  • Plot: My character is a small town young woman. She lives and works on her family's ranch where she works cattle and horses. Our characters meet because occasionally her mother takes in troubled teens who need a change in pace, these teens coming from large cities. Your character will be this troubled teen. He will be arriving at the ranch to start and his role will be a stable/ranch hand officially. Unofficially, he will learn that there is so much more to life than gangs and traffic, and noise, as my character will show him.

    Rules:
I dont really have a length requirement, but be creative! Be deep! Lets try really hard to minimize one liners.
The Ranchhouse: This is where the family sleeps, it is in fact a fully functional house. There is a mud room, a laundry room, two full baths: one extends from the mud room and the other is located between the three bedrooms. Though this is not where your character will be staying, as his living quarters have its own full bathroom. The exterior of this lovely ranch is that of a log cabin. Everything about this home is quaint and "rustic". It is modest and yet lovely in its simplicity.

The Barn: The barn is a large one, a necessity due to all of the animals that are housed by the family. Many patients are taken in at once, as the barn has around 20 stalls available for clients. It is a natural-looking stained cedar. Half of the loft is used to store hay and straw for the barn, the other half is used as your characters quarters. This barn is complete with two sets of rolling doors on opposite ends of the barn for accessibility sake.

Loft Quarters (Where your character will stay):
The living quarters is located through the barn office, up a staircase. There is a door for privacy, there is a comfortable chair, a queen-sized bed with a full set of linens and a quilt as well as a few blankets. There is a dresser and a closet and a mirror as well as a mirror in the full bathroom. Meals are to be shared in the main house. There is electricity in the barn and thus in this room, as well as a separate heating system for just this room and there is a fan and windows for the summer.

    Name: Brooke Rae King
    Age: 19
    Looks: above
Personality: Brooke is incredibly strong willed. She loves her mother, who has taught her the passion which she now holds so dear in her heart. That said, horses are her world.

  • Accepted!!

Brooke is going back and forth between the barn and field, turning some of the horses and and bringing some others in to be fed their special regiment. The young adult pushes up the sleeve of her light coat to look at her watch. Her mother had told her that their new ward/ stablehand would be arriving around 3 and it was now 3:10. She couldn't help but to wonder what this one would be like. She shakes her dark blonde head and unclips the lead line from the halter of a client's horse, letting him loose before she closes and locks the gate.

  • His blue truck ate the pavement in front of him as he drove down the road. The radio was silent as he searched for the turn off. He was running late, but Xander didn't really care. All he could think was how this was just a waste of time. He'd rather be back in the city, enjoying the night life. Being raised on the street, he loved the bright lights but didn't enjoy the lack of knowing when your next meal was. A few moments later he found the driveway and headed down. On either side were horses and cattle, and Xander smiled. Even as his life was hard growing up, he always found joy in taking in strays like himself, mostly dogs but a couple cats would befriend him. It took him only a minute to reach the home and barn. Stopping the truck and shutting it off, Xander opened the door and stepped out of the truck.

(Ooc; Do you happen to watch Heartland?)

  • OOC: I have watched it. I am working on the first season. But I have read the books.

    IC:
Brooke stopped the blue truck, *Finally,* she thought to herself. She holds the lead line slack in her hands, walking back to the barn entrance to wait patiently for the young man. She would be the one to show him around and teach him how to handle the horses that have been mistreated, abused, neglected, or suffered a severe trauma. This is intended to teach parolees important life skills in ethics, timeliness, work-ethic, and not only how to treat animals but also humans.

  • Xander stepped over to the barn, and noticed a girl standing there. She held a lead rope in her hands and he couldn't help but think that she was quite pretty. Blond hair fell to her shoulders as she stood, looking sort of annoyed. He felt the breeze play with his short dark hair as he breathed in the country air. Xander was an excellent thief, and got in trouble twice for breaking & entering and robbery, this was why he was here now. He missed the noise of the street life but somehow found the peace enjoyable.

(Ooc; Okay, I was curious because this sounds like a Heartland style rp which is great because its one of my favorite shows)

  • OOC: It is kinda that style
    IC:
Brooke gives the young man a friendly smile, "I'm Brooke, welcome to Harvest Moon Ranch," She says, sticking her hand out in introduction so that they may shake hands. She pretty well figured that this was the guy that is going to be working on the ranch, but she wanted to make sure before she said anything, just in case. She shakes her head slightly to move her hair from her eyes, waiting for him to introduce himself.

  • Ic; "Nice to meet you. My name's Xander Barnes" He reached his own hand forward and shook hers with a smile on his lips. Man she had a very nice voice too, sweet and easy to listen to. He glanced around the ranch, looking at the different horses and semi-enjoying the nice fresh air, even though he was so used to the smog-filled air of the city itself.
    (Ooc; Cool)

  • Brooke smiles warmly, "You are here to work, right?" She asks him, turning to walk into the barn once their hands had parted. He had the soft, manicured hands of a city-slicker, but that will be changing soon. She motions for him to follow her, so that she can show him around.

  • "Yes, I am" Xander followed her to the barn. The dirt and gravel crunched under his feet as he moved. He rubbed his hands together as he stepped into the barn. It was large inside, and very nice looking. He noticed there were at least twenty stalls in this barn.

  • "It's nice to meet you, Xander. Would you like to see the room you'll be staying in?" She asks him, showing him where the office is that will lead up to his room. She also checks a chalkboard schedule for feeding.

  • "Yes, please. I'd like to see where I'll lay down after a long day" He joked, hoping she was the kind of girl who liked stupid and over-used jokes. Xander looked at the office, it was nice and cozy. Perfect for running a ranch operation. There was a chalkboard near the office with all the horses names and feeding schedules on it. A few feet away there was a set of stairs leading up.

  • He followed behind her, hearing the small laugh she gave him. The sound echoed through his brain as he heard his feet thump on the wooden stairs. "Following you" He stated, keeping up the pace right behind her.

  • Xander stepped into the room and looked around. A nice queen-sized bed complete with linens and sheets, as well as a beautiful quilt. A dresser sat near the bed. A closet with a mirror and a full-sized bathroom a few feet away from the bed. "Its very nice, thank you" He had never had quarters these fancy before and it was very nice compared to street life.

  • "You're welcome, I hope that it is to your standards." She says, in a slightly teasing manner. She looks around for a moment, "Would you like to start learning the ropes now? Or wait until tomorrow?" She asks him.

  • He looked over at her, hearing the teasing voice and a cocky smirk set on his face. "It's just right" He responded, before thinking about the question she asked him. He had nothing more to do tonight. He had nothing but a small duffle with a few pieces of clothes, so there was nothing to unpack. It sounded like a good idea to get working right away. "I'd like to start learning now." He said, watching her and hoping she didn't notice him watching her, he didn't want her to think he was a creep.

  • Brooke nods curtly at his reply abd turns on her heel to head back down the steps. "During the summer months we house anywhere between 15 and 30 horses for rehabing. Yesterday I was able to send home 3 horses so your workload is a little lighter. Every day we clean out stalls, every single day. Once a week we put down fresh bedding." She begins to explain to him, walking through the office back to the feeding board. "This is for the sake of making a schedule and sending owners progress reports. You won't be communicating with the owners yet."
