  • their name is zilch, an accurate representation of both their parents as well as themselves. the void and death; oblivion. they themselves aren't even real, not in their own mind. rather, they are a creature pieced together on the whim of some higher being, composed of stars and shadows and nothing. they are not alive, they are not dead. they just are.

but at the same time, they are everything. they are every gender, every sexuality. their species is ambiguous yet reminiscent of canines, felines, and every mammal in between. their physique is constantly shifting, though they do tend to prefer forms akin to the aforementioned. in fact, most often they can be compared to a wolfish creature, one that is notably scraggly and not quite as regal as one would expect from such a being as them; it simply attests to their contradictory nature. there are very little constants in their shadowy, starry semblance other than that; they enjoy experimenting with their configuration, sprouting fangs or horns or massive wings without a second thought and discarding them just as quickly. identity isn't very important to them, unsurprisingly or not; they will accept any name, any pronouns, any mate or friend or foe. they do not care who you are, so long as you pique their interest. you could be a killer or the kindest person on earth — such earthly affairs are the least of their concerns.

due to the circumstances of their creation, it is impossible for them to die; their body is nothing but murky shadows and stardust, not solid in the slightest. should one attempt to touch them, their paw would merely phase through as though they were reaching for a cloud. they are unharmed by assaults as a result, leaving them rather cocky and reckless; what good is worrying when there's no pain to be felt? granted, attacks on their mind are certainly effective, though they prefer not to dwell on such things.

from this inability to perish as well as their otherworldly heritage also stems a rather nihilistic attitude; their morals are rather lacking, as they know that they will live on indefinitely without punishment for their actions. they have so much time — anything they do or say will eventually be forgotten, no matter how severe. so why sweat the little things and worry about something so trivial as a reputation? instead they are essentially shameless, speaking their mind and doing as they please with little regard to any rules set by the mortals they live amongst. they enjoy toying around as a result, testing their limits and playing with the emotions of others; they have a tendency to view mortals as nothing more than objects, expendable sources of entertainment. they are indeed capable of forming attachments, of course — just not very frequently. their admiration is difficult to receive, their loyalty even more so. they look out primarily for themselves and have no qualms with leaving even those they are friendly with in the dust, because in the end those they grow close with will likely end up six feet under anyway.

though they desire tranquility they are ultimately one of the more chaotic beings you will come across. their temper is highly unpredictable; one moment they'll be smiling and enjoying themselves, and the next they'll be shouting insults and threats. one must walk on eggshells when dealing with them, for even the slightest offenses will likely set them off. indecisiveness is another key trait of theirs; they are frequently changing their mind and going back on their word, making promises they are unable to keep due to their inability to set their sights on a single goal.

they feign ignorance and indifference when it benefits them, especially when it comes to the circumstances of their creation; though it has left them cocksure and rather full of themselves, the implications of immortality are a bit difficult for them to think about. the thought of continuing on as their comrades fall is a daunting one, as is the fact that they don't know if there can or ever will be an end to their existence. eternal life scares them, because while everything is changing rapidly around them they know they will remain the same as always. people will die, land will crumble, everything they know will eventually collapse. and yet they will live on. it's another thing they try their best to avoid thinking about; stress and deep reflection are perhaps their worst enemies, and they will do anything in their power to do anything but. and in a way, they are envious of mortals (though they would never acknowledge it) despite how lowly they regard them, especially any "siblings" of theirs that turn out normal, even if only somewhat, because one day they will perish and their suffering will end. they have a means of escape, a way out that they can access at any given time. they can end it all on a whim or with careful consideration, while zilch is stuck here until death decides to end it all, forced to roam and befriend, leave and repeat. an endless loop, one which they fear they may never escape.
