In her search for Sel, Pippa had stopped by the Brotherhood's first territory that she had grown up in. The place had never looked like anything more than an abandoned street or two, but it overflowed with terrible and bittersweet memories of those she doubted she would see again. Her most important and terrifying moments up to this moment came from here. Gowther was the first clanmate of hers that bled out at her paws late in the night when she was only four moons old. Other faces came to mind too, and how they'd died, how she had failed or not been there for them, flashed by in her head. She'd learned some vital tips for defense from James, watched him go through his struggles with a water phobia, and witnessed him lose control of who he was to the point where he almost killed her. He still had a place in her heart. Then there was Andie, who taught her how to make flower crowns, and someone that became one of her first friends, and her first friend to die. Spectre, the closest of the seers that actually mentored her to an extent in her first moon in the Brotherhood. He'd died, come back, then disappeared again. Little Ophelia came in later, but didn't matter any less than the others, genuine and innocent very much like Pippa had once been. Oprah had gone off too, but unlike the vast majority of Pippa's imaginary family, she hadn't disappeared so much as left. Still, there were little moments she had shared with Oprah, like playing in the rain instead of moping about how wet it was. At one time, Wolfsbane had a lot of her respect, but with time, her view of him had faltered, and later on changed after hearing what Darcy had to say. Darcy was the only former clanmate that had opened up to her, truly. No secrets, no pretending that everything was fine. But like everybody else, he'd eventually disappeared too. Sel was the only one that had stayed, and most of her better memories that weren't tainted in blood or loss had Sel in it. There were a lot of good memories, from them messing with chemicals in her basement to her trying to figure out why in the world Sel had been trying to do pottery. Reflecting on those changes as they had happened over the course of time broke her heart in a way. If she lost Sel and Romankit...She couldn't bring herself to think about it, especially now while she was looking for Sel.
"Sel!" She said, howling in between each call. "Sel!"
The sun began to sink, but her solo search party had been abruptly cut short. The Brotherhood's former camp was quiet, and somewhere within the territory, Pippa's satchel lay upright against a maple tree. A few days went by, but she didn't return to get her satchel. It remained slumped against the tree, coated in snow and frozen from the inside out.
