    » [b]"MIA"
    [img width=200]http://dtc-wsuv.org/avacca/por…images/horizontalline.png[/img]

Mia is a recent college graduate, working a terrible part time job while searching for a full time job. Things aren't going so well for her, and one day she comes home to the landlord of her apartment kicking her out since she was late more than once on rent. Your character , her neighbor who Mia often speaks to in the apartment , sometimes even babysitting his child (a single dad, still getting over the death of his wife a year prior, and struggling with taking care of the child) overhears the conversation and offers to let her stay in his spare room in his apartment while she gets back on her feet. Mia is eternally grateful, and soon the living arrangement works out well. Since y/c is often busy with his job, he has a hard time balancing that and his child. Mia ends up helping out a lot. Taking the kid to school/preschool, making dinner, cleaning up the apartment etc. Mia even brings a sort of light to the apartment, to their lives, and y/c who lost himself in his work due to grief begins to open up again, and learns what he's missing. A connection blooms between the adults, a friendship, and eventually a romance.

I just want this to be a cute little romance plot with your character being a little busy and broken and struggling after losing his wife, but still being a kind and good dad to his kid. We can throw in complications like Mia having a BF or her eventually moving out so to a job far away, etc. but I'd love for it to be a slow burn. Everything about the child is completely up to you but I don't mind roleplaying them if you need me to!

All I ask from you is that you're a) active b) adv (multiple paragraphs) That's it! Claim away! I can do duplicates if more than one are interested in this
  • There are some days that start out so well, and you feel optimistic and happy. But then there's that one small turning point that brings everything crashing down. For Mia, it was one of the customers she had at one of her tables at the restaurant. Yes, recent college graduate with a bachelors and masters to be an elementary school teacher was a mere waitress. She'd had the job for a couple of years and expected to quit once graduating and getting a better paying job , but nope.

So some teenage guys came barreling in around the last hour of her shift. They smelled a little funky, and attempted to get her to serve them alcohol. Of course none were old enough - but they seemed to already be drunk or high or both. Mia put up with the rowdiness with a fake smile on her face, until they started making some rather unpleasant comments when they thought she couldn't hear them. So, Mia eventually spun around and told them off. And her manager fired her on the spot.

Mia was glad to go though, if her manager was gonna let people talk like that to workers, perfect. Panic didn't really settle in until the bus ride home. She was already late on rent, and now she had no income. Finding a job was so so hard. Looking forwards to taking a hot shower and curling up in bed with a book, she dragged herself into her building and up the elevator to her floor.

As if things couldn't get worse, there was a note on the door saying she needed to leave the apartment immediately. At that moment, the landlord exited her neighbors apartment, having collected her rent when he saw Mia. He gave her an apologize look. "Mr. Johnson please - I know I'm late. I just got fired today. I have a couple hundred right now just please - I need a little bit longer," she begged, starting to go after him as he headed to the elevator.

"Mia I've asked for rent twice already. You owe me two grand. A couple hundred is not going to cut it. I'm going to have to ask you to move your things as soon as tomorrow morning or I will take action. Leave your keys in an envelope on the counter of your apartment" he stepped into the elevator and the doors started to close. "Please Mr. Johnson!"she called one last time but the doors shut.

Mia kicked the wall in frustration and put her head in her hands, screaming into them. Where was she supposed to go? Her parents were across the country, and none of her friends had any room to spare in their apartments. She fumbled for her keys to get inside, wanting to be inside her apartment before she had a meltdown.

  • It was late, again. His kids were getting frustrated with this, but it had been almost a year since the death of his wife Sarah. Alec was in his mid/late-20s. He and Sarah had gotten married right out of high school and had a very stable system for their daughter. Alec was 27 and he had a daughter, Zara. Zara is currently only five years old. Making her way to young to stay home alone. Zara was in kindergarten and luckily for Alec he had been able to work it out that his mother would pick her up from her school and stay in his apartment until he got off work. Alec, despite his daughter, threw himself into his work after the passing of his wife.

That wouldn't have been to bad a thing, but he had been promoted again and again. He brought home a steady income, but he barely had time for his daughter. On the days that he worked late it was especially hard to find someone on short notice to find a sitter. That is where his neighbor helped out astronomically. Alec lived in an apartment with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. He had chosen it for Sarah and him as they wanted to have two kids, but a drunk driver cut those plans short. The accident was awful. She was on her way home when it happened and she was coming home from getting takeout. Alec had blamed himself for month after her death. What if he had gone to get the food? Alec didn't have the luxury or the time to think about any of that now.

Alec was just coming home now, his mother had already left because Zara had fallen asleep and she had eaten some Mac and Cheese that Alec's mother had made and she had tucked her in and left. Alec wasn't paying much attention until the elevator approached his floor and he heard his landlord and a woman. It sounded a lot like his neighbor and it didn't sound like a pleasant conversation. As the doors opened he could tell he didn't want to say anything, but he could see the frustration from both sides, but he only caught the 'leave your keys' part and that is all he needed to hear as he watched the elevator doors close as he seemed invisible to both his landlord and his neighbor.

Alec was aware of Mia's situation, at least, what she had told him and he knew they had an extra room and he figured if she was open to helping with Zara then it was a win for both of them if she took him up on his offer. He approached quietly as she didn't seem to calm right now. He couldn't blame her, but he didn't really want to scare her either. So with his mind made up her cleared his throat in an attempt to get her attention.

    [hope that was okay]

  • [yep that's fine! apologies for the late reply, my job sucks the energy out of me]

Mia was fully in her head at the moment, freaking out about all the stuff she had to move out. She was going to need to call friends or something to get all of her stuff out. The landlord couldn't really expect her to just up and leave by tomorrow morning? Surely she could ask for a few days to figure it all out. She knew there was no way she could just give him two grand. Mia should have just paid the bills when she was supposed to. Things were difficult with paying off student loans and bills and groceries. Being an adult was not all they cracked it up to be. She was on the verge of tears right then, feeling like a total and utter failure for getting herself evicted and kicked out. Mia was so lost in her thoughts that Alec clearing his throat earned a small jump.

She thought she'd seen him come out of the elevator but Mia had been so focused on pleading with the landlord she just ignored him. Now he was here though, and probably witnessed the whole thing. "Guess you saw that, huh?" she sighed, finally managing to pull out her keys and unlock the door, though she refrained from opening just yet. Mia's shoulders slumped, she was holding back tears not wanting to cry in front of her neighbor. Alec was a nice guy, very sweet to his daughter. She always thought it was a pity he wasn't around that much, and the few times she would babysit Zara, Mia could tell the girl missed her dad. She lost her mother and now her dad was working more. But he was still a good man and Mia hoped he saw soon he was missing part of the little girls life.

"Just my luck. Lost my job and my home on the same day. This is not my year," Mia laughed, though it was empty of all humor and instead was sad. The young woman turned back to the door to head inside and start packing, make some phone calls.

  • Alec remembered when he had problems with money, this was after Sarah had Zara and his low paying job right out of college wasn't enough to keep his family apart. He had almost gotten evicted over his rent, he knew the humiliation, but maybe he could help Mia. "Yes I saw it all." his voice was deep, but very calm. Alec had a very calming voice, according to his wife, but he never believed her. Though a few of his co-workers had mentioned it before so hopefully he could calm Mia down long enough to tell her about his offer. "Mia, I need to talk to you."

Alec didn't really have the time to wait, he needed to get everything ready for Zara for the next morning so he could get her to school and then get to work on time. Alec had come up with a very effective schedule and Zara seemed to be okay with the schedule so it really helped Alec. Alec's job was quite demanding and occasionally his boss would call after he got home because Alec was his right hand. Alec knew he had the income to be able to buy a house for Zara and him, but he didn't see the need as it was just the two of them. Without waiting for her reply he decided to just tell her his offer.

"Mia, I heard about your situation and I want to help you. I have a third bedroom in my apartment and I am offering it to you if you want it. I don't have many conditions, but Zara needs someone that can be around when I'm working." Alec had just gotten news from his mother that was going to keep her from helping Alec out with Zara so if he didn't find some help he would have to try to cut back his hours which his position at his job didn't really allow for. Even with kids his boss managed to get home before his kids went to sleep, but Alec didn't usually get home until almost 9.30-10. Alec saw his daughter in the mornings and then on weekends unless work called. He knew his daughter missed him, but he wanted to support her and make sure she was taken care.

  • Embarrassment washed over Mia as he admitted he saw everything. She usually didn't give a crud what people thought of her - but for some reason she didn't want Alec to think she was some loser with no job no home. But he didn't seem to think that anyways as he spoke, calmly, explaining that he needed to talk to her. She shoved down the tears - saving it all for later as she looked up at her neighbor, giving him a nod that said he could speak, let her know what was on his mind. Mia was not at all expecting what he was offering to come out of his mouth. It caught her off guard completely and she stared at him in shock for a while before eventually speaking up.

"You don't - you don't have to do that," she stuttered and shook her head. His generosity took her by surprise and while she was grateful this seemed a bit too much. "I'll be fine l'll find somewhere to go," and even as she said it, she didn't really believe her. Mia had no idea what was going to happen tomorrow, and she definitely didn't have a place to stay that quickly. Here Alec was, offering his extra room, and under the condition that she keep an eye on his daughter, which honestly was pretty simple. Perhaps she shouldn't be so quick to turn him down.

A sigh escaped her and she eventually gave in. "You're completely sure it's okay?" she asked, her innocent gaze searching his face. "I still have tonight in my own apartment - and I have to work on packing and moving my furniture out somehow...but landlord wants me out tomorrow," she was still leaning on the slightly open door to her apartment. She peeked inside with a frown.

  • Alec was aware of how embarrassing this moment might be for Mia, and he knew how stubborn their landlord could be when she told Alec that she had to be out by tomorrow. Alec had gotten on the good side of the landlord so it shouldn't be to hard to allow a couple days to move her stuff. Alec had furniture in his apartment already so this would just be to much. So he would either put his in storage or hers in storage. Alec had rented a storage locker from a place here in the city so he had a place to put it. "I'm sure, I'll have a spare key made tomorrow after work, but for now there is an emergency key with the landlord."

Alec pulled out his phone and sent a text to the landlord informing him that Mia would be moving in with him and he needed a few days to get her stuff sorted out. The landlord texted back immediately, this man had no life if he sat around his phone, but of course, now Alec owed his landlord a favor which is how and why the landlord got along with Alec. Alec's position allowed him to get a hold of some pretty expensive things without paying for them. "The landlord has allowed us three days to move your stuff. I can help if I can manage leaving early tomorrow." Alec normally wouldn't offer up a room without talking to Zara first, but he knew Zara liked Mia and he needed to do what was best for his daughter. Even if it meant giving someone a place to stay in return for keeping his daughter happy since he wasn't around.

Alec couldn't afford to ask them to cut his hours, his position wouldn't allow it and if he stepped down his paycheck and wallet wouldn't appreciate that. After Sarah's death, Alec was lost and heartbroken. He threw himself into work because without it he would've fallen apart after a few weeks. He wasn't proud of the fact that he didn't do much of anything with his daughter during the month after Sarah's death. Alec's mother had done most of everything because she knew how much Zara looked like Sarah and knew that looking at Zara was like seeing Sarah and knowing that she wouldn't be coming home.

  • Mia stood there awkwardly, unsure what to do. She wanted to go inside her apartment and shower and start packing things up, but Alec was still helping and going over some things. She had to admit, picturing living with him and his daughter seemed a little odd. She wasn't a mother (of course she wanted to be one day) - and she hoped it was going to be an easy transition. Not like a replacement of sorts. Mia decided to look at it almost like a nanny job? Though she was most definitely going to be on a job search. She needed to bring in money somehow. Mia planned on giving him money for letting him stay in ber apartment. She nodded about the key. "It's fine I can wait until tomorrow, I won't be barging into your home tonight," there was so much for her to take care of once this little exchange was over with.

When Alec pulled out his phone and typed, and then got a response back immediately she stared, shocked. "You got him to give me three days?" she asked, bewildered. Why on earth was he being so randomly kind to her? Without really thinking she quickly shot forwards and gave him a tight hug "Thank you so much you honestly have no idea how much this means," she started talking fast as she pulled back. "I'm so sorry I didn't know how else to express my gratitude," she put her hands over her face to hide her embarrassment. Oh well, he'd seen enough embarrassing stuff today as it was.

"You don't have to get up early to help, I can call in my friends if needed. It's just a dresser, my bed, and my couch and tv that are all my furniture. The rest came with the apartment. I can probably give the couch to a friend of mine - I'll most likely still need the dresser. But the bed, maybe I can sell? Or stick it in storage," that probably cost a fortune. She shook her head. "We can figure that out later. You get back home and to Zara. I've got stuff to pack. I think you have my number, contact me tomorrow. Thank you so much again honestly I owe you a million times," her mood had shifted and she disappeared into her apartment then to get working.

  • As she disappeared he really needed to see his daughter, this was not how he want his daughter to grow up. He really wished things could be different and he wanted to be there, but he couldn't afford a pay cut right now with rent due to go up in the next few months. He was thinking about his interaction with Mia. Zara would finally have someone at the apartment when she got home instead of his mother. Zara had made the decision that she wanted to start riding the bus now and that the bus would drop her off if he asked, which he called from work to ask and they said they'd put a stop in at his apartment building. Alec went straight to his daughters room and just stood at the door way looking into the room that his wife had designed for Zara before she was born. Sarah had always been the more creative of the two so she designed the layout and everything of the house. Alec just did the heavy lifting.

Alec then decided to clear some of his stuff out of the third bedroom and put it in the storage closet across the hall from the bedroom. It was just miscellaneous stuff, like his old computer and a vacuum that his mother used a lot when the apartment needed tidying to her standards. Alec's mother was a bit of a germaphobe so their apartment was pretty clean. Alec then went into the living room where his computer was. The TV was also in the living room, but Alec never really had the time to use it. His computer kept him pretty connected when he needed to work on weekends, but it wasn't important enough for him to rush into the office. He got logged on and his work email was already filled to the brim with stuff he needed to do by next week. His job could be the crazy, but it could also be pretty slow. Tonight he decided to work on a bit extra so he could be home when Zara got home. It would be the first time he would see her when it was still daylight out on a weekday. Alec really wanted to surprise her, after all, he could work from home if they needed him to later that night.

It was almost 12:30 the next day by the time he finally shut his computer down to go to bed. He got at least half of his workload done so hopefully they wouldn't have anything pop up. He crawled into bed and shut the lights out and fell asleep. He had to remember to go get the key made for Mia tomorrow on his way home, but maybe he'd have his secretary go do it for him. After all, she got coffee for him every morning so dropping the key off at a hardware store shouldn't be to big a deal, but that was a problem he could deal with tomorrow.

  • As soon as Mia got into her apartment, she sighed and ran a hand through her hair. First things first - a bath. She hurried into the bathroom and turned on the water to fill the tub, before getting on the phone and making a few calls. Her friend was going to take her couch, for a price of course, and she figured she could move the rest to the room Alec had if he had room. Once the bath was ready she settled and soaked, reading until she washed her body and hair.

For a couple of hours she grabbed a bunch of boxes and started putting all of her stuff around the house into them - books, decorations, anything she could. She got a box for all her pots and pans and dishes and what not, and started filling a suitcase with clothes - the rest she could put in bins. She did this until she exhausted herself, and climbed into bed, burying herself under the covers.

It took her a while to sleep, because she kept thinking about the day. Mia couldn't believe she had lost her job, but she knew this could only be a new chapter for her. She had already been starting to look for jobs as a teacher, and she did have a few applications out there, but no word yet. Mia just needed to apply to as many as she could. That would be her next task. Mia hoped everything was going to work out okay. Alec helping her out was truly a blessing.

The next morning she got up very early and started to continue packing everything up into more and more boxes, getting much more done than she expected to on her own. The only thing she was waiting on now was Alec, and her friend to take the couch out of her home and pay for it. He was supposed to be there any minute. Eventually he knocked and her couch was removed, her friend gave her a check, and she was pretty much set to move what she could. Mia sat on her bed with her computer, job searching, waiting.

  • The loud beeping of Alec's alarm was met with his hand slamming down on the snooze button. He hadn't got much sleep, but it was time to get Zara up and ready for school. He got up 30 minutes before her so he could pack her lunch and iron her clothes before he would drop her off at the bus stop and then head to his work that was about thirty minutes away with no traffic. Alec finally went into his daughter's room and shook her awake. She was never keen on getting up, but she did it with no argument.

Alec usually let Zara get herself ready as she was pretty independent on her own. In about 15 minutes she would be sitting at the kitchen table eating some cereal that she had asked for. Alec never had a problem with Zara, she was always so well behaved. He never really had to discipline her as she never really got into trouble anywhere. Alec would sit down with her sometimes and eat, but other times he would have to rush to work almost as soon as he dropped her off at the bus stop. His work had never been so demanding as it was now. Alec helped his boss run his company and despite it starting from the ground it had grown so much since he got the job right out of college.

At about 7 Zara was getting her book bag as Alec went to start his car. Alec let it warm up a bit before he told Zara to go get in the car. He told her that he just had to grab somethings for work, but he really just needed to make sure everything wasn't a mess in case Mia decided she wanted to move her stuff over before he got home. He had informed her that the landlord had a spare key to his apartment if she ever needed to get in and couldn't find hers. Finally he was in the car and sitting at the bus stop with three minutes to spare. He kissed Zara goodbye and watched her leave and get on the bus as it drove away he pulled out the opposite way and drove to work. The traffic wasn't to bad and he managed to make it to work on time and with a bit of time to spare.

  • Mia gave up her job search after a while, and shuffled into the kitchen to start moving things out of her fridge and cabinets. She tossed anything she no longer needed, creating quite a large garbage pile. Once she cleaned out all she could, which was more than half of everything, she left her apartment and shoved everything down the garbage shoot. Now, it was going to be a long day without doing anything, so she decided to go bother the landlord for that spare key. It felt weird asking for the key and going into Alec's apartment without him or his daughter being there - did he even mention to her that she was moving in? But Mia ended up texting Alec to make sure it was alright for her to start moving stuff before she actually did.

When she was given the ok she brought a few boxes over of mostly the pictures and what not she had hung up, and eventually found the spare room, starting to just drop stuff off. She was definitely going to need help with the bigger stuff, but she could wait for that until Alec got home from work. Mia went back and forth between rooms, not unpacking just yet, only moving things. Once she was done with whatever she could, it was still well before either of the two would be back, so Mia decided she'd surprise them. For a snack for the kid, Mia started making chocolate chip cookies. After that she started looking up recipes for dinner. But then she got lazy and went with pasta - pasta was always easy and quick. She'd wait till it was closer to dinner time of course for that. Mia still wanted to at least make an attempt at showing how grateful she was for getting the chance to stay with Alec for a little while.

It was getting towards the time school was ending, and the cookies were pretty much just done cooling. Mia even cleaned up a little around Alec's apartment, but she didn't touch much of his things or anything of Zara's. With a sigh she went to her apartment to get a warmer jacket so she could head outside so that Zara didn't walk in alone

  • It was around 3 o'clock before Alec's boss and partner told him to get home. That he deserved to go home early for once, after all, Alec hadn't really ever asked to for anything. Only a few problems popped up unexpectedly, but they weren't all day sorts of problems so Alec was able to have his work finished shortly after 3 when he ran to his car. It was starting to rain, just his luck. Hopefully it wasn't raining at home, he knew Zara wasn't a fan of rain or storms. It was a fear and he knew he would be able to help her get over it, but he didn't really have the time. One of the interns had gotten him a copy of his home key that was jingling in his pocket.

It took him about 30 minutes to get home, and as he pulled in he knew Zara would have gotten home at 2:30 so he could tell that rain hadn't hit his home yet, but as he walked through the apartment building to go up to his apartment the landlord stopped him and told him that Mia had come asking for the key. Honestly Alec figured she'd move her stuff in when she packed it all up so he really wasn't that surprised. Just annoyed with his landlord, honestly, he was a guy who cared about money more than people, but he never did anything for Alec to be to concerned about.

As he went up the stairs to the bigger apartments he finally reached his apartment on the fifth floor. He finally reached his apartment. As he turned the key unlocking the door he looked inside and could tell the apartment was a tiny bit cleaner than when he left it this morning and he couldn't help, but smile as he saw his daughter at the table drawing or doing homework, not that kindergarten ever assigned any. He could see the shock in Zara's eyes, after all, it was a week day and she was seeing her father in the daylight. As she ran up to him he lifted her up into his arms as he hugged her. He was so happy he had gotten of early today, but he knew he shouldn't get used to it, but now he was wondering where Mia was.

  • Mia ended up getting a phone call when she returned to her apartment. It was from her parents, finally getting back to her. She got caught up explaining to them what happened while she picked up the last of the things she needed to bring over - the only thing left know was the bed. If it was going to fit that was. She made a quick conversation and then hung up, starting to head out. But she dropped the box, and the contents spilled out. She grumbled angrily to herself, picking everything up as fast as she could, and then carried everything out, going back over to Alec's apartment. Well, also hers now

She was surprised to see both Alec and Zara there now, and she quickly set the heavy box down on the ground. "Oh hello" she greeted the both of them awkwardly. Alec usually came home later - she knew this because she'd hear him get him later. Mia honestly had no idea what to say, this was all really strange. She pointed to the counter. "I um, made cookies," she said and then picked up the box again to go lug it over to her room, and then she returned to the main area where the two of them were. "I moved stuff over all day, uh, I just left my bed since it's too big to carry.." she reached up to run a hand through her hair, truly unsure what to do at the moment, how exactly this living situation was going to work out.

  • Alec was setting Zara down to go color again when Mia walked into the apartment. He could tell this was going to take some time to adjust to, but he was willing to try as long as she wanted to try. "Hello Mia." he replied calmly, "Oh Zara already found your cookies." he couldn't hide his amusement. She was a cookie monster, really she took after her mom that way, but he tended to try to avoid the wife subject as he still wasn't quite over her death. "I can help with your bed, if you want to bring it up now." Alec figured they could speed up the move-in process and get the awkward transition period over with sooner rather than later.

Zara was munching on one of Mia's cookies as she sat and colored a picture. Zara had been very into drawing, maybe she'd have a future in art, but she just wanted more time with her dad and she wished her mom was here. She was so young when she passed away and she wished she would have had more time. After all, kids at school would talk about their mom and dad, but she didn't have any stories like they had that she remembered.

    [so that is so short]

  • Mia gave him a smile , like how proper he sounded all the time. She laughed at bit as he mentioned Zara already found the cookies - which she had noted. "I meant for you. I'm usually hungry after work so, figured you both might be," she went over and took one for herself before the little girl ate them all. She peeked at her coloring and then nodded as Alec offered to go help grab her bed set. "I've taken it apart in pieces. The mattress and box spring are leaning against the wall and then the rest can be carried out sideways," she said and ran a hand through her hair before glancing at his daughter.

"Be right back," Mia told her and then she took out her keys, leaving the apartment, waiting to make sure Alec was coming before she left the door propped open and scooted across the hall. She opened her door and made sure it stayed open before glancing around with a sigh. Everything looked so dull and empty now without her things. She felt like a complete disappointment for having lost everything when things had been going fairly well in her life. With a frown she headed down the hall to her bedroom, and she stared to tilt the bed on its side so they could carry it out. "Alright this is going to be difficult but I think we can do it. Take breaks if we need to," she chuckled

[its ok I'm sorry mine are short too]
