• ((I'd like to officially join ShadowClan; hope I'm doing this right))

A little black she-kit tumbled out of the nursery, chasing a small frog across the clearing. "I'm gonna get you!" the kit yowled and pounced, missing the frog. She growled and leaped after it again, yowling wildly and chasing it in circles around the clearing. She sat down grumpily when it disappeared into some bushes with branches too thickly wound together that she couldn't get through. Flicking her tiny tail in disappointment she started to make her way across the clearing, unsure of what to do next.

  • [fancypost=;border:0px;width:450px;text-align:justify;font-size:8pt]( i believe it's called an 'introduction' if you're pretending your character has been in shadowclan the whole time!! :) welcome, though!! <3 )

Oakpaw was uncertain what to do around Shadowclan now, seeing as he'd been given his new name and become a full-fledged apprentice only recently. He'd met up with Ghostdance, his new mentor, after the meeting, though he could tell that the other tom hadn't liked him all that much by the cold look he'd given him as soon as he layed eyes on the measly housecat that he now had to train. The thin tabby had felt as if he was a burden in that moment, but he refused to back down and give up on becoming a warrior, even though he'd been born a kittypet. He would become the best warrior this clan had, he swore on it.

Well... After he completely healed, that was.

Currently, Oakpaw was seated just outside the medicine cat den, grooming his leg gently with his tongue. It was healing quite nicely, and he was beginning to be able to put a bit of pressure on it, though it wasn't enough to walk normally just yet. He was glad to hear the news that it wouldn't scar where the break had been, but he knew the rope burns probably would end up leaving a bit of marred skin. Fine by him, though; maybe it'd remind him of the time he'd joined Shadowclan.

He was examining the cobwebs bundled around his fur when suddenly the yowl of an overly excited kit met his ears, and he looked up sharply, green eyes wide as he focused onto the young she-cat, who appeared to be chasing a frog, though it got away eventually. Aw, bummer. She looked a bit upset. Maybe he could help? "Did you lose it?" he called softly, blinking at where it had vanished, his eyes squinting slightly. His vision was never the best, and the question was legitimate, as he couldn't tell if it was gone or not, though he assumed the former. "I could try and get it back for you, if you want?"

  • ((Ah, thanks. Still trying to get used to the new boards. ^ ^'))

The tiny black kit looked up at the bigger apprentice. "I am Midnightkit, the best hunter in all of ShadowClan ever!" she exclaimed, puffing out her chest and trying to look big - unfortunately, the action only caused her still-fluffy, kit fur to poof out more. "But...it got away...you can't fit through the branches, you're too big! ..But if you really want to, I guess..."

The kit then switched her focus and pounced on the apprentice's tail, batting at it with her soft paws. She broke off when she realised there was something on his leg. "What is that?" Midnightkit squeaked, prodding it. "It's sticky! Is it bad?"

  • hollykit had been watching midnightkit play for a while, absorbed into the giggling and the constant moving. she would have loved to play too but then she'd only go and squish the frog by accident. it always happened when she was involved, not that she minded if she was playing by herself, but when others were around she'd learnt not to try. better that than make someone upset anyway...when she stopped playing and started talking, holly decided to make herself known. mummy said they're called cobwebs. i got stuck in a load once and they wouldn't come off for ages! why do you have them on your leg? i'm hollykit by the way. the talkative kitten voiced slowly, green orbs flitting between the two felines with interest and a smile planted on her maw.

  • Mistheart made her way over, immediately feeling sadness when she saw kits. She hated them so much, and yet it just seemed like such a wrong thing to feel! Ugh. She wondered where Silkpaw had gone off to. The apprentice had often made the insecure Mistheart feel just a little tad better about herself. "We could've done with that frog." She mumbled, intimidated even though the only cats there were two kits and Oakpaw.

  • ((I assume I close this thread now so it won't be too many people on here; I think 4 people is fine :3))

"Eww, where does it come from?" Midnightkit asked, withdrawing her paw away from Oakpaw's leg. "Anyways, it's nice to meet you, Hollykit! I haven't seen you in the nursery...are you going to be an apprentice?"

She looked up when she heard pawsteps approaching. She flattened her ears slightly as Mistheart came into view. It was a warrior! One much bigger than her, too! She opened her jaws to say something, but she had any words she had were stuck in her throat.

// you don't have to close this thread, unless you wanted it to be private! you can have as many people as you want in a thread. The more interaction, the better :)

Snakestar was laying on the Highrock, resting his head upon his paws. He flicked his tail and rested his gaze on the others, green eyes narrowing. There were so many kits. That was good, he supposed. Hopefully they would be too much of a hassle.

  • [fancypost=;border:0px;width:450px;text-align:justify;font-size:8pt]( I'm so sorry for the late replies!!! D: school is swamping me ;w; also, don't think you have to match my muse!!! )

Oakpaw cast his green gaze toward the bushes where the frog had disappeared, lifting himself to his paws and limping toward the she-kit. However, he then passed her, instead of stopping, and made his way to the brush, sniffing at the place where the frog had disappeared, before chuckling; it had gotten away, that was for sure, but maybe he'd be able to find it if he really tried to. "The best hunter in all of Shadowclan ever, huh?" the thin tabby repeated the kit's words in a snicker, leaning back and turning his head to look at her, then shaking his head. "If you were the best hunter ever, I don't think you'd have let that frog get away. Of course, even if I tried, I wouldn't've gotten it either, probably." he chuckled, turning away once again to look at the brush as he heard a soft ribbit, his ears pricking curiously. Maybe he really could find it-

"Ah!" Oakpaw let out a (slightly embarrassing) yelp as Midnightkit suddenly pounced onto his bushy, ringed tail, jerking the limb away from her tiny claws with a quiet huff, his eyes flared wide and something akin to a pout making up his features. He was about to go off on her, maybe say something about how that wasn't nice and how she shouldn't do it again, but the question that quickly tumbled out of her mouth cut him off, and he only rolled his eyes a bit, choosing not to scold her. Before he could even answer, though, Hollykit answered for him. Another huff left his maw. Kits.

"Yes, they're cobwebs. They're not bad, but if they're on a cat it means something bad happened to them. See, I got stuck in somethin' like a trap. The, uh... Medicine... Cat, I think, put 'em on my leg, 'cause 's broken. It's helping this here stick stay put so my leg can heal right. See?" He awkwardly held out his broken leg at the end of the short explanation, his golden bell jingling as he shifted, before setting it back down close to him carefully, offering the two kits a small half-smile. Or maybe it was some sort of grimace. Who knew. His attention left them tough, as his spine prickled; he felt eyes on him. Looking behind himself, he stiffened a bit; Snakestar was watching them all.

The apprentice quickly snapped his eyes away from the leader, his shoulders hunching and his tail bristling slightly. Mistheart, who was mumbling off to the side, caught his attention, and he looked toward her, then back at the bushes, his brows knitting. That frog would benefit Shadowclan? Really? Snakestar was watching... If he got it, would that make the leader proud? Glancing behind him again at the older tomcat, he suddenly lifted himself to his paws without another word, pushing his head into the brambles and sniffing around. There.

The soft croak of the runaway frog caught his attention, and he stiffened as he saw the little thing, halfway hidden under a leaf. If he just caught it... That would maybe make him look more like a real warrior, right? The apprentice paused for a minute as he rocked his haunches back and forth, then suddenly extended his neck, and he was almost shocked at the angry croak that met his ears. Its leg was caught in his jaws! He got it! He struggled to pull himself out of the small hole in the brush for a moment, jaws locked onto the struggling thing, which was much bigger than he thought it was, before he then popped out of the bushes with a muffled yelp, flopping over onto his side. The frog kicked around, letting out a screech that he'd never though would be able to come out of a frog before, but he kept it there, scrambling to his paws to sit with his chest puffed out, the amphibian continuing to writhe around, which, admittedly, looked really dumb and also really funny. "I-I did it, Sna-" he began to say, before stopping as the frog flopped down into the dirt. He'd opened his mouth.

    He was so stupid.

"Kill it!" Oakpaw shrieked as it began furiously hopping toward Mistheart, the young tom's fur bristling and his ears flat. That was supposed to be his thing to impress Snakestar! It couldn't get away, it just couldn't! "Get it before it gets away!" Well. That was a disaster.

  • Mistheart had gotten her hopes up when Oakpaw attempted to catch the frog, but then they were shattered again as the creature escaped. No, more than that, the fluffy she cat was terrified - because the frog was hopping right towards her. She begun to panic. Oakpaw was going to get mad if he missed it, wasn't she? Plus the Clan needed that frog, especially considering that it was Leafbare. "Urgh!" she felt as though her head was going to explode, her short legs trembling. She waited till the frog came right up to her, then attempted to sink her claws into it. They attached for a few moments, but the frog escaped again, hopping around weakly, confused and hurt. "You do it! I'm too weak, heh..."

//and that was the day shadowclan lost faith in oakpaw. I love him though lol

  • ((Rip Oakpaw))

Midnightkit squeaked in dismay as Oakpaw leaped away from her to get the frog. She shook her head back and forth as she tottered back to her feet and watched as Oakpaw leaped on the frog. "Yay, he did it!" she cheered but her joy was cut short when Oakpaw accidentally let the frog go. The tiny black kit looked up at Mistheart. The warrior would be able to get it, wouldn't she? Why was she just standing there? Shouldn't she be getting the frog?

Midnightkit hopped out of the way as Mistheart reached out for the frog, but it escaped her grasp as well.

"I want it!" Midnightkit yowled and pounced on the weakened frog, trying to sink her tiny claws in. The frog veered away from her and she chased it in a circle, missing every time but managing to land a swipe in, knocking it onto the ground. It lay winded before it rolled onto its belly and feebly started crawling away.

  • "Don't celebrate too soon!" Mistheart spat at the kit as they managed to land a blow on the frog, leaving it dazed for a few moments, though it then begun to hop away again. "What are you doing?" She understood that Midnightkit was nothing more than a mere child, but this was just another reason for the fluffy feline's dislike of kits, as well as unintelligent cats in general. It was dangerous to hang out with idiots.

The small she cat stumbled towards the frog, almost slipping over as she did so, then sunk her long, sharp claws into it. The creature struggled, then stopped, though Mistheart still didn't feel confident that it was dead. "Shall I raise my paw? Am I sure that it's dead?" She murmured more to herself than anything, shyness kicking in. She glanced briefly at Oakpaw, but looked away in embarrassment, not wanting to ask him. After all, he had made the same mistake just a few moments earlier.

  • [fancypost=background-color:;border:0px;width:450px;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt]
Snakestar, throughout this whole incident, had only raised an eyebrow in slight amusement. Oakpaw was probably doing the most out of all of them, scrambling around and trying to catch the frog while constantly looking back at him. What in StarClan were they doing? Hunting, obviously, but why were they making such a big deal out of it? He exhaled when Mistheart seemingly caught it and he grunted, not caring if they overheard it or not, "We obviously need more hunting practice."

  • "Can I eat it?" Midnightkit asked, her blue and green eyes wide. "Did we kill it?"

She looked up as she noticed Snakestar watching them. His gaze seemed to pierce right through her fur. She flattened her ears slightly and shuffled her paws. "Um...who is he?" she gulped, looking towards thee ground a little bit. "He seems very important...is he a warrior too?"

  • [fancypost=;border:0px;width:450px;text-align:justify;font-size:8pt]Indeed, throughout the struggle to catch the madly hopping escapee frog, Oakpaw had been bumbling about clumsily on his three uninjured legs, trying desperately to get the dang thing after it had escaped from all of them multiple times, all the while looking wildly toward Snakestar over and over, his eyes flared and the fur on his back and his tail lifted. This was not good. He'd totally failed at catching his first prey, and right in front of the leader that he was trying ever so hard to impress, too. He was turning out to be quite the failure of a warrior.

His striped pelt prickled and felt hot as Mistheart finally seemed to kill the slippery thing, and he stared at its dead carcass for a moment, then ducked his head in response to the leader's mumbled words, embarrassment with a touch of shame coating his features and his whiskers drooping slightly. More hunting practice... He hadn't even gone out once to train in hunting with his mentor yet. In fact, he barely ever saw the guy! Was he avoiding the stupid kittypet that he was forced to be the mentor of? Probably.

Oakpaw lifted his head, looking toward Snakestar again and parting his jaws; however, he then suddenly shut them again. He had been planning on apologizing to the grumpy cat for failing, but chose not to continue to wallow in his weakness, and instead cleared his throat, lifting his head and squaring his shoulders, his brows knitting and a look of determination appearing on his face as he averted his gaze back to the others. If he wanted to be a warrior, he needed to act like one. No more pity.

"I think we killed it, but I dunno if we can eat it." he mumbled in response to Mistheart and Midnightkit, his ear swiveling back to Midnightkit as she asked another question, this time about Snakestar. His green eyes slid to the side to look briefly at the other tom, but he quickly glanced away, kneading at the ground with his good paw. "Uh, he's the leader. Snakestar. He's got authority over all of us." he murmured in a hushed tone, his thick, black-ringed tail curling around his paws.

"But, see, he hates me, so I wanna show him I'm good at bein' a Shadowclanner. That's why I tried to get that frog, even though I've, uh, never hunted ever in my life. 'Cause he thinks I can't hold my own here." Again, he cast his gaze toward the leader, this time narrowing his eyes, his tail thumping against the ground. "I'll show 'em. 'M not dumb, so I'll figure out how'ta be a warrior. But for now, I'm kinda like you. Inexperienced n' stuff." he offered a half smile toward the kit, chuckling softly. "Though, I probably know less than you, honestly."

  • Ah, so that was the leader. Midnightkit had only heard of Snakestar but had never seen him before, having been stuck in the nursery for a while. She could seen powerful muscles under the big tom's glossy pelt and his slightly curled tail held a sinister feeling.

Midnightkit looked up at Oakpaw, dragging her gaze away from Snakestar. How could he say that? Leaders weren't supposed to hate anyone, right? She reached out and placed a paw on his bigger one. "Don't say that," she mewed. "I'm sure he doesn't hate you." She puffed out her chest, trying to look determined. "Don't worry! I will be the bestest-est hunter ever in ShadowClan and i will catch all of the frogs! And the other Clans won't take our prey because I will defeat them all"

((I feel so bad because I can't match your reply lengths ;~;))

  • [fancypost=;border:0px;width:450px;text-align:justify;font-size:8pt]( don't worry! i have a number-of-words goal i force myself to make with each post ;v; the word counter has to say 400 or more or else i can't post! it's just to better my own writing and make sure i try to reply to the best of my capabilities! <3 )

Snakestar, unfortunately, had been the first cat Oakpaw had had the displeasure of meeting. He'd known the sly tomcat for about a single day as a warrior, his name having been Snakehiss, and then he was quickly promoted to leader, skipping right over the deputy bit due to an unfortunate circumstance, which was the death of the old leader, and the disappearance of the deputy, Twoface. So, he could say he wasn't all that scared of he and his sinister appearance and his glossy pelt and his powerful muscles or whatever; Oakpaw knew that, honestly, he didn't exactly hold the experience to even be the leader.

Granted, he knew the older feline would figure it out in time. Honestly, he was doing a pretty good job so far, what with having been thrown into the role, even if he treated ex-kittypets, like himself, pretty badly. But... But Oakpaw knew that he'd prove himself. He would. He just had to keep repeating that in his head until it stuck. Over and over, just repeat it and repeat it and repeat it until it came true.

Best warrior. Best warrior. Best warrior-

He was taken out of his trance by the kitten's touch, and the tabby shook his head a little to disperse his obsessive thoughts, the bell on his collar ringing loudly as he did so. He looked down at her much smaller paw on his own, then back up, and as she spoke, he resisted the urge to chuckle.

"Oh, promise, he hates me. It's 'cause I was a kittypet... And he thinks 'm useless. See, look." Looking up at Snakestar, the apprentice suddenly called loudly, "You hate me, right, Snakestar? Right? I'm useless?" He looked down and away from the leader for a minute, though, as Midnightkit said she'd be the best hunter ever in Shadowclan, and he nodded a little, looking oddly proud of her words. It was a good goal to strive for. She had a good mindset to try and be the best, at least to her capabilities. "Yeah, keep striving for that goal. I honestly think you'll reach it. Maybe we can try 'n hunt together, when you're old enough." Now, back to Snakestar. Hold on, he didn't reply right away! He needed a push. This push was extremely important, 'cause he needed to prove his point. "Snakkkkkeeeeeestar!!"

  • [fancypost=background-color:;border:0px;width:450px;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt]// omg oakpaw
    oak: noTICE ME SENPAI

Snakestar flicked an ear as they kept on looking back at him. He was out of earshot but he was certain that they were talking about him. He was about to get up and confront them when Oakpaw turned his head and yelled, "You hate me, right, Snakestar? Right? I'm useless?" Well, that was quite the accusation. It's not like he had said that he hated anyone aloud... though he was pretty much correct.

    "Snakkkkkeeeeeestar!!"

The black tom folded his ears back at the sudden call and he sent an annoyed glare down to Oakpaw. "You're pushing it." The leader growled. Why was he acting so weird? Maybe he was going insane.

  • [fancypost=;border:0px;width:450px;text-align:justify;font-size:8pt]( tELL HIM HES GOOD HES TRYING TO BE GOOD )

Oakpaw knew he was right about Snakestar's hatred for him. Yes, it wasn't very hard at all to see that. He always continuously glared at him like he was some sort of curse to his perfect clan, and he had a hunch that if he had the chance to kick him out and never ever see him and his stupid face again, he'd take that chance. But, oh well. The most Oakpaw could do, and the most he would do, was continue to keep trying to be his friend, or at least someone he thought was valuable. Hopefully he'd be able to get up to his apparently incredibly high standards.

The tabby's ears flicked upward as the leader sent him a piercing, annoyed glare, paired with a rather disgusted looking grimace, but Oakpaw only sent him a rather dopey smile in response, his brows knitting slightly and his bright eyes scrunching up a little at the corners. "Oh, c'mon, Snakestar. I know 'm pushin' it, but you gotta admit it. I suck, right? See, I tried to catch that frog, 'n I wasn't even able'ta do that." He glanced over to Mistheart and the dead frog, blinking a little and giving his same dumb smile to the warrior, as if saying, 'Thanks for not letting it get away, even though I totally failed at catching it.' Or maybe he just looked like he was smiling and she couldn't tell that he was silently thanking her. Ah, well, it didn't matter either way.

Turning his attention down to Midnightkit, he snickered quietly and nudged her shoulder, then gestured toward Snakestar. "Watch, he'll say it at some point." he whispered, then lifted his head again, shifting his weight to his bad paw. Oh, hey! It was getting a little better. Didn't hurt as much. Anyway, again, back to bothering Snakebutt. "I suck at huntin', and I suck at fightin', and I suck at keepin' my mouth shut. 'Course you've gotta hate me! Say it!"
