Night washed over the city of Jasper like a blanket, and the full moon’s light bathed the city in white. As soon as night approached, thousands of tiny lights dotted the skyscrapers, brightening the never-resting cityscape. Cars bustled from point A to point B, pedestrians walked, and drunkards littered the streets. Mortals continued their daily lives, oblivious to the underground that had formed in front of their very eyes. On this night, and every night of the full moon, a simple, but crucial meeting conspired between the non-humans that populated Jasper. Every month until the sun peeks over the horizons, they share secrets with only those who would understand, plotting their next moves, and meeting with old friends. The werewolves meet in the well-known bar, Satan’s Hounds, entering from the backdoor. The vampires gather in the sub-basement of The Bleeding Heart.

Lily always hated these meetings. Although she was on alliance terms with the Kingdom of Night, she hated their philosophies. Letting humans populate a known haven for vampires? Disgusting. She, herself, would never step foot in the Bleeding Heart, unless for business purposes. Lily stalked the streets of Jasper at night, her devoted Coven following behind her. Since there were still humans around, she had instructed her followers to keep a low profile. As they neared the small establishment, she could smell the horrid, human coffee wafting from the counter. It seemed closed, but she still looked inside, wanting to make sure. Lily guided Night’s Ash to the alleyway between the Bleeding Heart and a laundromat, approaching a dirty cement door.
Ethan swept the last piece of trash into the dustpan. After tossing it and putting the broom in the corner, he and another one of his Coven set up the chairs needed for the meeting. Ethan enjoyed the meetings enough; it was a good time to cultivate the alliance he had made with Lily, which was hard, considering her….unique….personality. He did, however, love meeting the new vampires in town, and loved having his fledglings get to know other vampires besides himself. This was also a good time to learn better ways to protect his Coven, and to Ethan, this is what mattered most. “That should be enough, Oliver. Make sure the front door is locked, we wouldn’t want any strays to wonder in.” He wiped his dusty hands on a cloth.
“I could’ve done that meself, ya know.” Oliver dreaded the monthly meetings. He always made a point to stay far away from Lily, as it always brought memories of the horrible thirst he experienced after his abandonment. “Aye, sir,” he replied to his leader, quickly hurrying up the stairs to follow his orders. He grabbed the keys from the keyholder in the office and locked the door. He glanced out into the street, watching people leisurely walk along the sidewalk, emerging from their respective bars and restaurants. Oliver turned the “open” sign to “closed” then closed the curtains around each window. He hurried downstairs, following other Kingdom members.
Josiah stood next to his Alpha, waiting for the others in his pack to catch up. He always tried to stay his closest to her, especially on nights like this, when Bloodsuckers were traveling as well. He was neutral about meetings like this, listening to important parts, but ignoring those who tried to speak to him. He hoped they would at least have some decent food or something, because he was starving. He also found it uncomfortable to have to stay in his human facade for this long of a time, and couldn’t wait to be able to take a short nap before morning came. He glanced at the establishment known as “Satan’s Hounds.” He thought it weird for wolves to congregate in human-like places, but he had to remember that he was considered the weird one in that situation. When everyone caught up, he reflexively opened the backdoor for Noelle.
