Possibly leaving, as I have no motivation to stay...

  • Alright, so what's with no one roleplaying with the newbie, huh? I have posted looking for mates with no reply, and a few roleplays with no reply. On other roleplay sites I'm on, the users are all friendly, and you'll have a new post within, like, seconds pretty much. Obviously, this site isn't about that.

Without anyone to roleplay with, I'm becoming bored, which makes me want to leave and return to my main roleplaying site. I don't understand why I haven't gotten replies, as I can see that people are on. I guess this just isn't the nice, welcoming community that I'm used to. If I don't get back on...well, consider me gone. I see no point in joining and getting on here if no one's even going to roleplay with me.

  • The RP goes fast here. Threads are often buried because new threads are constantly being made as well as posts for other threads. People are intentionally ignoring your posts, they most likely just don't see them. Just keep bumping them and someone will eventually post to them.

  • Hi Kitsumi :) Do you want me to help you? I know that it can really be hard, starting out, I've done everything i can think of to help make it easier for newbies but i'm glad you spoke up, because where my forum fails someone I sure want to know.

How about you list your roleplays you've tried to start on this thread here and we can take a look. I'll bet anything they're awesome starts. I can also look into just why they weren't responded to.

Have you tried responding to anyone else's roleplays while waiting? That can often be the key.

  • I like to join open threads for anyone in the main clans while I'm waiting, so I don't get bored waiting on private threads. :)

  • Okay. I'm back. I "stalked" you {had a look through your posts} to see what might be going wrong. And my conclusion? It hasn't been given enough time.

You've started up a lot of material within the past few hours, a lot of it in boards that are not "too busy" at all. That said, it's only been a few hours. It can take several hours up to a day for a response sometimes. Forum roleplay often goes slowly. The posts look great, and actually if you and I had the same types of roleplay interests I'd love to try threading with you. My main sphere of activity is my cougar plot, and I have a few mountain lions available for roleplay, if you want to make your own cat for it you can though. I run a couple threads for it in the free RP areas where you wouldn't have to pay for one.

We're going to get you on your feet here, but only if you stick around :P

  • Patience is a virtue.

For my first post it took over a day for a response and even my "Do you want to RP with me" didn't get replied to.

But I waited and eventually my post got replied to, I even had a look for a mate/apprentice for my cat which has enabled him to become more active.

However I still found that wasn't enough for my RP hunger and created another cat, which I replied to a thread which another person started.

There are various ways in which you can make your posts active I found I had to wait, which wasn't that long for a site which has threads overpowering over threads constantly.

Also I announced my presence in this board saying I was new, many people replied saying "PM me if you wish to RP". There are a lot of people out there who will be happy to RP with you, me included. But as Wynn pointed out your posts have only been up for a few hours, give them a day and you should have a reply =]

  • I'm sure you'll find something that's right up your street. :)

I think it's important you find out which sorts of things you like to RP best, then you can work from there. :)

  • Yeah I had a look. Any time someone feels unwelcome here I take it as a responsibility. I consider the site's rules, ads, appearance, etc. everything about it that advertises our friendliness and openness as an unspoken promise to everyone who joins it that they will receive that treatment and have a great time here. So any time someone posts that they're struggling, I work with them and do everything I can. I also see it as a chance to hit on solutions to these problems, because god knows that Kitsumi here is not the only newbie who has posted on this site and not gotten a response within a day. I agree--it MUST be frustrating to look down on that info centre and see over 50 names on, and yet, nobody is responding to you. I've created that newbie helper badge for people encouraging them to help new players, but in my opinion people shouldn't have to be offered shiny rewards for doing it. They should want to do it. I know many do, but it remains that it's a struggle.

I COULD return to posting up a "random newbie thread/random open thread" link set up top on the header, but sometimes that has resulted in too many responses. But eh, might not hurt :)

  • I agree with you Wynn, a badge shouldn't be the only reason a person wishes to help another just to receive an award.

It could be considered similiar when people join a new school or class etc. They are usually buddied up with another person to help them around and get a general feel of the place. As you pointed out you have a badge which people can earn for helping another person but perhaps that isn't enough in some cases. I'm aware people also do it out of the kindness of their heart but perhaps the option of buddying newbies up would make them feel securer and allow them to rely on someone rather than hoping someone will respond to their thread?

  • I think buddying up would be a great idea. However, the problem then is time zone compatibility. Everyone sleeps, goes to school/work etc. Kitsumi, you clearly want to be a very active player here, so you'd want other active players.

It's also the "slow period" right now. In a few more hours activity will pick up. I'm going to try that random RP thing again in the header, and give it a discreet spot. It can replace the medicine meeting thing I think since almost nobody can join those medicine meetings, since they are only for medicine cats.

    Edit:

Looked further. You have an AWESOME private roleplay going with Linus. I know her, she's really cool. She posts regularly and should be on again later today. You just got to give people time to log back in. They'll come around. :)

  • Ah, thanks everyone...I'm sorry I've been so impatient. It's just that my best friend Amber told me how she had loved this site, and she got me so excited and pumped up, I kinda lost all patience xD Plus, I haven't slept in over 40 hours, which doesn't help xD I didn't mean to be such a sourpuss (no pun intended xD)

I feel much better about this site now, and I'll try...and hopefully succeed (haha) at being patient and not going ballistic when my threads haven't been replied to within a couple of hours. :P

  • Eh, no problem. I understand where you are coming from. I've been there, although I generally waited longer XD

Someone else who's a Maximum Ride fan as well as being very well spoken also just joined:

    http://warriorcatsrpg.com/welc…has-begun-3-248289.0.html

Maybe you two could RP together there, who knows.

Just one thing--if you catch someone breaking rules, our policy here is to not say anything directly to them on the site, but report the post. We used to allow people to correct each other but it resulted in bickering when not everyone went about it in a way you'd call eloquent :P

  • Yeah and if for whatever reason if you are still struggling with anything just get back to us on this thread. That's largely what this board is for. I consider this a welcome and newbie assistance area. Since if you don't yet feel like a full part of this community the welcoming part isn't done yet.

  • If nobody responds, don't worry!
You can always reply to someone else's post.

  • This has inspired me to set up a newbies' checklist. It'll get stickied in here and linked to in the guides. It's going to be a brief checklist of things that all new players can do to maximise their start here.
