Littlepaw had been going outside the camp often. Not just to hunt, but spend time with himself. He knew it was slacking off, but he couldn't help it. The apprentice just couldn't stay still, even for a heart's beat. His paws like to wander and explore the territory. But exploring had become nothing but a broken record. He didn't find pleasure in the thing he once loved to do. Perhaps because it was all the same no matter where he went. He breathed in. It was enough for such thinking. He needed to make himself a use around this clan! He already failed once. He wasn't willing to let them down again. Littlepaw hopped to his paws, quietly grappling his claws onto a nearby tree.

Training would get his mind off of things, right? Littlepaw began to scale the tree. It was tough for him, since he lacked the physical strength. But after the struggle, he finally made it on the lowest tree branch. Littlepaw perched on the branch, quietly observing the world below. It looked so different from up above.

Wasppaw yawned, padding out of the apprentice's den to be instantly greeting by a cold blast of winter wind. Fluffing up his thick coat, the apprentice blinked rappidly against his tiredness and the wind, letting the freezing bite shove him to full wakefulness. He had, once more, gone to bed late last night, spending so long out hunting but unsuccesful no matter how many patrols he had gone on. There was just...so little prey out lately...He could feel his stomach grumbling under his long fur, and he sighed softly at the ache. He couldn't remember the last time he had a real, full meal...Looking over at the nursery, he quickly shook his head, forcing himself to stop thinking such selfish thoughts. The prey would come back soon, but in the meantime, he would follow the code and eat last. For now, hunting and patroling and training would distract him...
Looking around for any sign of his mentor, Wasppaw began padding around camp. Had Tatteredpelt gone out on dawn patrol...? The apprentice wondered thoughtfully, before pausing in his tracks when he heard a rustle above him. It wasn't uncommon for a Skyclanner of all cats to be up in a tree, practicing or chasing after a squirrel, but it was rather early - what if the branches were slick? They could hurt themselves! Creaning his neck, Otterpaw squinted against the faint morning sunlight to see who was in the tree above him. It took him a moment to distinguish the pale ashen color of the former medicine cat, Littlepaw.
"Littlepaw? What're you doing up there?" Wasppaw called, his fretfulness unabolished even if the fellow apprentice had once been a healer. Even medicine cats could slip on icy bark!

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; border:0px; text-align:justify;]He had stood up from his spot, wanting to see if he could see the waking sky better from up above. Littlepaw's thoughts were fixed on making it to the next branch without falling. He tensed up, his body poised as he prepared for a leap. You got this. You got this! He was just about to jump when Wasppaw had spooked the apprentice. "I, uh!" Littlepaw blurted out, clumsily gripping the cold bark with his claws. He squirmed for a bit until he caught his balance. Littlepaw looked around confused, before he had the idea of looking down. He saw the cream apprentice greet him from below. "Oh, hey Wasppaw," Littlepaw greeted with a nervous grin. Starclan that was embarrassing.

"I, well, was hoping the territory would look different. You know, from above," he rapidly answered. His goof-up was burned into his mind, flustering the apprentice. He scoffed for a moment. He hadn't exactly thought about the ice that could be clinging to the rough bark. In fact, he never really thought about these kind of things. But hey, that's why he had a brother for. It was funny that he was made the medicine cat's apprentice. He should have been more thoughtful. "Um, wanna join me?" he offered reluctantly. It was odd, inviting somebody to join him. He was often afraid to initiate conversations, so he didn't really have a lot of friends. He often went out by himself as a result. But Wasppaw? The guy seemed to get along with just about anybody. Littlepaw would have thought the apprentice was hanging out with Otterpaw at this time. "The sky, er, sun I mean, should be up by now. It looks nice maybe?"

"Ah-" Wasppaw gasped when the grey apprentice stumbled, nearly lurching out of the tree. The apprentice tensed, about to lunge forward himself in an attempt to catch the tom should he fall, he froze when the other tom managed to scrabble his way back onto his perch. "S-sorry!" he called, sheepish, for having startled the apprentice. His chest squeezed with guilt at the thought that he had nearly been the cause of Littlepaw's injury by fall.
Wasppaw blinked at the apprentice's answer to his earlier question, turning his gaze, then to the leaf-less tree top and grey sky. Though Wasppaw found even Leaf-bare's cold world a beauty, he wondered then if it was more wonderous from a bird's eye view. What was it like, seeing the world from at the top of it? He was about to ask Littlepaw what he saw, and if it was indeed unique, but was silenced by surprise when he asked if Wasppaw wanted to join.
Immediately, the young apprentice beamed happily at the former medicine cat's friendliness. He knew littlepaw to be a rather reserved cat, but he was rather hard working and loyal to his clan, demoted or not. Wasppaw greatly admired his fellow apprentice, and he'd be lying through his teeth if he said he didn't want to be friends with him. Not that he could ever possibly say that.
"I'd love to!" Wasppaw purred, unsheathing his claws and crouching down before springing into the air. Hooking his claws into the bark, Wasppaw pulled himself up one hop at a time until he was in the branch slightly below but nonetheless beside Littlepaw's own perch. The bark was slick in places with clinging ice, but Wasppaw managed to retain a firm grip as he scooted as close as their separate branches would allow.
"Woahh..." he mumbled, looking out into the forest, "I feel like I could fly" he mumbled, before smiling broadly at the grey apprentice, "Its very nice, I agree~" With the leaves from the trees missing, they had a full view of the perfect white world below. Trails of pawsteps leading to and from camp spoke of life and hard work, and Wasppaw's chest expanded in warm wonder as he spotted the morning sun rising over the horizon.
    'Nice' was now a understatement.
