Beetlepaw watched her breath float from her mouth in a warm white cloud, dispersing into the air around her. She was about seventy–eight percent certain all the kits and elders had eaten, and that was good enough for her. Smiling, she padded over to the freshkill pile, smiling to herself. Eyeing it over curiously, she slid out a small rabbit from lower in the pile, pulling it away to another side. Pausing, she breathed in the warm meaty smell, licking her lips. With a grin, she leaned in, and crunched down on the meat.

As Beetlepaw was removing the small fine haired corpse of the rabbit, Dawnpaw was returning with the small body of a thin mouse. She approached with a limp as her face contorted, discomfort riddled on her expression. She'd stepped at an awkward angle onto a hardened lump of snow and her leg had twisted. It was minor, the pain, something she knew would go away soon, but it made the end of her hunt prove rather pathetic.
"It's a cold day, isn't it?" She spoke after she settled the carcass onto the piled bodies. "I hope the rabbit tastes good. I think I saw one of the other apprentices bring it in not too long ago." She paused and looked around, all of a sudden awash with fear that she was pestering the dark furred she-cat. "I'll, uh, leave you to your meal."

"Aw, come on, don't go, I haven't talked to anyone else all morning!" groaned Beetlepaw, sticking her tongue out slightly in disappointment, swallowing the mouthful of rabbit she'd spoken around. Offering a grin, she lightly rested her tail on the empty space aside her, an invitation for Dawnpaw to join her. "It's Dawnpaw, right? We haven't really talked much, huh?" she said with a grin.

[justify] trotting over to the fresh-kill pile after having dropped her own recent catch off at the nursery, applepaw lifted her tail in greeting at dawnpaw and beetlepaw. taking a scrawny vole in her maw, she settled down across from the two, ruffling her bushy fur up against the cool wind. "sometimes i wish i was a rabbit in this cold. then i could totally burrow down and like, stay warm." she moaned.

"Oh, okay!" She was cheerful then, glad her Clanmate wanted to talk to her. "Yeah I'm Dawnpaw. No, I don't think we've had the chance to really talk yet." She wanted to make the excuse that she had been training but, in reality, she hadn't been training at all. She'd simply been distracted, out of the loop, and watching Clan life go on as if she didn't exist.
"Applepaw, if you were a rabbit, I think I would have eaten you by now." She laughed, tail flicking. "I bet you'd taste really good."
