  • [is the unknown dragon sirona?]

Sirona stiffened a little when she received the message from Aerah, and she caught Aerah's slight hint of danger. But she couldn't hear anything dangerous. "We are safe. Or is there something that we cannot see?" she asked Aerah. Sirona seemed calm, but Ailin could sense that there was something wrong.

"Are you okay?" Ailin asked Sirona, but she didn't answer. She quickly sweeped her tail over to him, wrapping it around him and lifting him up to place him on her back. Ailin held on tight to the large scales on her back as Sirona launched herself into the air, hoping to meet the dragon who contacted her, and to avoid whatever danger they were in.

  • OOC:

    Yes, sorry.

    IC:

    Zenna and Aerah

"There are hunters in this area." Aerah told the other dragon. "We're above the forest-! "

Aerah broke off as a light dragon burst from the trees below slightly to their left. Aerah and Zenna flew over to the pair who had just shot up from the area below.

"Welcome to both of you." Zenna said with a friendly smile, her blue eyes shining.

    She liked meeting new people.

"I'm Zenna and my partner is called Aerah." she told them. "We're with the Blood-Bound. Obviously. And I take it you two were on your way to join us?"

  • SALAZEL

'Thank you, Claudius.' Salazel's response was accompanied by a toothy grin. 'I would say the same to you, but I'm sure you already know of your strength. I couldn't ask for a better rider.'

Any further conversation was brought to a halt, however, as Bel's instructions reached the fire dragon's ears. 'Hmm. I suppose it's time to leave.' Luckily their current position in the courtyard already had him standing at the centre of the group, so not too much shuffling around was required before he was in position and ready to fly. It was sometimes difficult not to get in the way of other dragons and riders, however, given how many of them there were that had gathered in one place. On more that one occasion he almost flicked his rider with his tail as he turned, and let out a shameless chuckle whenever he did so.

    MYOTIS & MYSHA

Mysha hummed in agreement with Elizabeth's commentary, her eyes going to where Auron and Zakus were waiting some distance away. "Well, we all learn to work with our dragons in our own way," she replied after a couple of beats, "though some people do so easier than others, it would seem. I'm glad Myotis and I got on well when we first met. I can't imagine being at odds with her now."

At her side, Myotis nodded in agreement. Mysha hadn't been the easiest of people to get along with when they had first met, mostly thanks to the reserved attitude the woman had adopted after being separated from her surrogate family. In time, however, both dragon and rider had come to appreciate each other's strengths, and respect each other's boundaries. They shared a Bond that was founded on trust and mutual admiration. Myotis hoped that, given time, Zakus and Auron would also manage to reach this happy medium, despite the current animosity between the pair.

Meanwhile, Mysha's attention was focused on the instructions being issued by Bel in regard to their position in the patrol. Before she could make any move to honour them, however, a flash of alarm interrupted her thoughts and drowned out the ongoing conversation between the other riders. She quickly tried to discern the source of the problem, screwing her amber eyes shut and focusing in on her partner's thoughts. 'What is it, Myotis?'

Concern radiated across the Bond. 'A member of the night patrol just contacted me,' Myotis replied after a couple of moments had passed, turning to face her human companion, 'apparently Hunters have been spotted in the forest at the foot of the mountains - and a new pairing along with them.'

Now it was Mysha's turn to look concerned. "I'll alert the others," she replied out loud, turning to Elizabeth. "It seems we have a situation above the forest to the far east. A member of the night patrol just contacted Myotis; Hunters have been spotted, presumably following the trail of a new pairing that was also seen in the area. We need to get our people in the air - now!"

    BEL

Bel frowned as a pang of fear echoed across the Bond. Now it was her turn to reassure her partner, and she placed her hand against his neck in an effort to do just that. 'We'll be fine. Alone, I might find reason to doubt myself, but together I am confident we shall succeed - and both of us will return home victorious.'

The sound of pattering footsteps interrupted her mental conversation with Nohki, and she blinked as the youngest of the riders skidded to a halt in front of her. The older woman couldn't help the frown that spread across her face at their request; they were very young, after all. Then again, they had become a rider for a reason. If they were not ready to learn the ways of dragons and their riders, then surely the Bond wouldn't have formed at such a young age? Going out on a patrol might be a good learning experience for the girl, especially with the larger number of older riders present who could keep an eye out for her.

"Very well," Bel replied, a small smile spreading across her face. "You can join the patrol, but only if you stick close to one of the older riders and follow any instructions they might give you. Hmm... I believe that Skylar is currently without any other duties. I would like you to report to her immediately, and follow her lead. She is a fine rider, and should do well as a mentor for this patrol."

As she finished speaking, a flash of movement caught her eye. A short distance away, Myotis was unfurling and refolding her wings, apparently distressed about something. A quick glance to the light dragon's rider confirmed that something was amiss; the white haired woman was talking to Elizabeth with great urgency, concern obvious in her expression. Sparing one last nod to Abilene, she shot a wary glance to Nohki and began to make her way over to where the other two women were talking. 'Surely something can't have gone wrong already?'

  • Sirona turned to face Aerah and Zenna as they spoke to them, and Sirona nodded to the two of them. "Are we in danger?" she questioned, skipping a greeting. She was more concerned with safety than having a chat with them.

Ailin did not look at Zenna and Aerah, but he did look in their general direction. "Not to join," he answered Zenna bluntly. "To consider joining. We're fine on our own." He did not seem pleased to meet them, mostly because he didn't like being thrown onto Sirona's back like a doll.

  • Zakus smiled playacting over to Markus and shrugged his hand off gently. "Yeah, eventually..." he said, "It's good that we're together on this, but we should really get going before the sun sets, right?" Zakus glanced over at Auron and Roth, who were not too far apart from one another, and with an agonized sigh, he gestured that he'd be going ahead and moved off to find his weapons. His sword and bow would be strapped to Auron's saddle, but the shield he had strapped to his dragon earlier had come loose and rolled across the courtyard. While he went to fetch it, Auron came up to Markus and laid his head down on his forelegs. "Do you mind if I ask you a small favor, little human," he thrummed, his powerful jaw working a little as his thoughts projected. Behind him the earth was being dented by his nervously bouncing tail, feathers brushing the soft, bright grass and dusting the air with gnats buzzing for human sustenance. Something had been bothering him about what Roth had said. Maybe this was his chance to do something small about some of the points the elder dragon had made.

  • Skylar Primridge & Anil

    ( Twenty-one ~ "Sky" | Twenty-one )

Skylar pushed herself off of Anil and turned to him. Guess it's time to head out. She smiled at him as he shifted to make it easier on her to climb on and then positioned herself comfortably upon Anil's back. Alright, I'm ready. She hung on as Anil bent before forcing himself up into the air with his wings.

Finally! In the air! He spun a bit, rising in the air until he was among the other dragons and riders. Skylar couldn't help but laugh as she held on, feeling the air rush by her ears and her hair being pulled behind by the force. When they were in position, Skylar looked around them at the scenes and others. She loved being high in the air. It was like freedom when she was on the back of Anil. However, this wasn't all fun and games right now. There was a job to do and they needed to be focused.

    Pisces & Lathlaeril

Lathlaeril glanced up at Abilene's sudden entrance, letting out a soft sigh at the girl's enthusiasm. She had no clue what she was signing up for, but he knew letting her come along would benefit both her and her dragon. They needed experience and they wouldn't get that remaining stationary all day every day.

Pisces blinked at the other's question, though nodded her head gently. "Yes, I have felt something like that before. Gaia I have no doubt your rider is out there searching for you, and I'm happy to help you look." She promised, eyes glinting brightly in the sun.

    Claudius

Claudius nodded silently at his dragon, smiling gently at the compliment he received in turn. "I'm glad you like me, Salazel." He passed through their bond as he gave his dragon a gently pat on the neck. He carefully got back onto the dragon after getting down to listen to their plans and positions. He was excited for this mission, ready to get out and do something again.

    Nohki

Nohki nodded at his rider's words, feeling a flare of courage ripple through him. They would be fine with the group, so he would make sure the group kept together. He rumbled quietly in thanks for her reassurance of their safety, turning his attention to the other dragons around them.

The grim dragon lowered his head to observe the young girl that appeared, chuffing in greeting to her dragon. His attention quickly drifted elsewhere, and he was pulled out of his musings when he caught his rider's glance. He moved as though to follow her, though given the space he decided to keep careful watch instead.

  • Abilene and Rhaer
    -x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-
"Yes!" Abi laughed, jumping up and down in excitement. Rhear looked to Nohki in amusement. When the young girl clambered onto his back, he kicked off, gliding up into the sky to wait for the patrol to begin.

Oh Rhear, I'm so excited! Our first patrol! Do you think we're gonna find any Hunters? Abi thought across the Bond. Her dragon replied with a low rumble and We'd best hope not. You and I may be Bonded, but we're not yet trained for battle. Why don't we simply observe for now, yes? Abilene huffed softly, slumping forwards against his furry neck. Everything up to her shoulders disappeared into his thick white mane.
Quite comical. This was normal for her.

    Gaia
    -x-x-x-
Thank you Pisces, this means more to me than you know. The dragoness crooned, standing and opening her massive wings. Taking off while so many people were nearby would be a nightmare. The sheer force of her wingbeats would send more than one human rolling.

  • Elizabeth "Lumen" Carter and Altus

The short haired girl nodded her agreement with what Mysha said. "Yes, I suppose your right. All living things are just different in their own ways, which serves to make every one rider and dragon's relationships all the more different." Her gaze remained in front of her while she watched the unchanging scenery before her.
Altus and herself were what you could call a very rare pairing, in a sense. It truly wasn't often that a rider and dragon came together and were friendly to one another from the beginning. That was probably the main reason why Elizabeth didn't understand why Auron and Zackus didn't have a relationship like her own with Altus. All she could do was offer them her help it seemed, seeing as Auron and Altus were the same breed of dragon. Elizabeth could probably help Zackus with his magic as well if she could spare enough time.

From the corner of her eye, Elizabeth could notice that the was some concern on Mysha's face. She turned her head towards Mysha just before the said person explained what was going on. Elizabeth frowned deeply at this news, a concerned look of her own taking shape. "Of course we have a situation," She muttered unhappily as she now bent over to rummage through one of her saddle bags for a map of the mountains. Altus lashed his tail with unrest, ready to jump into the air at anytime to fulfill whatever task was asked of him. He was not only anxious, but worried as well for the new dragon and rider pair that had been discovered in the east.
Elizabeth turned in her saddle to face Bel and Nohki whom had just made their way over to Mysha, Myotis, Altus and herself. The green eyed girl quickly explained what Mysha had told her only moments prior.

"It seems Hunters have been spotted in the east, presumably tracking what the returning night patrol think is a new rider and dragon pair. I would like to suggest that you send a two pairs to go ahead of the patrol to help out if they can. Of course, it's your choice in the matter, Bel."

Elizabeth's expression was still riddled with worry along with her frown. She was only worried because of the things she knew the hunters were capable of, despite their lack of magic and dragons of their own. She had heard many stories and rumors about the wrath that the hunters wielded, about the dragons they had slain, and to make matters worse, the many dragon and rider pairs they had slaughtered. There had even been an instance a few years ago where she and Altus had been backed into a corner and almost killed. The only thing that had saved them that day was the back up they had received from the Blood-Bound in just the nick of time. If their back up hadn't of gotten there when it did, Elizabeth very well might of been dead and Altus enslaved. She feared that happening to them some day. It was honestly a terrifying thought that could easily keep her up at night.
Back then, however, she was young and inexperienced in the ways of dragon riding; Now she wouldn't allow for such an event to happen to her or Altus.

  • Zenna and Aerah

Aerah looked over at the other dragon.

"Yes." she told her. "It would seem a group of hunters are tracking you and your rider."

"We're your only hope of survival." Zenna told the other rider, noticing how he looked slightly past her and Aerah ,as if he wasn't looking at them but rather in her general direction.

She realized he was blind, but decided not to mention it, although she wondered how a blind rider would be able to protect themselves with the Blood-Bound, never mind alone.

"We'll lead you back to the Blood-Bound." she told him quietly. "It's to the west of here, not too far. Once there, you can decide whether you'd still consider yourself alright on your own or not."

    Markus and Roth

Markus chuckled as Zakus played along. He genuinely felt bad for the other rider that his dragon was so mistrustful of hi. True, the only one Markus really trusted, and who trusted him, was Roth, but then, Markus had been trained to mistrust others and their intentions. He had never really been a team player, but he was slowly learning. So was Roth. He just hoped Auron would give Zakus the chance to learn as well. As Roth took his place in the rearguard and Zakus said he was going to fetch something, Markus was surprised when Auron came over to him and lay down. He was even more surprised when the dragon asked him, a human and not to be trusted in the eyes of this dragon, a favour. Although his expression was his default insolent one, Markus couldn't help feeling a little curious. Finally he nodded.

"Sure, Auron." he said softly, wondering what was on this dragon's mind. "What's this little favor you want to ask of me...?"

He glanced over at Roth, sure the Dark dragon had something to do with this sudden change.

  • Sirona growled quietly. "We will follow your lead," she told Aerah, disappointed that she had not been able to sense the Hunters. "But if Hunters are following us, you should not take us directly there. We should wait for your allies."

Ailin looked annoyed, but he didn't argue. "Fine," he answered. He wanted to meet the Blood-Bound, but he didn't want to be stuck with them. He valued his freedom, even if it meant that he was avoiding what most considered his fate and duty as a rider.

  • Zenna and Aerah

Zenna nodded and smiled at the other dragon.

"You're right." she said, then turned to the other rider. "I know you don't know or trust us yet... but going to and joining the Blood-Bound really is your best hope right now."

    Aerah turned to her rider.

"Leave him be, Zenna." she said. "Everyone has the right to choose their own path."

  • BEL

Bel frowned as she processed the information, her heart sinking in her chest. A Hunter attack - and on her first time leading a patrol, too! It was a disaster waiting to happen, the warrior was sure, but there was nothing to be done about it now but act. "If you two could fly ahead, I would greatly appreciate it," she said in response to the other woman's suggestion, nodding to both Mysha and Elizabeth. "Explaining the situation to another pair would waste precious time, I fear. While you two fly, I'll gather the rest of the patrol and get us in the air. Good luck."

With that final statement, she offered both of the riders a swift nod, then turned back to the group as a whole. "Listen up, everyone!" she called out over the noise of the remaining riders, "I need everybody who is still on the ground to get in formation and take to the skies. Our assistance is needed in the east - be prepared for conflict."

Her attention fell on Nohki, and she met the grim dragon's gaze with steely determination. 'It looks like trouble has found us already,' she projected, an apologetic tone accompanying her words, 'but I still believe that we will see victory this day.'

    MYOTIS & MYSHA

Mysha nodded in response to Bel's instructions, then turned to face Myotis and Elizabeth. "Let's go," she briefly paused to say, before continuing to mount her draconic companion; in no time at all the experienced rider was ready to fly, one hand gripping the pommel of her saddle while the other rested against the crossbow at her side. Below her, Myotis shuffled on the spot, shaking her wings loose and stretching her legs. The sunlight caught the light dragon's pale yellow scales, setting them aglow, and her sightless white eyes were focused on the distant mountains.

With one great downwards push of her wings, Myotis leaped into the air. Mysha leaned forwards in the saddle as they climbed upwards, over the compound and the valley below. They wheeled in the sky for a moment, waiting for Elizabeth and Altus to join them, before continuing on their way. Myotis made sure to keep her mind clear, so that she would know the moment another dragon tried to contact her. In this race against time - and Hunters - she needed to keep her wits about her.

    SALAZEL

Salazel let out a rumble of contentment, glad to have a rider such as Claudius. Having seen the way some of the other riders and dragons interacted in the Blood-Bound, he considered himself very lucky indeed. The fire dragon's mental response was lost, however, as another rider's voice caught his attention, and he paused in his shuffling to listen to what they had to say. 'Uh oh', he commented over the Bond, 'Looks like one of your human friends has run into trouble already. Never a dull moment in this place, hmm?'

He watched as the other dragons around him began to join their brethren in the sky, and let out a huff of smokey air. 'I suppose we better get going,' he continued, twisting his head to look at Claudius. 'Are you ready, rider of mine?'

While waiting for a response he unfurled his orange-flecked wings, readying for takeoff. There was more room to move now that the patrol was finally taking to the air, and Salazar was soon ready to fly.

  • Illium & Hirador

The rhythmic thumping of Hirador's wings and the howling of the wind was all that filled Illium's ears. It was a pleasant sound and one he welcomed into his morning. They had flown all through the night, and he had fallen asleep in the saddle. "Do you need to land, Hirador." He spoke through the bond.

Hirador had slept through the night whenever he had encountered an updraft to keep his strength up. "I have slept enough already, we can continue flying until noon, then we must find shelter." he responded in kind.

"Wait. You slept while flying." Illium shouted into the wind, too bewildered to keep the conversation within their minds.

Hirador's chest rumbled with laughter as he continued along the mountain range. They had been flying from mountain to mountain in an attempt to find the Blood-Bound but to no avail. He was beginning to doubt the existence of the Blood-Bound. He believed in Illium though, and in humanity. Humans may be the reason they needed to find the Blood-Bound, but Illium had taught him that they were not all bad.

"Do you think we will find it today" Illium shouted over the wind. They had a pattern to this conversation, he would ask Hirador questions and Hirador would ignore them. He played with ice, spinning it around his hands, training his magical concentration. Occasionally some of the ice would slip away and fall to the earth below. Hirador would mock him at these times, telling him they would run out of fresh water.

  • Zakus and Auron

Auron huffed and a trail of smoke filled the air between him and Markus. He leaned in close as if it would help to keep their telepathic conversation more quiet. It was a rather useless gesture, but it felt right for the situation.
"I was wondering if you would help me train that useless rider of mine," he grumbled lowly. "Roth convinced me that I should help the boy, but I am not a rider myself. I cannot seem to get through to him. Maybe someone more," -he scowled almost noticeably- "on his level would be capable of that."
He shifted nervously and an apologetic huff puffed out to let the rider know he didn't really mean it in a degrading way. At least he thought he didn't. He wasn't quite sure just yet.

Zakus grabbed the fallen shield up of the ground and with the sleeve of his shirt, he scrubbed a smudge of dirt off the shiny metal. Grass stains coated the luster, but a smudgy green face still reflected back to him. He smiled and his reflection smiled back with grass stains in his teeth. With a shiver of humorous revulsion (though no one was watching), the shield was tucked under Zakus' arm and he was making his way back to Markus and... Auron? The smile disappearing from his face, Zakus increased his pace so he could overhear the end of their muted conversation.

  • Ailin was looking increasingly insulted by Zenna, and right when he was about to explode was when Aerah intervened in their conversation. That was when he decided it best to hold his tongue and change the topic: "We should kill the Hunters." He turned his head toward the light of the sun, then down at his dragon, Sirona. "We might have said something. What if they overheard something important?" Sirona made a puffing sound, acting as if she thought he was being rash and stupid, but she had to admit to herself that he had somewhat of a point. Perhaps the Hunters had learned some important information through following them; in which case, the Hunters needed to be contained at the least.

"Wait for the rest of the Blood-Bound to arrive," Sirona warned Ailin, knowing that they were not suited to make such important decisions on their own. Ailin was about to argue, but Sirona cut him off: "We are the ones who led them this far. We will only make the situation much worse."

  • Markus and Roth

Markus raised an eyebrow at the thinly veiled insult from the dragon and pursed his lips slightly, but did not comment. After all, sometimes people (and dragons) said something in a way they did not mean. He had to bite back a smile at how the Thunder dragon had leaned in before relaying his request, as if relaying a conspiracy.

"I'm not exactly sure what it is you want me to do?" he finally spoke. "Do you want me to spar with him? Because, unfortunately, I can't help him with the magic... that comes from the bond and is unique to each dragon species."

    Markus then smiled slightly.

"I don't know what Roth told you, but it seems to have made an impression." Markus said. "I'll help you by sparring with Zakus, if you want. But know this- you two will have to work out your issues on your own. Roth and I weren't unlike the two of you. We bumped heads... but eventually learned to work together- tenuously it's true... but that cautious tension gradually grew to be trust and friendship."

He could sense Zakus coming and smiled.

"The same can happen with you and your rider, Auron." he said. "You just... both have to work on it."

    Zenna and Aerah

Zenna huffed and crossed her arms. She could sense that the other rider was upset about something She looked towards the forest below as she spoke to him.

"Look, I'm sorry, stranger." she told him, having given him her name, but not received his in turn. "I'm sorry if what I told you has upset you for some or other reason, but it's the truth,. You're safer with the Blood-Bound. Alone you're a sitting du- AERAH ROLL!"

Startled by her rider's sudden scream, the Soul dragon did as commanded, Zenna clinging to her saddle pommel, as an arrow whizzed in the air between the two dragons, barely missing Aerah's stomach. As they straightened, Zenna growled lightly.

"That was too damned close." she muttered. "Dammit! They have long bows! Aerah, evasive manoevers and contact the Bound and tell them to get their asses moving!"

"Who do you want me to contact." the soul dragon asked.

"Anyone. Everyone! I don't care, but they have to know of the danger." Zenna answered, turning to the other dragon and rider. "We're going to try and lure them to the south. Follow us... if you guys want to live."

Aerah took off in the direction Zenna had said, contacting Myotis again, as this was whom she had spoken to before.

Myotis, heads up. she told the other dragon. The hunters have long bows. Our position has been compromised. We're heading south.

  • Ailin ducked his head down, holding onto Sirona tightly as she took off after Aerah and Zenna. She flew higher than they did, knowing that the Hunters couldn't reach them if they ascended high enough, and Ailin braced himself for the biting cold. Once they were high enough, Sirona turned herself around, blindly firing balls of plasma back at where they had come from before stopping and allowing herself and Ailin to calm down. "When back up arrives, we're fighting," Ailin told Sirona, and Sirona didn't bother to argue with him.

  • Zenna and Aerah

As the flew, Zenna looked back but didn't see the new dragon and rider.

    "Hey... where are-"

"Slightly above us to the right." the soul dragon answered her rider, using an updraft to lift herself higher as well.

Zenna watched as plasma balls came out of know where in a rather haphazard fashion as if whoever was shooting wasn't entirely sure in which direction the threat had come from. At first Zenna had thought it was the blind rider, but then she saw it was the dragon.

Is she...? Zenna asked Aerah privately through their bond so the other two wouldn't be able to hear.

Did you only notice now? Aerah sounded amused. Yes, it would seem dragon and rider have a lot in common.

Zenna turned to the other dragon and rider.

"We'll continue south, then double back." she told them. "Those plasma balls just gave away our position."

She bit her lip for a moment.

"Also, if it's not too much to ask... may we ask for your names?" she said. "It's a little strange with you knowing ours and us not knowing yours..."

  • Illium & Hirador

"The forest is burning." Hirador calmly mentioned to Illium through the bond. "It appears that some hunters are down there. Should we move to engage them."

"Of course we're going to engage them. Hunters typically don't cause forest fires as sporadic as that one, so there must be a dragon down there" Illium replied excitedly. It had been awhile since his last run in with a group of hunters and he was growing stiff in the saddle. It was time for him to stretch his legs.

Hirador was also very eager to fight. As soon as he knew that Illium was on the same page as him he folded his wings in and dropped into a dive towards the hunters group.

"This time, can you pull out of the dive before we slam into the ground" Illium joked, remembering the time they had slammed into a frozen lake, the impact had hurt like hell and the water was freezing, the only thing that had saved him from freezing to death was the resistance to the cold he had picked up from Hirador. Now they were barreling towards the ground, which was a solid.

Hirador snorted in amusement "We will have to see." They were close to the ground now. Hirador unfolded his wings as the first arrows reached them. They bounced and splintered harmlessly across the dragon scales and Illium hugged closer to Hirador's neck, knowing his heavy woolen cloak did not offer him the same protection.

Hirador unleashed a freezing torrent from his maw in a wide arc. Anyone unlucky enough to be hit directly by the blast would be frozen solid, while those caught near the edge of the blast would be peppered with shards of ice. Screams erupted from those wounded by the blast but the arrows kept coming.

Illium rappeled off of Hirador's back and dived into cover, arrows already trained on him. "I'll look for and wounded dragons or riders from the ground, you just keep doing what your doing." he relayed back to Hirador. He then focused on his right forearm and laughed a little nervously. Guess he couldn't dodge all the arrows. He snapped the shaft off and froze the wound trying to slow the poison that was already tingling through his arm. "Well this just got harder"
