Is there any reason why you look so radiant tonight?" Everything about Edwin Parlor's voice screamed with condescension. Still, Gabrielle grudged the handsome commodore a polite smile. The man was a decent one, with only benevolent intentions. Still, the way he spoke to her as though expecting something in return made her skin crawl in what little space it was given beneath her maroon corset.
Given the occasion, she decided to indulge the man. After all, it was no secret that he fancied her. That she might ever fancy him back was difficult to imagine, but she knew how her father and adoptive siblings hoped for it.
She lifted her chin, and, brushing a pesky dark curl behind her ear, replied, "That's a silly question, Commodore Parlor. I'm here only to celebrate my sister's engagement. To suggest otherwise is simply..." Her gaze had wandered past Parlor's shoulder to where a striking, garishly dressed man stood propped against the brick wall surrounding The Common's Circle.
Her misty, shamrock eyes became narrow slits. Whatever the commodore said in reply to her statement fell dead on her ears as she wondered just where she might have laid eyes on a man of such peculiar attributes in the past. Surely it was nobody who her stuffy older sister, Genevieve, had associated with?
No, but something about him was familiar... Disconcertingly so. And, as she stood to bear witness, his hand reach into the peach-colored handbag of Mrs. Clowers and came out a second later with a handful of glittering trinkets.
OOC:
Gabrielle Winston is the daughter of a pirate. She was born and raised as one until she was ten years of age, when her father, the captain of a grand ship once known as the Ocean's Pride, was mutinied upon by his crew. They abandoned Gabrielle in a booming port town, where she was taken in and raised by a stern, but doting governor.
Your character is a carefree pirate. He comes and goes with his crew from port to port, taking what he can whenever it's available. As a child, he sailed on a ship known as the Ocean's Pride, and was best friends with an adventurous girl known as Gabrielle. He's long since moved on to a different crew of pirates, but he's long been curious about the young girl with whom he used to swordfight and adventure.
A dark cloud hangs over the seas as of late. There is a crew of pirates bloodthirstier and seemingly more ambitious than the rest. They seek the island of legend, known to most pirates as Isle of the Gods. According to legend, its shores are made from shredded gold, and its fresh water is what ensures the immortality of the Gods. The pirate who finds the island is the richest pirate alive, and the bloodthirsty crew of the Tempest has been after it for years. As it turns out, without the knowing of his crew, so has the captain of your character's ship. He's inadvertently been following the violent Tempest, picking up treasures and gold to keep the crew satisfied where and when he can.
We will begin with your character's crew being stopped in Port Leight, where Gabrielle lives. The residents of Port Leight don't take much of a liking to pirates, and execute them whenever they catch them. Gabrielle catches your character pick-pocketing, but instead of saying anything about it, she is curiosity-stricken and goes to make conversation with him. The two vaguely remember each other, but neither can place a finger on where it is they met... And they don't get the chance to remember. Soldiers come barging through, and your character snatches Gabrielle, threatening to kill her if they dare shoot. In the end, he takes her back to the ship, and before she has any kind of a chance to get away, they have set sail for wherever fate may lead them.
