  • Here at the Ivory Ranch, they raise all sorts of farm animals. However, their most prized animals are their horses and border collies. With only four of their own horses, they train them to perform. From showing to barrel racing. They have four full grown collies, two male and two female. One female is expecting puppies soon. They also perform in showing and herding contests.
Naomi has inherited the ranch after her father died and is looking for help with the animals. That is where the male character is needed. The male character will be helping around the place.
Any other characters as well, whether you'd like for them to just help out or show other animals, the ranch also boards other people's animals as well.
The animals owned by the ranch itself are as followed:

After posting your info and whatnot, just jump in!

IC: Naomi rose at the break of dawn like every day. With it just being her now, she took care of the animals by herself. She hoped she would hear form someone about the help wanted ad she had posted in the nearby town a few days ago. And soon. She bustled about, feeding all the animals first before mucking out the barns. Once finished with the dirty work, it was getting close to noon. She took a quick break to grab a bite to eat before heading back outside. She saw Vixie and Hercules roaming about as they usually did, mainly near the front gates or along the fence line. Her four collies, Glitch, Sasha, Rain, and Mally accompanied her during her daily chores.
She let the sheep and goats out into their own parts of the field-her land expanded about 50 acres, and all the animals had their own sectioned off areas. The horses had the most, however, allowing them to run.
Next, she let the horses out of their stalls and into their part of the field. Except Nightingale, she kept him in his stall until the others were off. She came back to his stall and hooked a lead to his halter before leading him to the training pin. There, she began lunging him.

  • The large farm approaching in the distance called David's name. It had been a long time since he'd lost his job as a farmer at the Rocky Point Dairy, but the ad that he noticed in town for the new job gave him hope. He'd missed the life of being a country boy with a country boy job. He was raised to do his very best in whatever he did, and he chose to take over the family farm when his father got deathly ill. When his father passed on, the rights were given to him and his elderly mother. But milk prices began to drop and they had to sell all of their turkeys just to keep the farm afloat. Finally, his mother made the tough decision to shut it down entirely. It was devastating. But David's father always taught him to persevere, even in the darkest times. Light would always be at the end of the tunnel if you worked towards it.
David reached a hand over to pet his best friend, Goliath. The shepherd had been by his side throughout it all, and he had also seen the farm in its best and worst times. He was hoping that maybe the owner of this farm could be convinced to allow Goliath to work by his side. Once they had reached the entrance to the farm, David parked his dark blue Chevy truck from the 1980's. It belonged to his dad, and he inherited it after the passing as well. It was one of his prized possessions. He decided, against his better judgment, to park further away from the main gate, so he didn't frighten anyone or anything. Plus, David quite enjoyed walking and looking at new farms while doing so.
With Goliath walking obediently by his side, the two walked up to the gate and entered the grounds cautiously. Almost immediately, two large dogs started to bark. They were very tough-looking breeds, and he assumed they were used for guarding not only the grounds, but the animals also. Instinctively, Goliath also started to bark, causing them to appear more threatened. David grabbed his black collar roughly, firmly commanding him to be quiet. B
ut it didn't matter. Whoever owned or worked at the farm was definitely alerted by their presence at that moment. With a sigh, the pair walked past the dogs, trying to look out for anyone who had heard the commotion.

  • OOC: Thank you so much for joining!!!
IC: The barks and growls of Hercules and Vixie alerted Naomi right away. Thinking the worst but hoping for the best, she led Nightingale to opening of the pen. She climbed onto his back as the dogs kept barking, the training pin was a bit behind the main house, she would get to the front faster by riding. Giving a whistle, her collies took off and she right behind them. Nightingale ran full speed towards the barks. Naomi held onto his man to keep her in place. The front gates came into view and she slowed him to a trot as she saw a man and German Shepherd. She noted how beautiful his canine companion was. Could easily be good for show or work.
He was being harassed by her 2 guard dogs and now her collies had joined in. Giving a loud yet sharp whistle, they all ceased their barking, but eyes remained on the man.
Once within earshot distance, Naomi called out to the man, "Can I help you?"

  • {No problem at all :)}
As David walked towards what seemed like a main building, he stopped as he began to hear whistles in the distance. The guard dogs behind him were still barking, but they never made a move to attack him or his companion. Goliath's ears swiveled from side to side, hearing more than David could. Suddenly, David took a step back as a few border collies raced towards them. They seemed to come from behind the main building. At that point, he could tell that Goliath was feeling very threatened and he placed a calm hand on the dog's head. The shepherd was trained not to attack unless he was attacked first, and none of the dogs around them seemed to be interested in that.
Seemingly right behind the collies, a beautiful horse made an appearance, along with a rider. David had never personally dealt with many horses in his lifetime. His farm was mainly focused around turkeys, cows, and even sheep. The rider emitted a commanding whistle from her lips, and all the dogs silenced. Anyone who had the respect and the command of their dogs or creatures can earn the respect of any human, as his father once said. The rider on the horse was undoubtedly female. She had very long, dark hair and a face that held a very firm expression.
At her question, David spoke up. "I heard about the job. I came by to see if the spot was still open." Everything seemed silent, as if nature was holding its breath. The dogs were watching intently, and even the horse didn't seem to be making much noise.

  • Naomi nodded and dismounted Nightingale. She walked the few feet between her and her dogs. She set a hand on Sasha's head, lightly petting her, "It is." She finally answered. Inside, she was secretly relieved that someone had answered her ad, "Do you have any experience working with animals or farm?"

  • As she approached, David took his hand off of his dog's head and placed it by his side. After hearing that the job was still available, he couldn't help but feel a bit relieved. At least he'd have something that he could use as an emotional outlet. Farming always did that for him. I'm getting ahead of myself. I need to make sure I get this job first. At her question, he nodded. "Yes. My father owned a dairy farm and I worked on it for nearly my whole life." He had even dropped out of high school to help his father run the place successfully. But he wanted to leave that detail out. "I realize that this farm is different then the one that I was employed in, however I am a fast learner and I will strive to do the best that I can."

  • Naomi nodded, satisfied with his response, "Alright. I'll give you a day trial period to see how you do. Paid, of course. You're welcome to work as many hours as you'd like, but the minimum is 10 hours a day. If you pass the day, if you need room and board that won't be an issue. Day starts at 5:30 am. If you're a little late, no biggie. Just try to be here by 6 the latest or call and let me know. That ok with you?"

  • David listened to her intently, nodding at the things she was saying. It all seemed very fair, and not that far off from the schedule that he worked in the past. "That sounds fine to me. By the way, my name is David." He stuck out a hand for her to shake. "Oh and that's Goliath, my best friend. I was hoping you'd allow him to possibly work with me. He's very well trained and he was raised in the farm setting."

  • She nodded, "That's fine. They'll get used to him. I'm Naomi." She began to point out everyone as she said their names, "That's Hercules and Vixie, they guard the place. These are my contesters and main working dogs, we've got Sasha who's expecting soon. Rain, Mally, and Glitch. Then Nightingale there is one of my show horses. Don't worry if you don't get their names right away, there's more for you to meet. What animals do you have the most experience with?"

  • David watched as Naomi pointed to each animal, introducing them one by one. He was never good with names, but he'd try his best to remember them all. "Well I definitely can't memorize them all right away, but I'm sure I'll remember them eventually." At her question, he shrugged. "Dairy cows. But I see you don't have any here. That's okay, because I also have a lot of sheep experience. We owned a herd at my old job." He hated referring to his father's farm as an 'old job,' but there was no other way to say it. "But I'm always willing to learn about new farm animals." His eyes travelled to the pregnant border collie and he smiled. Goliath was the product of a female German shepherd that they'd use on the farm. He had a whole ancestry of farm dogs that he descended from. It seemed that it ran the same way with Naomi's farm.

  • "I have cows." She informed him, "The animals include cows, bulls, goats, sheep, horses, dogs, and chickens. The land is divided up so everyone has their own part of the field. The horses and cows are out back. Everyone else takes the side and some of the front. Come on, I'll give you a tour." Naomi offered, grabbing Nightingale's lead.

  • After being corrected, David couldn't help but get embarrassed. How could I have been so certain that she didn't have cows if I haven't seen the whole of this farm? With a sigh, he quickly tried to re-establish his pride. "Of course, I'd love a tour. If I'm gonna work here, it's probably best if I know my way around." At the mention of chickens, he added in a comment. "I handled turkeys at my other job, so i may have some experience with chickens due to that. The care doesn't seem that different between them."

  • She nodded and smiled, she noted he was at least trying and thought he would do just fine here, "Great. Let's go then. Come on guys." Leading her horse towards the side of the ranch, she pointed out the barn and separate fields, "The sheep stay on that side and the goats there. The chicken's coop is inside the barn. They share that at night."

  • As they started moving, Goliath stood and let his tongue hand out of his mouth in excitement. David started walking first, the canine staying by his side. As Naomi started the tour, David noticed that the sheep herd was definitely larger than the one he had. They had never owned goats, but he would visit other farms that owned them. Goliath noticed the chickens and bent his head towards them. The hardest lesson that he had learned was not to chase the turkeys. Hopefully he still remembered that when it came to the chickens. As they passed, the rooster took notice and he puffed out his chest in dominance. David nodded at Naomi's words, listening carefully.

  • "We sheer the sheep for a little extra money, but their main purpose is for the dogs. Chickens are for eggs of course, and my late father got the goats. Didn't really give a reason why, guess he just wanted them." She shrugged. She continued on towards the back of the property, 2 barns came into view from atop the hill, a good distance between the two, "The horses' barn and field." She pointed to the section on the left, "And the cows'." She pointed to the section on the right, "We sometimes board animals for other people as well. But at the moment, it's just ours."

  • David smiled a little as he took everything in. This farm was very nice, and it was also beautiful. He could get used to it. He would shear the sheep wool and his father would sell it back in the day, and when the turkeys would lay eggs, they would raise the chicks. When the turkeys got old enough, they'd sell them. As they got to the two big barns, he admired the amount to space that the animals had. "Boarding animals?" He had a couple of animals that they kept, due to the importance they had to his father. He wouldn't ask at that moment, but maybe after a while he would try. "That's a very good thing to do."

  • She nodded, "My grandfather started it. This place has been in my family for a couple generations now. Started off with just a couple horses and cows. But we expanded, and as we did, so did the ranch. They hadn't even considered sheep until my great-grandfather met a woman who was a sheep herder. He fell in love, they married, and sheep and border collies were introduced to the land." They reached the horse barn at this point and she opened the doors, allowing everyone inside. At night, all the horses go into their own stall. In the morning, we grain them and muck out the stalls. After the main chores are done, it's training time. Then, later in the evening, we milk the cows. Usually cows are milked in the morning, but my great-grandfather thought it best to milk them later on so that we can refrigerate the milk overnight so it's nice and cold the next day when we sell it." She led Nightingale to the pasture and released him before turning back to David, "Pardon my asking, but have you ever rode or lunged horses before?"

  • David found the history of her farm quite fascinating. From what he remembered, his father moved to the city for business and met his mother there. His father began to miss the farm lifestyle. At the time, his grandmother was running it. So his father brought his mother back and introduced all of it to her, which she accepted with open arms. Their farm always had vast herds of cows and a small herd of sheep. The turkeys came later, and they had to build barns for them. Looking into the horse barn, he answered her question with a shake of his head. "No, I don't have much experience with horses. My boss was actually allergic, so we never had them." He decided to keep the 'family farm' a secret for the time being.

  • She nodded, "Alright. Well, you said you're a fast learner, right?" she headed to the barn closet and took out two reins, two saddle blankets, and two saddles. She set them on the edge of the stalls. She still had one lead, she grabbed another and motioned for David to follow her, "We'll start you off with riding first. I'll need help training and keeping them in shape. Best for you to learn to ride right off." she continued walking to gate of the field the horses were in and whistled. All four came running up to her. She pet them all, giving each the same amount of attention, "You've met Nightingale. This is Golden Boy, Gypsy, and Sadie. Who would you like to learn on? They're all fully broke. Galiath can stick with you if he wants. Perhaps later, if you get good enough, he can even ride with you. He seems small enough to fit." she motioned to her collies, "They ride with me from time to time."

  • David couldn't admit it, but he was a bit nervous. He was never afraid of horses, he had just never been around them for long enough to develop a liking for them. But in an effort to be brave, he would pick and he would learn. Taking in all four horses, he decided that perhaps a female would be more docile. Something about Sadie seemed very mysterious and mystical. Perhaps it was her misty gray color, or the way the horse presented herself. "I'll go with the gray one." He said, pointing to Sadie. He took a look next to him and realized Goliath wasn't by his side. Turning around, he noticed that his companion was a few paces behind him. His gaze was curious and his head was tilted. The shepherd was just as cautious. I can't do this alone. With a whistle, he called Goliath over. "C'mon boy, you're going to be right next to me." The dog approached, looking up at him. We're ready.
