  • Ashtar looked at his first mate and chuckled, "I suppose I would have to keep my defense system running constantly," he replied. These UPT guys were clearly up to something, and he was receiving another transmission from his good ol' trading buddies. He ordered his first mate to take a message, because he wanted hear this CEO-fella out.

  • "Now now, don't be hasty! I am more than willing to share this technology with you, at a fair price. I'd have to speak with Long and Eli about it, of course, but - oh, hold on, someone's on the other line." Calabin sighed over the intercom, and the sound of a button being pressed was heard. "Hello? Oh, Long! Is Eli on the other line, too? Put him on then, as well. No, I'm not being bothered, I'm actually in the middle of a potentially major business deal. How are we doing with that subspace bridge? Oh, perfect! That's basically what the deal is about. I hope there are no complaints on your part. None? Good. Then I will give my client the good news.

"Well, friend," and Calabin's tone had a note of triumph to it. "It seems you are in luck. My co-leaders are in favor of the dissemination of our subspace bridge technology. What is it exactly? Well, imagine an orbital space bridge right above your core world, with an exit point to any of your controlled worlds. Just power it up, and you can get to them in a heartbeat. I would like to say that the development of this technology has been tedious, and ridiculously expensive, which is why the Gaber colony will be useful.

"Which brings me to the heart of matter. I will gladly lend you access to this technology, as well as limited control over colonial trade which will be specified in the contract. In return, I request continued UPT occupation and usage of the colony and its access to the allurium mines, which will be needed for future space bridge construction. Perhaps we can establish a trade partnership in the meantime. What say you?"

The trio fleet exited hyperspace above the planet the signals emanated from and prepared to make landing. The crews on the ships were still attempting to decipher them, but they were in a rather choppy and unintelligible dialect that they had their claws full attempting to translate. They continued their descent to the surface despite this, the jungle terrain coming into view.

  • Ashtar almost burst out laughing, the deal was ridiculous. "So, you want me to pay you for a jump gate that I can't even use to jump to any point in space? I would just be able to jump between my already pretty heavily defended planets?" He shook his head, being a militaristic empire, the Ori were always on alert, only resting the Bows on the inner planets to save energy and not risk malfunctions. "However, we could reach a deal on some sort of mutual respect. While you don't come considerably close, you come close enough to pick up our communications, which is still too close for my comfort. Espionage is a real thing, after all."

  • "Oh, of course you can go anywhere with it, but when most of the galaxy being empty systems, not much point to it. Or profit, may I add," Calabin said with a snicker. "But as long as we're paid for it, I don't care how else you use it. Besides that, I'm sure we can reach some sort of peaceful clause. Indeed, I know all about espionage. Rest assured we have no hostile intentions, as mentioned before, and you can sleep at night with that knowledge."

  • Jason looked up in surprised as the lights went out on the ship. The thrusters on the front let out a quick burst to keep it from going forward anymore, so it didn't crash if the power didn't come back on fast enough. "Wonderful... Looks like I'm gonna have to restart the power." Jason started walking to the back while Savi stared out at the planet that was oh-so-close.
He looked at the complicated mess of wires and, instead of going through the hours process to restart the power, he looked at the Element wheel and shot Fire, Earth, Air, and Water into it, starting the backup supply. A slight light came on and he went back to the front, propelling the ship forward again. "Looks like we've added another minute to our trip," Savi said jokingly.

  • Mordale couldn't help grinning as his assistants prepared him to go out in front of the crowd, donning him in the outfit befitting a man of his power, the armor he'd been wearing when he'd returned wasn't exactly up to code for a speech. He stood completely still as they applied blush, he was green himself, and the blush had to match that mostly... it was a necessity he didn't enjoy. It was necessary of course, he wanted to look less pale than he was when the media spread coverage of this. He headed out onto the balcony and looked down at the crowd below, millions were here live and would actually hear his voice right now, and billions sat at home, tuned into this. The planet had a population of twelve billion, and it was mostly concentrated into large metropolises, sprawling cities that stretched for miles... He walked forward to the various microphones set up to transmit his voice to the waiting crowd.

"My Dagon people, citizens, and other government members alike, today we have failed, but we have also succeeded... We have lost a valuable mine, we deemed it too dangerous to continue it, and most prisoners who were working there were set free." There was a collective boo at the lost of the mine, but a deafening, roaring cheer as he announced the release of the prisoners, he raised his hands to quiet the crowd... He wasn't inexperienced with public speaking, and had specifically positioned the two things so that it would end with his approval being shouted, "We have also discovered a new alien life form and defeated them, I myself led the charge to clear out the mine and save the people inside, which upon inspection before detonating it, were mostly alive." Another deafening cheer went up, but this was the end of the speech... it was a short lived one, but it would be remembered, and probably modified to sound greater, over the years. He did the traditional goodbye when addressing such a crowd, kissing two fingers then pressing them to his forehead, bowing deeply before walking off.

  • Last part is for Bobar.

  • Actually it's the planet Jason is headed to that the signals are coming from, not the desert planet... so let's say it's a jungle or forest planet. (Since it's also the one I believe the UPT are intending to colonize)
