests came back fine you're cleared to leave. Here are some clothes so when you're done dressing with me and I'll take you to your family to fill out the release form." The doctor said, setting a pile of clothes on the end of Evangeline's bed. "I'll be waiting outside." He said as he left the room.

"This is good. With you cleared to leave we can get out of here easily!" Death said, leaving the bathroom. "This plan is going better than I expected." He muttered to himself.

Evangeline nodded in agreement as she took the clothes and walked past Death to go and change. "I was worried they would think there was something wrong with the tests. Especially with how long I had been sick." She spoke lightly, but even in the way she walked it was clear to see how the sickness had taken a toll on her body.

  • "I had similar concerns. I do not wish to be stuck here too long. I have work to do." Death said, leaning on the wall next the door. He needed to learn about this new world quickly. Maybe he could get Evangeline to help with that. (A bit rushed)

Evangeline looked confused as she began to change into the clothes the doctor had brought her. "What work do you have to do?" Now that she had gotten what she wanted, she was more curious about Death, especially since he was talking to her.

  • "Learn about this modern world first of all, then learn what I am and why I am it. My appearance is a side effect of your soul. I'm curious as to why." Death explained, glancing out the door window to check for any people. "Also keeping an eye on you. If you die I might be pulled back to my world with you." He added as an afterthought.

The girl nodded slowly as she went to sit back on the hospital bed once she was changed. "So you don't normally look like this in this world?" She asked curiously, not fully realising he needed her to be in this world. "I hadn't even thought of dying again... well besides being sick I haven't had any real near death experiences so we should be pretty good there." She said lightly, almost as though she was joking.

  • Death held back a chuckle but couldn't resist a small smile. "No I've never been like this here. Then again I've never merged with a piece of a soul before." He replied, observing the way his hand moved again for a second. "You should go ahead with the doctor, I will follow you discretely and meet you when you're alone." He said, moving away from the door.

Evangeline allowed a small smile to play across her lips when she saw that she had gotten him to smile, but it was gone once he surprised her by saying he had never merged with a soul before. Using the wall and door as a bit of a crutch, Evangeline left the room with a quick glance back at Death.

  • (I just had an amazing plot idea!)

The Doctor smiled at Evangeline and slowly started walking down the hallway. "Come, your family is waiting for you." He said encouragingly. "They've been worried sick since you arrived, we barely managed to keep them from your room."

Death glanced out the door before slowly and silently following Evangeline and the Doctor down the hall. Something wasn't right here. He could sense it, there was something wrong.

Evangeline had a small smile on her face, she couldn't wait to see her family. She walked after the doctor to go and see them, she didn't have the same feeling as he did. The red haired girl was just happy to see her family.

  • The Doctor led Evangeline to a set of bulky metal doors. "Are you ready?" He asked as he opened them and shoved her in. Inside the doors however wasn't a waiting room. It was a surgery room full of doctors and an empty table.

Death sped up as he saw the doors close. He had a bad feeling about this. The doctor quickly walked away as Death approached the doors.

Evangeline froze seeing the surgery room, fear crossing her face. "What the h#ll?!" She breathed, taking an uneasy step back. The red haired girl glanced over her shoulder to see if Death was close enough to see what was going on. In her current state and how many of them there were she didn't know if she could get away.

  • "It's okay, we're just very curious about something don't worry." One of the surgeons said, a needle in hand as he approached Evangeline. Suddenly the doors burst open and Death stands there, his eyes glowing with hatred. "Evangeline, get behind me now." He said, his voice cold yet calm with a dangerous undertone. These people would pay. The surgeons all backed up in surprise.

Evangeline had been taking another nervous step back before she turned around in surprise. She was both surprised by how quickly Death had gotten there as well as by the hatred in his eyes. Despite that, she didn't hesitate before getting behind him. Although she was proud, she wasn't stupid.
