  • BASIC INFORMATION
(y/c) has been wanting a pet, specifically a neko, for quite a while; and now, they have ultimately decided to go out and buy one. (y/c), in search for a Pet Store, has finally stumbled across one. Inside lies exactly what they had hoped for; a neko, well, quite a few nekos, really. Ultimately deciding on buying a neko; (y/c) is now responsible for the one that they chose. However, caring for [ and possibly loving ] a neko isn't what (y/c) had been expecting at all. (y/c) will not only have to care for their neko; but raise them as well!

    MORE INFORMATION
You get to decide which neko (y/c) chooses! Here are the options and a slight description-

Also, mind playing the shopkeeper for the first part? We could alternate playing them if you'd like.

    Name: Kano Kimura
Kano is a more than a little irresponsible, which leads to the question of why he decided to get a neko in the first place. He tries to be a nice person, but he's not patient at all, and can become snappy once his limits are pushed. He's very tired most of the time, but otherwise, he's caring and protective, though he has a hard time showing his affection for others. This kid tries his best.
    He'll be choosing Neko C!

  • [center][fancypost=bgcolor:; border: none; width: 480px; line-height: 110%; font-family: arial; text-align: justify]/ ah, thanks! o: hope this alright!

The apartment was a quiet place. It was rather small in size, and was cluttered with various things ranging from important-looking papers to useless scraps of metal. Also, there was clothing. A lot of clothing. It was a miracle that this trashy place was able to sustain life, also known as the equally as trashy person who lived here. He wouldn't be able to say for sure whether or not it was possible for two people to live in his apartment at once, but he was soon going to find out. More accurately, it was going to be one person and a neko.

No, he definitely wasn't responsible enough to be able to take care of a pet and himself, but he had heard that nekos- or cats in general- were different. A lot of the people he knew had them, and they had told him that the only thing nekos did was sleep. It sounded pretty easy to take care of one; he could use some company in that quiet apartment of his. Not that Kano had decided to go out and adopt a neko beforehand. He had just been walking down the street as usual earlier that afternoon, on his way home from the fast food place. For some reason, the pet shop on the corner caught his eye, and despite never having gone in there before in his life, he decided to take a look. It was an impulsive decision; The boy preferred to decide things on the spot, and before he knew what he was doing, his hands were pressed against the nekos' glass cases.

He was especially attracted to the black-furred one with the innocent appearance. He didn't know why this one was so interesting to him- there were plenty of other innocent-looking, black-cursed nekos out there, but for some reason, this particular one caught his eye. "Yuki," Kano said out loud, reading the label on the case. It was a pretty name. For moments, he stared at the neko, watching it go about its daily business. How boring, he thought, to be stuck in a case all day with nothing to do. In this way, he felt a strange sort of kinship to all of these nekos around him. What was his apartment but a cage of his, anyway?

Kano smiled longingly at it. He probably looked like some kind of little kid who had never seen a neko before, but... Man, now that he thought about it, living in a dark hole for the past few years of your life really did things to your head. Instinctively, he pulled his wallet out of his pocket, ready to sell his soul for one of these adorable little critters. But even he was mature enough to realize that he couldn't do that. His hopes were dashed when he found that he barely had enough pocket money to even afford a used disk at the game store downtown- it probably wasn't enough to afford to adopt and care for a single neko. If he could free them all from their boredom, he would, but he only had the time and money for one.

Unusually hurried, he made his way towards the store's clerk. It was as if he was worried that someone else would buy the neko he wanted. "How much? For the black-furred one named Yuki." Once again, he was ready to sell his soul. Kano stood his ground, prepared to haggle for prices if he had to. Or maybe he could plot a 'B&E' in the middle of the night. Either way, he was definitely not going home without a neko.

    [ ahh, it's perfect <3 ]

The neko within the shop was currently dozing off; as he'd do on a regular, daily basis. At least, that is, when he wasn't trying to appeal to a potential buyer within the shop. He tried to look as presentable as possible; and preferred to get a good rest before doing so; so when he wasn't trying to appease someone, he was sleeping. He cared much about his appearance, and knew enough to know that one looked much better without bags under their eyes. The kennel he was in was quite cramped; but not too much to the point of where he'd continue to complain about it. There was just no room to be able to completely stretch out his weary and aching limbs; which annoyed him quite a bit so. He would much rather have a larger cage; meant for a larger neko, than the smaller case he had been placed in. The real thing he couldn't complain about was that it at least gave him enough space to be able to curl up and have a very comfortable rest. Which, as mentioned before; he did very often. However, he wasn't a deep sleeper, so got awakened by basically everything that was even a bit loud. The smallest of noises; perhaps a meow from another neko, or even the store manager and an employee talking just a bit too loud. Now this was something he wished he could complain about. He had a hard time getting good sleep because he was too much of a light sleeper; and he prayed to the gods every time he slept that he wouldn't be awoken so soon. Oh how he wished he could simply just be a deep sleeper like so many of the others; that would definitely help him out quite a bit. He was very grumpy when he didn't get good sleep, and he couldn't attract a buyer's attention when he was in a foul mood. He ended up hissing and lashing out; which was something that drew customers away. However, the times where he did get a good sleep; things always went well. Until his mischievous actions came into play, that was.

The way he acted was definitely his Achilles Heel; for that was the sole reason he hadn't found an owner that could handle him. He had such an innocent look; one of which someone would maybe call adorable, perhaps. And he acted this way too. For a while, anyways; until he would get to their houses. Sometimes it would take a while for them to notice it was really him; since he was so sly and clever with how he did it. But they eventually noticed, of course, and he was always returned. He couldn't help himself, really; when there was a vase, it just needed to be knocked over. When there was food or dessert on the table that was made for a special event, or not for him; he just needed to eat it. When there was unscratched furniture; he just needed to sharpen his claws on it. When his owner gave an instruction, he just needed to disobey it. It was simply how he was.

His ears perked as he heard the chime of a bell; A new customer... A potential buyer... This made him sit upright, and immediately put his 'innocent ploy' into action. He silently congratulated himself as he heard the other speak his name; looking over at him pleadingly, as if blatantly saying; 'buy me'. He let out a soft purring sound; audible enough for the other to be able to hear. Score! Was all he could think as the male asked how much he cost.

"Oh? Yuki?" The shopkeeper spoke; pursing her lips for a moment before responding, "He costs about [ inert amount of money here ]," She spoke; smiling kindly.

  • [center][fancypost=bgcolor:; border: none; width: 480px; line-height: 110%; font-family: arial; text-align: justify]/ sorry for the late reply! i was pretty busy yesterday, but i'll try to reply sooner. also changing speech color for my own convenience!

Kano was pretty much as oblivious as it got when it came to the neko's innocence. He wasn't a particularly observant young man, and besides, the thing was cute, and that was all that mattered. For now, anyway. He knew little to nothing about taking care of a pet, but he figured that he'd search it up on the internet or ask some of his friends. It was obvious that he figured that more innocent-looking ones were going to be easier to care for. Most of the time, he wasn't a very worrisome person, but nekos were living beings too, so he'd have to step up his game with the whole 'taking care of yourself and others' thing.

He forgot all about worrying in an instant once the shopkeeper gave him the answer he was hoping for. "Wow, really?" Kano exclaimed, his usually tired face lit up with a bright smile. A small part of him was telling himself that he looked and sounded like a child, but he ignored that. None of the nekos would care about how he acted, right? Quickly, he composed himself again, trying to act like the responsible adult he was. "Um, I mean- Yeah, sure. It's a deal." Barely able to contain his excitement, he handed over his money to the cashier, who took it with a smile. "So can I just take him and leave?" He asked, slightly confused. He had never tried adopting a pet before, but it couldn't be much different from buying something at the supermarket.

    [ That's perfectly fine! And okay c: ]

Yuki leaned back within his case; now staring directly at his soon-to-be owner victim, smirking slightly as it had recently began to get boring; being in the shop for the entire day. He was barely taken out of his cage, for the shopkeepers knew that given the chance; he would bolt. And then they would have to chase him down, which was an entirely long process neither of them wanted to go through. Yuki was very troublesome; and if told this by another, he would blatantly deny. However, he knew deep down that this was indeed the truth. He now continued to stare; examining the other. His appearance, how he seemed to act, the aura resonating around him... All of it. He needed to know the basics of the male; secretly studying him, but portraying it as simply staring innocently at the other.

The female smiled at Kano's response; chuckling lightly to herself. She indeed hoped that Yuki would finally be given a home that wouldn't return him after the first few months or so. It was surprising to her how it lasted that long, considering that Yuki was incredibly mischievous. But, she had to hand it to him, he was sly enough to usually get away with it. "Oh, yeah, just sign a few pieces of paperwork and you can take him. Supplies are located all around the shop," She offered a kind wink before handing him a pen and the said papers, as well as a clipboard so he could sign the papers without ripping them. She knew the sturdy surface would be quite useful; as she stared at Yuki for a moment before smiling at Kano.

  • [center][fancypost=bgcolor:; border: none; width: 480px; line-height: 110%; font-family: arial; text-align: justify]Kano didn't know what to feel when the shopkeeper handed him the clipboard. He practically jumped around with excitement- this was actually happening! He wasn't going to be alone anymore, inside his own metaphorical cage. Who knew that stopping to look inside a pet store on his way home could do this to him? But for a brief moment, he hesitated before picking up the pen and clipboard offered to him by the shopkeeper. Completing this paperwork could mean having responsibilities that he wasn't ready for. What if he wasn't able to feed the neko- Yuki- and himself at the same time? Why did he decide to adopt one of these things in the first place? All of those thoughts ran through Kano in a split second.

Finally, he let out a sigh and took the pen and paperwork from the woman. "Alrighty," He finally decided, a slight edge to his voice. Only time would tell if he would come to regret his decision or not. Kano shook the, ah, less optimistic thoughts out of his head, not knowing why they were there in the first place. This neko in particular, Yuki, seemed easy enough to take care of. Like he could care for himself and mind his own business.

When the shopkeeper turned to look at Yuki, Kano's head automatically turned around as well. Oh, the cute little thing was staring at him. His words caught in his mouth, like he had forgotten what he was going to say. For a few moments, he stood there, staring Yuki down with blank brown eyes, not quite knowing how to put his thoughts and feelings into words. Then he blinked, coming back to life again, then turned back to the shopkeeper, somewhat more excited about adopting the neko. His emotions didn't make much sense to him sometimes, but they mostly turned out to be the right things to feel. The shopkeeper was gone, having left him on his own to complete his paperwork.

And... there. Just one more signature and he was set. For some reason, Kano decided to make this signature bigger on the page than all the rest of the writing, simply because he could. It was like his final chance to turn back- a chance he'd never take. It was important for him to live with no regrets. A life of danger. Sometimes, he felt like a loser just thinking about it. He looked down to see that his paperwork was completed. Well, there really wasn't any turning back after he handed the completed papers to the shopkeeper, he supposed. He glanced over his shoulder to look at Yuki, his soon-to-be new pet. "I have a feeling we're going to get along well," He said out loud, grinning at the neko. Maybe the kitten wouldn't understand, but at least he was trying his best. Kano approached the shopkeeper, offering her a smile before returning the paperwork.

The neko now paced patiently around his cage; his tail flicking in excitement. Unbeknownst to those who didn't know him well; they'd simply assume that this was a playful gesture, and not something chaotic. He couldn't really plan anything right now; for he didn't know the whereabouts of where he was soon to live. He needed to know this much before he was able to conjure up some kind of sly plan to execute. He as well wasn't good at guessing the type of place one lived at based on their 'aura' nor appearance. Which, was indeed quite unfortunate. To one like him, anyways. His tail flicked as he was indeed excited; thinking of the many possible places that his soon to officially be his new owner resided within. Perhaps a place with a bunch of furniture? Those would indeed be nice to sharpen his 'claws' on. Well, mainly just file his nails, however, he considered them claws. And he always would. He now curled up; resuming to stare at the male who was filling out the paperwork; keeping up the innocent look on his face as well as giving a rather shy smile. This would indeed be very fun.

The woman smiled at him; waiting for him to completely sign all the paperwork. She seemed quite patient, in all honesty; her warm smile never faltering. Which was a great trait to possess as a store owner; for kindness tended to attract more customers than repel them. Her gaze, however, kept flitting to Yuki; eyeing him a bit suspiciously; but soon turning the suspicious look into that of a more cheerful look. Please don't do the things that you usually do, Yuki... Please... She pleaded within her mind, clearly wanting this to be a permanent thing. She would definitely rather that Yuki was how he looked; innocent, and not mischievous, however, there was nothing she could do. She soon blinked and took the papers; grinning slightly; "Alright, you're all set! Feel free to have a look around, or if you're leaving, come back anytime. You're always welcome," She soon reached over; grabbing the handle to Yuki's transportable case.

Yuki flinched slightly as his cage was lifted up; smirking on the inside as he could hear his new owner. I'm sure we'll get along just fine... Was all he could think, as aloud, he let out a simple, cheerful purr in response. I can already tell this is going to be so much fun...

  • [center][fancypost=bgcolor:; border: none; width: 480px; line-height: 110%; font-family: arial; text-align: justify]Oh, he was definitely ready to do this. Luckily, it seemed like Yuki was excited to be given to a new owner, which Kano took as a good sign. A sign that the days to come would be full of joy with his new pet. There was always the chance that it would all backfire and he would have to return the neko to the shopkeeper, but she seemed pretty ready for Yuki to find himself a new home. He didn't pause to think twice about this, but if he had, he wouldn't have thought any different of the whole situation. Surely, none of the Nekos had any mind-controlling powers that would cause new customers to pick them, right? Well, not unless you counted cuteness as a power- all Nekos were cute, anyway. He was probably reading too many fantasy novels.

The smile still on his face, Kano took Yuki's case from the woman, too absorbed in his personal thoughts to notice her momentarily suspicious look at the neko. "Thank you," He said politely, genuinely thankful to the woman for allowing him to have this opportunity. She was too kind, really. He was about to gain a friend he never knew he wanted to have... right? Kano paused, mentally debating whether he should ask for how to take care of a Neko or just wing it, as they say. Finally, he shrugged, then lifted Yuki's case from the ground. He offered the shopkeeper what he hoped was a reassuring, responsible-adult grin. "I know what I'm doing." Which was, by the way, totally a lie. He didn't need any help- just the Internet! It was pretty amazing what kind of information you could get from there. Though he acted very confident about his capability to care for a neko, he was very confused about what he was doing. Honestly, Kano was just a manchild trying his best.

The neko's case was lighter than it seemed. He gently lifted it up to where he could see the kitten inside, careful not to shake it. "Hey, Yuki. We're gonna go back home, alright?" He said, though it was more of a rhetorical question. It was a little strange for him to talk to his pet, since he didn't quite know if he could talk yet. Or not. He placed the case back down, then turned back to the shopkeeper, a slightly childish smile on his face. "Don't worry, he'll be in good hands," He stated confidently, just in case. With that, he picked up Yuki's case by its handle, lifting it off the ground like it he would perish if he dropped it. From his friends, he had also heard that nekos could get a little violent when provoked, and he definitely didn't want to get off on the wrong foot with his new friend. As he went to leave the store, he stopped in his tracks for a moment, trying to savor the moment. When he went out that door, that neko was officially his property. His property. Kano knew it was a little weird to consider other the neko his 'property', like an object, but the two of them haven't gotten to know each other yet. He hoped to change that soon. "Thanks for everything," Kano finally said. A last goodbye to the woman kind enough to give him a friend. The sound of a jingling bell rang through the store as Kano made his leave, not looking back.

It was nearly dark outside, but there were no stars in the sky. The city was too bright for the stars to be seen- the only stars were the fireflies that often appeared in the summer around these parts. Kano walked quickly and with his head down, trying to be as careful as possible with his case. It would be awful if Yuki got hurt already. They arrived at an alleyway, lit up by a single street lamp where the main road merged onto a smaller one. It definitely wasn't the nicest place to live, but Kano had yet to find a summer job for money. Now that he was alone, it was okay to speak to his neko without drawing too much attention. "It's not far. My apartment's on the first floor." Too tired to say more, he continued up a short flight of stairs, then found himself on his own doorstep. Room A-1. The first. Which also meant that he had little to no view and had to catch a nice whiff of the garbage every time he walked out. The traffic didn't really bother him though. Kano put Yuki's case on the ground, then fumbled to find his apartment key. He dug the key out of one of his pockets, then put it in the keyhole and turned the knob. The door opened with a click, and he walked in, making sure to lock the door behind him. It was dark, but he quickly found the light switch. The lights flickered to life as usual, revealing quite a mess. Kano let out a sigh, then bent down to unlock Yuki's case to allow him to get accustomed with the mess of a place. "Welcome home."

Kano then proceeded to flop down on the couch in his small living room, too tired to even try.

[ Sorry for the late response, I was quite busy! ]

The neko continued to pace a bit; continuing to take glances at his soon-to-be owner. Very soon to be. Very. Oh how he could not wait to see how things turned out. How long it would take before the other would start to notice all the trouble he'd been making... He was definitely trying to imagine what kind of place is new home would be like. Honestly, he didn't mind much, as long as it had something he could mess around with. Even a simple cushion would do nicely; as long as it wasn't too hard to tear up. Things like those were quite annoying, so to say. And although he liked a challenge every so often, he really disliked things that took so long to mess up or destroy. Things in general were made to be tampered with, so in reality, all his previous owners should have thanked them. As well as for be ridding of some of the worst furniture he had seen; disgusting colors, holes, dirtiness and whatnot. However, even he knew he definitely couldn't count these as good deeds; for even if they were, he hadn't meant them to be.

He liked to cause trouble, and be very mischievous. That's just how he was. Even if he could change his ways; in which, he most definitely could, even he knew that; he wouldn't. Because he liked the position he was in now. Even if he'd probably never find a suitable owner that could deal with him, it was fun. He knew it wouldn't be as fun when he got older; but he was quite youthful now, so he took advantage of that. Deep down, he really did wish for a true owner; one that he felt attached to. His previous owners tended to get mad with him, give him punishments and stuff; and it was never really that bad, but he found that to be quite boring. So he tended to run away; and he'd done this many times. Run away. He knew he would be better off not doing so, but he never felt so attached to one who bought him to the point of where he didn't run away. Which, at times, he wished wasn't the case. He knew he was a neko that craved attention and amusement; and when he wasn't given that, he'd just leave. However; there was one more thing he craved above all: affection. No owner that he had tended to show true and loving affection. Which was one of the reasons he tended to resort to being mischievous; to receive more attention. The attention he got replaced the annual affection he craved, which in turn, led him to start loving attention as well. Which led him to being who he was this very day. Attention wasn't all he began to crave; but amusement, as well. He loved being amused; it was just simply so... thrilling. In his younger years, he was actually quite very timid and shy; but quickly growing out of it as he got older. Having experience with being around others brought a more extroverted side out of him; one that appeased people much more than being shy did. Although some preferred shyness, a lot didn't; because the shy ones were usually more distrusting, as well, which wasn't a trait that a lot of people liked to deal with. Which was quite unfortunate, really; for it felt much better when a distrusting being decided to finally trust you than a trusting being deciding to trust you. However, still, most people didn't see it that way.

The woman chuckled at that; smiling at the boy. The Neko within the case was shaken out of his thoughts; purring softly as the boy spoke. He nodded slowly towards what Kano said; smiling as his tail flicked behind him eagerly. The woman instantly now believed that she quite liked the boy; he was amusing. She chuckled softly at what he said next; her eyes twinkling, "I'm sure he will be!" She called; grinning. She waved as a response to the last thing he said before leaving the shop. Within the case; the neko curled up. He didn't mind transportation too much, but he wouldn't want to be in a cramped area for much too long, to say the least. Yuki blinked as he sat up as he felt his case being set down; waiting until he was set down within the apartment to begin to stretch his limbs. Immediately after his case was unlocked; he walked calmly over to Kano, hopping upon the couch and settling beside him. A couch! I'll look around the place tomorrow, I suppose...
