    Hughes was trying to get used to being on his own without his siblings or his father. He was hoping that he would come back, like he had before, and maybe he would be. He was praying to whatever gods out there, but he had yet to show up. He had gotten used to being without his mother-or his other father? He wasn't sure anymore, and really, living without him hadn't turned out as painful as he had thought. He had never been told why he'd left, so it eventually led him to be a bit sour over the whole situation. His siblings were nowhere to be seen, and Patchwork's absence was worrying him quite a bit, as she hadn't really been in a good state of mind before he disappeared. There was none left, except for a few friends who had stuck around, which meant he had no protection from the other kids who terrorized him.

    He sat in the corner of the camp, watching and observing. He hated being so fearful, so helpless, a frown gracing his face. It normally wouldn't have bothered him, the remarks about his appearance and sometimes even his wits didn't bother him, but when they brought his family into the picture, he became a bit sensitive. He was a familial sort, caring of everyone related to him. He was proud of his family, even though none of them were here right now.

    Maes. When Mae saw him as she was leaving her den, her golden eyes flashed with worry. She didn't want to let him feel like he was all alone, because he wasn't. Her head tilted a little bit to the side as she moved over towards him, her paws silent on the ground. "Maes. Or uh.. Hughes. I'm used to calling you Maes. Uhm.. Anyways! How are you doing?" She was trying to make small talk while still trying to ask him for like the deeper meanings. Why he was sitting over here all alone. How was he coping with the fact that now even Frecks had gone missing. She wasn't just going to blurt those out, though. That would be a little rude and she didn't want to hurt his feelings.

    Hughes lifted his head as Mae came over, managing a small smile. It wasn't too convincing, however, it was clear that something was nagging at him. He just didn't want to cause anyone worry. "Hey! It's okay, you can just call me Maes if you like," he reassured, since he was used to her calling him that, though anyone else using that name would probably irritate him. "I'm...okay. I'll be better soon," he quickly added the last part to relieve some of the concern she might have felt.

    //same here tbh

    Sylmae blinked and nodded a little bit. "Alright because I kind of like it. It's like my name and I don't meet many people with a name close to mine. However weird that sounds." Mae said and giggled lightly before she studied his face a little more. Despite him trying not to worry her, she was worried, it was what mother's did. "Wanna tell me what's really bugging you? Holding it in might seem like a good idea in the long run but I promise, it hurts you more than you might know. I know first hand." Mae's voice softened a little as she spoke to him, hoping he might trust her enough to actually talk to her because she did quite like the boy and she didn't want to see him upset.
