  • With the both of them now being able to see, Lance's pale face was visible and he was well aware of it. He glanced up, sucked in a huge breath, and puffed out. "He looked dead." Then he went back to coughing, gulping and gasping. Finally, his breath returned. "He dealt me such a big blow. I've never been winded for so long that I feared for my life before. And I've been in a number of fights." Lance dragged a nearby desk in front of the door and stepped away, inhaling softly again. Like he needed any more air.

  • Kate looked up and looked at Lance's face. He seemed terrified of whatever this creature was. "Was it the thing that dragged me Lance?" she said softly. Kate didn't know what this creature wanted, she was probably more scared than he was.

  • Lance shook his head. "I don't know, Kate. I didn't see that one's face." He took a deep breath. "All I know is we have to get out of here. I don't care what we get called, we just have got to go."

  • Kate picked up her stuff, all that was left anyways. "Ok Lance, we can go to my house."she said softly. Her books had been scattered around on the floor. As she got up she heard a loud sound.

  • Kate looked at Lance, and saw a shadow out the window. "I think he is back Lance, maybe this time with friends."she said quietly. The sky had already darkened into the stars above. Then the lights to the rides shot on.

  • Lance jumped. "We have to go." He grabbed her hand and burst through the doors to the outside, sprinting straight past the strangers to the gates of the abandoned theme park.

  • Lance shook the gates. Indeed, they were locked. "Then we climb over them. C'mon." He knelt down and cupped his hands together to offer Kate a boost up over the gates. Whatever obstacles came in their way, Lance was determined to get out of that damned theme park.

  • "We're going to my house! I don't care if they follow, they must be humanlike in some way! Meaning, a door and a lock should hold them back!" They rounded a corner and suddenly staggered up a doorstep. It was a large, fancy house they approached. Lance threw open the door, pushed Kate in, and followed her, locking it behind them. He panted, out of breath from all the running. "This should do for now..."

  • Kate fell on her butt on the floor and gasped for air. She looked around and noticed the architecture of the household. Pictures of what she guess was a baby Lance hung from one wall, while a married couple was on another. The staircase was magnificent and huge. "This is your house? Mine is a shed compared to this." she said softly.

  • Lance gave a small smile. "Most people's houses are sheds compared to this. It's easy to get lost, so stay close. Let's see if my mom's home." He helped her up and caught his breath before weaving in and out of rooms and corridors till he reached a large, fancy-looking living room.

  • Lance peered through the living room. Indeed, a woman with long jet-black hair was sat on a white sofa reading a magazine. Lance rearranged his hair with a sigh. At least his clothes weren't too dirty. "Kate, that's...um, that's Isabelle McClain, my mother. She's pretty easygoing so you don't have to worry about being shy or intimidated, okay?"

  • Kate still was uneasy in this luxrious home. She felt unwelcome, even with Lance by her side. She waited for the mother to look up from her magazine as she saw Lance look at his clothes. "Um...still gonna be a tad bit shy." she said quietly moving closer behind him.

  • Lance smiled and summoned up the courage to lightly kiss Kate's forehead. "That's fine, but she's not going to intimidate you." Eventually, he cleared his throat and the woman looked up. Instead of the hazel-brown eyes Lance had, she had a startling blue. A smile crossed her face and she stood up, setting her magazine down. The woman wore a light blue T-shirt and black leggings, with bare feet. She walked over and stole Lance away from Kate for a long hug. "Lance, my baby boy! I never thought you'd come back from that dare, Godzijdank!" Lance smiled and wriggled out of his mother's grasp. "Hey mom. This is my friend Kate. We needed to hide away because there's something going on at that amusement park."

[Godzijdank means thank God in Dutch, and also Lance's mom is Dutch]
