How? When? Where? Why? What? Many questions swarmed the mind of several NPCs as they spotted an egg laying in the middle of camp. How it had gotten there? No one really knew though they started mumbling to one another before one large leopard NPC told them that he had grabbed the egg, mostly for fresh-kill purposes. They started arguing with one another stating how something could have been inside of the egg and the leopard was about to break the egg to prove his point but that was when it suddenly shook. All of the NPCs glanced over at the leopard with frowns on their maws but were quite content for being right. The egg seemed to shake again and eventually one of the NPCs there would wrap a blanket around it only for all of them to slowly disperse leaving the egg there even the leopard decided to piss off and continue with his own routine.

The egg lay in the middle of camp wrapped in a blanket.

Child abandonment seemed to be a common problem these days. It seemed as if most children had parents that just didn't love them enough to keep them; that, or the parents just couldn't go on with life. Most children he encountered had no parents, especially those who ended up joining BlizzardClan. It was pitifully sad, really. If only there was a way to stop it.

Freshwater, himself, was a victim of abandonment. At the young age of two months, he was left alone at the top steps of BlizzardClan by his own parents. They didn't want him anymore. It was as simple as that. When he had joined his herd not too long back, he never learned their true intentions of such an act. The answers he received were regarding the fact that they had left the herd in shame. Although he shouldn't worry about such a predicament, he couldn't help but wonder why they left him. They had mentioned that he was a weakling, but was that it? Was he too much of a bother?

Shaking such negative thoughts from his mind, the male blinked, his attention swerving from the frozen lake to his right to the path ahead of him. It was a shame, really. His favorite activity- swimming- would have to be postponed all the way until mid-spring, when the ice over the waters would thaw. Typically, he was patient, but for something like this, it was hard for him to be. He loved swimming- it would be hard for him to find a new activity to substitute for the lack of it.

When the view of the retriever inched into his vision, he silently halted. At first, he assumed the canine was sleeping, until the sight of the egg came into view. "hello!" he chirped, blinking his eyes quickly. Stepping forward, he poked the shell of the egg with the tip of a single paw, curiosity inching inside of him. However, at the same time, sympathy poured through him as well. He couldn't help but feel bad for the poor creature inside of the protective covering- it would never be able to meet its parents.

Sitting, he threw a happy smile at Misty, before looking down at the egg. At the wobble, he jumped slightly, his tail fin wagging In response. "it's moving!" he squealed, now crouching down, as if doing so would allow him to have a closer look. It was quite interesting, really. Freshwater was nearing the age of an adult, and yet, he still acted like a child. Oh well. Everyone to their own personality.

The feeling of a blanket being wrapped around him felt nice and once something added to the warmth it seemed like he couldn't help but make the egg shake a bit. He heard voices outside of his egg thus he would put his beak near the weakest point of his small white containment, he pecked a small hole only to continue doing this to the point where he was able to see one of those there. Some huge blue creature, the newborn would lower itself from the eyes of Freshwater releasing soft chirps. He could feel his little heart beating inside of his chest and he would poke his head out glancing around timidly only to recoil into the safety of his egg. He didn't want to really come out just yet since he felt safer in his egg than out there as the chilly air started nipping at him. He would shake his head poking his head out once more and this began a small process only to fall forward did he stare at Freshwater, his eyes widened as he used his small flippers to sit up glancing over at Misty letting out a soft peeps. Wow. This was quite the place, he would wriggle out of his egg soon huddling against the blanket and Misty's tail. Much warmer.

The servaline would resound, leaden orbs widening and blinking twice in succession, upon settling on the creature emerging from the egg. She hadn't expected it to hatch so soon, after all, though then again.. The egg had been shifting, and to her knowledge, eggs didn't often squirm naturally, unless they were about to hatch and give-way to the creature clasped within. "Hello there!" She'd add, a greeting skimming her parted lips, as she opted to seat herself beside her comrades. A part of her happened to wonder as to whether it had parents, loitering nearby.. But, she hadn't stumbled across a penguin in quite some time.. "Hmm, maybe.. Tama thinks that we should give them a name?" The female would suggest, underlying concern as to whom the parents would be, lingering at the back of her mind.

Aww, it was adorable! Redlipstick approached, having arrived just in time to watch the thing hatch. She stood next to her daughter, raising a metaphorical brow. "What of it's mother? Is she not... here?" She asked, gaze shifting from clanmate to clanmate in curiosity.

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px; width: 450px][justify][size=10][font=georgia]Ah, hatched already? Arriving on the scene after Redlipstick, Sweetophelia came to stand beside the BlizzardClan Head Paladin, her pale lilac eyes narrowed in quiet contemplation as she looked over at the newly hatched chick. She hadn't seen a penguin since Penguin Joe and this was the first time she had seen a baby penguin. "I don't think so," she shook her head at Redlipstick's question. "Do we even know how to care for it?" Sweetophelia knew that adult penguins ate fish but she wasn't sure if baby penguins could survive on the same diet. Babies were so delicate.

[justify][size=8]"Oh gosh its cute!" Hercules breathed as he padded over to watch the hatching. Though he had to agree with the others. Child abandonment was sick. The feline could never understand why anyone would just leave them all alone. Hopefully someone would step up to parent them. Because if no one would, then he sure as hell was going to do it.

Sage gasped, staring at the tiny penguin with wide eyes. She had never seen a penguin before; she'd heard of them, yes, but no one had ever told her they were so adorable. She crouched beside the critter, gazing at it with warm blue eyes.

"Hello, little one," The tiger whispered with a comforting smile. What a sweetheart, She thought, her motherly heart melting at the sight of the tiny creature. He was not quite as cute as Alachi, of course, but still adorable.

Upon hearing Sweetophelia's concerns, she turned to the feline with a thoughtful expression, brow furrowed. "My mother used to be friends with a penguin as a kid," She explained. "And she told me about how his mother would regurgitate fish for him to eat. So we could just give him mashed up fish, I guess. This place is already cold enough for him, so that's not much of a concern. The only problem is that he won't have any parents to take care of him," Sage frowned. She couldn't imagine growing up without parents. Poor little guy.
