A world home to dragons might sound like a wonderful thing, but, like any, it is not without its problems. In this particular world, humans and dragons used to work together to explore and expand their knowledge, with humans known as 'riders' acting as the medium between the two races. Riders were partnered with a specific dragon, and the two beings in that partnership shared a Bond that was unparalleled by anything else. The pair shared everything; thoughts, magic, and might were all distributed across the Bond.
Now, things have changed.
The number of dragons and riders has been decreasing, with nobody sure how or why, and war and famine has lead to a rising number of deaths in the human populace. Human and rider tensions have reached a new high, resulting in humanity finally striking against the riders and their draconic counterparts in a fit of jealous and panicked rage. Not all humans agree with the 'us-against-them' mentality the majority have adopted, but already too many people now blame the dragons for the world's problems. Riders and dragons are accused of stealing food and wasting precious resources, while humans as a whole are now being demonised by the draconic populace. The magic channelled by riders that was for so long considered a gift among humans is now considered a curse; people are killed for possessing less in these dark times.
With riders being driven out of human settlements and dragons hunted down, factions have started to form. The more radical humans have grouped together as the MONSTER HUNTERS, while the rebel riders have taken up the name of the BLOOD-BOUND. The number of neutral parties are fast dwindling, as people everywhere are pressured into picking a side and taking up arms.
PLOT: Our character are members of the Blood-Bound, being riders or dragons. They will have to work together to try and find a way to stop the growing conflict between their allies and the non-magical human populace. Some people believe that they should seek out the Wish Dragon (see spoiler below for more details) for aid, while others believe that they should simply stamp out the Hunters once and for all. It will be down to our characters to decide on a course of action and work together to execute the final plan.
TYPES OF DRAGON:
type;; breath aspect // other info and abilities // spaces available // spaces taken
FIRE;; fire // One of the common dragon types, these dragons are often the biggest of their brethren. They sport heat-resistant armour, and can breath fire in a cone or as a ball of hot plasma. These dragons are thought to be one of the more quick-witted types, and have very sharp memories. Their scales are fiery (reds, yellows, and oranges) and their tails are forked. // unlimited spaces // 4 taken
EARTH;; magma // One of the common dragon types, and the only one to function better when they are on the ground rather than soaring above it. They can manipulate the earth under their feet and around them, hurling boulders and shaking mountains. These dragons are often the most physically strong of any type, and also have the strongest armour. Their scales are earthy (browns, greens, and oranges), and their tails are spiked. // unlimited spaces // 2 taken
AIR;; storm winds // One of the common dragon types, these dragons are often the smallest and lightest around. Their size allows them to fly at great speeds, with their ability to influence the winds around them increasing their natural agility in the air. Their breath produces gusts of gale-force wind capable of pushing other dragons out of the sky. Their scales are often pastel (pale blues, pinks, and lilacs) and their tails are feathered. // unlimited spaces // 3 taken
WATER;; scalding water // One of the common dragon types, and the only one able to function just as well underwater as they do in the air. They can breath while submerged, and influence large bodies of water. Water dragons from the far north or south can even create ice, with their breath being ice shards rather than scalding water. Their scales are oceanic (blues, greens, and turquoises) and their tails are finned. // unlimited spaces // 3 taken
THUNDER;; electricity // A relatively uncommon dragon, thought to be a descendent of the air type. These creatures can manipulate and attack with electrical energy, and have been known to work with air dragons to create storms. They are not as fast as their close relatives, but they do have better natural armour. Their scales are stormy (greys, dark blues, and yellows) and their tails are feathered. // 2 spaces available // 3 taken
DARK;; acid // An uncommon type of dragon, and one with a somewhat sinister reputation. Their natural rivalry with light dragons is legendary, with the resulting conflict often being blamed on this type. They are able to manipulate shadows to an extent, and have the ability to camouflage themselves against their surroundings (though this is far from infallible, and isn't the same as turning invisible). Their acid attacks are quite corrosive, and can eat their way through most organic materials given time. Metal and synthetic material is more resistant. Their scales are smokey (obsidians, purples, and acidic greens) and their tails are spined. // 0 spaces available // 3 taken
LIGHT;; plasma orbs // An uncommon type of dragon, and one with a reputation for being just and fair. Their natural rivalry with dark dragons is legendary, and the biggest source of draconic conflict in the world today. The plasma orbs created in their breath explode after a certain period of time, or after coming into contact with a solid surface, creating blinding flashes of light. These dragons are (ironically) completely blind, which means that they are not affected by their own attacks. To compensate for their lack of sight, the rest of their senses are heightened, and they navigate by a combination of scent and sound. These dragons are very intelligent. Their scales are pure (whites, golds, and yellows) and their tails are split at the ends. // 0 spaces available // 3 taken
SOUL;; none // Known as the dragons of life, these creatures can heal and protect other living creatures should they choose to. Their healing ability extends to almost any ailment, with more deadly wounds taking longer to heal. They can also 'bless' one other dragon with increased vitality and endurance for a brief amount of time each day. There are rumours that these dragons can bring the recently deceased back to life - true life - under special circumstances. These dragons are incredibly rare. Their scales are radiant (golds, silvers, and whites). // 0 available // 1 taken
GRIM;; none // Widely thought to be the dragons of death, they can sap the life force from other living creatures, leaving them physically weakened and mentally drained. Upon death, they rise again as wraith-like creatures, and will continue to follow their riders commands (or follow basic instincts if their rider is dead) until their undying body deteriorates to the point at which it can no longer function. There are rumours that these dragons can communicate with the dead under special circumstances. These dragons are incredibly rare. Their scales are dark (bronzes, blacks, and coppers). // 0 available // 1 taken
WISH;; none // Often believed to be a myth; nobody has seen a wish dragon in centuries. They are also known as 'luck' dragons, as they are thought to bring good fortune to their allies, and are able to grant wishes to other sentient beings. It is now believed that there is only one wish dragon left, who watches over the land and gifts good fortune to those deserving. Their scales are said to be iridescent, and shine with many colours. // No spaces available // May be a space available in future // At the moment this type primarily exists for plot reasons haha
OTHER INFO: From birth, a human destined to have a draconic companion shows signs of magical prowess. As they grow their magical abilities do too, until they eventually become more aligned with the type of their dragon. At this stage, usually in their late teens or early adolescence, they begin to feel the call of the Bond. The Bond is a vital thing for riders and dragons; it is the thing that connects them, and the thing that allows them to locate one another when they come of age. Only death can break this Bond, driving any rider or dragon left behind into an unnatural solitude. Until recently, the unnatural breaking of a Bond was an absolute taboo. Dragons and riders, left unchecked, would die a natural death together after their time had passed, and any interference in this was punished severely.
The bond itself is what allows riders to channel the same kind of magic as their dragon. For example, the rider of a fire dragon will be able to manipulate small fires, while the rider of a grim dragon might exert a draining aura to weaken their enemies. Some riders take it upon themselves to train for physical combat too, with some learning how to wield a sword or bow. The bond also allows riders to mentally communicate with their dragon, which is how a pair will locate each other when they come of age.
Dragons hatch at the same time as their rider is born. This means that some eggs can go for years - even centuries - before hatching. After hatching they grow and mature at a relatively fast rate, with their own abilities developing alongside their riders. By the time the two meet, they are usually in their late teens or early adulthood. Dragons will usually hatch in small colonies, protected by older dragons until they are old enough to fend for themselves. At that point, some set out on their own while others form small groups for greater protection. Dragons can mentally communicate with each other, though this connection is nothing like the sharing of thoughts and emotions that the Bond allows dragons and their riders to do. Dragons all have a similar build (reference here), though the colouration of their scales and certain other features differ from type to type. See the spoiler above for more details.
The world in which this roleplay is set is a traditional fantasy one; swords and shields are the norm, and towns and cities are decidedly medieval. To the far north and east there is a great mountain range (where the Blood-Bound's base is loacted), while to the south there is marshland that eventually leads to an ocean. To the west the land becomes flatter (this is where most of the human settlements are) and eventually becomes a dense, wild, woodland.
THE RULES:
- All Feralfront rules apply.
- No godmodding or powerplay.
- This thread is semi-advanced to advanced, so please write at least a paragraph (3+ sentences) per post.
- For every rider you must create a dragon, and vice versa. You can either play a rider and their partner dragon by yourself, or you can collaborate with other users so that, for example, you play the dragon bonded with another user's rider.
- You can have multiple dragons and riders, as long as you keep up with each character. Only one 'rare' dragon is allowed per user, too.
- I will not be accepting reservations for those dragons with limited numbers.

NAME: Mysha Graves
AGE: 24
GENDER: Feminine
SEXUALITY: Asexual
APPEARANCE: Reference here
PERSONALITY: quiet, tenacious, quick-witted, grudge-bearing, adaptable, decisive, disciplined, self-concious, unsentimental, pessimistic, self-critical, serious, mistrustful, vindictive
DRAGON: Myotis
SKILLS: Mysha is more skilled in martial combat than she is magically. Her life as a wanderer made learning some form of defence a necessity, so she is relatively strong in hand-to-hand combat, while also having some experience in using a crossbow as a form of ranged defence. Her magical abilities extend to night vision, and the ability to momentarily blind her enemies if she gets close enough to tag them.
HISTORY: For most of her life Mysha lived with a group of human traders, travelling across the land from town to town. For a while her magical talents were seen as a boon, or a gift, as they often came in useful when the caravan was forced to travel through the night. Unfortunately, the general attitude towards magic was already starting to turn sour in her late teenage years, and in the cities that the caravan visited she was often met with hostility thanks to her status as a future rider. When it reached the point that the trading group as a whole began receiving threats from humans angry of their alliance with her, she was asked to leave in order to protect the caravan. After spending four years as a wanderer, taking bounties and occasionally treading outside the law in order to survive, she finally met Myotis on her 22nd birthday and their Bond was forged. Her travels with the wily light dragon eventually led her to the Blood-bound, which is where she is today.
OTHER: None
NAME: Myotis
TYPE: Light
AGE: 24
GENDER: Feminine
PERSONALITY: wise, forgiving, tenacious, adaptable, fair, sensible, serious, quick-witted, loyal, curious, intelligent, wily
RIDER: Mysha Graves
HISTORY: Before meeting Mysha and forming the Bond, Myotis spent her life travelling with a group of light, fire, and earth dragons who hatched at the same time as herself. They spent most of their time exploring the wilds, then later, avoiding hunters. Their group got smaller and smaller as time went on, until the remaining dragons (including Myotis) went their separate ways in order to find their Riders.
OTHER: Myotis has a large scar on the underside of her back right leg, the result of a fight with a dark dragon when she was younger. Also, I found a good image ref. for what I think light dragons would look like: here
NAME: Bellamina 'Bel' Smyth
AGE: 26
GENDER: Feminine
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
APPEARANCE: here (warning: a bit of blood), and here
PERSONALITY: strong-willed, protective, stoic, brave, unyielding, courageous, risk-taking, socially inept, empathetic, impatient, tenacious, stubborn, self-righteous, bold, outspoken; she probably isn't what you'd expect from a rider of a grim dragon, having adopted an almost heroic reputation over the years.
DRAGON: Nohki
SKILLS: Bel is definitely a heavy-hitter, calling upon her impressive physical strength to win fights more often that not. She favours the bastard sword, occasionally alongside a shield. Complimenting her brute force tactics is the sole magical ability shared through her Bond: her draining aura, which eats away at her opponents will to fight and live. The aura is limited by range, and the effects lessen the more people she attempts to use it on. Before meeting Nohki, it was her unintentional use of this ability that garnered her a reputation of someone to be feared in battle. These things combined make her dangerous to face in close-quarters combat, though she is a much smaller threat when challenged from afar. Her ranged ability is limited, as she is not a very good shot, and her eyesight is rather poor (though she'd deny it if asked).
HISTORY: Before meeting Nohki, Bel travelled the kingdom as a wandering adventurer/paladin. She would often go out of her way to protect anyone who needed it, both human and rider alike, and managed to support her way of life by collecting bounties on bandits, thieves, and the like. She garnered a reputation for being a hero of sorts, though the life she lead was a lonely one.
When her father died (the only member of her family that she grew up knowing), she became isolated and shunned for possessing a power she did not even know she had. Not realising that the thing that was pushing people away - making them feel weak and fearful when around her - was her growing magical ability, she left her hometown and began a new life on her own. It was at this point that she became the person she is today, as she was determined to show the people she met that she could do good, and be a good person no matter what they might think of her. It wasn't until she met Nohki that she realised the truth about her past, and the real reason that she could never get close to anyone for very long: she was the rider of a grim dragon. From that day on she worked with Nohki to hone and control her powers, and now she enjoys a life around other people as a member of the Blood-Bound.
OTHER: None.
NAME: Salazel
TYPE: Fire
AGE: 26
GENDER: Masculine
PERSONALITY: good-humoured, patient, cunning, curious, empathetic, quick-witted, loyal, compassionate, kind when it counts
RIDER: Claudius Britton Morridian
HISTORY: Salazel grew up as the youngest (by a couple of minutes) of his brothers and sisters, who he later went on to travel and live with. Constantly teased by his older siblings for his (relatively) small size and weak magical ability, he eventually left them to fly alongside a water and a light dragon, instead. It was here that he truly grew and matured, thanks to the support of his two closest friends. Eventually they went their separate ways to find their riders, but Salazel hopes that he will one day get the chance to meet them again.
OTHER: He is a good bit smaller that your average fire dragon, and not as strong, either, though he has worked on honing his fire magic to compensate for this. He is a very good shot, which nicely compliments his rider's skill in close-quarters combat.
