  • Ares chuckled slightly at her comment. After equally giving the cat a glare Ares stood, giving a small shrug. "If you want him to, sure. Let's go, though." She said, motioning with her hand for the girl to stand and follow as she began to head upstairs. Unlike before Joey kept still with the girl until she moved, following her instead of Ares.

"Here is where you'll be staying." Ares said as she swung open the door to the guest room, revealing a rather nicely decorated tan room. It had a tv, a king sized bed, a closet, and a bathroom attached. It was definitely nice compared to what people thought she would own, though they never considered the fact that she had a great amount of money.

"Joey has a bed stashed under the bed if you ever want him to stay in here, though he usually prefers to just sleep on the bed." She explained as she leaned against the door frame, her hands stuffed into her pockets lazily.

  • Gulping, the small girl nodded, standing up and following Ares to what she was certain would be her own special hell. Every step forward felt like another life sentence, eventually reaching the death penalty as the two (three if you count Joey, which Minny certainly did) reached the door.

Minny was visibly shocked to see the room she was presented with. Was this some sort of cruel joke, or did she actually get to stay in this luxurious room? Was Ares seriously going to let her stay in here? Minny was so sure she was going to make her sleep under the stairs or somersetting.

"I... Get to sleep in here? With Joey?"

Though it was a huge relief to know she wouldn't be living a life of agony while she was held here, it really did beg the question 'why'? Why was Ares being so kind to her? There were probably shittier rooms in this mansion of a house for her to sleep in, and considering how much of a 'bitch' (according to Ares) she had been, why hadn't she been thrown in there?

    "Th... Thank you.."

  • Ares rolled her eyes slightly at the girl's reaction. She knew that the girl expected to be thrown in the basement or something but Ares had too much of a heart for that. Her basement was hell and the girl had a better chance outside than in there.

"Your welcome." She said simply before motioning towards the dresser. "Since this really wasn't a planned sleepover or some crap I put some of my extra clothes in there in case you ever need to change, which hopefully you do." She explained, watching carefully as Joey padded into the room, bone in jaws, and leaped up onto the bed happily. He tucked his paws under his thin frame as he dropped his bone down onto the bed, glancing at the two curiously.

"Usually Joey chills in my room at night but he seems pretty happy to stay in here so yeah, I guess you do get to stay with him." She said with a small shrug before running her free hand through her hair. "Alright, that aside, what do you like to eat?" She asked, glancing at the girl carefully as she cocked a eyebrow. Ares wasn't a chef or anything but when you lived on your own you learned a few things.

  • Clothes? Ares's clothes? What kind of kidnappers let their victims change out of their dirty clothes, let alone into their personal attire. In all the books she read, cases of her father's she's studied, shows she's watched- no one in Ares' position had ever been as nice to someone in Minny's.

"Thank you.. I'll try not to dirty them too much, I guess."

She tried to give her voice as much edge as she could, but it was all fake, and obviously so. Minny was used to faking a lot of her emotions, but she's never really needed to pretend to be angry. No- wait, she wasn't pretending here either. She was just grateful, surprised, and tired. That's all it was. She just knew that, if she was rude, all of these amazing perks could be taken away from her, and she really would be forced into the basement, or outside.

"Eat? Well, yeah. I haven't eaten anything today! I didn't even have time to eat breakfast. I had to study for my exam today..."

Did Minny really spend the next five minutes going over every single topic which would appear on said test? Yes. Yes she did.

  • "Alright then. Come with me if you wanna get something to eat then." She said after a moment, glancing at the girl before pushing herself to stand straight. Turning on her heels, the girl began to head back down the hall and to the kitchen where she kept all the food. The sound of Joey darting after her could be heard as the dog rushed after his owner, knowing exactly where she was heading.

"I got.... Salad, warm up meals, ice cream, oreos, and basically anything simple you could wish for." She said as she leaned up against the counter, watching as Joey took a seat by her feet, looking up with wide and hopeful eyes. It wasn't unusual for her to throw him some food every now and then but she tried her best to ignore his gaze, knowing she would give in at the sight alone.

  • "Well, I don't really do anything but simple, so... I'll just have whatever, I guess."

Minny had been following close behind, eyes still locked on Joey as if he was a security blanket (no matter how nice Ares was being, she had to snap. Minny was terrified of that fact). Which, unfortunately meant that she had no way of shielding herself from his piercing, yet adorable gaze.

"Can we give a little bit to Joey? He's been a really good boy..."

Though her voice was constantly wavering, it had a slight warmth in it this time. She was a fucking sucker for dogs of any kind, especially Joey, since he reminded her so much of her own dog. She couldn't help but ask to give him a little treat, even if it meant pressing her ever-fleeting luck. Besides, what dog owner could resist that look? Joey was a natural at the puppy-dog eyes if she'd ever seen one. A big part of Minny was sure that, even if she didn't ask, Ares would have given in eventually.

  • Ares gave a sharp sigh when she heard the girl ask if they could give Joey a treat. "Fine, but give him this instead. He can eat as much as this as he wants but I don't want him sick from eating too much human food." She said as she dug into one of the counters, pulling out a container of small treats of all kinds. She handed it to the girl, Joey's gaze glued to the container as if it was a life line. The dog stood carefully, raising his head as far as possible to look at the girl and the container.

"Fine then. Salad it is." She said after a moment as she began to pull out the things for a salad, sighing as she began to put it together with ease. Within minutes she had a salad conjured up, almost as if it was second nature for the girl. After putting the stuff back up she glanced back at Joey at the girl, Joey's gaze still glued onto her.

  • The sigh caused her to flinch, but she recovered quickly as she was handed the assorted dog treats. She looked all of them over, inspecting each one with way too much care, before choosing a small one shaped like a heart- a valentine's day treat. On the biscut were the words life without you is 'ruff'! and for some reason, she felt Joey would enjoy it more than the others. So, with a ghost of a grin, she handed it gently to the dog.

"Aw, he looks so happy... Dogs are so nice,"

Minny smiled and pat Joey's head once he had finished the treat off, eventually gathering the nerve to look back at Ares. God, why was she so goddamn intimidating?

"Thank you for the meal. I'd say the salad looks good.. But you know, it's salad, and all salad looks good."

She couldn't explain why exactly why she was making small talk but she certainty was. Maybe she thought that, the more se joked with Ares, the more inclined she would be to be nice to her. Then again, it didn't seem like Ares needed any motivation to show Minny kindness. I guess you never know though. Anyone can snap in an instant, and Minny could assume a drug lord was hardly an exception.

  • "Yeah, dogs are great animals. Though sometimes I feel like Joey is only here for the treats." She chuckled sharply as Joey tore his gaze from the girl and glanced at Ares at the mention of his name. Once he realized she wasn't calling him he quickly glanced back to the girl who carried his treats, his tail beginning to wag rapidly as he licked his muzzle. Despite destroying the last treat in milliseconds he was already ready for another treat, his ears perked hopefully.

"Your welcome." Ares managed to say after a moment, running her hands through her black hair before glancing at the girl. She didn't try to speak to her besides that, though. She could easily tell that the girl was intimidated so she took advantage of that. Ares was always a bit too sweet for her job but it was good to keep people somewhat fearful.

  • Minny decided on giving him one more treat before quickly handing the container back to Ares, still avoiding eye contact, so when Joey looked for more treats. Ares would have the final say. Besides, she really did want to enjoy her salad in peace. And though dogs were wonderful company, she hated when they watched her eat.

Having no reason nor will to initiate conversation, Minny simply did not, instead choosing to put her mouth to better use: food. She scarfed down the varied vegetables in a flash. It didn't take long for the plate to be cleared, and for Minny to adorn a satisfied smile. It felt great to have food in her stomach, even if it came with the added shame of being fed it like a dog. She did her best to ignore that fact.

    "Thank you for the meal,"

She pretty much whispered her thanks, too embarrassed and scared to speak in even a slightly louder manner.

  • "Your welcome." She paused as the girl handed her back the treats, watching as Joey instantly snapped his gaze to Ares as she now held the treats. Ares sighed before throwing him a few, quickly putting them away after that so he couldn't beg for more.

"Is there anything else you need?" She asked after a minute, her eyes landing on the girl as she watched her carefully. Her gaze was sharp as usual, though no threatening nature was held behind them. "Feel free to eat whenever you want, too." She added, forcing her gaze away as she stuffed her hands into her pockets. She glanced at the counter, unsure of what to do at that point since the girl definitely didn't seem to want to socialize.

  • "You're being... Really nice to me."

Eventually, she couldn't stop herself from addressing the burning question on her mind. Why on earth was she taking the effort to make sure she was cared for? 'do you need anything else'? It sounded like she was talking to a kid she was babysitting, or a someone on their death bed! It even reminded her of how her mother would dote on her when she had the flu.

"Why? You could probably, like, lock me up without any food or water, and I couldn't do anything about it. So... Why?"

Maybe if she played her cards right, she could even convince Ares to let her go! Then she could go home and study for the test she'd have to make up, and forget that any of this ever happened. She would be ab;e to forget Joey, and Trigger, and even Ares. Daddy would arrest her, and she'd be in jail, and she'd never have to worry about her being so nice ever again!

  • [color=black]Ares forced her gaze back to the girl as she was questioned, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Because I didn't bring you here to hurt you. God, I didn't even wanna watch you but you scared everyone off so I'm stuck with you. I just want your dad to step down from his job or transfer away. I want MY city back." She pointed out before giving one last sharp sigh. She shook her head before running her hand through her hair.

"And not everyone is like the movies. I don't have to torture you or be cruel to you and if anything I don't want to do that. I know your daddy tells you all these bad these because of course he's a cop. He knows only one side." She said with a annoyed snort, rolling her eyes before pulling her gaze from the girl. Joey took a seat by Minny's feet, his tongue lolling out as he chilled by her patiently.

  • "... Oh. I guess that makes sense..."

Minny had no idea what to say- what even could she? Not sorry, because her assumption of evil wasn't entirely misplaced. She had only previously admitted to killing in cold blood, and even though she expressed no direct desire to hurt her, she doubted the threat of tying her up outside was just a fib.

"Well, with that logic... Don't you only know one side, too? Like... You don't know why Daddy does what he does, or why he works hard to take you down, right?"

Perhaps she said it just to fill the silence, but the more she thought about it, the more sense it made. For all she knew, Ares had no answer to any of those questions! Maybe her dad wasn't anything but a do-gooder cop, but Minny was pretty sure Ares was nothing more than a drug-lord with a sense of empathy.
