  • Softstep plopped the fresh-kill onto the pile, satisfied with his work. Sure, it had only been a couple of mice, but such plump mice were rare in leaf-bare. His ears were perked to the sounds of his clan - as they often were. It was a nice change from the subtle dislike most harbored for him. The tom could almost imagine that they didn't look at him with narrowed eyes.

Sighing at such a thought, he flicked his tail absentmindedly. Softstep sat down to observe the bustle of the camp and the daily duties his fellow clanmates pursued. He was getting a well-deserved break.

Exactly three tail-lengths away. He hadn't noticed him yet. Ghost watched carefully as his target dropped his prey and sat down. So far so good. He hadn't been noticed. Ghostkit knew he'd have to move fast if he wanted to succeed in his hunt. Even though he was hiding in the dense bushes of the nursery wall, his bright white fur could be seen if one looked close enough. Moving slowly into a crouch, Ghost slinked forward until he was close enough to his target that he could touch him.

Then he attacked. Without a sound, he jumped out of the bushed and aimed for Softstep's back. He was tempted to give a war cry, but he knew that the shout could ruin his hunt, and he was not ready to risk that. [/fancypost]

  • Softstep's eyes widened at the sudden weight and he let out a startled mew. His panic faded quickly as he realized how light it was. He looked over his shoulder with large yellow eyes. "What are you doing?" The meow didn't reek of agitation, but rather dripped of the fear he'd previously felt. The warrior hadn't expected a kit to leap onto his back, but he did expect to be hearing about himself getting frightened by a kit for at least another moon.
