  • [Fancypost bgcolor= none; border:none; width: 350px; overflow: auto;][justify][sub]i know this is a site based on cats
    But
Are there any dog people here...?
Like trainers, handlers for dog sports and conformation (show ring), breeding, herding, protection, service dogs, etc?
I mean dog owners are cool but I am talking about people who actually do stuff with their dogs and involve themselves within the dog community
I kinda wanna see if theres anyone else on feralfront who shares my interests

  • [align=center][fancypost bgcolor=;border:0;width:450px;text-align:justify;font-size:8pt;]If I could I would but I mean I'm too poor and live in shitty apartments that a dog would just suffocate in
    So I WOULD but nope I don't

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=; text-align: justify; width: 375px;]I know how to train the basics to a dog, and currently my dog is undergoing a 5-6 week service dog training program for a pattern interrupt. Overall, I would like to consider myself a pretty big dog person x3

my old dog was a retired service dog. :^) she's passed away now, but she lived a good long life. 17 years old. :0
i dogsit around the neighborhood and bring in a good deal of my income.
and i used to take my current dog to puppy class but now he's just a lump. xD

  • [Fancypost bgcolor= none; border:none; width: 350px; overflow: auto;][justify][sub]i breed border collies and german shepherds- both for performance and working purposes.
I also train for agility and my border collie puppy is a disc dog prospect.
I train a lot- hobby wise but I make a pretty decent amount of money and I am establishing my reputation
I plan to import a koolie from australia at some point, and either buy a domestic born mudi or import.
I own an import GSD from Czechoslovakia- she is my profile pic.
I want to get into conformation with my mudi eventually

    I have 3 dogs atm
one of them is a 7yr old kelpie cross cattle dog
    and she's super gr8
the other is a 1yr old english x american staffy
annd the last is an 11 year old Chihuahua x either whippet or greyhound we're really not sure

but I really want to get into agility training but I just, it's not really that big over here. at least not that i'm aware of so yep

  • [Fancypost bgcolor= none; border:none; width: 350px; overflow: auto;][justify][sub]where are you located?
You'd be surprised- I went years without knowing anything about the dog sports community and thanks to a few people I have been immersed in the hidden world

  • I live in Australia! I know like 2 people that train their dogs in agility but I would never just send them a message out of the blue since we're not really close

  • [Fancypost bgcolor= none; border:none; width: 350px; overflow: auto;][justify][sub]oh trust me there are a shit ton of australians that are immersed into the dog sports world
Where do you think my Koolie is coming from? Australia of course! And i wanted the parents to be proven working and performance dogs- which they are.
    Google allambie koolies.

As for finding agility clubs- google australian agility associations- see if there's a national association. If there is there will be clubs listed on the website and you are bound to find something near you
Your staffy mix- is he/she food driven?

  • When we were doing the basics of her training, which she still just knows sit and to go to the toilet outside, we used a mix between small treats, praises and pats to train her.

  • I don't do anything with my personal dogs, but I am a veterinary technician! I work full time in a shelter. I do a variation of assisting in surgery, handling medications, cleaning after dogs, training dogs, and assisting with adoptions!

  • [Fancypost bgcolor= none; border:none; width: 350px; overflow: auto;][justify][sub]lemme know how it goes, if you need any advice i'm here!

frost: dude I am waaaay jealous! I really wish I could do that but I can't handle blood or nasty smells, or any of that stuff ):

  • I don't currently have my own dog, or when I did I didn't live in a country where any dog sports existed, but I've always been interested in them. Definitely something I'd like to get into once I have the time to own a dog again. Have you heard of Micheal Ellis? I quite like some of his philosophies regarding dog training (particularly tug games and motivation).

For now though I just have a family member's designer dog (small fluffy poodly thing, heh) I've been trick training. x3 She's got about 50 words to her vocabulary, and we're slowly developing more - she's not very food motivated so it's tricky sometimes.

[justify][sub][color=lightgrey][size=8]I'm currently going to college for my Veterinarian Technician/Assistant certificate while later working up to a full time Veterinarian. I've always had the same career choice long before I even needed to; my parents always said that I'd tell them I wanted to be an animal doctor (which is what I said until I was old enough to learn how to say Veterinarian xD).
I've always had dogs growing up and very little interaction with cats until getting the one I have now. I honestly can't remember a time that my house was ever 'dogless' lmao. My current dog is a 4 year old Boxer/Labrador mix(with a crap ton of other breeds in there somewhere). He's powerful and rather overprotective of me mostly since he's my dog, but he is protective over everyone else in the house too. He's not really user friendly with other people/animals he doesn't know and he has separation anxiety because of being dumped on the side of a road as a puppy.

  • [align=center][fancypost bgcolor=; border:none; width: 420px; height: inherit; padding:0px; font-family:verdana; font-size:10px; line-height:11px; text-align:justify;] i have a cute doggo and i would be super involved in the dog community if i could, but i can't due to school and bc my family wouldn't let me tbh. but when i grow up i'd love to do more stuff! i'm even considering becoming a vet. tho st the present time, i'm also hoping to volunteer at a nearby animal rescue centre to work with cats and dogs c:
