  • Things weren't always like this... Life used to be normal. But no. Be it some mutated disease, terrorist attack, act of God-the theories go on.
But it doesn't matter now. The world is dead. Rather, the world is filled with the living dead.
But then there's people like me, who were in the crossfire of the governments last attempt at control.
The radioactivity from the bombs killed almost everyone in its path. Except for those few of us.
We survived, somehow. We got so sick, it seemed like we were dying. But those that pulled through, we became... Mutants of sorts.
We gained abilities. Abilities we use to fight off the zombies and protect those we care about.
We are known as the Warriors.

The night was quieter than it usually was. Eerie even. Chara kept watch around them as Alec set up for a somewhat decent camp. They knew never to get too comfortable, or leave out something they couldn't afford to lose.
In the distance, Chara heard a noise and tensed.
Alec noticed and looked in the direction she was looking, "Is everything all right?" he whispered out of habit.
"Not sure. Stay here, be ready for anything." She instructed him.
Alec grabbed his baseball bat in one hand and pistol in the other. He kept his ears open for any sound around them, better safe than sorry, "Don't go too far."
Nodding absently at Alec's warning, Chara made her way slowly towards the direction she heard the noise come from. She held two daggers, one in each hand, just in case.

  • The twins looked at each other, Bedda groaning as she forced the mutants following behind them in a different direction with a small bead of sweat forming on her brow. She had a stronger ability than she gave herself credit for. She was a very talented illusionist whereas her brother remained normal after the infection hit everyone. The twins panted, listening carefully around them when Bedda thought she heard a crash. The woman had her daggers in hand without a thought while Nahiossi pulled his pistols with narrowing eyes as they slowly approached the source of the sound. Everything else had been quiet since they ditched the mutants, they wouldn't let their guard down at any moment though. Not until they were certain they were okay and things were safe, and even then they weren't always at ease.

  • Chara crept closer to the noise, unsure yet what it was, "Is someone there?" She called.
Alec stood ready, waiting for Chara to tell him to either run or fight. Usually she could take on most zombies herself, so when she said to run, she meant it.

  • The siblings looked at each other before deciding to step out slowly, Bedda putting up an illusion that they were closer than they really were. They were probably a good fifteen feet from the older two. "Friend or foe?" The multi-lingual Italian woman called out as they looked at the other pair. They weren't too certain if they could be trusted, but neither could help the sense of relief that flooded their bones briefly for seeing other people. Note one said people, for Bedda was considered a mutant rather than a human anymore.

  • Chara was surprised to see the two, it'd been a long time since they'd seen other people, "Friend, I hope." She answered cautiously. It was a rough world they lived in, they hadmet some rather rotten people and we're wary of others.
Alec's eyes widened at the sight of others and rushed over excitedly, "Please, will you come sit with us? Having company aside from Ms Brute over here would be a luxury!"

  • Bedda let the illusion drop when she knew the couldn't see the difference and had taken the place of where the girl cast the image. She offered a brief and small smile in greeting whereas her brother slowly put away his weapons. Bedda didn't move to put away her knives until she saw the blond wasn't approaching anymore. "Okay, I think we can do that." Contrasting his twins voice, Nashiossi had a deeper, stronger voice while Bedda's was softer, more gentle. "At least for the night." He added, glancing around them to see the sun finally setting.

  • "Sweet!" Alec exclaimed excitedly. He held his hand out to the pair, he was always one for formality, "Name's Alec. It's awesome to meet you guys!"
Charaphenelia watched her friend with boredom. He acted that way towards every person they came across. She thought he didn't see the underlying betrayal like she did. Any and everyone was capable of stabbing you in the back. She wished he'd see it before it happened to him in the future. But then again, maybe he'd never know that betrayal, because he had her to watch his back for him.

  • Bedda seemingly hesitated before taking his hand. "Bedda. This is my brother Nashiossi." She introduced themselves as she shook his hand, eyes glancing at the girl nearby with a question in her eyes. She didn't know their stories or anything, neither of them did. Nashiossi tilted his head after shaking hands with Alec, eyes watching around them. Bedda took care of the face to face interactions when Nashiossi felt like taking care of the threat around them.

  • "Come, please." Alec motioned towards their little make-shift camp.
Chara internally groaned at his eagerness to have two strangers join them, and hesitantly followed him. She figured, if anything, she could probably at least get them away from the two as quickly as she could.

  • OOC: Ayy, hope I'm not butting in.

IC: Robert picked his way through some rubble, finding very little in the way of salvage. He looked up, noticing the darkening sky, and decided that it was about time to be on his way. Never know when a herd might come through and what not, you know.

  • The twins followed without question, the young twin grabbing her brothers hand to keep herself calm. When they settled down, the twins rested against a tree with their eyes on the pair that they were suddenly staying with. "Have you two found anyone else since the infection hit?" The girl asked as they looked at them, thankful neither noticed that she had caused the illusion when they first met. As far as they knew, they could try and attack her because she was something different, something that helped protect others even if she weren't human anymore. It made her brother all the more protective over her seeing as he pulled her closer to him to make sure she was okay with everything.

  • Alec was the one who answered, "Yes. Not many, but a few. Not all were friendly, however. Which is why my friend here is wary of newcomers. But I believe everyone deserves a chance at least." He said optimistically.
Chara rolled her eyes at his words, showing her disapproval by the look on her face.

  • Bedda just nodded lightly. "Of course. Not many nowadays are peachy." She shrugged lightly. "Not after the infection hit and made some people.. Different. Have you heard of them? The different humans?" She asked curiously while Nashiossi went to pull out a flask of water for her.

  • "Oh," Alec's happy tone dropped as he looked down at his hands, "You mean the mutants... Yeah, we've heard of them. Kinda hard to believe, I wouldn't believe it myself if I hadn't seen one for myself. I mean, wow... How can a normal human gain abilities just like that? It's a bit unbelievable. Then again, there was a time when zombies were unbelievable as well. Just goes to show you that anything's possible."
"They say that the mutants were created by the high levels of radiation the nuclear bombs the government set off to kill the zombies. The mutant we met, they said that almost everyone-who didn't immediately die from the blast itself-were from radiation poisoning. Everyone even in the same vicinity of the blasts were either killed or got extremely sick. But those who didn't die from the sickness, recovered and found they had new abilities. It was quite an incredible camp fire story. We didn't believe them at first, but... Then they gave us proof. It was... Incredible." Charaphenelia recalled the memory. She didn't like others knowing of what she really was, so when they had met that other mutant, it gave her the chance to fib without actually telling a lie. She could tell his story and completely leave her side out.

  • The twins nodded in agreement, quiet for the moment. Bedda wouldn't say the truth and neither would her brother because they weren't sure how these two would act in regards to her being a mutant. "Well, let's get off that subject." Nahi said as he put the flask away after his twin was done with it. "Dinner. Do you two have anything already or do you want us to go out and hunt?"

  • "Oh! Actually, we already have something. We don't mind sharing." Alec went to their small pile of stuff and took out a decent sized container, "Found it! Who's up for squirrel?" Setting the container down, he grabbed their roasting pokers and slid a good chunk of squirrel meat on each before setting them before the fire to cook. "By the way, " he gestured towards his female companion, "This is Charaphenelia. Chara for short. She forgets her manners at times."
Chara rolled her eyes again, "I don't forget, Alec. I don't care if strangers know my name or not."

  • The girl just grunted in response to what the older woman said. "Peachy. We won't mind sharing. I can go get more." The male said as he moved to stand to get ready to go hunting. Bedda just reached for his hand as a way to stop him, shaking his head before holding a finger to her lips. "Just listen. They sound like they're more active tonight, it wouldn't be wise to go out right now. Not when visibility of the creatures is so poor." She advised him as she pulled him back down to sit. Besides she didn't want to be left alone with these newcomers, even if she could take care of herself.

  • "It's all right, we have a few canned things as well if the squirrel isn't enough." Alec offered.
Chara just looked at her friend but a noise to their right caught her attention. She was up in a second, daggers raised and ready.

  • Bedda put her hand up for he girl to sit back down. "We're okay. They're too far off to notice us." She didn't mention that she could put up an illusion to throw them off should they come near. But even as she told her this, shel felt her hands drift to her own daggers and the hair on her arms prickle as her hearing picked up on them, carefully getting to her feet as well in case they did come to close. After all, the twins dodged the horde already, but that didn't mean they wouldn't come back: they were in their territory after all.
