  • The Gold Currents are one of the deadliest gangs roaming the streets of Valmark to date.

With a lethal leader shrouded in mystery and his ever-present, ghostlike companion, countless rumors have flown. Few gangs have achieved the Gold Currents's level of infamy, and even fewer are brazen enough to cross them.

That's why, when gang members start showing up dead around the city, panic spreads like plague through The Coop, ragtag residence of the Gold Currents. Who, they wonder, would be so bold as to kill off their members? And why are they targeting only them? Why not other gangs?

Determined to find the truth (and seek vengeance) at any cost, the gang's leader begins blackmailing the leaders of other gangs, people who he feels might be holding a grudge against him or the other Currents. Little does he know that he's in way over his head.

There is a politician on the rich side of town requiring the assistance of a certain specimen of person. The kind of person who knows how to pick locks, pitch successful bribes, and slice the tongues out of those who betray him, and who will do so without batting so much as an eyelash. He needs the help of the Gold Currents and its ruthless leader.

    Enter Hana.

Hana is the silent phantom of the Valish slums. She makes no noise, and seems at times to not even breathe. At twelve years old, she was sold into indentured servitude by her indebted, gambling mother. She lived and worked out of a brothel for two years until the day that he walked into her life. A boy who couldn't have been much older than herself, but whose eyes were ancient and whose expression was unreadable. She knew who he was. All the girls at the brothel knew who he was: the leader of the Gold Currents. He only ever came to speak with the owner of the brothel, never for the company of the girls.

Hana knew she had a certain set of skills that could help her win her way out. She just needed to know how to use it to her advantage. So, one day, against her better judgement, she rushed the Gold Current's leader when she saw him coming into the brothel. She wanted to show off her skill-set, and that seemed like her best bet at the time. As if he had been expecting the silent ambush, he knocked her to the floor, observed her for a few seconds, and walked on without a word.

The next morning, she was released into his custody and informed that he would be paying off the remainder of her indenture to the owner of the brothel... But, as long as he remained paying her off, she would be a fully functioning member of the Gold Currents, making herself of use however the leader required.

So, at fourteen years old, he turned her into a lethal weapon. Now, at nearly eighteen years of age, she remains the greatest asset to the gang yet.

The time has come to really test out her abilities, though.

When the leader of the Currents gets the deal of a lifetime from a politician with genuine desperation in his eyes (and who I will play), he requires Hana, as well as two other Gold Currents, to travel across the sea with him on a mission so dangerous, the chance that they won't make it back far outweighs the chance that they will.

And, in the midst of this chaos, Hana seems to be growing increasingly close to a certain friend of hers. This character will be embarking on the journey with them. He's energetic, fun, and perhaps a touch too trigger-happy for comfort. He also happens to be the leader's right hand man. (While Hana is his "left-hand" man.) Now, understand. The leader of the Gold Currents is cold, distant, and unreasonably cruel to everyone around him. That's how he survives.

What nobody could have anticipated is the jealousy he feels whenever he sees Hana and his right-hand man talking together, laughing.

Needless to say, the journey ahead is going to be a long one. And who's to say that it will even be worth it at the end?

(( That's perfectly fine! You don't even have to make him until you decide to put him in the roleplay, if you don't want to! I totally understand! ))

Valmark was a city that never slept. That's why, on the night of Jordie Torkov's gruesome murder, it was only a matter of hours before the body was discovered and the Gold Currents were alerted. As usual, Hana was the first to catch on to what had happened. She'd been out that night, taking recon of the esteemed Bajan residency. It was on her way back, as she reeled through the exterior layout of the merchant's house, that a clamor in the streets below caught her attention. The Phantom of Valmark slid across the sun-warmed tiles and, expecting nothing more significant than a bar fight gone amiss, peered past her position on to where a group of people had flocked around the canal. It was difficult to tell what was going on from her standpoint, but excited voices drifted to her ears on a cold whirl of briny wind.

    "Is he breathing?

"Be damned if he is. The kid's torn to shreds!"

"Look, that tattoo! Isn't that a gang symbol or something like that?"

Hana knew it could have been anyone. Most gangs urged their members to adorn similar tattoos so that proof of their loyalty would be forever printed onto their skin. But there had been a lot of controversy surrounding the Gold Currents as of late... Controversy surrounding the murdered members who kept showing up left and right. Pushing down the tide of nausea rolling into her throat from her stomach, Hana tried to assure herself that it could have been anybody. Those Fog Hawks could be pretty brutal when it came to punishing traitors, and once or twice a year, sorry saps branding the tattoo of the Fog Hawks would be found floating dead in the canal, or riddled with bullets in some out-of-the-way alley.

As she climbed artfully down the side of the building, she hoped she was right. She hoped she was right even when she discerned the golden markings of a Gold Current tattooed onto the dead man's upper-arm. She even hoped she was right as she stood at the window outside of Nathan's office, her heart a deadweight beneath her ribs. A master of her own body, Hana didn't figure there was any point in reaching Nathan through conventional methods. If she could heave herself up the side of the Coop to knock on the window of his office, she saw no reason not to take advantage of that.

She peered through the grimy glass to find, with some relief, that he was seated at his desk. She raised a carefully steadied hand and gave the window one, two, three quick knocks to signify her presence and see to it that he unlock the window.

  • Nathan had been flicking through papers, head resting on his hand. It was frustrating how many members of the Gold Currents were being killed recently, and he'd been on high alert. Such high alert that he'd even accidentally nearly injured some of his own members when they arrived at his door. However, there was only one person he knew who might knock on his window. Pushing back his chair, Nathan stretched out his arms then opened the window, dark brown eyes peering through the crack just to check. It was indeed Hana, and he pulled the window open. "What is it?" Probably another death, if his initiative was right. Hana didn't usually visit him unless she was unbelievably bored or something important happened. Well, that was a lie. He saw her quite often, just not in his little room.
